Great video. You read my mind on many of those picks. One band I can’t listen to, despite decades of committed ‘right, let’s plunge in’ moments, is Death. Don’t get me wrong, they were brilliant, massively influential, Chuck was a metal maestro and they deserve every shred of praise they get. But I really f***ing struggle to get through a single song.

Not inclined to argue with any of your list, really. Our tastes seem to accidentally align reasonably well. I like your insight on many things, like "all artists are self-indulgent to a certain extent". I totally agree!
THIS! Agree 100%. Baloff was "bad" but it "worked" OK... but he was a disaster of a person with the drugs and all the related drama. Bonded By Blood is a classic right up there with Kill Em All... but yes the vocals are a weak point but they were passable. Zetro... well I think he was great on the Legacy demo (before they became Testament) but don't really like anything much after that. To be fair he has gotten better on some of the later albums like Tempo Of the Damned. Totally agree on the nasal sound and I don't like the politics of the lyrics. I saw him several years ago do some AC/DC covers at a benefit show for the former bassist of Y&T and finally realized after all these years he is basically trying to do Bon Scott... love Bon... doesn't do it for me with Exodus. I do like the UA-cam interview show Zetro has been doing. Rob Dukes FINALLY was the vocalist Exodus always needed. The kind of aggressiveness that perfectly matched the riffs. Every album with Dukes is awesome! That being said I did see a show with Dukes where he was non stop spitting on the stage and it was absolutely disgusting... but he still sounded as good as the record.
@@ThatMetalBloke Rob Dukes was my favorite vocalist in Exodus. The three studio albums he recorded with them are among the most consistent and heavy music they did. Not a fan of Zetro. edit: I see that others have commented the same!

