This is truly the most helpful dyeing video I've seen. The washes of color beneath the speckling makes my heart so happy! Thank you for this generous sharing 💗
Well that would explain why my latest dye project with 2 skeins of 5% stellina yarn ended up with no stellina left after the process! I thought it was the length of time I had heated it for, trying to get the speckles to set...clear.y not, it was the citric acid that did it! I love your rule breaking of adding dry yarn, genius idea.
As I'm watching I'm thinking this is not going to be nice. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COLOR WAY! You definitely have a talent for yarn dying! Great video and lots of fun to watch...please keep them coming!
Lisaknitz6 lol! You have no idea how often I say the same thing when I create new colorways. Fortunately I’m almost always pleasantly surprised. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you, this video is awesome! I‘m not a dyer but it‘s so interesting how the wool I love to work with is made😊 All knitters should totally watch this to understand how special, creative, hard work and time consuming this process is! Nobody will ever complain about indie dyed wool prices anymore 😉😊 Thank you!
Thank you very much for this inspiring and instructive video! 💕 I just found you on UA-cam and was very impressed! 👏 I really can't wait to try your dye-technique... 😀 Greetings from the southwest of Germany! 💗
Thank you so much for your awesome videos! This one was amazing! I've been playing around dying a few for myself and this couldn't have come at a more perfect time! Now I have to give this a try!
I'm trying to learn as much as I can about dying because I'm new to all of this. Several times you mentioned a Lucky Strike dye and I wondered what that was. Thanks for sharing, this is beautiful!
Holy moly, Tayler THIS IS SO PRETTY! I'm going to try a similar technique with solar dyeing and see how it works. I love how all the research and experimentation you have done over the last year and developed into a truly unique style and technique that is all YOU. Amazing, lady. AMAZING!
i'm making some tubes to dye, then re knit on a CSM. have watched a few other authoresses...you are in front of the pack now. thanks for being focused, having a great listening tone and being well organized. i'm subscribed...:)
Thanks ... I love how you did this. I am just watching tutorials and learning right now and am wondering how you get two identical skeins for knitting socks.
Excellent tutorial - thanks! How long do you have to steam set the speckles? And is there anything special you need to do to get the yarn out of the dye pot and into the rinse so that the speckles don’t get ruined?
So gorgeous! So you only speckled the one side, you didn't flip the yarn and do the other side? Also can you do the slow submerge technique with ammonium sulphate?
This was so fun! My 6 year old son snuck up on my lap and watch the last half with me. He put his “mask “ on when you said to and was cheering for more speckels🤣🤣
This is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to attempt it, but I don't have a safe space I could dedicate to acid dyes that aren't food safe. Would this work with food dyes?
Thank you for the great lesson! I'm absolutely new in dyeing, this is one of some very first video I have watched. I have questions: 1 - How long did it take for you to keep the yarn in "purple"water? 2 - What was the temperature of "green" water? 3 - Did you add acid to "green" water or just to the pot at the beginning? (60 spoons, right?) 4 - What dyes did you use? Thank you! Love colours you created!
Really good tutorial, I greatly appreciate you sharing your unique techniques. All your videos are quite fascinating to watch. Can you tell me, do you scour (wash) your yarn before doing any treatment to it? Thanks x.
Danuta Phipps I’m so glad you were able to take something away from this demo. Thank you for watching! As for pretreating, I typically soak all of my yarn with a bit of mild degreasing soap (like Synthrapol) prior to dyeing. My non superwash yarn is soaked with both the soap and citric acid.
This was a great technique to learn! Thank you for this video series! I love the peeks behind the curtain to see what other dyers do. I also have a question for you! How do you like the Imusa burners? I have read a ton of reviews of them that say they aren't very reliable, but I wanted to ask someone who would be using it for the same purpose I would be! Thanks so much!
First of all, thank you for watching and I'm sorry for my delayed response! And you're so welcome for these behind-the-scenes peeks. I love sharing them. As for my burners, I love them. They are inexpensive and do the job. They've been through a lot and are still working fabulously. I especially love that they are electric coils as opposed to induction surfaces because it allows me to use basic stainless steel pans. Induction burners are not good to use with anything that doesn't have a magnetic bottom as they will scorch the contents of the pan.
Thanks for sharing this with us!! Very interesting!! What brand of dye are you using? Hope you will continue those tips!! :-) maybe my little 4 months old Will have unic sweater in the futur!! (Maybe soon!!)
Your results are so gorgeous! I wondered if the underside of the yarn gets any of the speckling, or does it stay pretty much untouched? Did you flip and reapply the speckles or leave it be? It's so pretty.
I watched the tutorial at the moment where you say how much citric acid you add to dye pot several times, and not quite sure how many you add. Could I ask you to let me know? I hear 60 spoons, is that correct? Are these tea spoons or normal spoons? Thanks a lot in advance!
Thank you! So I usually leave it in the pot without moving it for about two minutes and then I do a glove check (rub my gloved finger over the most saturated spots), if my glove comes away clear, I move on. If not, I leave it for another two minutes.
Barrash Family thank you for asking! A Lucky Strike colorway is one that I dye using a dye stock solution made from dye particles left on my utensils, wiped up from the surrounding surface during my dye session, or in rare cases, from dye that was not fully exhausted in the first batch. I never send dye down the drain so this is one of my strategies to help with that. There’s an article about the process on the shop site under the About link. ❤️
Wool, Needles, Hands: a Fiber Journey, You are genius! So like recycling. I’m heading to read your article now. Thanks for enlightening me with your answer. Happy dying!! Eileen
Thanks for the great video, how do you make sure the speckles are on the other side? ( sorry if you said that but my dog had to pee) grrr can you believe it while im watching such a interesting video.....FYI I did save it, the video not the pee,,lol
Rave Stitches hi! For this, I only added speckles on the one side. It creates a really pretty variegated look in the fabric when it knits up. It’s less overpowering than an all over speckle.
This is truly the most helpful dyeing video I've seen. The washes of color beneath the speckling makes my heart so happy! Thank you for this generous sharing 💗
This was the best tutorial on dying I've seen in ages. No distractions just a tutorial...thank you for sharing this. I'm looking forward to more.
I agree!
Absolutely gorgeous. Looks like watercolor.
I would never have believed it could turn out so lovely! Thank you so much for the sharing!
melendu29 absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Awesome Taylor. It was such fun to watch you work your magic with color on yarn. Thank you!
Knitalatte I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
This is EXACTLY the kind of yarn I'd love to make myself, thank you so much for this tip video! You create amazing things!

