Seiko really do know how to make gorgeous dials. I partially love the look of the Frozen Margarita. I would have liked to see sapphire on it though. Especially if they're calling it a Limited Edition.
I bought this exact watch last year for my wife and it's really beautiful. The dial is amazing. She usually wears it on the mesh, while I usually wear it (when I borrow it 😉) on the leather strap.
I have the SRPE43J (Blue version of this). Great watch. A shame they didn’t include sapphire glass, but the face of the watch is well worth the money. Not my daily wear but nice to switch up for going out. You won’t find many watches with a face like this, build quality, movement and finishing like this one. Some people have been hating on seiko recently, but I think they are killing it 🤷♂️
Reminds me of the Friends episode when Ross bought a shirt and all the crew were saying, nice pink shirt, to which Ross replied, it's not pink, it's salmon! I do have a pair of nice salmon shorts myself!
@@jim2111 That doesn’t make any sense. Someone who is interested in this watch would never go for neither Tissot nor CW, since they don’t offer dials/styles like these. Seiko is still the dial king.
It's reasons like these why I don't consider getting a seiko. Some of them look amazing but I feel like I'd be paying for the brand name and not the value
@@retardinho5048 This is absolutely true. I think it's fine to complain about these things and I do agree: Seiko would be a much better value proposition with just some small but needed improvements. However, I also don't think you can judge these things just based on the specifications of a watch. Seiko's greatest feature has always been the vastness of it's selection, and some of the truly unique and stylish designs within. Lots of Seiko watches are dull, boring and poor value, but some are positively gorgeous and exciting and different. And *that* is why we buy them and love them. Like it or not, for some of us the way a watch looks and how it's design speaks to us is a really, really important - if not the *most* important - feature of a watch. I'd even wager it's more important for many people than they themselves know.
@@fredfour0 You’re also paying for the designs/dials/case shape and uniqueness, that no other brand can offer. A Tissot might offer you more, if we’re strictly looking at the specs. But that’s the only thing you get, bland and boring specs, without an inch of originality and color. If you’re just looking for a mechanical watch to get the job done, then of course it’s the better solution. But if you like something more special and interesting, then Tissot is definitely out of question. Plus a boxed sapphire would cost around 100$ extra. Long Island watch is offering one if people fancy that.
Fully agree with your observation Jody that the dial would be a lot better with-out the date complication/window. It just keeps distracting me, one of those annoying little things and spoils the enjoyment of the rest of the dial. A salmon dial is a bit of a grail dial for me. the right shade of salmon too but that date window would make this a very, very occassion wear. So I would give this Seiko a miss as I could not justify the investment for a watch that will "bug" me. Glad to see both straps provided are quick release as I would imagine your strap changing tools are going to be the last thing you want to remember to sling into your getaway bag. Although I think I would prefer straps with a curved end. That gap between the watch case and strap end would be another niggle. 😊
I have the Manhattan Blue (Old Clock) version of this watch, even at 7.5" wrist size, this thing oozes perfection. Seiko does indeed make most beautiful dials (in each category, I might add)
Great review... How about doing a special on watches for children and teens. I have 2 teenage daughters, so would like to see some options for Christmas presents
I just indulged myself with one of these. Getting it was a bit of a trial, (DHL misdelivered it) but now that I have it I have to say I really love it and it's a beautiful watch. I also prefer it on the leather strap! It is pretty pricey for a Seiko Presage, but I guess you are paying for the presentation box and the extra watch band, however I would have preferred a less fancy box and getting a sapphire crystal instead. All in all a good purchase that I am happy with and I am looking forward to getting it into the rotation. Thanks as always for you review and your recommendations. You haven't steered me wrong yet.
This one is lovely! I particularly like the look of the frozen margarita variant. As a girl with pretty small wrists I think it's got a great aesthetic and I'd love to have one.
No issues with the size or the colour but Milanese bracelet and date window are no nos for me thanks very much. Excellent vid as ever... keep up the good work 👏
My wife and daughter love this watch !! I love the dial, but please in an other color for me... 😜😇👍🏻🙏🏻 have a great day and many thanks for sharing! Great job!
My fav in this series is the red dialled Negroni which I gifted myself last year; unlike the other models the red looks more fume unless you look closely for the guillioce pattern. For around usd 310 I got it for, it's good, would hv preferred if they gave a steel mesh bracelet instead of the unimpressive leather strap. I am even ok with the hardlex and 50m as it's a dressy watch.
Hopefully you have since picked yourself up a mesh from Ali or eBay? I felt the same way with my Mojito’s patent leather, so now it’s usually on mesh or light brown suede
It's a lovely watch, I did try on one but looked a bit small on my 8" wrist, but it may be a surprise Christmas present for my wife, as she was very impressed by it. Maybe a pink date wheel might be a good compromise to no date.