What a great backdrop for a video. I agree with everything in this. Even Exodus, and yet when I think of that section, it’s the same thought I had at the start with them. Zetro is basically a more pissed off vocally version of Bon Scott in some sense. I’m sure you have heard Exodus with Rob Dukes? If so what did you think of that era of Exodus?
There aren't many bands I genuinely dislike, but if I made a list like yours, Maroon 5 would be on it. On a side note, I love the landscape in your video. Born and raised in Canada's prairie provinces, your video reminds me of home.
I agree 100 percent with Exodus. Not an outright terrible band by any means, as they have some good songs and the instrumental aspects of them can be really good and even great. They’re damn good in that department. It’s their singer that is the big weak link for me like you said. He’s not the worst singer ever but something about his style is just off for me and takes me out of the experience. I’d probably like them and listen to them more if they had a different vocalist
A lot of people have recommended the Rob Dukes era of the band to me and I find that way more enjoyable. His voice fits their music way better in my opinion
Gotta agree with a lot of these, man. Great vid. As a fan of Anthrax, I actually got into them via their more groove metal 1990s albums with John Bush on vocals. The Sound of White Noise and Stomp 442 are utterly pummelling and much different from the Balledonna stuff. Motley Crue’s self-titled album which they recorded with John Corabi instead of Neil is also pretty stellar, with much less vapid songs and a far heavier, dirtier sound and darker tone (because 90s grunge, but still). Like with Bush era Anthrax, it’s basically a different band so shouldn’t be dismissed sight unseen. I’m guessing you’re very aware of these, but just thought I’d mention them.
First album I heard from them was Sound of White Noise which I enjoyed quite a bit but I kind of fell off from there. MC self-titled had some good stuff but I think they were a bit shitty to John from what I remember.
You're hard to disagree with. I love Anthrax but it seems every year another of their albums falls off my essential pile. With you all the way on most of these. Definitely another video please
Anthrax like Status Quo and Quiet Riot are mostly known to the masses for cover songs which is sad. I have seen Anthrax live twice. I haven't liked them much since 1980's, and i don't think i can name one song they made after 1990.
@@V3ntilator "Anthrax is known for cover songs" I am sorry but what? I think you forgot that Madhouse and Indians exist, and those are 2 of their most popular songs.
@@DustyEchozy I know, but when i were at a big festival with all kinds of non metal people, the masses didn't cheer until Antisocial started... It's like it were the only Anthrax song they knew. As for metal heads, Madhouse and Indians is more famous.
I'm an Anthrax fan from way back, but i get it when you just can't get into a band no matter how much you want to. I feel the same about Testament and Overkill. Even seeing them live didn't change my mind...I don't hate them, but...nothing. That's art, I guess. I can't get into Kiss, but Alive is a corker of an album.
The thing with classic Anthrax is, you have to be an oldschool metalhead (because of the 80s speed metal style vocals) and have some appreciation for 80s hardcore punk (because of the overall vibe). That's why so many late-Gen Xers, Millennials, and Gen Zs (who probably grew up with Pantera and Slipknot) look down upon the band.
I'd put the big four in the exact same order as you for the same reasons. I had one Anthrax album on cassette and kept getting that song about the persistence of time stuck in my head, but really can't remember the other stuff. I never got into the glam bands really. Not sure what category Skid Row were in, but I really like their album "Skid Row", and still listen to it now. Singing along in my car, demonstrating the full range of my voice....scaring all the local wildlife...
Kiss was my reason for liking music, I was a huge Ace Frehley fan and he was the reason I picked up a guitar. And that was my first concert to was the 1976 Destroyer Tour with them Bob Segar and UFO. But when the make up came off the first time and Ace and Peter not being in the band anymore was when I fell out of love with that band.
If you haven't seen it there is a UA-cam vid of Paul Stanley on Steve Jones' radio show. I was surprised at how nice and genuine he comes over and his knowledge of UK music is amazing.
It's been said before, but I just can't get over your way of saying "I don't like them" instead of "They suck, and if you like them, you suck, too". That something that should be self-evident feels exceptional enough to point out is saying something about the way our social interactions went downhill, indeed. Anyway, well done!
There's so many new metal channels appearing lol. But for me, it has to be U2, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Pearl Jam, Kiss, RATM, Marilyn Manson, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, 5FDP, Ice Nine Kills, Motionless in White, Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria (etc etc etc). Anthrax, never listened to them, but I've never felt compelled to listen to them
Smashing pumpkins are one of my favorites and i only like the hits from foo fighters. I’ve never heard anyone say that foo fighters is their favorite band its just there in playlists.
@@grahamcollins2350 Frucci is cool too. I still think Dave created something special with One Hot Minute. That psychedelic sound and distortion in combination with Ant's singing was great. Quite dark in some of the songs too. Next album Californication still very good, but let's be honest, bit of a downgrade.
I'm with you on every band on this list, except Pearl Jam. I also discovered Pearl Jam when I was like 12, and they were one of the first rock bands I listened to on my own, without my dad's influence, so I'm a little biased there. I used to love The Offspring and Coldplay too, but I outgrew them when I was still a kid. Every other band: I've checked out or at least heard songs, and nothing ever made me want to keep listening.
How any metal fan can’t love or at least appreciate Among the Living is beyond me, that album is classic 80’s metal that should appeal to any thrash fan
Have you listened to the Rob Dukes era of Exodus? That era was pretty solid and the vocal style is very different. I don't watch you enough to know if you have but I just wanted to mention it.
For me the breakthrough with Anthrax was the addition of John Bush. No more outdated squealy vocals. Proper man voice, with great technical chops. That was also when they dropped some of their clownish tendencies for a while. Still love those albums while finding the Belladonna ones borderline.
I’m gunna be that annoying guy that can’t handle someone not liking a band I like 😫😂 Pretty fly for a white guy is god awful and pretty much anything they have done since. But have you ever heard there early early stuff? Ignition is a fantastic raw punk album
I second on Ignition, overall I like it better than Smash. But also their debut album, on which they sound a bit more like T.S.O.L. Bad Religion on the other hand. 😑😴
I was a huge Metallica fan back in the day. Three of the four walls in my bedroom were dedicated to them, like literally covered from floor to ceiling in posters and pages ripped out of Kerrang. I waited outside my local hmv the day ‘justice’ came out (much to the puzzlement of the staff) and was lucky enough to see them on that tour but when I first heard the black album I was so disappointed. With each track I was anticipating that smack in the face as they kicked into gear and with each track my disappointment deepened when it never came. I was absolutely gutted. By the time load came out I didn’t even recognise them anymore, they had become everything they had previously claimed to hate. I’m over it now of course but sometimes I do wonder what they might have done if they’d retained their artistic integrity, I think they still would have become one of the biggest bands ever but I guess we’ll never know. Also, yeah fuck the offspring and Coldplay.
I still enjoy Metallica myself but I didn't get into them until the Black Album so I just took it for what it was. They are the band that got me into much heavier music though. Within a few months of listening to Metallica I was listening to Sepultura, Pantera and Napalm Death 🤣
I'm with you on this one. I got into them when Ride the Lightning was their most recent album, and like you, waited outside the mall music store to get their new album (at the time Master of Puppets) on release day when it came out. I found myself really only liking about half of Justice however, and when the Black Album came out, I was completely let down. I liked a few tunes on Death Magnetic, but overall, it's been extremely hit or miss since then. Mostly miss, if I'm honest. And for fuck's sake, can they pleeeease stop with the Unforgiven sequels? They had a hit with the first one. I get it. But enough already.
First 3 albums and maybe the garage day ep... forget the rest IMNSHO. Totally un-interested in anything they are doing now. Pretty much burnt on all the old stuff too... so I just don't listen to a lot of Metallica anymore.... but I remember when none of the kids knew who they were at school... back then they were really cool.
The general consensus is losing Cliff Burton completely changed everything. They bullied Jason Newsted and grew increasingly paranoid over future albums to the point where they imploded, Jason quit, and Rob Trujillo joined and restored peace within the band. They obviously will never hit the heights of those first few albums with the new stuff they put out, but at least they still tour and embrace performing the olden goldies.
On Exodus. If you dislike Zetros vocals I can completely comprehend. But by all means mate give the 3 Rob Dukes albums a chance. They are absolutely beyond incredible, especially Exhibit B. The Sun Is my Destroyer is such an awesome awesome song! And they have killer song topics on this one as well.
I love Exodus but I definitely understand your issues with Zetro. I like his vocals but many do not. My favorite thrash album of all-time is Vio-lence's Eternal Nightmare and there are so many people that cannot get into it only because of the vocals. I have never heard one bad comment about the music. My question to you sir is: -Have you listened to the Rob Dukes era albums? Any better?

