This is the solution my ‘04 Jetta GLI had been waiting for! The kit cost me only $11, and it only took me about 20 minutes total to do this (I made sure I had the right tools). For years I had been using folded-up paper napkins wedged into the left side of the door to keep it shut. But this didn’t always work. It’s been two months now since I did this fix and it’s still holding great. Works about 95% of the time, only popping open if I hit a pothole or other hard bump in the road. I highly recommend this solution.
It worked! However, I never saw a warning about screwing in too tightly and ended up partly shattering the magnet with the hole in it. I'm just using it anyway, though it does push the whole set-up past the flushness of the other side. So, the other magnet holds on to the top when open. But, honestly, I probably won't be opening it often anymore. Happy to have it off my passenger's knees. Thanks!
Hi: Have the same car and had the same problem. Thank you very much for a really clearly explained and really well shot video. Always nice to see what you are gettin into before you get into it! Yours is the bomb !!! Found the kit online, and It really does install in minutes. This might be the best fastest car repair ever. I was a little skeptical that the magnets would be strong enough, but The pull of the magnets seems plenty strong enough to hold the door shut. I think this just might be a permanent fix.
I just tried this ... the magnet that he installs in min 2:55 is extremely fragile ... the moment you tighten it a little more than needed, you’ll brake it ... only tighten enough so that is not moving around
the glove box on my 2001 jetta doesn't have the two torx screws on each side. i assume this is only on the 2002 or newer VWs as these got slightly different gloveboxes starting that year
Its possible you might be able to make the hole with self tapping screws and a screw driver, but I would recommend using a drill for better results. Doing it by hand might end up being time consuming.
Yes there is , it requires removing the entire glove box and installing a new , but due to the age of the vehicle the parts are difficult to find, and might need to look for a used one.
Man. Its crazy what bad quality materials Volkswagen used for their beetles. Ive had every single part braking or failing and its mindblowing to find out thousands of thousands of other vw beetles user happened rhe same. I have a 2005 beetle and so far all window switches have broken. Driver Door interior handle broke off. Fabric of the door also dettached. The glove box latch and handle also came off. The cup holder also essily dettached. Windshield water pump stopped workin I also have a water leak everything it rains coming from behind the dash panel under windshield on drivers side. Its a pain in the ass.
I really love the "nice" flinging and moving handle...; = only 50% of the work done.....; but you are lucky that you still can lock the handle and that it will stay in position.
There must be someone out there that can come up with a minor access panel 1x3 inces that can access the broken item to do a McGyver on it and fix the problem so you can lock the glove box. Then with a jb plastic weld repair the access panel. ? !
The glove box hatch was to heavy on my mitsubishi eclipse and the magnets are not strong enough to keep the weight of the glove box closed!! I even took everything out and still. Maybe I should buy another repair kit
Yo la quite la despege y le puse unos tornillos con unas rondanas a los ganchos que van por dentro y la bolvi a pegar con silicon automotriz me quedo muy bien

Nice but my problem was the lock fall off. Literally so I have a hole where the look is to be. Any suggestions ?
had the same problem...how do you remove that tape residue from the glove box?
Dollar Tree has a product called LA's Awesome Orange. Then clean with rubbing alcohol or alcohol pads.
Where I can find the magnets and what Sides are they
I put the links down in the description, just click the down arrow next to the video name if you on a phone. You should see 2 links there.
Can you do this without power tools?
Its possible you might be able to make the hole with self tapping screws and a screw driver, but I would recommend using a drill for better results. Doing it by hand might end up being time consuming.
Thanks! But isn't there a way to actually repair the latch and make it work as it was originally?
Yes there is , it requires removing the entire glove box and installing a new , but due to the age of the vehicle the parts are difficult to find, and might need to look for a used one.
Easy process. Thanks
mine is stuck closed, the right side pin won’t pinch in to open, how do i start?
Nicely done
Where can I buy the repair kit
Link is on the description, bottom of the video
Could you please tell me the number of the torx screw driver and number for the tool to make the hole!

Thank you?
I have a question could it be the glovebox lock cylinder that needs to be repaired?
Unfortunately, there is no way to access it, unless you cut it open or heat up the glove box edges, it's all molded together.
The Bravo Connection alright thank you!

@@squawone I no longer have the vehicle but thank you 😊
Quick question for someone who has bought this kit from ebay. Did the repair kit come with the washers?
Yes. The eBay listing clearly shows all of the parts included in the kit.
Will this work on 2002 beetle ??
Not 100% sure, but if the mechanism and glove box is similar, technically it should work.
Anyone have a link to the repair kit?
Links are posted in the drop down menu of the video description, thanks. Several sellers to choose from.
Thanks man!!

Why would you follow a vw jetta tutorial when you have a mitsubishi 🤦♂️
the handle broke off on mine
What is the diameter of the magnet?
jetta clasico 2013?

This guy needs to contact Vw, they’re pissed😂
The whole glove box ? I jus bought the door. Mmmm..
Magnets !!! of course!! fuck. can´t wait to fix mine. thks
For $21. Not bad. But you can get the whole thing for $35. Plus installation.
Where the hell can you find a glovebox for $35 installed. They're 150+
@@jamesschulte5278bro in germany u can get them even for free because they are basically worthless 😂
And where do the stickers go🤔😫😁
The two round black stickers? I stuck mine over the magnets, but they ended up falling off anyway. Not needed.
Bmw no????
Didn't work for me, waste of time and money.
Could you please tell me the number of the screw torx and number for the tool to make the hole.... Thank you....
Would this work on my 1994 Ford F-150?
I might work, its just securing with magnets . Worth a try.
