What a mind-blowing experience it was for this then 19 year old hearing Eruption for the first time in 1979. Besides being a virtuoso, Its just so much fun watching him play. He always had a big smile on his face and seemed to be having such a blast up on stage. What a huge loss to the music world when he passed last year. RIP Eddie. Us VH fans will keep your legend alive!
An enjoyable review of an Eddie Van Halen gem. Glad that you both liked his epic performance. He was a true guitar virtuoso...and a heck of a piano player and backup vocalist to boot. He had human frailties OFF the stage/studio - he was human as we all are, but NOTHING could slow down his fingers and still haven't heard a better electric guitarist to this day. Man, could Eddie make a guitar sing and moan and make organ music. He was the best. RIP Eddie.

Rock n Roll lost a lot of musicians, but EVH was Absolutely missed by millions!! He invented so much with tyhe guitar, things youve never heard! And if you notice he clises his eyes through much of it and tgat contagious smile will be missed 💯 forever!! RIP Eddie😇❤️🔥🎸
You guys were asking when Eddie's parents knew he was a prodigy... Eddie took classical piano lessons as a kid. He ended up winning recitals he was so good. In fact he learned to play the great classical pieces BY EAR. Ed sat with his piano teacher one time and was supposed to turn the pages of the sheet music for his teacher while the teacher was playing. When Ed failed to turn the page at the right time, his teacher got angry - then realized Ed didn't know how to read the notes because he had taught himself to play all the classical pieces he knew by ear! That's how much of a prodigy he was. Later, he taught himself to play guitar and applied that same amazing musical sense. Having been a great pianist from an early age, and a natursl, he applied that pianist's approach to guitar.
There was Jimi Hendrix and then Heaven's Gate opened up and presented to the World.... Edward Van Halen. He rendered every single Rock and Roll guitarist moot with one album, "Van Halen".
Yes Eddie van halen is a true legend in a time of new thinking he brought a sound a mind set that define an era most of the wicked guitar sounds and techniques done today leads back to him and his influence on all the young guitar player wannabes out there where stunned by what he did he a true legend still to this day showing a lil lol

Imagine hearing what he's doing but at arena level volume! There's no way to describe it,really. He was just pure magic. But what made Eddie so special was when you watch him play he's always smiling. He made playing guitar look fun, like any great rock guitarist should. I can for sure tell you this; A million years will pass and in that time there will NEVER be another like him. I guess God wanted to start a band and got the best guitar player he could find.
now days many people do this, but back in the 80's and 90's nobody had seen this, it floored everyone, and the people that do it now learned it from Eddie, RIP to the legend

R.I.P Eddie Van Halen ❤ A star, a legend 💖
What a mind-blowing experience it was for this then 19 year old hearing Eruption for the first time in 1979. Besides being a virtuoso, Its just so much fun watching him play. He always had a big smile on his face and seemed to be having such a blast up on stage. What a huge loss to the music world when he passed last year. RIP Eddie. Us VH fans will keep your legend alive!
Eddie was a Rockstar plain and simple. His attitude is pure Rockstar
Seeing Eddie play live was incredible. Great show! Lol... how many fingers were burnt holding our lighters up.
FOCUS- HOCUS POCUS LIVE '73 Jan Ackerman, one of the best guitar players from that time..
How can anyone be that good at ANYTHING?
The G.O.A.T and watching this brings a smile to my face and then tears cause he is gone to soon. It's amazing to see your reactions as well.
RIP Eddie.
Miss that smile so much!! Lucky me, I seen them twice, 82' and 84' He was BEYOND his time with sounds that were just Amazing!!
Awesome reaction !!! E.V.H. An Institution and Rock Guitar God !!! (R.I.P.)

1 word..... greatness. he made that guitar sing.
This concert is August 27th 1986 at the New Haven Coliseum in Connecticut! I was at this concert it was freaking amazing! Eddie was so awesome!
I saw the previous tour before this video. It was the 1984 tour,it was their last tour with David Lee Roth and I was 16. I am blessed to have witnessed him perform his alchemy live.
I love watching peoples reactions to this solo, seeing the jaws drop and the look on peoples faces of "no f*** way!! what!?!? how??" lol
A guitar solo that mesmerizes you for thirteen minutes. He was a god. And his brother on the drums was always in sync with him. RIP EVH!
It's also amazing knowing that the guitar he's playing he built out of parts!!
now days many people do this, but back in the 80's and 90's nobody had seen this, it floored everyone, and the people that do it now learned it from Eddie, RIP to the legend
Eruption is the lead in to the song You Really Got Me on their debut album back in 1978 which is a cover of the original by the band The Kinks. In case you didn't know Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen is on the drums.. Peace
That!!! Is why he will be remembered as the Guitar God that he truly was!!! Joe from New Hampshire... RIP Eddie...