Agreed! It was subtle but Theater of Pain was definitely not the same Crüe anymore. On the surface some songs sound like the first 2 but when you peel back a couple of layers, it was clear the type of band they would eventually become.
I'm exactly the same with Anthrax, I saw them at Bloodstock once and I was just standing off to the side and watching, nodding along a bit. Half way through the set Joey starting pointing menacingly at people not having enough fun, and his arm swung in my direction, I didn't react thinking he couldn't possibly be pointing at me as the crowd was massive, but then he jabbed his finger again, I pointed at myself in a questioning sort of way and he nodded, equally menacingly. That was funny.

I was hoping Korn would be on this list. I'm still bitter about them being so big in my late teens. That's all anyone wanted to play. Jamming was starting to suck.

I wasn’t into Exodus as well. It took me along time to get into Exodus. Rob Dukes helped me with that, then one day I got into Bonded by Blood. Overkill was one band I also had a hard time getting into. Then one is clicked. Cheers

I recognise that they still come up with decent riffs, but they did stop standing out many, many years ago for me.

I think you would like Rob Dukes era Exodus. Much more of a venomous, raspy vocal style. Plus, Dukes is a fucking beast!!!
Getting rid of him was the biggest mistake the band or dukes or whoever in charge of this decision ever made.
I enjoy his podcast and he seems to be a great dude so I need to check that out.
Yuck.
Zetro, is the only voice for Exodus ❤❤
I agree
THIS!
Aside from exodus as seeing them live made me reconsider. I think I agree with every single other band here 🍺
Cheers mate. I would love to get into Exodus but I just can't get past the vocals. Gary Holt is an absolute legend though
@@ThatMetalBloke Rob Dukes was my favorite vocalist in Exodus. The three studio albums he recorded with them are among the most consistent and heavy music they did. Not a fan of Zetro. edit: I see that others have commented the same!
Coldplay is literally my favorite band (I also love chris martin), but what you said was freaking hilarious! Cheers!
Coldplay is in my top 10 but they can be frustrating. Moon Music really disappointed me.
@@rawkguy4896 They can be frusterating. I personally really liked moon music but I see why other people wouldn't. MOTS is the disappointing album for me.

