- Premiering at BlizzCon 2009, this teaser trailer revealed to the world a first look at some of the environments of World of Warcraft's third expansion, Cataclysm, as well as the havoc Deathwing wrought upon Azeroth. Also announced in this video are some of the original features planned during Cataclysm's development.

They dared to really change the world drastically.
They need to do something similar again.
It was so freaking incredible to re-explore the old world and see "WoW 2.0" when you went into the cata zones.
Loved that expansion.

I remember the hype for this expansion, oh my god!
I think this was the most underrated expansion that Blizz released.. Worgens were the most fun race to level and Hyjal was a really nice zone as well.
UnlimitedChannel Worgen and Demon Hunters has my all time favorite start zones

Yeah man i remember coming to Hyjal the first time in Cataclysm, when suddenly Ragnaros popped up right in your face. Decent addon ngl.
In terms of quests (and Uldum like THAT PLACE IS AWESOMEEE) and somewhat most of the revamp (Except for Auberdine, I will never forgive Blizz for that) I liked this expansion. It was the one that got me to raid, got me my first max level character, and showed me more of the game than just questing.
Even though people hate Cataclysm, I thank it.

I get goosebumps every time I hear the music from the Gilneas zone. I love the Gilnean storyline, the zone, the worgen. I am definitely a Gilnean at heart!

cata has been by far the most unique of the expention it rly felt more like a big event that rly got you thinkin ""what is going here?'' one day your doing your thing and the next day the world is braking and on fire and deathing 1 shots you when you see him fly amazing feels
Many people underestimate how good the total old world revamp was. Yeah the Deathwing fight was a let down, but I loved the dailies and also the world revamp I remember first watching this live and my eyes nearly fell out my head when they showed every part of azeroth being basically destroyed. Also when they showed the Graymane wall coming down I was so so happy.
The launch was great, and so was Rise of the Zandalari and Rage of the Firelands, there is negativity towards the end (Hour of Twilight) and the Dragon Soul raid, so people forget how great the expansion was
The lore was great too... a pity

The biggest problem was the difficulty got spired downward. Although the launch was ok for difficulty. But then patches came and it was too easy.
The Troll dungeons want a word with you,.
Koscius again, that was Hour of Twilight fault too, only the last patch fault... the lauch? Zandalari? Firelands? no problem with the difficulty of these, they are balanced
This reveal cinematic still gives me chills to this day, just a shame that cataclysm kinda flopped, but blizz sure knew how to advertise back in the day!
I am still angry about Auberdine being destroyed...

cataclysm had the best start of any expansion.
Destroyer120296 yeah I remember everyone waiting at the flight master ready to get Azeroth flying before servers DC it also took ages the queue to log on, it was the most busiest I’ve seen tbh, lich king didn’t seem that busy compared to cata start and pandaria wasn’t really busy either, however I heard BC start was the busiest ever, with 1000s waiting at the dark portal
The idea of this expansion was great, the execution.. not so much.
It actually had some really good parts and the best soundtrack out of all the xpacks.

I dont care much what people say, this was my favorite expansion.
I was sooo hyped for cata, but when I hit 85 and after a month or so I realized that it was pretty bad.
Mountain Dew really? You must've played very bad, because 4.0.3. and 4.1. were amazing.
Cata was one of my favourites
+Mountain Dew pretty bad? how? the raids had nice variety, lots of daily quests and it has the coolest gear.

I've played WoW since vanilla, and overall Cataclysm was my favorite expansion. The intro raids/dungeons and the new zones were great. I still enjoy questing 1-60 and 80-85 to this day, though Outland and Northrend put me off from lvling any new chars. Goblins and Worgen are among the most awesome races still, even without updates. The only bad thing really was Dragon Soul, but even there I have many fond memories. Archaeology was awesome, getting the Qiraji mount from Tol'vir solves took a lot of time, and luck :P Wish they would add new things like that. The Archaeology system they introduced in MoP is really boring, turning in boxes for rep isn't exciting at all.
WoW is still a great game, I just hope they don't keep the current garrison system in the next expansion, 'cause it feels too mandatory and makes the world feel very empty and useless. Trying to make everyone feel special is also a bad idea, 'cause if everyone is a "commander" and "the world's LAST hope", it has the opposite effect.
Aleksa Petrovic MoP was alright. I especially enjoyed the PvP in that expansion, it was decently balanced, etc. Didn't care much for Timeless Isle and SoO but the Throne of Thunder trailer still gives me goose bumps :) I don't raid anymore though, I don't like what LFR has done to raid progression. I believe that in order to gear up for the current raid content you should have to journey through the previous tiers. These days the content becomes obsolete as soon as a new patch rolls out, forcing us to play through the same raids 2-4 times a week (per character). So I think the longevity of the PvE aspect of the game has been compromised this way.

I remember how in Wotlk all Tbc and Vanilla fans proclaimed Wotlk for the worst possible expansion to happen. In the end, it all depends on when you started playing...

@@basillah7650 you dont remember 3.2 - 3.4 then, 3.2 was gaaaaaaarbage, 3.3 i believed introduced the pop in dungeons which was the beginning of the end, and 3.4 was filler nonsense much like 2.2 was to TBC. from 3.0 to 3.1 people revered wrath
Cataclysm wasn't terrible, it wasn't the best, but it was decent.

Unpopular opinion: Cata is the best expansion narrowly beating WotLK
@@connor3198 i think WotLk came too early. Imagine what how much different game would have been if it happened after cataclysm. And it would have made some sense. Imagine it, Deathwing rises, causes world wide devastation. This could have been the triggering moment that awoken Lich King from his ice, starting its campaign against living after deathwing had caused lots of death and chaos all across the world. That would have been true crisis. Then again, death knight would have been delayed for a while and perhaps replaced with something else.
If you like dungeons then legion is by far the best.
I remember watching this and being so hyped for worgen, to this day my main is a worgen. Can't wait for the model updates now!

