    Brilliant idea. Note Cam buckle straps work better than ratchet straps then you don't have to worry about damaging the canoe by over tightening.

    Awesome idea!! I'm on my way to harbor freight and home Depot right now to pick everything up

    I can't see driving this rig down the highway, but it does solve a problem for me. I have a young boy that is no help loading or unloading, and the lake we go practice on is 1.2 miles from my house. This is a good solution that solves running a mile down the road and also solves loading it by myself. And I live across the street from Harbor Freight.

      LoL There you go.. its an option is what it is. I have been hauling mine about an hour to the lake down the interstate and it has no bounce at all and doesnt come loose ever with ratchet straps of course. However, thats not often mostly 3-4 miles to a pond or bayou. I understand some concern around stress but I have never noticed any signs. Like i said, I still strap it up front and across the middle just inside the tailgate.

    Great idea. I putting that in my GMC Sierra to help with multi pro tailgate. The secondary tailgate is week in my opinion.

      Really? I have seen those thats interesting feedback. This should work just fine with helping out with that. As long as you get the alignment just right and remember to allow for a small gap to tighten down into the chocks. Someone else provided feedback that they thought it may create too much stress on the canoe at the support point. A valid point but with the strap being with there and as snug as it gets there is absolutely no movement up ad down. Also, it rides so tight to the tailgate or may even slightly rest on it that it wouldnt allow any movement in my opinion.

    I'm going backwards in your videos and this was good video. I've had sit-on-top kayaks in the past, but have had thoughts of a canoe to reach hunting spots. Look forward to the future videos about how your canoe for hunting and fishing.

    It's called a bed extender. You should already have a hitch lock. Go buy an 8ft piece of 2" square tubing and make your own bed extender and bow the support top. Yours does nothing to support the back end relying on the straps in the front and most of us have a toolbox in the back. I used to put my 17ft upside down on the roof edge and top of tailgate to haul it. Screw that gotta unload everything, not anymore.

    • @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346
      @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346  3 роки тому

      Yea I didnt want to be unloading everything either! So mine once snuggled in sits right on the tailgate but doesnt bounce with the help of the chocks. This was just a simple option for me since im not going far and its quick and easy. I bought a bed extender and it sucked. Plus, I didnt want to have to take it in and out or worry about keeping it locked. Thanks for the feedback!

    Why not just lean the canoe gunnels on the cab on one end and to the tailgate on the other and strap her down. Seems like a lot of stress of it own weight on one end of the canoe just hanging off the back. But many ways to skin a cat I guess

    • @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346
      @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346  3 роки тому +1

      You are right. Many ways you could do it. This canoe is not that heavy and I think the stress is minimal. As I said its not bouncing or shifting at all and no stress points for the most part. Its about the same length or vessel on the truck as well as off. Thanks for the feedback!

  • @richarddorsch7275

    What stops that platform from moving forward as you slide the canoe in?

    • @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346
      @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346  2 роки тому

      Im assuming you mean while loading? I suppose not much other that I cut it to fit snug and when I slide it in im always holding the back end up just a bit and when I get it in place sometimes I do have to pull the board back in an inch or two up against the back end of the truck bed again. If I fiddle with it enough and work it a little out of place. Its never been a significant hassle though. Thanks for the feedback!

    Would this work in a 6 ft bed with a 16 fr 80# canoe?

    • @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346
      @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346  Рік тому

      Hmmm. Mine is a 14 ft in a 5.5 foot bed I believe. You would have a pretty good nose sticking out there so it depends on the quality and sturdiness if your canoe? Also make sure it is secured tightly so it doesn’t bounce. 80# seems pretty light though. If your just making a short run 10-20 minutes or something I wouldn’t worry about it!

    • @kjfishman547
      @kjfishman547 20 днів тому

      I think you would have too much over hang. A ladder rack may be a better choice for something that long.

  • @noahjohns7954
    @noahjohns7954 3 роки тому +2

    How long is your canoe? Wondering if it’ll work with my 17’. We have a tool box on our truck too, so not sure how that would work.

    • @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346
      @theskinnypinehuntingco.6346  3 роки тому

      Mine is 14ft. Yea unless its a floating box and you could slide it under? I do have a shorter bed though my dodge is only 5.5 ft. However, 17ft is a big mamma! Some have expressed concern over hull stress on mine due to excessive overhang and the bouncing. Butt if you set it right it locks in to those chocks and ive never even had it come loose. Nevertheless, I understand what they are saying.

    • @noahjohns7954

    Really unnecessary, I have a 14ft canoe and if strapped properly it doesn't move side to side in the back of a Tacoma. Pic to prove it, just message me

      I hear ya. I'm just someone who likes a little over effort at minimal cost lol But the thing is also I wanted to strap my canoe in facing up so I wasnt constantly taking stuff in and out. My backpacks and gear can always just ride. Not sure if thats how you strap yours still. I didnt like the way it even rolls or leans while trying to strap and haul or trying to use too many straps.

      @@theskinnypinehuntingco.6346 I have 14.5ft pocket canyon that always rides with front and rear airbags and outfitting. When in my 6ft tacoma bed it sits upright but never has all my gear until it's in the water. I'm a poor river guide, it takes 2 real 10ft NRS straps to hold it on a roof rack ...I need one to hold it steady and secure in the truck bed with no side to side or rolling, the 2nd is just for safety. You built a nice brace to secure the boat, just saying its totally possible to do the same for $20 less and no wood is needed!
