  • I paid $58,900 for my 1LT Stingray i August 2019 and took delivery on July 2, 2020.
It just past 50,000 miles, so I thought I should make a video reflecting on how it's holding up and whether I made the right decision choosing the base model.

I have a 2021 LT1...and I LOVE IT! Its so much power I can't even imagine having any more! Also, I took a 2 hour road trip to visit my parents...30 mpg! Unbelievable.

I love when you post. I watched your 30000 miles video too, glad it's still running hard. I plan on keeping mine. I have a 2023, and I LOVE it. Beautiful car. Very exotic...

Yes absolutely the right decision was made in the first place, by far.
If a 1LT C8 Corvette is not good enough for anyone then NOTHING ever will be.
From what I can see the 2LT & 3LT package was just not worth the extra, neither is the Z51 package. Others with more finances at hand &/or more money than sense may disagree with that. Fine.
But upon resale the extra cost is proportionally rarely ever recouped. For sure not later on.
Looking on 'Car Gurus USA' right now, I see out of 2,519 results for 2020 to 2023 C8's the very cheapest is $66,944. Not a great deal difference in price for 2LT or even 3LT over that of a 1LT trim C8 at 0k sort of mileage.
To me the C8 phenomena, which is what it is, in its base model form, not the Z06, Eray and so on, is all about VFM for yes a Supercar.
(Even though in its particular genre each likely will be VFM, BUT they wont be shall we say have the VFM VFM Supercar that a base C8 gives).
That bone heads produce umpteen YT videos posing that particular question, are they never sure?
They aught to take a look at all the other predictable repetitive TY videos also posing the 'Supercar' status of a base C8 Corvette and look through the comments section for pointers.
Similar to these worthless, '5 things I hate about my C8' YT types.
ENDLESS amount of those nothingness YT videos they churn out.
Moaning on about how it isn't good enough for them. They do not deserve one in the first place.
Sell it then!!!, and do not churn out a "Why I sold my C8" YT video either. The same predictable media attention seeking claptrap, part of a common predetermined sequence just TOO MANY C8 Corvette owners go down the route of and feel the need to tell us about it.
They aught to never have brought it and just sell it, don't tell us about it, and sod off and go get a 5.0 Coyote engine Mustang instead, a great car for what it is. The latest looks fab. I would never knock the base V8 Mustang.
Go get one of them, try that out as a plaything, '5 things I hate about the C8 Corvette' types. They just do not appreciate things enough.
    -----------------
Even with a 50,000 mile mileage I can't see an undamaged base C8 going for less than $50k, maybe not even for another 3 years or so.
Sounds like the above car has been put to good use, it's performance enjoyed for mile after mile. Not some extension of a plaything to reflect the sense of high 'value' someone places, (misplaces!) upon themselves. How it is for many of these well healed SCHMUCK flashy all mouth & trousers C8 Corvette YT pundits. Established ones.
Many of those that do this are missing the POINT.
That it is NOT about THEM! but rather it is about the car.
Putting the vehicle itself before them, they just cannot do it, not within them.
Some tarting the vehicle up with $8,000 or so aftermarket wheels, one eight the cost of it, THEN they feel better do they, do they? Maybe not as much as they would like.
Then what? more expensive stuff added until they later move on to a C8 Z06 and likely never feel satisfied with that.
What a way to live their lives. Wanting satisfaction but hardly obtaining it when obtained.
Wheels are bloody wheels, usually round that tyres are put on. If the wheels are not good enough for them then best not buy it in the first place. IF the base C8 Corvette in 1LT trim is not good enough for someone I say best not get one at all, because they would be missing out on what it is fundamentally about.
    VFM.
A VFM Supercar with fantastic performance and looks all in the reach of yes, the 'Common Man' were they to put the effort in to obtaining one.
That surely is the American Dream is it not?
The American Dream Supercar is how I see it.
Proof positive that they are living that, off their own back & hard effort.
I say it is best kept as close to that ethos/notion as possible, the VFM part. Then someone should feel they are getting something much more than what the car is actually worth.
Which as we see in the resale values does not actually seem to diminish much, year after year. Unless the higher trim versions are selected.
    ------------------------
I would dearly like to clock up even 50 miles in a 1LT C8 Corvette let alone a thousand times that.
I doubt I ever will, never even seen one in the flesh. One of the disadvantages of not living in the USA I suppose.
Just seeing one would be such a thrill, an event. Just as initially the performance car enthusiasts clamoured to go see the C8 at its initial promotion events.
So well managed. GM really got that right.
Whipping up so much enthusiasm, the C8 Corvette being such a phenomena, yes it is a phenomena, especially with the base C8 being just the start of it all. Just 2 models on the road for the general public with 3 more yet to come.
The C8 Z06 also in its way of mainly extra performance has BLOWN people away.
It could have been more inexpensive, as it IS expensive, but of cause GM knew many of the Greedy Dealers, (the ones that actually are) would price gouge and take advantage of enthusiasts, as many sadly have. Because of cause even at its 1LZ trim price the C8 Z06 is still VFM for what it is.
Again if the lowest trim is not good enough will it ever really satisfy?
Yes maybe their ego & sense as I say of self worth. But again they would be missing the point.
Yes ok they may well have the finances to afford a higher spec C8 Z06, but really! a 1LZ would not be good enough for them? They DESERVE a 3LZ trim C8 Corvette that much?
Such little humility they can muster then. Placing the car ITSELF before them seems they just cannot do it. Does it have to be all about THEM all through their life?
Anyway, Yes ok someone may feel they have something better with a C8 Z06 than a base C8 Corvette, and yes they would have, in many many ways. Given the choice were both cars being given as a gift, very few people would decline a C8 Z06.
But to me paying out of my own pocket, even with a spare cash flow of $200k to my name I just would find it very very hard to go buy a C8 Z06 even at no dealer mark up. Certainly not with it. It would be a struggle.
Sooner settling for a 1LT trim C8 and just not feeling good about things if it was later PX'd for a C8 Z06.
Strangely I would feel I have conducted an act of betrayal. This car means a lot to a lot of people, that as I have never even seen one and likely never will.
    You lucky lucky people.
This is how I see things, would not deem to say so were it not.
Having not gone out of my way to upset anyone, though I would say if it has, then maybe best for them in the long run... that it has.
Please C8 owners just be bloody grateful that GM/Chevrolet have crafted such a great great vehicle.
Something very special that you have been lucky enough to have obtained.
I am sure many happy enough C8 owners are.
    They 'have' got the point.
There is of cause no fantastic crime in getting higher spec trimmed versions of the C8 Corvette or be lucky enough to get hold of a C8 Z06 in its many trims, just I really do consider as said throughout this message that they are just not getting it right.

