Such a beautiful song, her early albums were the soundtrack of my teens and early 20s. Joan is one of the greatest songwriters and performers to come out of the UK yet she remains so much less well known than she should be. My one regret is never having seen her live.
Same here. I have listened to Joan from the 1970's and was lucky to see her a few years ago. She was tremendous! Her voice is still as strong as ever in her 70's! What amazed me was how many instruments she can play. It was an awesome concert and she came back for three standing ovations such is Joan's grace and humility❤

I saw her live in Sydney almost 40 years ago. The concert was incredible , her performance live, was as good as, or better than, the studio performance. She was so good she would occasionally speak to the audience in the middle of a song. Just to prove it's not a recording. We had tickets that let us walk right up to the edge of the stage, dead center. Which we did. I still remember how impressed I was with her amazing performance.
If there's a better song than this about a woman in a long-term relationship who meets a new lover, then I want it rounded up and shot! Unutterably brilliant! Joan at her absolute best. I count myself fortunate indeed that I have heard Joan sing this brilliant song live.
Quite the most unprepossessing black woman artist I can think of Along with Tracy Chapman she did love songs no good and to death and that was it. The poor girls Roberta Flack and she was not even that.
You are so lucky indeed, It always reminds me the day I said it with my mouth, after declaring so many times that I will/shall and never will I in any given situation I will ever say that
I was in my twenties when I heard this song for the the first time. It was touching me and it still does after all these years. Thanks Mrs. Armatrading You are the most!
Man! Man! Man! I never ever imagined that anyone would notice the bewitching beauty of Joan Amatrading in her younger days. What a Natural beauty she was. She never wore any make-up. The Smile. The innocence. Her beautiful heart was all over her face. She was never a fancy clothes person. But such earthly beauty one never sees every time. To me you are the Champ on the discussion about Joan Amatrading. What a surprise for me.
I swear I just get to see this beautiful lady with such strong voice, sounds so beautiful. I was born in the 70's and I love to go and search for the best old skool music that reminds me of those wonderful years growing up. She reminds me a lot of Tracey Chapman. they have similar looks, and the voice sounds the same as well. Come on peoples tell me am not lying. Take a good look at them, they are beautiful strong black women.
agree… their voices are really different but also really evoke each other. their skill sets are similar too…both folky & bluesy singer-songwriters who play guitar (and joan keyboards too), are intensely private, are black queer icons, and just legendary musicians
It's sad that so many people have heard of "one hit wonder" Tracy Chapman and yet they haven't heard of Joan Armatrading, one of the greatest female songwriters of all time. 😊
