I’ve always been interested in history, myself. Specifically pre-gunpowder weapons history. Granted my knowledge of the subject is amateurish at best, but still.
I mean, for some reason I’ve always had a lot of questions, with the history of various civilizations. Especially in the Americas, prior to Columbus ‘discovering’ them, since all we really have to go on is word-of-mouth traditions and archeological/paleological remains.
Classical Antiquity, the Golden age and the Bronze age is important and really cool to learn about. Those are our ancestors and forfathers. They were absolute badasses too.
At 3:54 where she talks about the conference where mammoth meat was served, it turns out that was inaccurate. The conference in question was actually in 1951 and indeed a mysterious “prehistoric meat” was served. Later it was determined that the meat in question was green sea turtle meat advertised differently for fun.
Since Earth isn't 30,000 years old, it would make more sense for them to use less speculation, and something where more forensic evidence and documentation actually exists, and compare / contrast based on that. Red Dead lends itself well to this.
Have the historians react through Assassin's Creed from start to current year Assassins Creed game. And make sure to tell them about the history of Ubisoft claiming to be 'historically accurate' about their games.
Not to mention even in modern day we see tons of wildcats and bears being conditioned and some even raised by a person who then become domesticated enough to see them as their family, literally everything has been.
Also correct me if I'm wrong I'm pretty sure only neanderthals in that period had women and men hunting while our ancestors were mostly hunter-gatherers. this was because neanderthals hunted only big game while our ancestors hunted and harvested wild plants. which is why theythen decided to split labor between sexes
@Yo Momma well I'm saying this because she never specified she just said some tribes and does it say on google if its our ancestors, or is it the neanderthals because that's what I want to make sure of.
Well, there was sabertoothed cats in late Pleistocene in Europe, in the northwestern mostly, it was Homotherium latindens. They could have seen humans but probably they gone extinct far before 10K ago. But homotheriums didn`t have such a giant canines as smilodons did (and as depicted cat did too) who were truly endemic to Americas.
Most of the historic evidence is underneath the water unless they're also divers. There weren't only migrating hunter gatherers in that time period. They had villages, temples, boats, advanced fishing traps.
It's mostly true that Cave Bears were vegetarians but recent revaluation of bones say that they were more herbivorous than most bears nowadays, but they were still omnivores.
3:04 - 3:10 I’m not sure either but I do think it’s more than probable that they did have natural forming dreads, since this type of hair style doesn’t require any maintenance for it to curl and naturally form dreads
4:55 I'd like to see a citation for that claim. I think it may be true about neanderthal but all recent hunter gatherers had division of Labor and at some sites like Malta in Siberia and Ohalo in Israel we have evidence of men's and women's spaces.
From my understanding the game take place within the last few hundred years of the last ice age. Hell your tribe still lives in a cave in the beginning. So I imagine those divisions of labor still haven't taken hold.
Yeah, I like that they mentioned people in the upper Paleolithic living on a strict diet of meat being beyond absurd. They were omnivorous just like us. In fact, most historians would agree that game meat was more of a treat. A steady diet of fruits, berries, fungus and fish is far more realistic, as they were more abundant resources, and didn't share the likelihood of loss of manpower as something like a mammoth hunt. Also, as they mentioned, the preservation of meat, even with their adapted immune systems, would have proven problematic, because rancid meat is rancid meat no matter your immune strength.
You may not have sabre-toothed cats in 10,000 BC, but sabre-toothed cats, a lot different to the North and South American smilodon, were living in Europe during the ice age. Evidence has been found in the North Sea.
It's interesting how historians have so much knowledge based completely in guesswork and yet seem so sure they're correct because it's commonly accepted.

In hunter/gatherer societies, the vast majority of food was gained via the gatherers. More often than not, hunts were unsuccessful for varying reasons. However, when a hunt was successful, the amount of food and materials (bone, sinew, pelts, etc.) gained was immense.
The lady said that the hunting party should have been mixed sex. One question: In all the primitive societies that still exist today (Africa, South America, Papua New-Guinea and so forth), is there any form of mixed sex hunting? The reason I ask is I have read a bit over the years about various such cultures (just for fun, no deep studies), and nowhere have I encountered anything like that. And to me, it makes sense. Women are valuable - they make more people. Why would you risk them if you didn't have to? The reason we find ancient skeletons of both males and females that show injuries is probably because the ancient hunter-gatherer life was kinda hard. Just a thought.
Looking at the hunter-gatherer societies that are left today you would actually find evidence of both, like the Aeta people in the Philipines where women and men hunt, or some tribes in africa where only men hunt. But you also have to bear in mind, that the cultures of the Paleolithic were incredibly diverse, that making statements like "Man the Hunter, Woman the Gatherer" would be incredibly simplistic and reductionist. And women are more valuable from a populational standpoint, but, in the situation of the game, where they "Kill the mammoth or we all die", would you really get rid of roughly 50% of your available manpower and skill?
@@GabrielSoares-qp1he How ironic that your comment is incredibly simplistic and reductionist. Sure women did hunt when there was no other possible way of avoiding it to survive. But at least somewhat stable tribes would never go on a hunt with a woman, that is so stupid, its absurd to even think of. Not only men are naturally more competitive and physically stronger to take down a prey, but women could not simply "go to hunt" while they are pregnant or have children to take care at home and chores like berries to gather, clothing to craft, food to cook. These "historians" are just another victims of left propaganda.

I really feel the need to correct them, when they burst out laughing at the concept of a domesticated cheetah, while it's true big cats cant be bred into domestication they CAN be tamed and theres a huge difference

@@Chris-H02 yeah, history in general is pretty cool.

Architects react to Bloodborne.
Historians react to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Since Earth isn't 30,000 years old, it would make more sense for them to use less speculation, and something where more forensic evidence and documentation actually exists, and compare / contrast based on that. Red Dead lends itself well to this.
Far Cry Primal was so underrated.

The pets in game are not domesticated. They are just conditioned and have a dependency on a certain caveman. Thats real behavour that happend
Yes, I am glad you pointed this out
Not to mention even in modern day we see tons of wildcats and bears being conditioned and some even raised by a person who then become domesticated enough to see them as their family, literally everything has been.

You're probably right
@Yo Momma well I'm saying this because she never specified she just said some tribes and does it say on google if its our ancestors, or is it the neanderthals because that's what I want to make sure of.

This was so much more informative than any history class I've ever taken during school
You clearly never attended any sort of post-secondary educational institution, then..
Most of the historic evidence is underneath the water unless they're also divers. There weren't only migrating hunter gatherers in that time period. They had villages, temples, boats, advanced fishing traps.
These two are my favorite professionals so far!
It's mostly true that Cave Bears were vegetarians but recent revaluation of bones say that they were more herbivorous than most bears nowadays, but they were still omnivores.

Historians react to kingdom come deliverance. That game has so much accuracy its insane
You realize there are more animals than mammoths? Don't think anyone's dying hunting a squirrel.
i love how both of their skills can exsplain some of the things in here and the how the subject can change from episode to episode
Its not based completely in guesswork. Take forensics for example. Scientists can glean facts based on evidence. Forensic anthropology does this.

I'm not sure why you guys called this "Historians React." The age primal takes place was pre-history so it should really be "archaeologists react" or "anthropologists react." In hunter/gatherer societies, the vast majority of food was gained via the gatherers.
