Talk about gear, play riffs on voice chat and get to see my latest uploads before everybody else 😀
And that is why I'm practicing that song every day untill i get it perfect.
same lol! i don't have a lot of free time due to college, but i play the main riff everyday to build stamina for the dowpicking
svaka čast
I find master of puppets main riff way harder, I cant play it more than 3 times in a row without getting tired, but blackened's main riff is easier in my opinion, both are hard btw
@@lautaro.k6164 I don't know, I have more experience with MAP so it isn't that hard for me. But I see why it would be harder for some people.
@@caio_augusto The dedication is the most important thing, keep it up bro!
i find dyers eve way harder because of the 320 gallops between alot of the power chord changes
Never had that problem, i love gallops so i do them all the time xd
The gallops are just straight 2s, James said it in a video
@@SpywareVA that's not what he was referring to, and the main riff isn't a "gallop"
sick profile picture brooo
Hardest part of Dyers Eve for me to nail are those 3-2-0 pull offs too when you’re going at the speed of the song especially that one break when he does them between the 7-5-3 power chord descent on the A those jumps are hard to nail perfectly
Now play this at concert speed, which is faster, AND sing. James is a beast!
He is so underrated, best rhytm guitarist ever!!!
Nobody can play that fast accurate and sing. Thats why MetallicA is the biggest band ever. 7 continents. #1 record sales as per nielson. #1 ticket sales. 40 years. World domination. Collectively worth over a billion.
@@GODHATESADOPTION I agree, his guitar playing while singing is pitch perfect!
*While standing in front of 80,000 people
@@cqwickedwake7651 since when was he underrated, i think people know this 😂😂
The best part about it is that the bass line is basically the exact same thing. Which goes to show how much of a badass and underrated bassist Jason Newstead really was.
Jason wrote the riff
and he was still cut out in the mix in the entire album sadly
@@jasminericenic when I downloaded And Justice For All, I found it with enhanced bass. I can't listen to the original mix anymore. If Jason's parts were audible, the entire album would've been a million times better.
O without a doubt Jason is one of the best and one of my favorites. They did him dirty and treated him like dog shit and it's sad
But he used a pick, so that drops him down a few pegs on the “underrated bassist’s” list.
This sounds spot on its so good.
This is by far one of the hardest songs to play air guitar too. I have to keep practicing my skill and get my tone on par.
🤣🤣the hardest to play air guitar 🎸 too🤔🤣I guess 🤷♂️🤣I can air guitar 🎸 play it pretty good 👍 it's the tone I'm having problems with 🤣🤣🇵🇷🎸✌👊🤘
The main riff isnt hard its all those notes in between that are fucking with me
Air guitar = corny
@@Sir_Catnip Joke = Over your head
@@StoneTea I know that, silly buns..... But I've seen an actual air guitar competition before, it was cornier than cornbread....lol
yall forgot jason newstead wrote this riff and it shows
No one forgets. The people that tall about it are at the same level as newstead's bass on the album
Who’s that
Who is Jason Newstead? Are you talking about Jason Newsted?
@@starkillaog8118 metallica's bassist... (ex bassist)
you forgot future gohan got his ass kicked in the manga and it shows
jokes aside, chill the fuck out. You can't watch Stranger Things, listen to a few of Metallica's most famous songs and then start talking to the rest of us like we're forgetting something you weren't even around for.
Blackened is really difficult to downpick the whole way through.
But for me playing Battery cleanly is the hardest. Specially with those tempo breaks after the chorus
A bar of 5/4 and 7/8 is not a tempo break
@@kjl3080 I don't know man, it just feels weird and a bit prog to me hahaha
That’s strange, I’m totally different. I can Down pick Blackened pretty well on normal day and I can run through battery pretty easily. Granted those weird time sigs are tough. I can’t quite get the riff under the solo.
@@krafgeetar4013 Metallica frequently puts some hidden gems underneath the solos. Such amazing riffs that most people listening won't even pay much attention or any at all. But it certainly adds to the music as a whole, even if subconsciously
I find blackened much harder
Dyers Eve: hold my beer.
I think the bridge riff (the one with all the gallops) in Frayed Ends is much harder than this. In fact I think Frayed Ends is the most difficult/confusing Metallica song I've ever tried to learn
Are you sure it’s called Frayed ends of sanity because that one was way easier for me than Blackened
Frayed Ends has way too many unecessary sections ngl.
