Brian Hopkins Jones was the REAL REAL.
A talented master of slide guitar, blues harmonica, marimba, flute, dulcimer and sitar.
That exotic early blues sound and the out of this world feely psychedelic sound of 1967 is the result of Brian Jone's musical genius.
A one of a kind once in a lifetime cool, hip and beautiful soul.
His exotic sound is what made the Rolling Stones stand out.
I always love downloading those early Ready Steady Go Stones performances because I can see and hear how talented this cool cat was.
    Love, love Brian Jones.

“All of the other bands used to copy The Beatles, now they all copy us”. That says it all. It’s funny they mentioned how they dress. The Stones were the first band to wear street clothes on stage as opposed to wearing matching outfits. Even when someone like Elvis dressed differently his band matched. It wasn’t until after The Stones that rock bands ended that.

Brian was the early leader of the band and a fine musician. He must have found it hard to find his position userped by the sheer talent of the Jagger Richards songwriting team. His overuse of drink and drugs facilitated his tragic decline. A pity because he clearly was a highly bright and talented individual, who like so many others had problems handling fame.

  • @davidbyers7246

The interviewer got Brian’s date of birth wrong by two years! In their early days management wanted them all to shave a year or two off the ages thinking it would help teen fans relate better to them, taking a year off Brian’s age. This is why newspapers at the time of Brian’s Death said he was 26, when in fact he was 27.

I’ve heard that having followed me the Stones since 1962. I don’t consider Stewart’s contributions, other than an excellent boogie pianist and roadie, secondhand. I’ll stick with whatever Bill Wyman says and never heard him mention IS as a founder, only Brian. IS was a Brutus in the worst way. He maligned the dead; Brian with his poisoned opinions. Probly not of his making but Glimmers and mngmt. maybe by BJ’s own unpredictable temperament. Not a friend of Brian who gave him the job. The only musically gifted player was BJ., in my educated but humble opinion.

I'm one of those people who -- despite real respect for them on many levels -- feel disinterested in post-Brian Stones. I'm sure they've done great stuff (Moonlight Mile, Heaven, etc while Mick Taylor was with them are pretty awesome), but the Jones factor was real, I think. In my early 20s as a musician, developing myself into a guy who played full time for about a dozen years once I had it down, while as a songwriter and singer I wanted to be Bryan Ferry, as a performer and guitarist I wanted to be Brian Jones. Y'know, that understated thing.

"We were not tough really - just vivid , and English music tended to become too soft, And Elvis maybe some early recordings, but later on he didn't like what he was doing, and he is of no interest to us" "We liked the rough original "negro" rythm and blues (in fact he said "negro" - mirroring how black people still were featured 1964, a nod to common public and the language that they used, so they wouldn't fall off the train of initiation before it left the station)/B.J/ But black music was overwhelmingly coming long before any description in words. It was rythm, it was tough (many men don't know, but little girls understand) , and the Stones added some oxygene, performance energy, and vividness to it. The music had been there all the time in USA But the masters of segregation just didn't want acknowledge it. It took a band from over in England, to at last let America realize what it was already gifted with. And never you want to return to these forests of vanilla-soft-surfing - boys. and girls music since then, It comes in waves every decade, but soon shown to the wardsrobe where it came from, and back to stage again, letting crazy rythm vividness, and deep respect honor Rythm&Blues, and it is all what people remember from the days when they broke all barriers and offer even USA surfing blues- boys-----a lesson. I am pretty sure that Rolling Stones delivered the original, the very Mr Mc Kinley Morganfield performing in Stockholm, and it couldn't desert my mind since. Rolling Stones were pioneers opening up doors. xie xie ni.

What is the source? I've never heard that Keith and Brian were going to be a songwriting team. Maybe they wrote some songs/instrumentals together, but I don't know how serious of songwriting partners they were. There is a rumor that the unreleased song, "Dust My Pyramids" was written by Brian Jones, but I don't know if that's true as the source of that claim has never been verified.

Nanker/Phelge were group compositions. All the band members were credited for beng the writers of Nanker/Phelge compositions: Mick, Keith, Brian, Bill, Charlie, and maybe Ian Stewart, although I'm not sure.

Nanker/Phelge was the name used for group compositions. That is Bill, Brian, Charlie, Keith and Mick. Phelge was Jimmy Phelge who lived with Brian, Keith and Mick at 102 Edith Grove Chelsea. A Nanker was a face pulled by Brian and Keith whereby they would push their nostrils up with two fingers and pull their eyes down with two fingers making a grotesque face for people they disliked. Brian dreamed up the name Nanker/Phelge for the songs that they all jointly wrote.
