    i noticed you're having a video issue (the green-screen is reflecting off the background, and giving you cool green hair and glowing white shirt). if you can either put more distance between you and the BG, or dim the lights that are hitting the green-screen, OR change the angle the lights which you are pointing onto your green screen (all the get less light spilling from the BG), then it may help. That was my experience with green-screening. anyways, thanks for another informative vid!

    If, like me, you're interested in having access to your location timeline in Google Maps, you don't want to turn off location history.
    Also, preferred network depends on your carrier. I have a Google Unlocked Pixel 5 on Verizon, and my choices under that setting are "Global", "LTE/ CDMA", and "LTE / GSM / UMTS"
    Mine is set on Global.

    • @geico1975
      @geico1975 2 роки тому

      Other than what two things you mentioned would you recommend all other changes from the video? I only ask because I have the same phone as you with Verizon, so I kept mine on Global, I don't care about my location timeline and I adopted all other changes, but I'm hoping my phone will still work for me:)

    • @fzdolfan
      @fzdolfan 2 роки тому +1

      @@geico1975 well, keep in mind that things have changed since this video was made. For one, there actually is much more 5G coverage now, so leaving your phone on Global is a good choice.
      Also, I believe in Android 12 that most permissions are set to denied or ask permission by default. Also, I'm pretty sure that permissions are removed automatically for apps that don't get used by you for a while. That being said, if you want to go through the list of apps and change permissions, there's no ill effects of that. Like the video said, you'll be alerted if something needs permission.
      I'm not sure about the WiFi and Bluetooth scanning, especially the latter. It seems to me that if you turn off Bluetooth scanning, every time you turn on your wireless earpiece/earbuds you'll have to manually connect it. But I could be wrong about that.
      As for personalized ads, I don't know, they could be right that you "might" see less ads, but if what the settings say is correct, if I'm going to see ads anyway, I'd rather they be ads that interest me. But I think most people ignore all ads anyway, so from a privacy standpoint it's probably better to disable that.

    • @geico1975
      @geico1975 2 роки тому +1

      @@fzdolfan Alright, very great. I'll keep an eye on the blue tooth scanning too. I think I'll notice it pretty quick because I'm pretty sure that's how it connects with my vehicle. Usually it automatically connects. Guess I'll find out.

    Turning off google location history will make it 99% harder to find a lost phone.... If you really are worried about a simple service logging where you've been so be it, but if your phone ever gets stolen, you have a high chance of opening location history and practically see the path the thief took your phone to....

    • @PayetteForward
      @PayetteForward  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for your comment. We certainly wouldn’t advocate turning off Find My Device, which precisely locates lost devices. And, according to Google, when you turn off location history, “Your settings for other location services on your device, like Google Location Services and Find My Device, are not changed.”

    • @niiiiiix

      @@PayetteForward find my device has been known to only show the very last known location or none at all but if you turn off location history, you lose the feature of seeing if your phone has been walked around, driven, where it's been. It helped solidify a police report for my phone carrier to issue a stolen replacement for an expensive phones with location history showing my phone being carried and walked to a drug house miles away. Paper trail helps and if it's free, heck.

    You won't see fewer ads. Ads will still display/run but now they won't be relevant to u. Data collection by ads is only demographic and product data. If u use social media, that co knows way more about u and your life than any advertiser ever will and should be a lot more concerning.

      That's what people forgot about ads. What personalized ads means ad company will make a profile for you (the user) on what website you frequently visit and suggest ads based on that. If you opt out of it you'll just get ads based on the majority of other users of the particular website you visit.

I can change the volume without seeing the screen, but I can't always get the google assistant to reset brightness back up where I can see the screen. It doesn't happen all the time, but the more I use it & the more I'm outdoors in bright daylight, the more likely it seems to be. It renders the phone utterly useless.

    When you turn off personalized ads, it does not lower the quantity of the ads, and it has nothing to do with companies bidding on you, that's different. It simply makes it feed you random ads instead of targeting you specifically. I would prefer the targeted ads honestly.

