- Nate Champion (Christopher Walken) goes out guns a-blazing in this scene from Michael Cimino's misunderstood masterpiece, "Heaven's Gate". With Sam Waterston, Mickey Rourke, Isabelle Hupert, Ronnie Hawkins and Geoffrey Lewis
So many animals were abused and killed during the filming
Not the usual role for Sam Waterston, but he was a very effective villain.
Nate Champion was neither a cattle rustler nor a hired killer. He was a legitimate rancher and a brave man.
Champion’s last stand is my favorite part of the movie, it’s so well made, I cried when I saw him dying, Christopher Walken is amazing
The movie deals with the origin of a Nation, that persists today, that deals with great contrasts: University, big city, normal life...but in appearence...then violence, guns, shooting and cruel murdering...all in a context of a beautiful nature background of the Wyoming.
Christopher Walken notorious hated guns - this must have been torture.
Nate Champion walked so John Marston could run
Fascinating how most of them are using 1860 Henry repeating rifles. Presumably with the 44. Henry round. I liked the film. Truly classic material.
sad that this film was so misunderstood when it came out. over indulgent at points, but it's not a bad film, and sad that it essentially ruined someone's career, think about the great films we never got because of this film's production.
So no one's going to mention John Marston?
IMO this shootouts of 40 years ago were better done than they do today! Brutal and realistic without CGI.
Every frame on this movie is almost or perfect.
It made me cry that I saw him dying
Again, my thanks for posting this scene.
One of the few scenes actually based on real events
