I'd have loved mine too, if I only had it for a week. After the first week it became a nightmare, and I've spent way way way too much just keeping it going. That aligns with my experience. After 105k miles, my 2012 200S Flex Fuel is running great. But I stayed up on basic maintenance, oil changes etc. I have no major issues. The worst thing was at 80k miles my alternator died had to replace it. And now at 100k Ive only had to recharge AC two or three times. THis year after 12 years I'm having to go thru an EVAP light driving cycle. But again 12 years old and over 100k miles. Im satisfied. And looks do matter!!
Agreed, scotty right about a lot of things, but he compared a old, timing belt design 7a-fe in his celica. A timing chain will be noisy by design, even the 2ar fe in the camrys.
Thank you for this, every responsible car user can make almost any car last 200k. People like to tear down everything they don’t have slammed into their head The old adage of settling for Toyota or Honda doesn’t exist, they are now for some reason more expensive lol
Don Chrysler = we stopped making compact and midsize sedans so you don’t have to buy them. It’s funny how Ford and General Motors followed Chrysler a few years later and stopped making most cars for the USA. Instead of trying to compete with the competition and improve their cars they just gave up altogether.
I have a 2015 Chrysler same car in this video got it with 1400 miles 2014. Still own it. And I can say it’s been good to me 85k miles now and no problems just the recalls and everything was fixed. Only thing I need. Do is change the brakes now
I brought mine used 1 owner and it started having problems a month after I brought it and every time I take it to the dealership to fix the problem they fix it the check engine light goes off but anywhere from a hour and 24 hours later the check engine comes back on and it’s a whole different code/problem
But it's the wrong Chrysler, it's supposed to be a PT Cruiser, not 200. I'm sick and tired of you guys belittling the PT Cruiser as the worst car in the world and excluding it from the worst car lists (if made).
@@brianlee5649 I never heard of anyone calling the PT Cruiser the "worst car" it's just boring. It's a car for grandma and people that dont' have money for anything except a PT Cruiser. It's a car no one wants, but when you have no other options, you'll be glad to have. Most of them are in somewhat decent shape since older people owned them. They're shitty cars, they're boring cars. No one buys a PT Cruiser because they want it. But they're far from the worst.

Hey Scotty my 2016 Chrysler 200s has 225,000 miles I’m the original owner and haven’t had any issues. Car is in great looking shape too. All I did was change brakes twice and tune up at 100k. Actually a good car lol
I was a Chrysler tech for years. We actually didn't have a lot of problems with these or the Dodge Darts. The 2.4 was famous for needing the thermostat. Yes they are very difficult to work on, but if you take care of it and change the oil regularly like anything else, it will be fine...and God help you if the Evaporator core starts leaking.
@@Roman_Wayy7 The AWD 200 is a rare find. Great car and very quick. AWD makes a big difference on acceleration. The 3.6 V6 is a big upgrade from the 2.4.
When I lived in the UK the transmission in my Honda Jazz (Fit) started to fail. I purchased the vehicle new, and even though the mileage was still low it was just outside of the warranty period. I took it along to the dealer and not surprisingly they did not want to know and told me they would not fix for free. I called Honda UK and they agreed straightaway to cover the cost, they admitted they were aware of the transmission problems with some of these cars and were very very helpful. Honda UK contacted the dealer the same day and told them under no uncertain terms that they must fix the problem for free, sure enough I got a very apologetic call from the dealer and they agreed to replace the transmission at no cost. Lesson is, don't take no for an answer, especially from a dealer.
@@EDDIEcodename47 Yep, and thank goodness, I would have been left quite a bit poorer. I guess my main point is if the dealer tells you no take it higher.
The 2.4 in the 200 (and jeep cherokee/compass and dodge dart, Ram City) is produced in Dundee Mi. It was first designed during the DiamlerChrysler days, first seeing production in 2007. The engine was substantially upgraded in 2013, including the usage of Fiat's multi-air variable valve timing system. And the engine produces 184hp.
