I’ve always thought of an essential report as just that: i.e. has it got the essentials like four wheels and an engine. If you want to know how they actually perform - that’s extra.
It may not be as much fun but ordinary cars as far less likely to have been thrashed within an inch of their lives and probably more profitable overall. Love the channel btw
Bottom end rebuild. New crank. Send it back it's £4-6k bill. Never buy a n55 without testing it. Sold my m135i 25k miles and new owner blew it at top speed and revs on track on 3rd session 😅 dynod at 420/660nm
They brought back timing chains to replace belts but they seem even less reliable, with wear on the guides and stretching of links being all too common a fault.
Buying an M135i is brave. Buying it on an essential report is extra brave. £621 loss is a great result given the situation, good job you brought it so cheap in the first place. Stick to private on the performance. This video was stressful. It can only get better for you from here!
Only half decent auction I've found is Aston barclay tbh, go in person, road to ruin bidding on line, I virtually ignore the reports. Bought a car all green on the report from brighouse, fully assured, absolutely no 3rd gear, total stripped, no come back, we only test em in first gear, says bca, bought loads from brighouse and not got the 15 miles back.
I had this on a M Sport Chain guide dropped in the sump blocked pick-up causing oil starvation and had spun a rod bearing ended in a full rebuild, nightmare so I know how you feel...
I feel your pain. I have lost all faith in BMW this year. I have had a 330e (b48) go bang and a Mini N47. Both at 50k miles, full history. I still have the Mini here and it’s mint. great video i guess it happens at times but again very honest all credit there
I love the honesty of this channel a good place to buy a car from me thinks well worth a subscription those recent services you probably found might have revealed the pending issues and so weren’t included in the description 🤷🏻♂️Great honest video wish you well getting to you 100k 👍🏻😊
Drove by the showroom today...Had a day off,sun was out so thought I'd take a drive up from Devon..I wish I'd stopped properly and called in but I know how busy you guy's are so got a sandwich from the co-op next door and drove back..👍
But what sandwich did you get? 🤔
Still enjoyed this video - a good lesson for all about the assured reports at auction!
Only 6 boy racer owners. 1 service record. Wouldn't touch it. Paper service records are easy to make up.
You missed out "asian" after the 6,.....
Shame about the engine problem, but the car looks amazing though. Deffo would love to own a m sport BMW. Have a good Friday Joe and team.
Joe had similar problem few years ago with a vauxhall drove 50 yards from auction in limp mode it was lovely condition got it home every part I checked was brand new someone had changed everything so I put it back through next week lost £350.
It's amazing that rain sensor isn't standard really. Having said that my 12 year old SLK has one and it's rubbish compared with the ones I had on Renaults going back to 2007.
Japanese cars had it in the 90s 😊
to be fair, this was an unwise buy but i respect your honesty and you were damn lucky with the price you got to sell it on!!!fiar
Just purchased a BMW myself from a dealer and lots of things need doing to it I knew I would have to spend money on it but sometimes it's more than we want to 😂
You did well to move it on with a relatively small loss.....and no advertising.
Hi Joe glad you got out of that quite lightly. Did the same as you coming out BCA Bridgwater last week in a BMW I5. Wonder how many people floor it on that road lol
The heating is a BMW thing, been the same for decades, there is a rotary scroll in the middle, so the centre vents are independent of the climate control, warm/cold from them, regardless of the climate, it's a great system. They removed it in 2019...
I've only bought one car at auction a blue swift sport zc32 and whilst I had confidence the engine would be ok the brakes were fried and had to be totally replaced. The car is still going and doing fine but it was my first and last Auction experience i likened the experience to gambling it's all risk and luck of which I prefer to avoid.
I had a 335i and the main area of concern buying these are the injectors and turbos....... I found out what limp mode was 😢
Car auctions like BCA, Aston Barclays etc are like going to the bookies
house always wins and you might get your money back and feel happy you did 😂😂😂
I love your videos and honesty 👍
I’ve always thought of an essential report as just that: i.e. has it got the essentials like four wheels and an engine. If you want to know how they actually perform - that’s extra.
Might do well to avoid Land Rover products Joe; they have the potential to make RS6 repairs seem reasonable.
dont worry joe theres always a stick in the mud lol great content.
It may not be as much fun but ordinary cars as far less likely to have been thrashed within an inch of their lives and probably more profitable overall. Love the channel btw
A Tudor watch giveaway?
You sir have true class
Love this guys honesty. Great channel
Bottom end rebuild. New crank. Send it back it's £4-6k bill. Never buy a n55 without testing it. Sold my m135i 25k miles and new owner blew it at top speed and revs on track on 3rd session 😅 dynod at 420/660nm
Just drop the engine oil sump and fit new big end shells , jobs a good en.
Used Shiftingmetal20 this morning.Was looking at buying a 2007 ST 225.Turned out to be a Cat C.Saved me a 3hr trip.Thanks.
@vehiclescore saves the day again!

Happened to me from bca, I purchased a 63 plate 135 and the rod bearings were rattling. Essential check was clean.
Having owned 3 BMW's (wife wanted them, but I didn't), one thing I learned is what the letters B M W stand for: Bring My Wallet
Trying to find someone to help with a bottom end rebuild. I won’t be buying another BMW product. A shame as they are good cars but not after 7/8 years of age. Glad you got out relatively unscathed. Enjoy your candour and the channel. Subbed. 😊
My brother is a recovery truck driver. He tells me the two manufacturers cars he recovers most frequently are
1) Range Rover
2 BMW
Ironically he also says he recovers more BMW GS's than any other motorbike.
I should add he has nil interest in cars, other than that needed to do his job.
Have 330e 87k no issues, shadow edition
What happened to yours?
did you stick with BMW's recommended service plan or do it properly with annual oil & filter changes or per 10k miles?
Some BMWs are incredibly reliable others are not. All about what engine you have.
@@rickp2293 2 cylinders failed - massive blow by. More gases from the oil filler than the exhaust. New engine required. Just a brilliant car but flawed in as much as the first engine start can be at 50mph 10 minutes into your journey. No one will rebore anymore (well on this engine) so new one required. Don’t Google b48 engine issues - it’s scary. Glad yours is all good. As I say they are great cars. This one may have been mistreated by previous owner. Luckily it happened at 4 months so it was returned and exchanged. If I owned one I think I’d drop the oil every 5k minimum. It’s not just the 330e application the b48 seems to have an issue up to 2021 build when it changed to g48 iirc?
I'm glad it worked out for you as best it could 👍