This "38mm isn't a men's size" thing just needs to be stopped, buried and forgotten. For one, anyone who owns vintage watches will know 38mm would be an XL size watch a few decades back, so much that it's hard to even find watches that size from the 50's and 60's. And for two, to hell with peoples' narrow gendered ideas on what folks can wear, why the heck do we even need a division like this for watches? I've got a 1956 men's stainless steel everyday Eterna. It's 34mm, and I *love* the size. Firstly it's very light and comfortable, I don't have to keep adjusting it, and secondly *it* *looks* *absolutely* *fine.* I've worn it on and off for a few years and absolutely nothing has continued to happen to my gender identity through the whole time. So when I wanted something similar but modern, I just went and bought the SSA785J1, the 33,8mm Blue Moon cocktail time, from Seiko's women's catalogue. It's great! Plus the women's Seikos are pretty often discounted. My SSA785 was 244,50€ at -50%, at a Finnish AD.
100% agree. I too prefer smaller watches. 40mm might work for a dive watch, but it's too big for anything dressy imo (acres of vacant dial). I have a 38mm which is on the edge of too large. I'm currently wearing a 36mm which has convinced me I should be fine with a 34mm. That said, I am tempted by the 36mm Breitling Chronomat, which is marketed at women (top tip watch companies -- do versions that aren't covered in diamonds and you can appeal to both genders). Still, if everyone else is fixated on larger watches we can get bargains on the smaller sizes.
@@leepenney6104 Exactly. And by contrast one of my girlfriends is absolutely adamant on wearing 42+mm watches on her skinny wrists, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

Having said that I think the whole cocktail time =sophistocated concept a little naff and I'm savind for a Longines "Tuxedo", (I think they mean dinnner jacket) as colours make me a bit nervous and coloured watches rarely suit actual formal wear. Even so I think this is a bold, fresh watch with a ton of party wear, summer day potential. Can't see the point of an open case back on a undecorated movement tho....Another great vid mate.

Red Dead 2 is an unbelievable game! I started out on the PONG 😂 so I've seen the evolution of these games from the very beginning. I love these watches, another stunning dial. I would absolutely wear this although I think Seiko''s clinging to Hardlex is ridiculous at this stage
Hi Jody, I bought the one called ‘Old Clock’ sort of dark blue/ black kind of by mistake. Saw it on eBay and put in a cheeky offer which was accepted (never thought they would accept under £300), it arrived in the UK from Hong Kong. Did not even get hammered for tax or vat so quite amazed. I wanted the frozen margarita but that one as it was a Ltd Edition cost considerably more. Been honest I felt so guilty about buying it I was even going to give it away as a present for a 40th Birthday, got lucky and they wanted something else. Not keen on the back strap that was supplied so on your advise bought a mesh on Ali Express. Totally agree the date is unnecessary but that dial in the correct light is something else.
I do think it's pretty, though it's a bit on the smaller side for my wrists. Also, at this price point, I think a sapphire crystal should be an auto-include. Many microbrands provide them even at a lower price point, and I don't see why Seiko can't (or won't).
If i were to guess, seiko is too overly concerned with vulturing its own higher end product line if they put sapphire crystal into their cheaper stuff. They don't see other affordable brands as competition, which is dumb.
Very beautiful watch Jody. I completely agree with you about the date complication, why make such a beautiful dial with the "sacred geometry" concept only to ruin the balance with a date window? I'm not sure if my old eyes are deceiving me but the leather strap for the blue Margarita seems to be a dark blue or possibly black with blue stiching not brown, can you confirm?
I have the “Mojito” version in green, but this dial is definitely one of the few watches where I’d be chuffed to have it in a dozen different colours. This one is probably my next favorite after the green.
I bought one of these when they first came out @ $949 AUD (RRP$999). The movement was way out of balance (Beat error 0.9) & when I went to regulate it...It STOPPED never to start again. So much for Seiko QC! So replaced the movement & exchanged the auto rotor & I've been happy ever since. I add here that for an RRP like that I'd bloody well expect a Sapphire crystal!! Regardless of the cost & the problem, I really love the look & feel of this watch but I wear mine with the supplied Brown leather strap which I have found to be really quite comfortable.
With the colors and size i agree it is unisex ... as a limited edition I think they should have color matched the date wheel too if the must have a date wheel. Honestly I like it better on the milanese.
