Hey Sammy, you know the trick of playing in the key of G and playing a D on the B string all the time, but have you ever tried to vibrate that D without vibrating the rest of the chord? I do it all the time (maybe a little to much) it’s addicting once it works.
Just yesterday I watched Steve's "telephone game" video also feat. Paul. I also had already watched your video about 1 melody and your 2 interpretations. And I thought that people are often talking so badly about the internet, sh...ty braindead YT videos ruining children, etc. But that seeing Paul and Steve connected via YT from Canada to the Netherlands and creating beautiful music together shows that it isn't "the internet", but how to use it as a tool to do something great, connecting and inspiring. Don't want to sound cheesy or phony, I really thought that.
This highlights the usefulness of formal music education. It's like seeing two engineers talking to each other. Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of great guitarists out there who cant read notes. But the exchange of ideas here was so much simpler and smoother because they are both well educated.
What these Guys are doin' in this video, is the reason why i love Music, why i fell in Love with playing the Guitar...and the reason why I'm still Alive. Respect.
Exactly. I always wondered how you make a 3 chord progression sound so beautifully and interesting. This is the first video that has demonstrated the layering technique so clearly. This is what I love about music ( once you can play a bit, have learnt the notes on the frets, know scales , are comfortable exploring the relationships - I am just starting it feels like ) you can wrap a simple song with a gorgeous arrangement....all by making love to your guitar😀
"There is no money to be made past the third fret." After playing guitar for more that 15 years, an experienced guitarist tells the truth about the music of today.
This video was such a bliss to watch. No fancy effects, no fancy script, no cinematic editing, just two immensely talented musicians having a great time. Made me love you guys even more.
This is a must see video for every new guitar player out there. Paul and Steve really teach us how simple can be sublime, and that is great for musicians that are struggling to improve they're craft. Thank you
So, Sammy G's real name is Steve...I guess the "Sam" was just short for Samurai. This never occurred to me before. I kept waiting for Sammy G to look at Paul and say, "who the hell is Steve?"
Adding those "sixths" amongst chords (that you guys talk about around 15:30) is probably the single best tip I've ever come across to make someone playing chords on acoustic sound better (especially when unaccompanied by a second guitarist). It's made me experiment with double stops of all different kinds too. Thankyou so much for that Sammy G and Paul Davids! I heard it here first!
This is inspiring. My friend and I are in the process of writing an album. We’ve found it difficult to mix two acoustic guitars. This video could not have been released at a better time.
Two of my absolute favorite UA-camrs at the same time. I love your guys dynamic so much. In spite of everything going on in the world your music brought a genuine smile to my face. I thank both of you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do. Much love guys, and rock on
Great video. So many options playing arpeggios over chords and tricks like hammer-ons, lifts, minor/major harmony, and open chords...Well done guys 🎸🎶🎵🎼
I like watching you two guys play and obviously hearing it. All the fancy tricks you do played at the right time during a song could be magical. Keef Richards did great intros but never too busy for other parts to come in and compliment. Have a nice feeling watching your video. Thanks
You guys really work well together. I enjoyed this. I'm pretty advanced but as you know your never to advanced to go back to basics over and over again
@@passingFable that is my favourite chord progression. Going dominant then resolving at the 6 th and then creating a beautiful loop by adding a subdominant add the end by playing the 4 th.
You two have great chemistry. Great sounds and very educational, will be sending this to the rhythym player in my band. Perhaps this can tame him some lol

What a MASTERCLASS. I am a lead guitarist and I'm really working on being conscious of the chordal movement I am playing over rather than just the key. This was very insightful! Amazing video, thank you both.
The way Samurai's upstroke accents Paul's lead at the end of the phrase around 9:46 is just so damn perfect! That is such a great use of rhythm guitar to complement the lead that went completely unmentioned.
I could listen to you two jam and bounce ideas off of each other all day. Not only was the playing ecstacy to my ears, but seeing how simple ideas and simple playing between two people can sound a million times better than a wall of sound. I need more of this in my life. Paul and Sammy, you guys freaking rock and thank you for all of the knowledge and good vibes.
I'm an older (66) full time beginner and can't tell you how much it means to see the simplest of chords and progressions sound so beautiful. So many times UA-cam videos show some great stuff that claim to be easy but really aren't for a true beginner. I'll study this video for a long time. Thank you.
i really like it when one of your notifications pops up on my email,,as i always learn something interesting ,,and now you have introduced us all to the samurai guitarist,,i have subscribed,,,so a big thanks for taking the time to post all the interesting theory with out making it boring or to advanced for a hobbyist like myself,,,cheers from the land downunder
6:43 The E , A and B with only holding the D & G strings and moving up the frets to get Asus2 @ fret 2, Bsus4/A or B7sus4 @ fret 4 and E5/A or Esus4 @ fret 9 are the chords one of my friends showed me. He also said it was hid favourite chords that Esus4 @ 9 and the Bsus4 @ 4. Once he showed me, I started using it too. It sounds sooo nice.❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Always a pleasure to hang out and play some music with you Pauly D! - Sammy G

