I had a neighbor stealing gas, so I put a bunch of screws in a scrap of plywood then connected every other screw to positive and the others to negative and plunged it in to the wall.. took a few nights before I got results..
finally heard one heck of a hollering scream. I went out a few minutes later found a gas can and hose on the ground. next morning I seen the neighbor walking with a crutch trying real hard not to put his foot down..
and I never had gas stolen outa my vehicles again.

Great video. I've made and tested many different shapes and sizes and I've settled on the smallest rod to use is 3/8" with EACH spike being 3.5" long and that will stand up to and penatrate a 2.5 ton military truck tire with no problem. Anything smaller, and they could bend unless you're using hardened steel, but after welding them together, you've lost that hardness to some degree. Also, shorter spike length will sink into softer ground when run over and may not penatrate the tire completely.
Another thing I tested was using tubing cut at an angle and then slide the sharpened tubing over a solid round spike. Now when the tire rolls over the caltrop, the solid spike supports the thinner tubing, and is strong enough to penatrate the tire along with the tubing, and the caltrop then falls out or is blown out by air pressure and the tubing stays in the tire and it goes flat FAST.
You can even use tubing on the type of caltrop you have here, just tape them onto the spike and it will work fine. It doesn't have to be laying flat like the police type that stretch across the road.
Just a few ideas I've tested and come up with and thought I'd share. Keep up the great work.

Largely Chicago politicians have been running Illinois most of the time and burying it. I'm looking to move but my current work pays me well for my toys and preps. I had a local criminal jump my locked 6' wood gate. Police did nothing and HOA said I was not allowed to build an 8' gate/fence.
So I rebuilt the 6' gate and to make it stronger, there was a top strip of wood with 40 screws through it to keep all the pickets secure.
I saw blood and some skin on the gate 2 days later, and just 2 days after that, I saw the local criminal walking down the street with bandaged hands.
This didn't stop him and his family of brothers, cousins and friends as they have been breaking into homes and cars for years.
Police do nothing because their lives matter I guess.
But this is Texas... so a motion alarm and my shotgun aren't considered a trap... Stand your ground and the Castle law are a blessing.

Roofing tar and roofing nails on any flat surface. The tar will let the nails stay on as you move the board and still let them break away without dragging the board with the foot leaving it in place to catch more. The nails have a nice large head for extra surface area for the tar to hold them on and the tar will help the board last longer when deployed.
When storing remember to have paired boards so you can store them spikes in and include a way to strap them together to reduce accident chances. Caltrops should be in a hard sided box to prevent them from ripping/puncturing a cloth or cardboard box. Nothing like getting a foot full of spikes because they spilled in the spot you store them in.
Fishing hooks and line also make a good area control method as you can string them up in weaker spots and it really slows how fast any group wants to move in any light. Small hard to see and still gives you clear fire lanes.

I grew up in Guatemala, and most houses have some sort of perimeter wall. A lot of times people will affix broken glass bottles (beer, pepsi, etc) to the top of the block walls with concrete. Just lay a layer of concrete down and stick the broken bottles in, so that people can't climb over your walls. They also put v-shaped nails along the top of walls too. Razor wire and barbed wire too, but the broken bottles is cheap and can't be cut like wire. A lot of times they will stick the broken bottles on window sills.

These become much more effect placed in an area where you have channeled your attacker, using say downed tree tops, drunkards path fencing, paths created through thick groves of trees or briar bushes. Don't forget creek beds passing near your retreat, fence lines or ridges overlooking your compound. Keep in mind that smaller diameter nails are more effective at puncturing tough shoe soles and screws are much sharper and very tough to pull out.
Another idea is post holes with sharpened rebar spikes, either pointing straight up from the bottom (drill a hole through a 2x6 board and place spike though hole) or drive sharp end first, diagonally from the top edge of the hole (about 12" out) into the wall of the hole. Three triangulated spikes (3/8" dia.) can make it nearly impossible to pull a leg out without help. Such devices may not create a devastating injury but certainly crumble the morale of intruders.
Like you mentioned though these are preps best delayed until an event is underway. Nevertheless you should have a post hole drill and spikes prepared ahead of SHTF, so that you can quickly make a vulnerable area impassable.
Another thought concerning a perimeter fence is the placing of cheap "gaucho" barbed wire (the sharpest I've found) in loops just inside your perimeter fence. Anyone jumping the fence will be snarled and slowed making a much better target, if they dare jump at all. This fence should be affixed to the ground along sharpened spikes.

These are called “jackrocks” in the West Virginia coal fields. Striking miners would litter the roads leading into the mines with them to keep strike breakers from mining. They would also light road flares and throw them into loaded coal train cars which would usually end with the train being a puddle of molten metal. Coal burns HOT.

