one of the best live/studio versions of what is already one of the darkest and most intense songs ever by the Cure - just a big shame that the end cuts off abruptly rather than allow us another minute of that killer guitar solo which really DOES sound like the end of the world !!
As a guitarist who just recently got into bass playing and is still in the process of learning from other people's songs I completely agree. Simon Gallup and Andy Rourke (The Smiths) are my favourites.
Tolhurst came out to play keys.... There was NO DRUMMER... This is what the Cure is... They can do anything... They make it seem so easy without a drummer...
The rythm of this song is made by the drum machine, later live versions of this song didn't have the same atmosphere and the force to make you dance to this nihilistic piece of art...
The rythm which Boris Williams creates on that version is no more slower than this was , I'd say it's a higher tempo version overall and the outro guitar solo is top! U can't demand more from a live performance, calling it trash is unfair
@@joff2440 Sadly, he would be out of The Cure from the summer of 1982 through the fall of 1984. He and Robert Smith would make up just before the sessions for their 1985 album, The Head on the Door, had started. During his break from The Cure, Gallup would form a new band called Cry with Matthieu Hartley (who played keyboards with The Cure from 1979-80) and Gary Biddles, but the name of their band was soon changed to Fools Dance; while Smith would also get busy reforming The Cure with Andy Anderson on drums and Phil Thornalley (who co-produced the _Pornography_ album) on bass, as well as again finding himself in the company of Siouxsie & the Banshees as a replacement for John McGeoch (Smith previously played with The Banshees in the summer of 1979 as a fill-in for John McKay); Smith's reunion with The Banshees produced a live album and video, _Nocturne_ ; the studio album _Hyaena_ ; and also a side project with Banshees bassist Steve Severin, The Glove, which released one album, _Blue Sunshine._