Hey Scotty! I am a proud owner of a 2012 Chrysler with 188,800 miles! The car has original engine and transmission!! Thank you for your video’s and opinions!
My father in law criticize me when I buy my wife a Kia Spectra 2001, at the same time he bought a Chevy Silverado same year. We drove that Spectra until it have 285,000 miles same engine, same transmission,no major problems just maintenance perform by myself, timing belt every 60,000 miles. My father in law truck transmission when out at 165,000 miles, he had to replace the alternator and the a/c compressor as well. I stop believing in what people say loooong time ago. If you like your car, that's all it matters. Just take care of the vehicle. With care you can run any car forever.
I drive a 2015 200c with the 3.6. Great car in my opinion. Very quiet on the road but you can really hear that sweet exhaust note when you get on the gas. Fast enough to put a smile on my face but also can get over 30 mpg on the highway.
Bought my 2015 200c with the 2.4 with 232,000 miles on it. Just rolled it over 278,000 miles. Still running great. Havent had any major issues with it. Routine oil changes. Changed spark plugs.Flushed coolant. Brake pads. Maintain it. It'll last.
I own a 2017 Chrysler 200 with 74000 miles. Maintenance and upkeep kept up with. No issues. If any it was under warranty. I have bought an extended warranty just to ensure zero out of my pocket. Once paid off keeping it for a few years. Next Honda or toyota
I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 now for 6 years. It's been more reliable and much cheaper than any Japanese or German car I've owned. Hands down best car I've ever owned.
All Fiat MultiAir engines make that noise even brand new. MultiAir engine's intake valves uses a valve tappet (cam follower), moved by a mechanical intake cam, which is connected to the intake valve through a hydraulic chamber, controlled by a normally open on/off solenoid valve. Those valve tappets and on/off solenoid valves are noisy
@@kevs2good133 both cars have the 2.4l option but many darts have a 1.4l turbo and a dual dry clutch auto trans, 200 has a v6 option ( but no 1.4 option)and a slightly better (but still poor) electrical system. The only part I can think of that is the same on both cars would be the electric power steering gear.
I have a 2015 Chrysler 200 bought it 5 year ago with 40k and now i am at 195k only have a starter replacement at 120k and it's still run like new i am hoping to put 300k on it.
I bought a brand new 2013 Dodge Dart GT, fully loaded, same exact engine as this Chrysler. Drove the piss out of it (probably cuz I was mad it wasn’t a v8). Had one strange electrical issue but all they had to do was reset the computer or something. Free. Never once had another electrical problem. Everything worked. Changed my oil religiously every 5k miles (manual said 8k I believe). 137k miles later a deer totaled it. I honestly miss that car, lots of great tech and not bad for a four banger. Maybe I got lucky, maybe it just comes down to people taking care of there cars. I took care of mine and she treated me well.
I had a 2015 Chrysler 200c with the same 2.4 engine. I probably did the same thing as you I drove that car everywhere I would find any excuse to drive it lol I loved it it had better tech than anyone’s car I knew and it never did me wrong.
End of life for a modern Chrysler, maybe. In decades past, some Chryslers were well-engineered. A friend's family owned a sedan that lasted so long they named it Methuselah.
@@qud3913 lol let's hope not, though to be fair, if it died on my way home i wouldn't be complaining. At 232k my tranny STARTED to slip, very impressive considering I've need touched it! Never changed the trans filter, never changed fluid, never even topped it up (of course checked it regularly). Instead of junking it, I decided to buy a used tranny for $250 (claimed 80k miles on it) and paid $100 for a 2 YEAR UNLIMITED MILE WARRANTY. That was almost a year ago. Labor was $550 at a local guy. With fluid my total was just under $1,000. So I still have a year warranty with unlimited miles but it shifts well, drives smooth. Idk but i love it.
the rattling sound sounds like a oil circulation issue. Many ,many Chryslers build up sludge because the ports are too small and the sludge simply bakes from the heat and clogs the engine ,therefore reducing lubrication.