What is your opinion about the newer models if you have seen them?
Started out great; ended in shambles.
Actually it started out in shambles which resulted in 3m+ sub losses and ended great with 4.3 patch resulting in 2m+ sub gains and new features such as raid finder and Transmog.

The fact that this was 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than the Dragonflight announcement is so sad. They completely lost the "thing" they had to make us happy/hype. You used to wait for this and never get dissaponted. I'm just sad they don't care about these things anymore.
Soon to be somewhat relevant again, would be interesting if they bring path of the titans and tie it with glyphs this times
This was the first Blizzcon I got to witness, via the live stream. I can still remember how hyped I was when they revealed this :)
While playing Cata i met one of my best friends ever. I still miss those old days :(

They didn't lol. Cataclysm was INSANELY hyped prior to its launch, like probably the most hyped expansion of all time. The amount of build up and excitement for the expansion drop was insane.
That part at the end from 4:14 onwards never fails to give me the chills.

I think it got a bad rap because the dungeons/raids were way overtuned. I had 3 friends who left over it and never came back :(.
raid finder, cross-realm trash and destruction of social aspect of the game. Enjoy rushing through dungeons with 4 autistic kids who don't say a word.
I still remember getting obliterated when Deathwing carpet-bombed my zone, it was ... GLORIOUS! That xpac was decent, too.
It was promising...
Then they scrapped the potential raid in the Abyssal Maw.
That was the first step to its downfall.
I wish I could give multiple +1's for this.
Thiji Higuri People would probably have cried about an underwater raid anyway, even though you hardly notice the water in Vashj'ir. Dragon Soul, however, was a big blow to the quality of the expansion.
Because people can't git gud and learn how to fight underwater.
But Abbysal Maw scrapping allowed full resources on Firelands. And it was spectacular!
From the first time I saw the dragon at 3:46, I've wanted to see it in game. Possibly as a mount.
I *still* want to see it, 11 years later.

Cataclysm is always my favorite expansion. I wish Blizzard used full potential of cata expansion. They could make a raid in Uldum like Ulduar (one of the best raids ever made). I wish patch 4.2 focused completely on elementals. They could make 4 raids (each would represent other elemental, Firelands, Abyssal Maw, Throne of the Four Winds and raid in Deepholm representing earth elemental). I'd like to see also better version of Dragon Soul and ofc much better Deathwing fight. They could make a water zone with daily quests like Molten Front.
I wish Blizzard hadn't nerfed heroics dungs. They were difficult pre nerf but had interesting and fun fights.

I agree. They really didn't need to redo the old world, although I'm glad they finally filled in the missing blank spots in between the zones. WoW from vanilla to WotLK was working just fine. They didn't need to "fix" it.
Cata blessed us with playable Goblins, so I say it was a huge success.
quick question do u need to have all the expansions to be able to play cataclysm and do u need the basic world of warcraft before u can download the expansions?

I am watching this for the first time in 2020 and we gotta admit that Blizzard did an incredible amount of work on that expac and it had tons of content. Unlike WOD and BFA...

Best expansion ever!. I remember when i first turned 85. It was so nice experience, Now when i turned 90 i was like , Not so very big deal... I hope i wont lose my gaming experience

I am new to World of Warcraft. I created a character on the free trial and leveled it to 20, which means I can't gain any more xp, right?
Additionally, when this free trial expires, what happens? If I start a membership, which I plan to do, will I be in a whole new area if I don't have the cataclysm expansion?
Finally, should I play the other expansions before playing this one? Will the story line be out of order if I start with cataclysm?

I love Cataclysm It's the best expansion ever It was so much fun I really miss It and and any hate or comments against Cataclysm will be removed don't argue with me.

Such a long trailer for such a short expansion.
Likely because each new expansion both adds and removes some content (at least it's true of the last 2 expansions, which might have gone a bit overboard in this regard). And when something you like/enjoy/love gets removed, the sentiment is much stronger than the fixes that are being made at the same time.
2022 and still waiting for that Path of the Titans they promised...
The worgens, dungeons and especially the maps were the best things about the expansion 😍🐺

I think Cata was pretty much good, Wotlk was the best. Only did not like how the ruined the community in zones like The Barrens. The bosses had unique tactics, etc., Cata was good. WoD, on the other hand, is the worst expansion.

Cataclysm is a master piece, fantastic races. Everything is great except deathwing was uninteresting. Paladin tauren? Awesome!
I liked Cata. I mean, from my "expert studies" of earlier expacs, it wasn't all that bad. Could've been a lot worse by them adding LFR in the beginning instead of the end.

Then after they nerfed everything again it just got so mindlessly esay. I was a casual like everyone else but at the end of expansion I jumped from LFR que dragonblight to full clear HC without breaking a sweat =/

true but it in the end the storyline wrapped up there with wyrmrest temple being the focal point of his demise and the pending demise of azeroth, called dragonblight for a reason. (he probably didnt want to see his peers)

You are already playing the "changed" world of cataclysm, it is already in the game. whether if you bought the expansion or not.
To progress any longer then from lvl 20, and to continue playing after your 10 days (or how long you trial is) Then you need to buy full subscription.
And you need to buy the other expansions, first.
World of Warcraft: 1-60
Burning Crusade: 60-70
Wrath of the Lich King: 70-80
Cataclysm: 80-85

Prior to its cancellation, Paths of the Titans was a system of character progression which was planned to be introduced in Cataclysm that players would have been able to take once they have reached level 85
This expansion marked the beginning of the downfall of WoW for me. The removal of the old talent system and dungeon finders killing the social aspect of the game did it for me I think.
