I agree with what you said mostly, blerd, but I should point out: this Ultimate team, especially its first few members, was likely designed to evoke the original Avengers' team of the sixties, and that team was WHite, because nearly all teams were all or mostly white back then. In fact, the original sixties avengers were the whitest team ever, because at least the Ultimates has that jelly bean sized smidge of color.
Yeah...and that's part of the reason they weren't particularly popular or relatable for non-yt readers.

I'm down for a different roster especially if the stories are different. One thing about mainstream 616 America is that they always hyped her up but I feel she never delivered. Hopefully that changes in this world

Great video and commentary. America being in this was a pleasant surprise and interesting considering she was part of Ewings Ultimates, so there’s at least some precedent. Now I’m curious about the whereabouts of Blue Marvel

I think that a lot of people miss your intentions when you mention how it bothers you about how “vanilla”super hero teams are in general. Many people refuse to understand that there are many other people groups that exist and that it enhances the story telling experience if different cultures and perspectives are showcased. That’s one of the reasons why Star Trek is so interesting to a lot of people. People are so narrow minded and they don’t even realize it. Perfect example: when people mention “America “ , they only think about people in the United States. Most people don’t consider that the people in South America are all Americans too…. So is Captain America REALLY representing America?…Interesting question …Anyway, this narrow minded thinking is what you get when you live in a bubble and don’t consider anyone else’s existence but your own and I commend you for always mentioning this .

As soon as i deduced the incoming "save America" wordplay, I thought abt your review lmfaooo. But as much as America is very much welcome to the overwhelmingly white roster of the Ultimates, I feel we should recognize that while she’s not drawn explicitly asian, Janet is very much still not white. Yeah it’s not a lot but at least the team was not 100% white.
Excited to see more black members tho, I hope Monica is the main Captain Marvel of this universe. Tho I would not be opposed to a grown Kamala in the main mantle. That or taking Reed's place in a potential UF4 as Ms Fantastic, since he is Doom

If the cover of a new team lacks a character of color. I won't care to even bother checking to see if the story is great. Im 30 years deep in comics and have a basement full of great stories. Im looking for better teams.

People who seem to be okay with lack of representation in comics are often people who see themselves represented in comics as a whole, I observe! The point isn’t forced diversity, but in a world or mutants and mutates and vampires and gods and demons and aliens, “the Vanillas” singular membership of white and mostly male characters excludes most of the world and the avengers roster is sooooooo deep but we kept getting the same characters, tell some new stories, elevate some new characters, show a hero team that represents the world we actually live in! Blue marvel, Shang chi, white tiger, spectrum, victor Mancha, Amadeus Cho… cycle in some diverse voices into the team who are established and powerhouses of their own. Fans of color wanna see themselves saving the world too! It’s not hard!!!
You're missing the point. Nobody's angry about America Chavez because she has dark skin. They're angry Ernie is seeing this purely through a racial lens. There is literally no racist controversy for this comic.
And before you even start I'm a black kid whose favorite characters are the Punisher & Hulk. I don't care that they don't share my ethnicity, i care because they're well-written characters.
I just look to Ernie’s name “Blerd without fear” …”BLack nERD without fear” his content you should expect a black nerds’ opinion about shit, so racial commentary was built into the channel, and he’s probably. Just tired of the White (male) default of a brand new universe and expressing those Black Nerd opinions… some people may be comfortable with Ernie not addressing race, but the perspective of a “Black man” is part of the reason I subscribed in the first place… and his take isn’t wrong, the cast is very vanilla! And the avengers have a deep backlog with diverse characters to choose from so let’s use them instead of the same lily white group we always get… those characters can be as well written as hulk or punisher if given the same care.

I’m really loving how we are moving in real time with The Ultimate Universe. It adds to the sense of urgency in 2026. Loving the Ultimates and Spider-Man titles the most.

It's odd how that would apply if the universe she's in diverged. Which strand of the split timeline keeps the real her if that aspect stayed intact?

The Maker (an evil Reed Richards of the previous Ultimate Universe) did Cosmic shenanigans to grow a new Ultimate Universe from the main Marvel continuity (616) plus time travel to make history form the way he wanted it to.

Ernie I love you videos man but this whole character of color ain't it brother. As a Hispanic/Latino man I'm not looking for characters that match my skin color to connect with them cuz i know I won't find that many of them. I connect with the stories and the characters overall regardless of skin color. Represntation is great and all but I'm more interested in what Tony and Reed Richards are planning to do against The Maker.

I connect with stories about characters regardless of color too. But as a Dominican woman who felt something spark when she watched Luz Noceda in action for the first time, I dunno man. I think sometimes that little bit of extra rep can mean something special to others. It’s not always just about what we just feel ourselves.
Why is representation so important to so many? It's a fictional world, why not BECOME good representation in the REAL world. I honestly just don't understand it...
