Low immersion yarn dyeing - Outta this world variegated colorway

- Опубліковано 2 тра 2020
- In this video I am dyeing the variegated colorway that is part of the Outta This World kit for the MiramarWoods Novum Alas Shawl kit designed in collaboration by Kristina of @Miramarwoods and myself. I use 3 colors to make a variegated skein in a low immersion dye setting. This isn't a tutorial exactly, I discuss how I set everything up and show the technique but there are no dye mixture instructions, just application of already mixed dyes.
You can find more information about the shawl by visitng Kristina @Miramarwoods on Instagram and about the kits by visiting www.fuzzywhatknots.com.
If you have any questions or comments please drop them below! I love hearing from everyone. Until next time, Make loops with love and stay safe!

Thank-You, that was very helpful!
What a clever idea to use an industrial-sized warming pan!
Wow, such beautiful and vibrant colors! I’d like to make a cardigan with that yarn.😍
Thank you so much! I'll be bringing this one back over the winter. I'd love to see a sweater made with this color!
Wow! Looks great
Beautiful colors.
This was exactly what I was looking for! Beautiful
Thank you so much! I'll be having more dyeing vlogs soon!
Thank you so much for sharing this. Beautiful 😍
This is such a beautiful colour way. As a beginner dyer I find watching & learning from people such as yourself, hugely beneficial & so inspirational! So thank you so very much for sharing. I am too fearful of adding colour all over at the moment because even too close to one another results in colours that seem to muddy & blend in a not very nice way. Plus, I like to leave some white space. Watching this has encouraged me to give it a go though!
Very beautiful!!
Thank you so much 😀
This is so beautiful!
Thanks love!
Gorgeous color!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks, Teresa, very informative. Look forward to some more dyeing vlogs 🙂

Beautiful x
Thank you so much 💜
very pretty!
This is one of the best almost tutorials I've seen. Can you throw a few bits in about how long each time on the burner? Just a little more info.. not a novel, but, just a few breadcrumbs for us hungry folk. It really deserves more.. cause you are talented and we want to know!! Thankyou! :-)
Awe thank you so much. I do plan on doing more almost tutorials (ha, ha) coming soon. I really appreciate the feedback!
Love that verigated hank ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
Fun video!
Thank you so much!
Yes😊❤more plz. Can you get more detailed in depth of measurement tempature and colors your using exactly
...thanks for sharing your process ...would have been nice to see the results
I show the results at the end of the videos. Thanks!
Very very pretty!! 🥰
I want to start doing this, but I want to dye with natural dye’s. Do you have any idea if it will work?
Yes it definitely will! I have a good friend Purlscoutyarns that does all natural dyeing on eco friendly yarn!
Oh man, I'm too late! I would have loved to buy this colorway. The yarn you featured was absolutely breathtaking. I know this was a collaboration kit, but would you ever consider selling this yarn again?
Awe thank you and sure. I still have the recipe. Email me at Fuzzywhatknots@gmail.com and we can work it out.
@@fuzzywhatknots thank you so much! I'll definitely contact you 😁
Fantastic. New sub here.
Thank you 💗 it's a pretty color 😁
Please, more dye videos. Tutorials if possible.
Sure! I haven't been really active on here lately. Sorry for taking so long to respond! I will certainly do that 🙌🏻
That yarn looks so beautiful. What is the fiber content of the yarn? Where do you buy your yarn, if I may be so bold to ask?
These skeins were MCS fingering weight yarn and i get most of my bases through wool2dye4
Exactly the combo I am looking for. Great! What were the colors again? Berry Pink, Blue, and Teal? Thank you! UPDATE: Ok, I think I've figured it out. Pink or Fuschia, blue, and violet? And, I'm assuming you put a couple of tbs. of Vinegar in the yarn soaking process?
This was for a shawl kit collaboration. It's been awhile since I've dyed this one but without looking at my notes I believe it was Royal Purple, Frozen, and Berry Crush from Dharma
@@fuzzywhatknots Thank you for responding... I've tried this different ways, and just can't keep the dye in place at the end.
Sorry it took so long. I took a hiatus from producing videos to focus on getting my business rolling. I started with barely any water and the yarn was presoaked in citric acid. The key is to be very specific about laying the colors in the same spot until water starts accumuliting. accumulating. There's enough water from the dye to keep the yarn from straight up burning, turn your heat on the lowest setting and wait between applications. I'll do another video in greater detail for everyone very soon.
@@fuzzywhatknots Thanks so much.. that clarifies a lot!
Hello, do not be tired, what colors did you use?
What are you heating the pan with? Stove top.. ?
Approximately how long do you keep the dyed yarn over heat? Thank you.
It varies. Minimum once all color is applied is 20 to 25 holding temperature between 180 and 200 degrees. If the color doesn't clear I apply more citric acid at a longer time.
Hi, I've just started hand dyeing yarn and was just wondering if you're pouring a 1% dye stock directly on the yarn or is it more diluted? Thanks
Hey congrats on your hand dyed journey. TBH its been so long since I've dyed this colorway. The recipe is probably buried somewhere in my heaps of notes. Back then I was usually doing 1 or 2% depending on how saturated the dye color was. I am thinking of bringing this color back but just haven't been brave enough to go deep diving through stuff :D
Would have loved to see the finished yarn
It was shown at the very end.
@@psdumas apologies missed it
When the water simmers or bubble doesn't that felt the yarn?
It is typically harder to felt superwash yarn than non superwash yarns. However, you have to be cognizant, when the water is so low, of the temperature because it can scorch the color which I have had happen. I usually keep the temperature pretty low or off completely when starting colorways like this. You see in the video that I had turned it on at first but quickly turned it off again because there wasn't enough water and you could hear the sizzling. You generally don't want the water to be at a boil. Between 180 and 190 sets the color.
could you tell us how much dye and water you are using in your various colors?
Sure. It really depends on what I'm dyeing. Here I started with very very little water, the yarn was presoaked but you can see in the video that when i press on it there isn't very much. Going forward I will include those specifics in the video. Thanks!
Mmmmm
What dyes do you use??
I use Jacquard and Dharma dyes. This video it was exclusively Dharma dyes
What colour is used? Name?
Trying to figure out the same thing
This was part of shawl kit and the variegated skein in this video I called Outta this world.
How to pronounce “skein” ua-cam.com/video/bDisTgo5hJg/v-deo.html
Thanks
Muy lindo pero no entendi nada...
😂
Please, it’s SKANE, not skeen!
