The little boy skating always makes me smile.
I always remeber your comment when studying this scene.
I remember these skating tents with a potbelly stove in the middle as a child.
Extra terrestrials come to earth to see this film
know it's a violin but think about the skates at this guy's moving on killing it ❤
He’s not really playing 😂it’s overdubbed.🤣🤦🏻♂️
He was, in fact, the film's composer.
One of the most under rated cinematographic wonders to come out of the USA. God Bless America. Thank you. Tony Clarke Australia.
Right you are...
When I he'd dis music
If the skating fiddle player is all you come away with from this film, then you are missing the point of an incredible piece of cinematography. Amongst Michael Cimino’s finest work aided by an excellent cast.
That skating fiddler, David Mansfield, composed all the music for the movie. He was 23.
Saw this movie when it was released and later at a screening at the Museum of the Moving Image in London (better theater) have always loved it though Cimino chose to film in the Glacier NP area in Montana instead of Johnson county WY where the story was based. The history is compelling and does not show the government and cattlemen of 1890 in a good light. Masterpiece
Jedna z najlepszych filmowych sciezek dzwiekowych , gratulacje dla Davida Mansfielda
stworzyl cos wyjatkowego
His work was great, and he got nominated for Razzie and Stinker for his soundtrack. A shame!
This scene alone took 7 days to film!
Cimino owned the land he was leasing to the studio for production, a detail he conveniently omitted. This is why he had sets torn town and rebuilt because "the street wasn't wide enough", he was getting paid twice.
Pure Joy...
Amazing
A wonderful picture. Not to be missed.
Life is a comedy with tragic relief.🐿️
Good film clip.

🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎
I watched this movie when it first came out on VHS. I managed to stay awake for the whole thing, but it was so boring it made me want to put on black Nikes and eat poisoned applesauce.
I remember that movie it was fun to watch so the movie is about this guy that plays the fiddle and roller skates I need to watch this movie and see how he learned to do this looks like a great movie
Under rated implies that something deserves to be considered better. Does not apply to, “Heaven’s Gate”.
Oi❤👏
😅
This movie is very long
Lawrence of Arabia is about the same length at 3:45
@@freedom_rock18 3:45:00
@@freedom_rock18 GWTW is the same length as the original cut of HG (219 minutes.)

This is the movie that bankrupted MGM and changed Hollywood contracts forever.
Then finally MGM deal with United Artists
Still a really brilliant movie:
🙏🏻💔🙏🏽
I know that’s the popular version of the story, but not even close to the truth. Transamerica stock dipped a whopping one point when Heavens Gate debuted to hideous reviews, and made it back the next day.
UA was later sold to MGM for more than 3 times what Transamerica paid for it.
This movie was certainly a financial liability, but it didn’t bankrupt anything.
@@hibob418 Oh, yes it did.
@@theylied1776 Hate to break this to you, but MGM didn’t even own United Artists when Heaven’s Gate was produced or even released. So your premise that MGM was bankrupted by this film is ridiculous.
Transamerica owned UA at the time and shrugged off the loss, but it ultimately cost UA VP’s Stephen Bach and David Fields their jobs. Moonraker actually cost more to make than Heavens Gate and kept United Artists in the black that year.
Plenty of books you can read for the facts, including Stephen Bach’s “Final Cut,” which is all about UA and the making of Heaven’s Gate, and the new book, “Cimino: The Deer Hunter, Heaven’s Gate and the Price of a Vision,” by Charles Elton. That’s all about director Michael Cimino.
This movie bombed because it's a western with no cowboy hats.
I'm surprised at how many people think this movie was great or a masterpiece. I watched the entire uncut version and it was excruciating. I mean its possibly the worst "major" motion picture ive ever seen. For someone like Cimino who had intense attention to detail yet in 4 hours the story was disjointed and not cohesive the sound was awful and scenes went on and on like the roller rink dance sequence which basically done twice when Cimino got his point across the first time! There was rambling dialog especially John Hurts character and then the million dollar scene of nothing but dust. Couldn't lots of fans create dust and not cost a million dollars? The movie was and is horrendous and I tend to be extremely generous when I critique films. Heavens Gate was a rambling mess.
I loved it. In fact, I've watched it three times. Sometimes long scenes and rambling dialog is exactly what a movie needs!
I've seen three versions of Heaven's Gate: the 219-minute version, the 149-minute version, and the digitally restored 216-minute version. The 149-minute version is faster paced and has better sound but the plot is less coherent. The 149-minute version rearranged the order of scenes, cut a lot of stuff out, and added things that were not in the 219-minute version.
The 216-minute version is similar to the 219-minute version except the intermission was cut, some scenes were shortened, and the film's colours were adjusted to remove the sepia tint that's in the other versions. In my opinion the 216-minute version is the best version.
Personally I think Heaven's Gate is neither a masterpiece nor one of the worst movies ever made. It's an ambitious but flawed film that comes close to greatness at times.
We are white gods, white glowing lords of this rock. That’s what we are, that’s what we will be again!