I’m about a month away from my Z06 being built. My C6 and C7 were both base cars, and I told myself be patient this time and get a Z. It was a mistake, should’ve got a base C8 and enjoyed it for a few years. I didn’t know base was going to be this good. I’m still lucky to get a Z pretty early though. Ty for your video.

Not a mistake. The proportions on the c8 are way off. The z06 fixes that problem and looks so much better. Not to mention it’s obviously a superior setup, will sound incredible, etc

Awesome video. I bought a 1LT which is dubbed the “poverty Vette”. My salesman and I agreed that the smart people buy a 1LT because it’s all the same performance with a lot of features for a huge savings over a trim level that includes a lot of items most people won’t use. It don’t make sense to load up a toy that’s used for a few hours on a nice weekend. Save the options for your daily driver.

    • @rockcityfilms
      @rockcityfilms  9 місяців тому +1

It is my daily driver but it has all the options I need. I really don't need a television camera in the rear view mirror or a lift for the front end.

The day I put in the order my salesman and I were laughing as we went down the list of options and what they cost, there was not a single option that we both thought was necessary.

Interesting point about the front clearance on the base model w/o Z51. How do you find the braking?

    • @rockcityfilms
      @rockcityfilms  9 місяців тому +1

The only issue with the brakes is that If you have to apply full pressure, the car behind you is likely to run into you because you can stop faster than he can.

    • @dreadheadhtx
      @dreadheadhtx 7 місяців тому +1

Have 1lt and the braking is really really good. I would say its very Supercarish. U Can go 100 plus and braking is still almost instant. Very high quality compared to anything i have driven. The c8 gets alot if hate but I dont see the next gen being as cheap for the quality the C8 are now.
