  • Let's talk about the equipment needed to build your inflatable raft with trolling motor, using a Intex Excursion 4. In the first episode, I cover the trolling motor battery, contrasting between two Interstate battery, namely the 12 volt wet battery and 12 volt AGM battery. Finally, I will comment on the accessories for charging AGM battery and/or wet battery, and protecting your battery.

Thanks for your sharing, the story of wet battery incident is a little bit scary :(

Good job, how long does the Agm battery last while you are out in the lake?

This is a seemingly simple question, but it is actually pretty loaded one :) The answer is dependent on the 1) load, 2) wind conditions, 3) water conditions, 4) power draw from your trolling motor (i.e., how hard and how long you work your motor). Let me organize these points and put them in my next video which talks about trolling motors.

Hi there, do you know if the intex excursion 5 needs both a deep cycle marine battery and a starting battery if I'm out on a lake all day and i'll only turn the motor on occasionally to move around? 🙂

There is no quick answer for this. It all depends on the motor you are using and how much power it draws each hour. With my battery, i could run a 55lb thrust trolling motor on my intex 4 for a few hours on the water (turns on when I need to navigate to different spots). Also, the excursion boat does not track water as effectively so the motor needs to work harder compared to other boats.

@@JChanTV_youtubeHi, do you know if it’s sufficient to spend the whole day on a lake (if we don’t move a lot and when we do we use the paddles as much as possible) with only 1 Interstate 24DC AGM 35Ah?

Great video! I’m new to this and I read that I should get a circuit breaker. Is that true?

I believe the MinnKota box you have has it built in. Wondering if it's necessary to get it

It would be nice to have a breaker, I dont think mine has it. The box is mainly to keep things nicely tucked in

I have heard that powering a fish finder on the same power source that powers a trolling motor will cause interference. Have you experienced any interference on your fish finder while running the motor on the same battery?

Thats a great question! I did not get interference on my unit. My guess is that as long as they are placed far away from each other, it should be fine. Good luck on your setup.