My 2017 Chrysler 200 had 200m on it when I got it back in January 2018 and it now has over 51000m on it. Full synthetic oil change every 6k miles or every 3 months whichever comes first. Looks like the guy just got the sport interior trim because the 2017 200S has the 3.6l V6 AWD leather interior. Everything under the hood is original including the brakes in my 200. My engine sounds very healthy & my 9 speed auto makes it very quick.
This review is so unfair. I'll admit to having a soft spot for FCA. Having said this the Chrysler products I've owned have been fairly reliable. I'm sure many people watching this video will also have owned FCA products which were reliable. Also, Scotty is misinformed about the 2.4 liter engine. This world engine was a collaboration between Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, and Chrysler. Recently, Fiat added it's multi-air variable valve timing to the 2.4 liter engine. Scotty makes it sound like this engine is a Fiat design which it is not. Additionally, this vehicle was cancelled because FCA could not make a large profit on this, or any, of it's sedans. It was not cancelled due to poor quality. The 200 lives on as Jeep Cherokee. Although this engine supposedly has oil consumption issues, I read many positive reviews of this engine. Finally, Scotty is such a Toyota fanboy it make everything he says so biased. Everyone will agree that Toyota products are better than FCA products. That said, not everybody wants to own a Toyota. I don't. Don't listen to Scotty. If you want a Chrysler 200 purchase one and maintain it correctly. I'm sure it will be a fine car.
Well said, I love my 200 and will work on it until it breaks on me. Simple problems like any other car and can be worked on if you care about your vehicle. Many nice modifications too.
I agree. One should maintain ANY car correctly. And American drivers are NOTORIOUS for not maintaining their engines, so it doesn't really surprise me that so many people think non Toyota engines are crap - the only real difference is Toyotas are designed to be treated like crap and that's why they last longer without proper maintenance. Most PROPERLY maintained American cars will last a long time. And recently, I understand that the Japanese have stopped making their engines so bulletproof so now you have RAV4 drivers and such complaining about stuff they could have easily prevented. I guess Toyota finally figured out they can sell more cars this way :-)
We just won't talk about how the 2.4L world engine wasn't used in the 200's after 2014? I mean, "multi-air" is literally on the engine cover... after 2014 they switched to the tigershark and completely abandoned the world engine in chrysler, Jeep and dodge after 2017. I dislike 200's, I'm a current Chrysler technician, but this guy spews so much hate with so little knowledge. 1:58 into the video, and I can't take it seriously.
I owned a new 4 cyl 2016 Dodge Dart and it was reliable, fun and full of features. Ended up handing it down to my son who sold it at 65,000 miles since he wanted an MX-5. Never needed repairs and was a quiet and smooth ride. Ended up buying a loaded Chrysler 200c which had been sitting on the dealer lot for 13 months. Got a 30% discount and this car now has 42,000 trouble-free miles. The Pentastar V6 offers 295 hp and when we take the car on road trips it gets 33 MPG. The suite of safety features it impressive, including blind spot alert, lane keep but the adaptive cruise control is the best option I have ever gotten on a car. We drove from Los Angeles to Oakland and once I got on the freeway near our house I didn't touch the accelerator pedal or brakes the whole way. The self-parking feature is nifty too. At the time I priced a comparably equipped Ford Fusion and the Monroney was over $43,000. My 200 was under $30,000 out-the-door and I haven't looked back since.
alfa romeo/fiat multiair engine is brilliant and sounds amazing with a cat back exhuast, what an intuitive way to create a VVT system with the multiair unit. that engine will last for miles if kept in good condition. Only Multi-Air heads feature electro-hydraulic variable valve timing and lift.
My last 3 vehicles were Chrysler.... 2005 Grand Cherokee, 2012 Chrysler 300 and 2017 Ram 1500... I bought them all brand new and made sure maintenance was done properly.... I have never had any problems with any of these vehicles. But also none of those vehicles didn’t have FIAT parts. They were all designed during Daimler Chrysler days.
A friend bough a base 2015 model and told him to get rid of it. The transmission failed at 15K miles and show signs of engine failure. Last Sunday a group of a gang stole the car when he was working. It is what it is..