Always love hearing you play, dude. This whole video sounded great!
My two UA-cam guitar guru guides.
I have that same mahogany Orangewood acoustic(Sammy G.)....it's a damn fine guitar for the $....
The greatest cross-over humanity could ever ask for
Agreed
The two nicest people I've ever encountered. This content is almost too wholesome. Lmao
Much better crossover than Marvel Studio will ever produce

We love both of you
Paul Davids!! love all of your videos!!
What guitar is paul using?
I love both of you guys, but together its magic. This is so inspiring. Thank you both!
I could listen to you two all night. That was frickin awesome. Sammy g getting a sub as well now. Well done guys..
The two dislikes must be Steve and Paul trying to stay humble 😂
Steve and Paul must have a combined 23 accounts then
Eli Warner oh no, got here earlier before the copycats and the wannabes hopped on the bandwagon 😜👍🏻
Kevin Michael lol yeah 😂
Couldn't agree more with you...lol
Kevin Michael well... there are 69 dislikes now... I wonder if @davie504 has something to do with this 🤔
This whole video seems so smooth and natural. I love seeing other people write together, especially when they have this easy chemistry. Beautiful!

or at least basic knowledge of theory
Even a little bit of music theory can go a long way.
Holy shit yes
@Peter Martins don't forget trying to move those basic chord shapes all over the neck, adding open strings here and there :)
Thats really what music theory is.... the language in which musician speak to each other
What these Guys are doin' in this video, is the reason why i love Music, why i fell in Love with playing the Guitar...and the reason why I'm still Alive. Respect.

Paul David seems like a guy who would cry looking at the sunset 😂😂. Love his videos
Simple,Sweet,Beautiful. Thanks Paul and Steve.Very thought provoking.
That was absolutely delightful. Awesome chemistry you two have and totally natural as well, we need more of this!
YES the chemistry between 'm is amazing. Too bad one lives in Canada and the other in Holland. They are an amazing duo
I love how simple and chill they are, just casually popping out bangers together ❤️
Wait, his name is Steve?
haha my thoughts exactly
Wait until Paul reveals his real name is Joost.

It is very important to me that you two do this stuff Way more often. Then put all your noodling on Spotify. Please and thank you.

I would love to see more collabs from you man! 2 very melodic geniuses making music is quite a treat
09:51 did paul just kill Sammy's Vibe 😂😂
Fr lmao, I would pay top dollar to hear the rest of that solo
Two amazing guitarists in one video! Superb!
Great video. So many options playing arpeggios over chords and tricks like hammer-ons, lifts, minor/major harmony, and open chords...Well done guys 🎸🎶🎵🎼
I just got the feeling that I know Paul since my childhood, being friends for ever, as all sounds (and looks) so familiar. Well done, guys.
I like watching you two guys play and obviously hearing it. All the fancy tricks you do played at the right time during a song could be magical. Keef Richards did great intros but never too busy for other parts to come in and compliment. Have a nice feeling watching your video. Thanks
So just imagine these two on guitar, Adam Kneely on bass, and Mary Spender singing.
Staaaphh! I can only handle so awesomeness. 🤩
You guys really work well together. I enjoyed this. I'm pretty advanced but as you know your never to advanced to go back to basics over and over again
“Tell me you’re going to an A”
To be honest that was not that hard of a guess, a lot of songs are based on those four chords in that particular order ;-)
So satisfying to recognize he was going into it with Sammy G!!
@@passingFable that is my favourite chord progression. Going dominant then resolving at the 6 th and then creating a beautiful loop by adding a subdominant add the end by playing the 4 th.

Now throw Mary Spender's sultry smooth voice in there somewhere!
Wow, this is my favorite video of yours so far! Love to see you both just jamming and having fun together.
You two have great chemistry. Great sounds and very educational, will be sending this to the rhythym player in my band. Perhaps this can tame him some lol
Beautiful harmonies ♥, also, as a czech, im very proud to see you playing one of the Furch guitars.
“Think about what the bass is doing and make bass lines with my chord progressions” some John frusciante wisdom right there
Johnny has that luxury tho cuz Flea rarely ever plays conventional stuff
Guitarists just wanting to be bassplayers 😏
Or maybe literally every bassist's basics

Crazy the magic that happens when you put 2 masters of their craft in a room for 15 minutes
Lovely how you guys demonstrate that good sound is not at all about making things complicated!

He was so ready for the rest of the shred too
dont play solo over lyrics ,,, goes the other way to ,,, dont do talking over a solo and stop playing , we prob all did this 🤔
Lol, yes. And the irony is that Paul was getting into it too, started laying down a solo... AND STOPPED! 😝
