    On a serious note, I found this video very compelling. It may well be my favorite of all your driving videos.
    I enjoyed seeing the street scenes and the buildings, storefronts, and pedestrians. And I liked the interaction and exchanges between your party and the locals.
    I’ve always appreciated the videos in which you talk about the various neighborhoods of Manta. They are both informative and entertaining. But in this video, you don’t just talk about them; instead, you take us there.
    Thanks for the trip. Oh, and just one more thing. During your video, I notice that no one was gunned down on the streets. Somehow you actually survived. Imagine that. Who would have thought?
    This snarky line above is not for you but rather for all the expats (and self-appointed experts who haven’t even set foot outside the States) who contend that crime prevents people from going on an outing once in a while and enjoying a good way of life.

    I felt like I was with you - this was great. You captured the chaos perfectly. It can be a little intimidating or overwhelming if it is your first trip to Manta. I've been to the Mercado Central and found everything we needed within 2 blocks. Ya'll are a hoot. First time I've ever seen firemen's axes in a parade, but it works :) As always, thank you for sharing. Edited to add that I am always surprised about them plugging everything in to show it works - first time I saw it was at the MegaKywi. I'm assuming there are no returns.

    By now, one should be fluent! You would enjoy interacting so much more with the locals. Once you do understand what they are saying, you could relax and enjoy the "flow" of everyday life there and not stumble along trying to mix Spanish and English. The opportunity to become immersed in the culture is all around you. I have been subscribed to and enjoying your videos since you moved to Ecuador, and they are entertaining to watch. Thanks for another good one.

    • @BatcaveManta
      @BatcaveManta 9 днів тому

      I’ve been here for two and a half years, fully immersed in the culture, language, and experience.
      When I arrived, I knew no Spanish beyond buenos días and ¿dónde está el baño?.
      I’ve often said that if I could recommend one thing to anyone considering moving to a foreign country, it would be to learn as much of the language as possible before you get there.
      Recently, I had a breakthrough and feel like I’m significantly closer to being conversationally fluent than ever before.
      But it’s not easy or quick, and anyone who speaks Spanish will hear how rough my Spanish still is in the video.

      I don't know for sure about Yellowfin but my wife Alexis said that tuna at the fish market is about $4 a pound
      George and I bought a bunch Tiburón Azul, blue shark, meat for about 8lbs for $4. $0.50/lb
      After being seasoned and grilled it tasted great. 😁

    I can't believe how little you paid for all those meals. $16.50??? It has been a bit since I was last in Ecuador & I forgot just how reasonable things are. Around here (Missouri is pretty reasonable) breakfast for one is between $10 - $18, plus $3 or more for juice and min. $2 for plain coffee. Fancy coffees can run $10...