I think it's between that and Dyer's EVe for hardest riff
The strings coming across the body of the guitar look invisible, at first glance i thought you were only playing a 3 string guitar lol
For real me too
for this song you need more so all good 😅
Frayed Ends Of Sanity fights for this spot too
@@76isthenumberofeverything76 no
What about dyers eve
Agreed!!! There is that one part, that to this day, 20 years later, I still can't play. If you know, you know.
The riff before the first verse in Fight Fire with Fire is the hardest imo. It feels so wonky and unnatural to play
I’ve played it for thirty years and am still finding out little things about it. James’ nuances in riffs are fun to learn over time.
Jason wrote this riff
@@kayakchrispy but the nuances may belong to the playing
Ive Always found this song to be so hard and at least i can rest easily knowing others do aswell
It’s so rad bc Newstead wrote the main riff. Along with misery and one other I can’t remember now.
Damn that tone is perfect
Guitars without neck pickup look just so badass
the picking hand is so smooth and clean
Much respect to the mighty James Hetfield.
Your picking hand is crazy good bro! Looks like you’re barely even trying on your down picks 💪 I still think Battery and Puppets is harder than Blackened but that’s just me!
If it makes you feel any better, Master of Puppets wasn't recorded at full speed, it was recorded slowed down and at a (SLIGHTLY) lower tuning so that they could get the right sound post production
Puppets is easy imo. Battery is seemingly harder than blackened due to its constant alternate-downpicking pattern but I can play it way easier than blackened for some reason
@@KinkyNothing Blackened has much more difficult time signatures to get down than Battery that change constantly
@@dakotawheeler4020 the only really tricky part of blackened timing wise (not physically because the main riff and those turnover DUH-D-D-DU-DUH-DUH parts can be a pain at high speed) would I’d say be the part right after the solo when lars is doing those weird changes, if you know the song it’s pretty easy to not pay attention to time changes you kinda just gotta break it into the riffs that repeat and know when to play them I don’t think knowing the time changes is that important for guitar playing
@@Daniel-sx6vcTime signatures aren't important for playing any music if all you want to do is follow what others have done. But if you want to be an actual musician, and actually feel the music you're playing, then yeah, it's important. Especially when listening to or playing things that are truly difficult. Metallica doesn't have any really difficult songs to learn. A bar of 7 here or 5 there just to keep things interesting. Go listen to some of Danny Carey's stranger parts. Learning those without knowing how to count unusual time signatures will be very difficult.
ETA: I didn't mean to say that Metallica has no songs that are difficult to learn in general. Just that their occasional odd time signatures don't really add to the difficulty.
One of my favorite songs in my favorite album 🙂
nice playing and... awesome xplorer! i love them so much for some reason i don't know why
Metallica wise, I'd say disposable heroes. It wears out my wrist so bad.
Loosen your wrist up
Not a hard song but then until you loosen wrist and alternate sweep picking are part of your repertoire then many Metallica songs are hard. Once you get it you'll be a metal god though. Lol
Justice was such a highly anticipated album, and it more than delivered. I remember well. It was the soundtrack to that school year and the following legendary summer. You play Backened perfectly. Cheers.
*Coughs in That Was Just Your Life*
Been playing this riff everyday for 8 years, still murders my right wrist halfway thru the song
Relax
Battery is one I’ve struggled with forever
The 2nd part of that riff always trips me up
Bro makin it look so easy 😭
I would get carpal tunnel from downpicking like that
In my opinion the hardest metallica riff to get perfect is the Damage Inc. Bridge riff
I agree
Yes i agree, even on drums needs a lot of stamina.
Absolutely. The Damage Inc bridge riff has been giving me grief for weeks.
that riff is just mostly gallops tho
@@tehlion7430 I said "Bridge Riff". The one before the solo. Youre right that the Main riff is mostly gallops, but the bridge is so much better and harder to perfect
*laughs in Dyers Eve
My favorite song of theirs. And I fuckin LOVE Between the Buried and Me's cover of it as well, probably my favorite of all the Metallica covers out there. But BFMV Creeping Death is up there too
Hardest Met song, maybe so....what is definite is the awesomeness of that Sylosis shirt you're wearing.
This isn’t so hard playing along with a backing track, but playing this cleanly with a band is super tough.
Just make the band your backing track. Other band members have easy job on blackened. Except bass but that is not supposed to be heard anyways ;).
What kind of pedals do you use? Sounds great!