You´re still talking respectfully and showing appreciation when it comes to the bands you hate. That´s a cool move.
I've never enjoyed saying bad things about bands so I am glad that it came across that way in the video
Except The Offspring 😂😂😂😂
Except Offspring... They were actually great before Pretty Fly...
When my favorite band is the longest video segment, I know it’s about to be good
Hope you enjoyed it 🤘
Gotta agree with a lot of these, man.
This is fucking crazy dude. I agree with 9/10 of your takes. Never met someone that hates the same way I do. Nice job brother.
You're hard to disagree with. I love Anthrax but it seems every year another of their albums falls off my essential pile. With you all the way on most of these. Definitely another video please
I would love to get into Anthrax but it ain't happened yet. Hopefully their next album will be the one to sway me but I have my doubts
Anthrax like Status Quo and Quiet Riot are mostly known to the masses for cover songs which is sad.
I have seen Anthrax live twice. I haven't liked them much since 1980's, and i don't think i can name one song they made after 1990.
I disagree, Worship Music is great but hey, to each their own.
I'm with you regarding Anthrax.
You hate Pearl jam ...you gained a fan 😂
Strange isn't it. I love Anthrax and Testament, but have never liked Slayer. No accounting for taste, I guess.
10:33 lol when his impression of Chris Martin’s happy go lively attitude killed me
I'd put the big four in the exact same order as you for the same reasons.
I thought the first few Skid ROw albums were great. I still listen to "18 & Life" a lot. Great song.
Nobody questioning his dislike for Jane's Addiction!! It's difficult for me to consider a soul amongst the lot of you!
Really enjoyed this video
Thanks a lot. Glad you enjoyed it 🤘
Kiss was my reason for liking music, I was a huge Ace Frehley fan and he was the reason I picked up a guitar. And that was my first concert to was the 1976 Destroyer Tour with them Bob Segar and UFO. But when the make up came off the first time and Ace and Peter not being in the band anymore was when I fell out of love with that band.
Ace was the soul of KISS.
If you haven't seen it there is a UA-cam vid of Paul Stanley on Steve Jones' radio show. I was surprised at how nice and genuine he comes over and his knowledge of UK music is amazing.
My exact list… I do like Anthrax John Bush era though.
John Bush left a better band when he joined Anthrax. Armored Saint was criminally underrated.
Csn I join you on this walk? This atmosphere looks amazing.
Accept and UDO were and still my all time favorites. They kick them all in the @@@
It's been said before, but I just can't get over your way of saying "I don't like them" instead of "They suck, and if you like them, you suck, too". That something that should be self-evident feels exceptional enough to point out is saying something about the way our social interactions went downhill, indeed.
Anyway, well done!

I also can't get into Anthrax for some reason. I tried some of their albums and the only one I kinda like is Spreading the Disease.
Agreed. Fistful of Metal is the closest one to good as far as I'm concerned. Spreading the Disease isn't too horrible, but after that it's over.
I have tried them so many times but it just doesn't click for me. Don't think it ever will at this point
Spreading the Disease is my preferred album as well. After that I lost interest.

I felt exactly the same way, but Joey delivers a great, mature vocal performance on 'Worship Music'.
..Attack of the killer b's is my favorite..i could give their other albums away..😅 (but i still won't..)
Bush sucked …one of the reasons Armoured Saint never made it big….horrible…the playfulness off Anthrax was why they were successful

Ignition is a fantastic raw punk album
I second on Ignition, overall I like it better than Smash. But also their debut album, on which they sound a bit more like T.S.O.L.
Bad Religion on the other hand. 😑😴
I've heard a lot of their early stuff but just couldn't get into it. I recognise that their a talented band but it just does nothing for me

Anthrax are terrible with Joey Belladonna singing, but they ruled with John Bush.
Ehhh, that's my opinion too!

I love all eras of Metallica, hearing the song Ain't my bitch when load was released was what got me into Metallica.

I have been digging in to the Rob Dukes era and I am enjoying that WWWWAAAAAYYYYYYY more then what I have previously heard from them.
@ I tend not to listen to any other exodus because his voice is fucking awful. Baloff stuff is bearable- just!
