    I'd also suggest replacing the bushings with wheel bearings. There are plenty of replacement kits out there for this and the wheel will have less play, less friction in the hub, and will generally last longer.

    • @monkeybarmonkeyman
      @monkeybarmonkeyman Рік тому

      I'm not sure how that could be... as those bearings are not press fits. Hence, rather than the bearings rolling about the inner race of the bearing, most of the time the inner race will be the bushing turning around the axle.

    • @PainterD54
      @PainterD54 2 місяці тому

      @@monkeybarmonkeyman Yes, the replacement roller bearings that replace those old school bushings are "press-fit" in. I just replaced my bushings in my Poulan Pro rider with ball bearing replacements and they rollsomuch better, and won't wear out the shaft like those worthless bushings do, even if you grease them.

    I have a 28 yr old Simplicity mower that belonged to my dad, and I’m learning as I go. Thanks so much for your excellent videos.
    A point for other beginners: the parts diagram for my Simplicity calls them “bearings”, and that confused me. These are not “bearings”, rather “bushings” as you called them.
    Parts diagram cost me 15 minutes of Googling and head scratching until I watched your video, pounded mine out, and compared them to find out they are exactly the same!

    What if the front spindle shafts are worn also? I've seen this happen to several newer lawn tractors. Spindles are made of soft, recycled metal. Also, I think it does very little good to have or install grease fittings in the wheel hubs because most people do not think of (or maybe know how) to use a grease gun.

    Hey Donny, Been watching your videos for quite a few years. I had a tractor come in with tires off the wheel. Once I raised the tractor up the bearings just fell out. I will check to see if any excessive play is present before replacing any. This tractor has lots of miles as your had in the video. Grease goes a very long way. Even dustier conditions need more than normal. Where is your apprentice? I miss the video of you popping questions to him so that I can also guess at what it might be as well.

    For the record, John Deere uses the exact same looking original bushing. However, their replacement is an actual ball bearing set up. With either the ball bearing or the OEM style bushing, ALWAYS inspect the axle for wear as well, or you will be wasting your time and money doing just a bushing change. The replacement axle will cost some bucks, is easy to swap out and at least with my tractor removed all the slop in the wheels. I suspect the slop you saw was really axle wear.
