Tunnel vision probably comes into play just focusing on the water. Myself I just wouldn't enter. We have one about two miles from where I live and could save about four miles as a short cut. I've never had the inclination to use it.
For those who don't know what hydrolock is. When water is sucked into your engines combustion chamber and water cannot be compressed, it will cause the engine to lock-up. If this happens do not try to start your engine. Have it towed to a mechanic they will check for damaged parts, ie. cracked heads, bent or broken conecting rods blown gaskets, ect. If no damege is found they will change the oil, dry the intake system and drain and clean the fuel systam. Bottom line is it's much cheaper to find an alternate route even if its 100 miles and half a day out of your way.
So many drivers do not know how to negotiate deep water, must be at slow speed keeping the revs up and not create a bow wave that will swamp the engine but for some reason they seem to have the need to go fast. It doesn't work and if it does it is more by luck than judgement
Bow wave is actually what you need to create in front by entering slowly but you really need to know how hig your air intake is before attempting to go through anything like this.
nah, something else happened. Just a coincidence. I use to have the same one and it had no issues with river crossings... it sounds like a gearbox/clutch issue.
Would love to know what the van rental company did with that customer after he phoned them. "Sorry sir, flood damage is not covered. You are responsible for the engine replacement."
Probably not far off of 750k of motor damage in this easy what will all get written off cause too expensive to fix it's embarrassing an U wonder why insurance expensive
There should be no cost to insurance companies. They don't pay out for hydro locked engines the same as they don't pay out if you blow/seize you engine running it low of oil. Breakdown recovery organisations like , AA , RAC, Green Flag etc will not enter water to recover a vehicle, that's why you see local recovery operators dragging the scrap vehicles out of the water.
Our friends from across the pond be calling our trucks ridiculously large as if we were trying to compensate for something, well todoloo right there chap🤣
@Comfortzone99 Hydro lock is when water gets in the engine and locks up the pistons and since it don't compress, as you pointed out, it locks the pistons in place thus the name. Excellent point.
The best vehicle I ever had for water crossings is the Toyota Yaris, I had one saw a video on UA-cam of one driving in a river after that I went through the deepest puddles, NP
I think it's a joke no wonder car insurance is high with idiots like this I'm a mechanic and I see the other side of this people in tears when you tell them the engine has been destroyed as well as water ingress into most electrical components clearly some uneducated on lookers going (wat wat were !!! ) sad people
British cars are already not known for their reliability and can not absolutely take this kind of neglect. Once water is in your engine, the work is massive to clean the internals. No insurance would cover negligence 😢.
newer cars are so fragile. i've taken my first 2 cars 94 olds cutless and 87 buick lesbare through water like that ..often even, when i was young and stupid. but they took it like a champ.
hi all from Moscow! Such areas with a small water hazard can be driven in reverse and it’s better if you’re not local, then don’t go into the water if you don’t know the ford!
in our town we have two underpasses and if it rains a lot , the street is always very fast closed. but that is no excuse for the stupidness of these drivers. I do not understand how they drive so fast through the water and damaging their cars😮
Ive got a Camel Trophy Discovery fitted with snorkel & breathers and some of these muppets are hitting the water faster than i would - you got to get the bow wave just right. People really are clueless & dense.
It did seem odd as you would expect that vehicle to be capable of getting through there (it's pretty much the same as the recovery vehicle!) and they were driving at a slow steady speed. It sounds like some sort of gearbox issue, so maybe it had a problem beforehand and the water just finished it off?
The local towing guy has a gold plated castle just down the road. 😂
If you see a bunch of people filming you about to do something , you should think twice. . . . . . ..

@@BarryRudge You have a wise inclination there. :)
A lot of water ahead,... people on the side filming,... Nah, here I come, what can go wrong...??
Exactly 😂
I love the sweet sound of a hydrolock.
Just gave me an idea for windchimes!
Good business for the recovery guys. Wish there was a flooded road near me, make a fortune.
These people are idiots
Like the old days if there was a tire shop nearby there was probably a road with spiky object thrown on it 😉
More than an hour of fascinating video about how some fools kill their cars, while others watch them and giggle.
My personal nomination for the title Fool Of The Year is the guy with the white van trying to pullstart an engine with broken rods.

А если прикрыть картонкой или пакетом переднюю часть бампера и решетки, вода не попадёт внутрь?😂
Most drivers are unaware of the existence of a combustion chamber. Let alone that they know how water can get in and what the consequences are. 😅
These videos never get old.
The number of so called “professional” drivers coming to grief, never fails to amaze me
This is a testament to human stupidly and self belief in the impossible

It is so obvious. Don't even need to figure out if they make it not. Just look at the speed they come in 🙂
Bow wave is actually what you need to create in front by entering slowly but you really need to know how hig your air intake is before attempting to go through anything like this.
@@BarryRudge I wouldn't be there pulling them out it's there own fault.
Part of your comment is incorrect, enter slowly, tuck in behind the bow wave, proceed behind the wave. I go off road in my 4wd weekly here in NZ.
If you have to worry about bow waves its too deep and you should go around it.
Dolbaeby 👏👏👏
Причём полные )))
That Mitsubishi truck at 3:15 is shockingly designed if it couldn't cope with that. The Ford driver at 11:00 was a bit unlucky as well.
Must have very low air intakes.

А ведь эти люди получили права на управление транспортным средством и допущены до езды по дорогам общего пользования

They are idiots. I can't believe the speeds some of these idiots try to drive through these flooded roads at.
This is my best series on youtube
Thanks for the entertainment 😂 cannot believe so many people living amongst us without brains 😂😂
A lot of people are brain dead, unfortunately.
In some kind of sense, the Zombie Apocalypse is already upon us.

What about the wet and dirty interior and the electrical system? It only takes weeks to dry the interior.
They build a walk way for people to walk over the river but can't build the road higher with a culvert 😂
Love the sound of a zero compression engine. It’s not supposed to sound like that. Hydrolock!!
It breaks my heart to see people killing these cars of their own volition.
These people are just stupid.
Scary these people are amongst us very scary.
And this will increase everyone else's premiums
Let's just call it a scientific experiment exploring the compressibility of water.
Poor old van driver
His van is no more

Engines, computers, sensors, wiring etc. Think of the cost b4 driving in.
40.00 You can laugh now, but at the garage you won't laugh anymore, your engine is done. Bye bye bye engine. Very expensive costs.
BMWs don't seem to fair too well, people go way too fast
The goverment want cars off the road...seams like these people not understanding how an internal combustion engine works is speeding that reality up.😮
Honestly, everybody should want to get away from a car-based society. Overall it's bad for most people on most levels.
Cars are freedom.

NEVER drive fast through water, when the airfilter takes in water, you can forget it and throw yr car away.

the tragedy is, that many if not most could have made it if they drove much slower.
But even then, I hate to think what damage is done to the cat, wheel bearings, not to mention the water ingress assisting future corrosion.