Jody, I have the Old Clock (blue dial) of the same series and I must say I absolutely love it! It comes on a black/blue leaher strap but I opted for the mesh bracelet, exactly as the one in the video and I have no problems with it, very comfortable, no hair pinching at all. I though it would open up the watch more rather than the dark toned leather and it did, glad I chose the mesh! The size is no trouble at all on my 7-ish inch wrist it wears beautifully. That thing is all dial, looking at it its all presence, no chance of being dwarfed or overlooked. As for the pink-salmon dial... matter of personal preferance I guess. Personally I like it, I like how they made it but I wouldn't get one for myself because it doesnt fit my style, but I can appreciate it non the less.
I always thought the cocktail-time range looked amazing from pictures and videos on youtube but I saw some in a shop yesterday and tbh i wasn't that impressed. Its worth having a look in person if you can before buying one. On the flipside saw some Oris divers and they are absolutely more beautiful in person than they look in pictures.
Beautiful watch and a perfect size. I favour sub 40, so perfect for me. Seiko dials are really very nice and this has a lovely classic look. I'm not a great fan of limited edition anything. Make a watch for everyone and discontinue when people stop buying it.
I really like the idea of a day strap and a night strap. This watch seems awesome, Go To the beach/pool and swim all day than go back to the hotel room and figure out where to go for dinner! Change the look!
Like the watch but not on the mesh. I guess it is a polarizer because you do not wear it everyday and during work, it is clearly for evening and weekends
I've got the mojito cocktail time, the light brown band depending on the light source looks like something I may or may not have passed, that emerald dial and gold/brass indices are something else though, especially in bright sunlight.
*Loathe* because of the dial colour. *_I could struggle through 20-25 minutes of wearing it before succumbing, but if it were an equivalent green, I’d love it._*
I love these. Love the Negroni too. Jody, if you don't want any of these watches just fire them to Shetland and I'll look after them - especially the Negroni. Just a thought, is there a 'sex on the beach' Presage on the way? Off-white dial and a bit of a gritty action.
Haven’t caught the dress watch bug, but an attractive watch regardless. The white date wheel is a bummer… if a date was necessary then would be better with a round opening with no boarder so not to draw the eye away from the captivating dial.
OK The EB Games box was snaffle from the Shopping center as I posted it straight off to Jody. it needed a bit of protection, And I did a trade for the box.. Thanx EB.... I like the addition of quick release straps. Even on the leather. I'm glad you didnt say how much I really paid... Thanks Jody. Looking forward to getting this one back.... Marty
So many dials could benefit from the absence of the date "complication". These presages, and to name a major pet peeve, the gorgeaus Zenith Defy Classic. As for the dial guilloché-ish pattern, I'm convinced they thought of it as the ice floating in cocktalis (hence not the margarita, but frozen margarita), and my guess is they had the dial and constructed the naming narrative from there rather than the other way around.
Seiko really do know how to make gorgeous dials. I partially love the look of the Frozen Margarita. I would have liked to see sapphire on it though. Especially if they're calling it a Limited Edition.

I'd definitely wear on the leather. Still love my Negroni but recently got a Shinki leather strap for it with some stitching to match the dial.
You're spot on, very polarising indeed but I like it, the dial colour is lovely. Shame no sapphire for the price point though.
Love it. Unusual colour but works..
only problem with the date complication. beautiful watch
The dial is beautiful
Looks great! I still hold that the Matcha is the best one they have done though
Oooh, which one is that? Do you know the reference number?
Is Sakura Watches actually reputable?
I’m not concerned with the Salmon dial so much as that 38mm head size. I’m a big man and need a big watch! Great video as always Jody!!!
Those dials 🔥🔥🔥😍
Haven’t caught the dress watch bug, but an attractive watch regardless. The white date wheel is a bummer… if a date was necessary then would be better with a round opening with no boarder so not to draw the eye away from the captivating dial.
Yes, a fellow Red Dead Redemption fan!!! It's soooo good, right? Definitely one of my favorite games along with The Last of Us!
I own one Seiko and I doubt that I’ll buy another one. I’ve got plenty of Seiko movements and they are absolute workhorses.
Girl's watch, and in a very good way
This thing is beautiful and a perfect size.
Nice video! I have the SRPE43J1 (manhattan blue) version and it's very nice, although runs quite fast (1 min per day)!
Marty
And Jody... You MUST play 'The Last of Us' on PS4... its arguably in the Top 10 Games ever released.. And a Moral and Emotional Roller Coaster...
Looking at your video insert of the Margarita version its comes with a dark blue leather strap not brown ??
So many dials could benefit from the absence of the date "complication". These presages, and to name a major pet peeve, the gorgeaus Zenith Defy Classic.
As for the dial guilloché-ish pattern, I'm convinced they thought of it as the ice floating in cocktalis (hence not the margarita, but frozen margarita), and my guess is they had the dial and constructed the naming narrative from there rather than the other way around.
Very cool watch, definitely would have liked if Seiko made this series a non date one, cause that dial should not but cut out.