Matteo Fabbris I mean he is not wrong, the 200 is a terrible car, loud thrashy 4 cylinder engine that viberates at idle, horrible ZF 9 speed that has poor shift quality and is known for leaving people stranded, crappy electronics that will tell you to put the car in park, but will not shift into park. Just to name a couple example of how bad this car is
Michael Earll My dad has a company Chrysler 200 and it’s a 2016 with over 200,000 miles on it and it runs great! And it’s surprisingly a good car. I never liked Chrysler’s but disagree with Scotty on this one.
I'm surprised that Scotty hasn't been sued over this video. I own a 2016 200 with the TigerShark engine. I got it with 83000 miles on it. Other than damage done when the previous owner lost control and went off road and broke the transmission, which hadn't been fixed when I obtained it I have had no problems. His "facts" are as accurate as the news on Fox News. It is my guess that Scotty owns a lot of Toyota stock. I think that the 200 in this video is probably the first 200 that Scotty has ever had his hands on.
So far you've saved me from buying two money pits, the first was a used Mercedes and this was the 2nd one. Dealer was reallly trying to push that Chrysler 200 but when I asked how many came back to the service department with issues the manager and salesman got silent.
I bought a 2015 200C with 295 hp 6, awd and every safety device that you could think of. No other car had a complete safety suite like this. Not Mercedes, Audi, Porsche etc. I had injured my neck and needed this to drive safely. I am at 70,000 miles with not a single problem. Why did people buy that 4 cyl ? You should talk about the C 6 cyl, a completely different vehicle.
Just got rid of my 2014 200s for a 2020 sonata. The trans was rebuilt at 35,000 miles....I will never buy another Dodge/Chrysler affiliated product in my life.
Thanks for this vid Scotty, when that 200 came out, I was driving a Sebring! And I thought that 200 was beautiful, I went and test drove one, I knew more about it than the salesman and he seemed to get some attitude about that and I just left and saved my money.
How about you actually do some research on this engine the engine noise is not a bad thing as the multi air engine uses a hydraulic valve system and can vary the valve lift and duration by bleeding the hydraulic pressure from the actuation of the valve lift and that noise is actually the oil impacting the valve cover at over 500psi the multiair engine yes it is made in USA but it is a design adapted from Fiat. The engine is actually very technologically advanced.
The tigershark 2.4l were built in Dundee, Michigan not italy. The only Fiat tech in that engine was the multiair system that replaced the intake camshaft. As the car itself it was released with terrible transmission calibrations because the release was rushed to get the current cherokee out. Once those calibrations were updated the car was actually pretty good. But the damage had been done and people stopped buying them. But suprise, the current Jeep cherokee is exactly the same vehicle with a different body.
I own a 2015 Limited that is turning 102,000 mile. Regular oil changes,Air filter, tires, battery, and spark plugs. It's been a great commuter car for me. Guess I got lucky. Seems like the modern version of the Plymouth Valiant. P.S. The tires lasted nearly 80K miles and I get high 30's gas mileage on the highway.
That's what I've been looking at. Deals are out there. Want the AWD V6 with reasonable miles. Pentastar V6 a pretty solid engine, as was the previous Chrysler V6.
Back when the 200 came out my brother rented one and drove from airport to visit me. I rode with him about 100 miles and back , was glad to get out of that vehicle. It was difficult to get into , rode rough, noisy, power was lacking in acceleration .
Scotty, ive been a longtime subscriber but honestly i feel like you didn't do any research about these cars before making this video. Yes this replaced the seabring, but dosent share the platform and it has no relation to it whatsoever. Also it received a 5 star safety rating for the side pole, which is one more than that 2016 Camry you keep mentioning. And for the brake pads there are 2 options not 6, the 4 cylinder gets the smaller ones(305mm) and the v6 gets the bigger ones(330mm). My 2015 Chrysler 200s will hit the 100k mile mark in about a week or two. It's Driven almost 100 miles a day and its only had two issues. first was my alternator(most likely from my sound system) but it was under warranty and second was a thermostat housing, which was a $35 fix i did in my driveway in about 20 minutes. I bought it for $18k (used with 15K miles on it) fully loaded with the 3.6L and awd, its been nothing but reliable and a blast.
