If you played a game where you just constantly fought the boss over and over again it wouldn't be very entertaining or dramatic. But if you build up that hatred the payoff is much more rewarding.

It’s the exact reason why to this day the company as a whole looks back at clips through the late 90’s in awe and incorporates those clips into the weekly shows. It’s something they will never recapture again. I would say that's the main problem the WWE is still facing even with HHH running creative. Is it has felt too overly scripted. That's why many fans look back on the attitude era so fondly. It just felt more real, even if it was still scripted. Classic example is Stone Cold and his feud with Vince. It was very believable.
