Feels good seeing old immortals, old collosus. Those units used to feel so threatening and powerful back in the days. Collosus used to demolish any ground armies while immortals were unkillable demons (the true nightmare of Terran mech)
I've gone back to Brood War recently and I really think the thing that's been lost in LotV is how individual Protoss units are supposed to feel really hard to kill. Even one Zealot caught at a rally should kill a couple lings before going down in BW. Three should still close on a siege tank line and bait a couple splash shots before dying. That aspect of how Protoss feels, with the low number of extremely strong individual units seems to have decreased over time, ig with how units clump in SC2 it kinda changes that dynamic a lot too with how efficient splash can be on em
@@bloominboomin8930 Lol. Because 3 Zealots defeat a tank? Toss is supposed to be all about quality over quantity. Ofc any individual unit is stronger than a comparable counter part, but guess what, they are more expensive and fewer in numbers.
@@bloominboomin8930Saying Protoss was OP because zealots were harder to kill is the same as saying Zerg were nerfed because zerglings were easy to kill. You're ignoring the resources needed to make the different units and how much supply it took to field them Example: If it took 3 zerglings to kill one zealot but the zealot cost the same resources and supply as 4 zerglings? The zealot would be underpowered by comparison
May not be top 7 but I think one honorable mention would be MarineKing marine micro against baneling (I’ve forgotten who he played against but I believe it was the first time people were in disbelief that they can micro against banelings). It wasn’t the highest of levels if we compare to today’s standards but he was the pioneer and a gold standard back in the days.
It was a round of 8 match up. There were multiple good games, but the one on Shakuras Plateau is the one everyone remembers. It's also why players started adding more zerglings in ling bane to make it harder to micro against.
Innovation's Helions vs. Life in the 2013 GSL group of death is up there for me. Bomber targeting seeker missiles onto his own Medivacs to pilot them into the middle of enemy death balls was amazing too, I think that was the 2013 MLG Winter Championship.
These were epic. Here are other moments I remember. I remember a game were the ghosts looked like they werecaught out of position, literally surrounded as the main battle finished elsewhere and like 12 of them cloaked all at once and and the game ended right there. I remember a game where a zerg player was retreating with their lings and mutas, got down a ramp a suddenly a baneling bomb goes off and kills a huge chunk of the terrans; somehow in all the commosion it borrowed right on that ramp in plain sight and even playing it back I couldn't see it. I remember a game where the terran fleet was lured halfway across the map by an illusory army and a mining base was gutted in that moment. I remember epic Swarm Host, Brood Lord sieges with Queens and Spines that lasted forever and seemed unbeatable. Sadly I don't know who played in these games or when, I'm not that sort of fan, but I'm sure if it caught my eye maybe someone else may remember these moments too
Hero showing some of the best Immortal+Prism micro of all time, holding against impossible odds, then proceeding to lose a Colosus for free and float 1k/1k is the most Hero thing I've seen this month.
Clems micro is insanely good but he didnt make history with it in the same way they did back then. Clem was/is playing at the same time as Serral, Byun, Raynor, Maru and so on, its way harder to make a history defining micro play these days
Scarlett's bane landmines versus Bomber. Man, that was sick! Also Serral's and Dark's infestors landing huge fungals would be cool to see (e.g., in Serral vs Maru the first time he got the 4-0 finals).
Oh, Has has had some sick micro moments too! It was always a nailbiter to see whether he'll get the cannon/pylon down or not. Mb look for some cheesy games with Bly or Dark too?
Oh god, it's always such a pain 😂 Even worse wih those tiny-ass stairs in some of the campaign missions! But I love SC2 micro too. It's got a different flavor to it. In BW, the players are struggling against the imperfections of the machine - terrible pathing, etc. etc. In SC2, the machine, the engine is smooth, responsive, basically perfect - so it's players pushing against their own boundaries, the limits of human speed and reaction times.
Plays like this happen all the time nowadays. I want to see a play where a Zerg uses Infestors multiple times without losing them, that look rare even for pros, maybe drop Overlords could be used, Burrow and good reaction time and positioning, you always need an escape plan for Infestors. Micro in big battle is huge too, like for Zerg the way you go in with Zergling Banelings, running after clumps of units with move command and attack command while dodging mines while attacking with Hydra/Queen, Micro is everywhere this game it takes a very good eye and experience to see how hard it is to pull these sometime subtle moves. Best way to see Micro and Macro is with FPVODs. Nice compilation video. I actually played MarineKing and let me tell you his infantry control is just so sick, you think you got him and he splits perfectly at the last second, great game sense too. gg
There was this gamea year or two ago where the polish Zerg, Elazer, did some sick roadh drops in a ZvZ to snipe off queens. It severely hampered his opp's production and gained him the upper hand. I wanna say it was the same tournament where Oli became world champ? Or the European one where Clem took the whole thing? Damn, can't remember.
Mvp catching squirtles low stalker and zealot by baiting him into thinking the all in was over in their last game after Squirtle basically held was such a smart move, especially for that time.
My top fav micro moment (unfortunately I can't remember who it was): Archon morphing in the middle of a PvZ battle, Ravagers throw a bunch of corrosive biles on the morphing archon and the protoss player pushes the Archon "egg" forward with his immortals, just enough for the biles to miss. Unique move, pure brilliance, within milliseconds of an intense battle.
These are some of the examples of why I think SC2 is best RTS ever made. Things that some players can do is mind blowing. Micro skill opens another layer of play in the game. Game like Age of Empires 2 in my opinion, is what comes out when SC2 takes a sh*t.
For some reason IPL created so many epic moments in SC history, although it wasn't that long around compared to other leagues. These tournaments somehow imprinted themselves into my mind, similarly to MLG
I don't remmerber which game it was but MMA defeated a late game broadlord zerg army with only marines making a amazing concave (in form of a U) after a great flank
It was quite flashing when I saw the marine splits and the 'first' use of ghosts against brood lords. it was on shakuras plateau....was this both in one game or am i meshing up my memories? I think at some point you showed the match(es), so we good^^
Marine splits was a tug of war style game between kyrix and mkp on shakuras. Not sure about ghosts, maybe a nestea game on shakuras. It's been a while lol
I agree Zerg don't micro as much, but is that Nestea clip really the best you could find? Pick out a protoss player offracing as Zerg instead :p. In general the micro has been better in the last few years than all the time before. I say that as someone who played most in WOL and not much LOTV.
TLO running slow banes into marines and having them enter a nydus to protect them, then unloading them quickly into the marines. ua-cam.com/video/8q7LPjdCA44/v-deo.html Was an awesome play.
"Zerg race isn't much about micro". Are you for real? Have you seen Jaedong's mutalisk split micro? Life's zerglings micro? Serral's 1 zergling sacrifice vs mine micro? Drone morph vs reaper and even mines micro? You can't beat sky toss without several conrtol groups of all casters while toss of the same skill lvl can a move you. The right sentence is "it's rarely when terran micro". JK. The most forgiving and easy race of all three races. And by the way every zerg early stage match is about zerg's outmicroing that's how zerg stays alive otherwise zerg loses.
It's pretty wild what was considered good micro back in the day, any diamond player today is capable of greater feats. Like the DT block, wow, he managed to click the DT around the enemy base every like 5 sec, what a great accomplishment. Hero's immortal micro is worse than mine, like wtf. It's really kind of embarassing to see these moments and the caster's reactions nowadays.
