PiG is the goat for commentary. Whether is doing more family friendly stuff or weirdo dark humour. GM in all three races means he has a much better understanding of the game than most commentators and on top of that he's super engaging and gets the hype going when the action is high.

I love watching both these guys play. Maru makes pros look like a joke... unfortunately, serral makes maru look like he doesn't know what to do. It's seriously impressive how wide that gap is from #1 to #2
I finally figured it out. Because its really hard to play in Korea as an outsider and vice versa, we should start talking in those terms. Maru is the Korean GOAT and Serral is the non-Korean GOAT. As long as Serral doesnt play GSL and Maru doesnt conquers the world, ppl wont agree on *how* to define "GOAT" equally between them.
Maybe Maru is the Korean goat as the country (in Korea) but the Rogue is the Korean goat (as the ethnicity). Rogue has 3 more world championships than Maru (who has only exceled in Korea and has never had any world championship title)
Spoilers: 25:45 Marus third base burning down, while he was microing one marodeur was a huge blunder that made him gg out (though he was probably dead anyway at this point). Game 3 just wow. Serral had vipers out before Maru had finished combat shield and an ultra cavern before Maru even finished 1/1! I dont know when i saw the last time a zerg teching up that fast!
Serral went with Tech over Upgrade because he want to counter the heavy unit from Maru like Tanks/Libs. He also max out early with cheap units so that he can be safe from any early attack from Terran. This is pretty much the "perfect" way to play ZvT as the only possible weakness is a 2-base all-in but Zerg normally scout that out very well.
Im happy to see Serral starting to play non-standard stuff. He's so well known as a macro late game beast that I think him going off book for some games is going to mess up his opponent.
I brought up the usage of ravens in ZvT, because the list incinerator fun scans and the ability to cheat creep makes a raven a better choice, especially on larger maps. I've never played sc2, because I'm too old and too slow at round to be proficient, but I do know strategy and tactics.
Maru is making a very weird habit of not maxing out his army early, instead slowly building up the late tech units, and whats why hes 20-30 army supply down when Serral push. Cure and Clem normally max out early on their army which let them survive longer.

Extractors only cost 25 minerals cause you need to build it with a drone. Drone is 50 50+25=75 mins which is the same cost as assimilator and a refinery
Serral's weakest match up is ZvZ, but it's no means terrible as he is still strong on that front, but if it ever became equal to his ZvP and ZvT that would be pretty much it. Serral would be unstoppable at that point.
You know PiG is the best caster when he adds a savagery warning for the kids at the start of the video (I am pretty sure he guessed the results just from the two playing). Serral vs Maru is the most predictable outcome in the history of the game, Serral always stomps Maru out of existence. And even then, Serral plays such amazing games, that even this obliteration looks exiting and fun. It's like watching a fight between a middle school kid and Mike Tyson, but with Hollywood effects to make it look amazing. At this point anyone that doesn't think that Serral is the GOAT in SC2 is just brain dead, even worse if he thinks it's Maru while Reynor is the only one that can take down Serral at his best. #1 Serral. The indisputable GOAT in the game. #2 Reynor. The GOAT killer. #3 Is irrelevant because they are so far behind the top 2.
i guess the way to counter this is Vikings out early to snipe creeplords and raven to keep him from pushing in the creep deeper? he is taking a positional risk bringing queens and ovs that close to your base
Clem is the only one with good enough skills to play against them, all other Terrans rely too much on their cheats making them lack in skills. But Serral at this level would have still crushed Clem like Reynor did. 100% Serral and Reynor will only lose to each other, no one else is even in the same realm of existence.

Reynor has good chances vs serral though and serral has been beaten to pulp by rogue or dark, i can't remember anymore. ZvZ is by far serral's worst matchup, although ZvZ is known to be somewhat of a cointoss anyway.

The last 45 seconds of this fight is like porn. I jus keep rewinding it over and over bcuz I luuuuuv watching terran get dominated like this and I have literally never seen it so one sided for the zerg like this. At what these guys have accomplished, it should always be about the World Title, or mega prize tournament like Gamers8, where both fails to advance deep. Maru playing like a standard players against all the stuff that Serral throw at him isnt going to work. He need to play a more aggressive and wild style like Gumiho or Cure does.

I think that both Seral and Dark are examples of very good zerg players, so I would absolutly expect them to win some matches but not in the extent that zerg players are doing. It would be intresting to know how common it is that top tier zerg player loses games that goes to late game stages. All games that I can remember ends up in losses for all terran or protos players, and it always ends in this mindnumbingly boring play with endless waves of zergs just grinding everything down in the end, and vipers pulling in the biggest threats and hence grinds down the opponents posibilities to win. Zerg always seem like they outrange everything in endgame with their aoe damage and cc (vipers) so nothing can engage. I get the feeling that it's more a zergs game to lose, than a posibility for other fractions to win. Sorry for the whining, just so fed up with seeing zerg always on top.
It somehow frustrated me watching this. I like Maru and Serral almost evenly, but it was like not even a contest. When both are considered to be the pinnacle of their respective races, the games should be much more evenly matched and exciting to watch. This was just boring to watch, while PiG's great casting was the only saving grace.
This was so one-sided because Maru plays GSL (Korean league). Due to the difference in time between rounds, Koreans have become obsessed with researching their opponents styles and builds (this is why Reynor got curb stomped in the first round of GSL). Serral found a way to use this to his advantage. Knowing Maru would be researching his past games, he purposely used new builds to catch Maru off guard. It was so one-sided because serral was playing 4d chess.
Just because both are the best of their respective races doesn't mean they're automatically equally skilled as players and any deviation from a 50/50 winrate is due to imba.
Lol, if you go by that logic, Zerg took 5/8 places in IEM Katowice, 2 Terranc and 1 Protoss, a much more serious and bigger tournament. As far as biggest tournaments go this year, it’s kinda 50-50 between Zerg and Terran, and Protoss is just shit.

Serral countered Maru, not Terran. Serral generally has an edge over every player anyway, except Clem, who was the first to really counter Serral