GORGEOUS BUDDY
🤠🤘🏻ROCK AND ROOOOOLLLLL🤠🤘🏻
For you what makes it hard, I’ve never tried it myself, nor do i possess have your talents skill. Im just curious as to know what you personally find difficult
To me their hardest riffs are the ones with extremely fast power chord changes. Their single note riffs are easy.
Love seeing younger guys latch on to this. This is great
Blackened is a good song glad you chose to play it
I play that upside down backwards, literally, all up strokes. I also play just about every 80’s Metallica riff & I have to disagree on this being the hardest to play. Rock on! 🎸🎛🎛
My man has no pickups
😆 only had a bridge pickup
What brand and model is that guitar? I'm looking for one just like that! @@JamieSlays
For me, Disposable Heroes and That was just your life. Believe it or not, the Death Magnetic album has some pretty intricate riffs.
Blackened is the end winter it will send throwing all you see into obscurity
Can't be as hard as Dyers Evs
dyers eve riff is easier because there's no hammering, it's 2-2-2... Check on YT James explains it in a meet and greed
Agreed!!! That last bar fucks with me!!
One of the best starts to an album ever, especially to the already amazing AJFA
When I read your video title I thought “it better be blackened.” And it was 👊🏼
yes, 100%, also one of my favourite riffs aswell
Blackened and Fight Fire with Fire are tied for me.
This is like a mild veil of Maya song
Thank you Jason for this banger my favorite song
metallica riffs are so underrated
I’m sad James didn’t write it but I’m happy he let Jason use this riff in their song
Perfect guitar for this song
Nice playing and nice tone!
I love the Blackened riff. I always remember my dad blasting it in the car when. I was younger. Also it perfectly embodies the "garage band" feel they were going for on this album
Blackened is such an underrated song.
I was playing this song on CD at 14 years old over and over again. I had no problem banging out all instruments cause this song just fuckin blisters!!
This is Jason Newsteds riff. He made it in bass but James turned it into a guitar riff
You know I ain't even think about it like that...
For whatever reason, i always get Wizard of Oz flying witches vibes from this riff
Thats spot on bro!
One of my favorites
Definitely not an easy riff to pull off!
Bonus points for the Sylosis shirt 👀
That’s a meaty tone!
Everyone is swooning over the playing but over looking the tone like damnnnn that sound is smooth
Thanksssss
That sound is unreal 🤘🏼🤘🏼
That guitar is gorgeous
Favourite metallica song 🔥🤘
Blackened is my fave Metallica song. Back when I used to exercise it was always a great start to my cardio session.
Nailed it! Most people fudge the tail of the intro and butcher the first change. Perfect!
FIRE... TO BEGIN WHIPPING DANCE OF THE DEEEAD!
It sure does go fucking hard 🔥
Im gonna nominate Fight Fire With Fire as a very close second
OMG...THIS GUITAR IS Beautyfull
That album always pushed me haha that and that damn verse for Fight Fire with Fire, anyone who’s every tried to play that knows what the fuck I’m talking about Christ James is a madman.
Oh shit that loop is pristine
Thankssss
I'd agree with that.. learned to play tons of Metallica when I was still playing, this was one that I never managed to get up to album speed. The timing throws you off so easily.
Picking hand picking hand picking hand on point
Amazing job
Thank you Jason
Bro I don't even play guitar just the drums but I like watching your videos
Nailed it
That loop is damn near perfect
FLAWLESS VICTORY, well done sir!
Absolutely the hardest...👌
This is a nightmare thing to play live. I am just not so good, I cannot get this right mate, for 15 years. A bifff salutes to everyone who cracked this up.
It’s not even the beginning string skip that’s gets me. It’s that transition to the lower frets and then coming back back.
Damn good ass set up the clean is amazing plus the chug as some one that spent 3GS on my sound I’m so jealous of your tone understanding
Awesome!
Dude that sounds amazing! That guitar thooooughhhhh😍
I finnnaly got it on my bass after 6 years of self teaching. I also learned how to do harmonics after 7 years on the guitar. I'm still young and just entertaining my prime
Sick guitar💯🔥
The riff at 3:50 in sweet amber is pretty fkn heavy
Awesome
I learned it way back in the day with the wrong tabs. Unlearning it to play it the correct way was really difficult.
That’s amazing
the tail of this riff always gets me, i just can't do it
I learned Blackened when I was a 16 year old drummer. Obviously, I became a guitarist, too. Now, I teach a bunch of instruments at a music school.