Vinegar for stellina is generally the rule..
I have never considered putting dry yarn into the dyebath - genius! Thanks for sharing, Tayler!
Your tutorials are always good to watch.
Thank you Karol!
That looks amazing!!! The best dye video I have watched! I want to buy both of those skeins!! Fantastic :)
this is amazing! Just started dyeing and appreciate much more the process, creativity and effort that goes into yarn dyeing . !!!
BoredomKills Design thank you! That means so much. Yes. It is quite a labor of love, but such a wonderful creative outlet and form of expression. ❤️

Melanie Giehle this is such a wonderful acknowledgement and compliment. Thank you so much.
So pretty! I was expecting the yarn to just be a dark mess. Magic!

Very cool ty
So cool!!! Thanks for the info!

This is one of the best dyeing videos I've seen. Can't wait to try this method. Do you make your own labels? Is their software for that?
Do you pre-wash the yarn before doing this dye process? Thanks for video, very interesting!

Hi Cindy! Thank you for watching and I'm sorry for my delayed response. I use Pro Chem wash-fast fiber-reactive acid dyes as well as Dharma acid dyes.
Hello, do not be tired. Do you have any training?
beautiful

cr chick what you’re hearing is “six teaspoons”. I hope that helps!
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS thanks a lot!!
Loved the colors! Which dye has the best color range? I'm new to dying and I want to find a good dye. Thanks so much!
celita1010 thank you! Pro Chem has the largest range of wash-fast acid dyes, however many of my favorites come from Dharma Trading co. 👍❤️
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Thanks so much! ❤❤
celita1010 my pleasure.
What was the fluro yellow?
Is it important to use citric acid so that the color is impregnated? Because some people don't use it.
After the speckling do you rinse in cold water?
Hi Miriam! Yes, I always rinse in tepid water afterwards. Just let the yarn cool down completely first. 👍
Beautiful! How long do you leave the yarn in the pot after speckling so it all doesn't run together when you lift it out?
Thank you! So I usually leave it in the pot without moving it for about two minutes and then I do a glove check (rub my gloved finger over the most saturated spots), if my glove comes away clear, I move on. If not, I leave it for another two minutes.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your reply! :)
Have the skeins sold?
How can I start dyeing by learning the basics? Can you help me?
👌
Hey Tayler, What do you mean when you say "Lucky Strike"? Is it a brand of dye or the way you mix the dye? Thanks.
Barrash Family thank you for asking! A Lucky Strike colorway is one that I dye using a dye stock solution made from dye particles left on my utensils, wiped up from the surrounding surface during my dye session, or in rare cases, from dye that was not fully exhausted in the first batch. Though I do love a good all-over speckle. 😊. And thank you for watching!
Do you wash before to dye?
Johanne Belanger like I mention in the video, for this technique I do not soak the yarn in advance.
Ok, I ear in the video, I think you wash and drye before. Sorry for my english. Thanks!
Your video is interesting.
