I finally finished this boss run. I guess, I used up my luck quota for the whole remaining lifetime in the fight against Darm. Even with Leo's sword equipped that boss is almost impossible for a "no damage" fight. Yes, you can just use shield magic but where is the fun in that? :) Of course, there are quite a few bosses in this entry of Ys series that have annoying and very difficult attacks. Oh, if you want to know if I recommend playing this game... Really? It's Ys. This should be a reason enough to play it. *And it's my favorite version of Ys IV*
Uh nope for me. I've played and finished 4 Ys games in a row - first PCE ys1+2, then genesis ys 3 and then PCE Dawn of Ys. I had a blast, no frustration just pure joy. I'm gonna replay Dawn of Ys soon too - in my opinion it is ultimate, best classic Ys game.
@@SquerolBoss Fine, go ahead, no one is stopping you. I finished some classic Ys games too, and throughly enjoyed them too, but the difficulty of these bosses IS high, that is pretty much agreed upon.
@@FelipeWalker2 Yep agree, difficulty is much higher than ys1+2 mostly because boss fights are much faster, their movesets are more varied and You can't just kill them by brute force. Still nothing masochistic.
@@FelipeWalker2 Don't forget that in early Ys games even 1 level might make the difference between a very hard boss fight and a fight with reasonable difficulty or downright a cakewalk, so if you find yourself having this much of hard time with bosses just grind a level or two and see if you are taking less damage and dealing more damage to the bosses.

Thanks for this vid Ys 4 dawn of ys is probably in my top 5 games of all time and It’s nice to see it getting at least some of the attention it deserves
When you look at the fight against Lord Of Luna (28:11), it's almost unbelievable that the game runs on a 8 bits console released in october 1987 (exactly one year befor the Megadrive/Genesis), there are so much visual effects here, as there are throughout the game (like the pseudo-transparencies under the trees, some real transparencies here and there, the rain/thunder effects + the beautiful landscapes), considering the CR-ROM doesn't enhance the console's graphic capabilities (only its capacity, hence the animated cutscenes, the voice-over, the CD quality musics), the game would have looked as nice running on a cartridge (just not as complete) !
@@crushingonIt's a heavy misconception and one of the reasons why the bit wars was dumb af. The PC Engine is a console with a 8-bit cpu but the gpu is 16-bit so in the west they decided to market it based on its gpu. Hey any chance you could try La-Mulana? It is said to be a very hard Indiana Jones themed Metroidvania that has tons of Bosses and Mini-bosses, it would also be beneficial to the game itself since both La-Mulana and its sequel (La-Mulana 2) are about to be put onto the Switch system.
what is tthe best emulator do play this? Currently replaying the Ys series and was thinking of giving this one a try because people talk it all the time
Mednafen, it's the most accurate pcengine emulator to it's day, in console pcengine did come back as one of the mini with a compilation, a kinda large one compared to the rest.
I find it interesting that the music used on the 2nd/3rd boss here is the final boss music in the SNES Ys IV, and for whatever reason isn't included in Memories of Celceta at all. EDIT: Seeing the whole thing it's used a lot in Dawn, but only once in Mask and not in Celceta at all.
As much as I would love to hear it in Memories of Celceta, this track is just too similar to Yngwie Malmsteen's 'Far Beyond the Sun' and Falcom would be in BIG trouble if they used it.

Wasn't the PC Engine a 16 bit console? You know, "Turbographx-16"?
Or did they actually lie about it?

I love the music in this game.
Love the first boss, an arachnid that lets out a thunderous burp every time you hit its prolapse! Great fun!
Was that first boss burping?...
Now im intrested
Sounds like it yes.
Drunken Spider drinking 🍺🍻🕷
Burp Spider
Burp and farting its stomach out

One of the best Ys game.
It will be re-released in the PC Engine Mini

Why’s that first boss burping? 🤣
I don't know why, but I love that how well it is sampled. Sounds very well.
Because he ate that guy which You had to rescue.
I have PTSD from some of these bosses. Old bump Ys was hard as fuck. I much prefer the current systems.

you make these look so damn easy... damn you 😅
Nice Jobs!
... First time seeing this game, yet it seems so familiar for some reason...
Cool games man no damage
Did the first boss roar or did he just burp!?
Could you do Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human?
Honestly I like the Guruda form this version more than the one from Memories of Celceta. His design and fight are way cooler.
Cool
Wouldn't boss 7-8 actually count as a second phase since gladis mainly lost an eye in the first fight?

Does the first boss have 2 heads or does it vomit its insides then prolapse from behind?
I think latter is more like it. Though there is also visible teeth when it's on the back so perhaps two faces.
Wait, where did the blond guy with wings go? Is he one of those unfought villains like Ephidel from Fire Emblem?
yeah you dont fight him in this game, but in mask of the sun he's the final boss
Nice try. And I knew it was last boss used heal, but first listen this game. TY for video.
7:05 Ive seen enough hentai to know where this is going
Story plays out differently than Memories of Celceta, but the villains are the same.
What the hell ? Why is the music so friggin' good ? Game, you are from 1993, stop !
*makes a short google search for game's composers*