@@samanthaihde2419 I'm about to hit 142k. I did end up having a ptu problem at 101k, that they covered for me. In the last 42k I did brakes, rear struts and a rear wheel bearing. I understand I've had good luck. That being said, my problem was that everything he mentioned about this car was about the 1st gen 200. The only thing they share is the name. Not sure what you expect when buying the economy car of one of the least reliable car brands🤷♂️
I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 and mine has only needed 2 tire pressure sensor things and a new gas cap, a heated seat module, and a windshield (not the cars fault lol). I'm at 73k now so idk what your cars problem is lol.
The v6 engine is a much better option over the 4 cyl. Noteable improvement on reliability. I got the same 3.6L v6 on a caravan with over 150k miles without issue
I have the same car bought it used with 67k miles I have 110k now and I swear on my moms life I never did a thing except changing the oil every 5-6 k miles and brakes still drives like when I got it
So I traded out of a fully loaded 200 V6 for a dart rallye turbo 4cyl to save on gas needless to car the dart crapped out at 130k on its 2nd transmission! I’m all set with Chrysler/Fiat/Dodge crap

I remember Dale Gribble quoted that FIAT saying on the first episode of King of the Hill. Lol
The engine is actually very technologically advanced.
when you see a Chrysler on the road it’s either on it’s way to the shop or coming back from the shop
Back when the 200 came out my brother rented one and drove from airport to visit me. I rode with him about 100 miles and back , was glad to get out of that vehicle. It was difficult to get into , rode rough, noisy, power was lacking in acceleration .
The Chrysler 200 with the V6 are very nice
That laughing cat @6:27 got me LMAO! 😁
The rise and fall of the Chrysler 200? There was never a rise 😂😂
A rise in money pits that is.
I'm sure someone put a bread maker in the trunk at least once
A rise in repair costs
They did sell a bunch of them.
Mine has 150k on it and the transmission has died. Lol. They're garbage cars. They are certified lemons.
Had one once as a rental, actually liked how it drove and how it looked
Just got one for 48k miles lmao he’s making me hate my car Sike nah I love it, I’ll just make sure it mantinced properly
@@isaiahjeter6811 yeah man I got a 200 too, I love it.
My 2012 2.4l has a loose wiring harness that I'm trying to figure out how to tighten. It looses power and misfires until I press the harness.
I own one of these vehicles and I have had it serviced 10 plus times over the course of 1 year.
Aaaaaannndd you haven't traded it in why ?
@@vicaras1 Probably too much negative equity.
I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 and mine has only needed 2 tire pressure sensor things and a new gas cap, a heated seat module, and a windshield (not the cars fault lol). I'm at 73k now so idk what your cars problem is lol.
Whats the list of things done to it in the last year?
@@lw4mma exactly the reason
Got my dad a CPO v6 AWD 200S for $14k with 12k miles and it’s still running strong 🤷♂️
@@mcc7762 it's at 50k now problem free. Maybe it's cause I got the v6?
1 always make it out lol
@@youtubetv1588 The 3.6 litre ones really get up and go..fast!Have fun with it!
The v6 engine is a much better option over the 4 cyl. Noteable improvement on reliability. I got the same 3.6L v6 on a caravan with over 150k miles without issue
12,000 miles and already lost half it’s original price. Scary.
I have the same car bought it used with 67k miles I have 110k now and I swear on my moms life I never did a thing except changing the oil every 5-6 k miles and brakes still drives like when I got it
Same .it's a good car
Just take care of your cars and you won't have problems
So I traded out of a fully loaded 200 V6 for a dart rallye turbo 4cyl to save on gas needless to car the dart crapped out at 130k on its 2nd transmission! I’m all set with Chrysler/Fiat/Dodge crap