In Korea the ROK troops had strips with chain welded to them. The base was plate steel and the spikes were sharpened sections of rebar 6"-10" in length. They were usually painted yellow and seen along the sides of bridges. When needed a couple ROK troops left their positions, grabbed the chains, and pulled them from the sides across the roadway. While they did that a couple others would roll I-beam hedgehogs in place behind them. The strips would slow wheeled vehicles and the hedgehogs tracked.

Seen these before interesting idea used in small unit tactics. Perhaps to funnel op forces into. A possible tedious (fabrication) and a bit impractical counter measure would be to fit insoles made out of correction soft armor that is shank and ice pick resistant. Not sure exactly how effective but much better than a rubber sole I'd guess. May need larger and or wider boot to hold something like that. A mountaineering boot with built in rocker prob the most ideal for something to make caltrop resistant. Since they are so incredibly stiff to begin with. Or custom multi hinged ar500 plates cut to foot shape and maybe 1/8" to minimize shoe size alterations. As is said impractical but for those who are bored. 😀

This is good for when you have a home to defend when SHTF and there’s no civilization.
However, the problem most people are waking up to as of this post is not having a home any more due to not being able to pay the mortgage. It ain’t nameless faceless raiders that come to kick you out of your home when that happens, it’s the police.
A SHTF situation that I think we need to prep for is getting kicked out of our homes before society collapses, because that’s what is happening these days.
People need to know how to camp, how to bushcraft, how to forage, etc. If you lose your job, you can’t get a new one, and it’s looking like you’re gonna get evicted from your own home, you need a backup plan. If that doesn’t involve moving in with someone else, then you need to know how to survive in your local wild lands.
I’m telling you, long before society collapses, the banks will kick as many people out of their houses as they can what lost their jobs to no fault of their own.

Where I grew up there were these mud pits. Kids would always go ride their dirt bikes back there. This older gentlemen hated the noise. So he made a bunch of these, hoping to pop their tires, and hid them in the mud (along with nails and rebar). What he didn’t account for was a boy falling off the back of his older brother’s four wheeler and sustaining massive injury to his popliteal and brachial arteries. He’d lost over two liters of blood in mere minutes. He’d have died no matter what before any ambulance could get there or anyone could get to them then drive the 16 minutes it took the get to the hospital. His brother’s friend had to ride a mile just to get back to their house to tell an adult. His brother put a belt around his upper arm under his shoulder and was applying pressure to the area but they didn’t really have the means or knowledge to attend to his popliteal artery, let alone properly treat the brachial artery trauma. Not to mention he sustained a shit ton of other damage. This dumbass even had rebar sticking up which almost killed another person a few weeks before, but they didn’t realize it had been intentionally been put there. He’d fallen off his bike and damn dear landed right on it. Scratched his side all to hell but he got lucky.
These things are no joke. Stepping or falling in them is no joke. So I’m glad you advise people not to go make them willynily and include the fact that they’re illegal in many places. If one of these were to get misplaced out in a field or yard or around children in the home..it could be bad. I remember the newspaper headlining it like “Man Plays A Deadly Game Of Jacks And Pays With His Freedom & Eastern Shore 8 Year Old’s Life”. These things have always scared me. Hell, even putting upright nails in the dirt can be bad for someone who steps or falls on them. But these things...yikes.

Those things work best in high grass or covered by leaves. An alternative would be to use bamboo half burried in the ground or glass shards sticking out. Together with tripping wires they can be even more deadly (even without someone injuring his foot might fall into more spikes).
On the other hand putting nail boards out keeping them in plain sight is a different story. They can be still very effective at keeping people from breaking through your glass doors etc.

Other options you can do are the more or less easy vietnam/ indochina options.
Also interesting might be the option of a piece of wood, pipe, a nail and a shotgun, pistol or rifle shell.
Different kinds of barbed wired can be used in a lot of different ways (i have at least half a dozen, maybe even a full out of my head)
What might be an other idea is plant stuff so you can chanell aproches.
On a larger scale (and what might be a option for you ) is to make a imprivised bridge on a choke point where you made a big hole in the street, a bridge "got lost" or whatever. This way you can cut whole regions off, especiall in the us, from land vehicles and you know how it is. I won`t go into details but there are a lot of options on how this can be done and turn out.
I don`t know if i posted this under one of your videos a while ago but this is also a nice, energy preserving option.:
    ua-cam.com/video/HsOmSTIIswI/v-deo.html
    ua-cam.com/video/_dMLzAxX-oc/v-deo.html
It is in german but i think you can figure it out. If you need a translation let me know.
There are many different options which work on the same principles.
All what knowledge and stuff does is giving you options.
