      The problem with Hannibal is that he’s a massive hypocrite and an awful human being in his own right. If you JUST focus on the Abdullah situation, Hannibal IS a victim and it’s hard not to feel at least a little bad for him. But he wastes away ALL that goodwill by being awful lol

    Brian is correct about functional literacy. I worked in a prison, and many inmates couldn’t read or write at a 4th grade level. They can recognize certain words (food, drink, hot, cold, money), write their own name, and speak clearly, but that’s essentially it. They can function and most wouldn’t question it.

    • @Breakfast_of_Champions
      @Breakfast_of_Champions Рік тому +15

      This is considered more or less normal in anglophone countries, the rate of functional illiteracy is around 50% in GB and USA.

      Abdullah’s restaurant in Atlanta was so famous that George Clooney mentioned it in Up In The Air. Could an illiterate person open, build and keep a restaurant like that open for years? Abdullah at one point owned a piece of the Puerto Rico territory. As a minority owner he was one of the people running the office. I am not challenging the point there are people in prison who are functionally illiterate but Brian is not saying nobody knows in the case of those inmates , I don’t see how nobody would know after traveling with him or in other cases doing business with him. He has been in the business for decades and now he comes up with this story and none of his former colleagues is backing this story up?

      @@fightsports66 "illiteracy" does not mean you can't work with numbers, in fact be even great with it. And the books can be kept by someone else and often are. "Functional illiteracy" means you can do enough to navigate 80-90%% of everyday live, and maybe you got help for the rest. Think about it, how often do you find yourself in situations with friends or acquaintancesthat would actually allow you to take a guess at their level of literacy? That just doesn't happen very often.

    The question of how old he was may be answered by the hepatitis test paperwork they showed during the episode. Not sure if it was accurate, but I believe it said 1941 (making him 82 or so now).

      In reality, the focus of the episode should've been on Devon 60% or more, but these guys had to think of ratings, and people know who Abby is.
      It's called Dark Side of the Ring. Abdullah being a successful adult and making money all around the world isn't dark. This crazy fat bastard blading someone with a blade he used on his own forehead and ruining that guy's opportunity to go to WWE is dark. And Devon being a weirdo and having a downward spiral makes it even darker.

    I was born in Puerto Rico and lived there until I was almost 10 years old. As a family of wrestling fans, we watched numerous wrestlers (mostly heels) who would come from "the states", but Abdullah was very unique. He was terrifying, he was brutal, and everyone was scared of him. Whenever we saw him attack Carlos Colon with the fork to the forehead, it incited so much heat that he was legitimately hated and feared by even the adults.