    Bruh check out Google Opinion Rewards, all that tracking your tripping about in privacy you can get paid for on the data shared from searches, youtube videos etc, literally get $0.25-$1 per survey that's like 3 questions, or taking a pic of reciept, confirm a location you were or weren't at, drop pin on door entrance to building with multiple recommendations. Or watch 2, 10 second clips of youtube videos and critique what opinions you feel about them lol, missing out

    • @jamesb5737
      @jamesb5737 3 роки тому +1

      But doesn't this defeat the purpose of turning off apps spying on you?
      The rewards work the same way advertisers do. (Google charges companies to pay for advertising. BUT Google has to collect data on you (which costs them money to discover things about you). For pennies you make there, you give Google information that may not seem personal, but helps them better target you.
      I heard that Google tracking can get you into a location (strip mall) but doesn't know if you went to JC Pennys, Target, Walmart, or Mcdonalds. So it asks "were you at the store we want to send ads to you about?" and dates, times, etc. to know when best to advertise you to that exact store.
      As seen in a comic strip. a pig and a chicken are talking about how good it is. Free food, free house, etc. The caption: If it is free, maybe you are NOT the consumer, maybe you ARE the PRODUCT being sold".

      @@melanien.1883 you will need to do your research. I love my Pixel 5 by Google. It depends on what you want to do with it.
      Android is the software that runs the phone. There are many models out there.
      When I was looking at Pixel 5 I was also looking at the "One plus 8" phone. I heard good things about both. The 1+8 has a bigger screen, heavier and slightly larger battery but in the end I stuck with Pixel 5 because of the "screen call" feature (an unknown caller (and we get this lots) can be passed to Google assistant. The caller is greeted by Google assistant and asks them what they want. As they speak you see it on the screen and read it. There are Options like "tell me more" so you can "talk to" the caller or there is a "goodbye" If telemarketer.
      For that reason I got the pixel. But it only works in Canada/USA (if changing languages the feature is turned off).
      But please do your research. It is the only way to be happy with what you get.

      Don't do it! I went from Apple to Google Pixel & curse this phone every day. Everything on iphone was intuitive & easy - nothing is intuitive on pixel - you have to Google how to do even the most basic functions like finding settings.
      Pixel takes hours to recharge if your battery goes flat (& won't turn on during this period or sound any alarms so basically useless). This "quirk" was intentional to save the battery but leaves you without a phone or alarms for hours.
      Brightness defaults to dim which is impossible to fix as you can't see anything on the phone to figure out how to increase it.
      It has no settings app on home screen ( or calculator or clock apps).
      No icon on home screen warning you if phone is on do not disturb - you have to just remember do not disturb is on.
      Time on home screen is so tiny you need a magnifying glass to read it & no options to increase font.
      Volume is a pain because increasing volume using the button on side may not work because of another volume control that controls it.
      I could go on. I managed because Pixel was my secondary phone but now it's my only phone & I regret it every day.

      Thanks for your comment, but we don't entirely agree. First, a website owner has control over the categories of ads that run on their website - more about this here: support.google.com/admanager/answer/2541069
      Ad "traffickers" on quality sites don't allow ads about CBD, sexual content, or anything like that because advertisers like Red Lobster and Adidas won't pay to advertise alongside them. It's not as much of a wild west in the ad world as it used to be. Sites that have Red Lobster ads simply won't display ads in sensitive categories, and vice versa.
      Additionally, webmasters - including us - often will choose to run "house" ads instead of accepting an extremely low CPM for low-quality ads. We set a CPM "floor" on PayetteForward.com, for example, and instead of running low quality ads to users, we run our own ads to this UA-cam channel. We'd rather promote ourselves than show people anything low-quality. And for people on our websites, the "ads" to our own content are very relevant.
      The truth is that people who turn this setting off may see fewer ads. Ad networks would never tell people that, but there comes a point when advertisers simply stop bidding on traffic. It might take a while, but it does happen.
      Moral of the story: It's a more complicated issue than most people realize. I appreciate your comment and thank you for the opportunity to respond!

      I agree with Isaac, In my experience ,Turning off personalisation doesn't remove add space, you just get spammed with Forex and low quality ads.

      Could be a number of things. Signal strength, version of blue tooth different, quality of speakers (Are they the dollar store speakers or the name brand with quality parts).
      You can troubleshoot by seeing if it is just one phone to the speakers, or if multiple devices have same issue with the speakers (if it is just the one phone, then you'll have to look deeper at incompatibilities, settings, etc. on the phone). If all devices do the same then you know to replace the speakers. (again it can also be distance from device so rty moving the phone beside the speakers to see if it clears it up.
      could also be signal noise (interference on the same frequency in your area) does it do the same everywhere the speakers are or just at the one location?
      some things to try. Just need to troubleshoot.

    Turning off personalized ads doesn't do what you think. All's it does is give you a random ad id. And that random ID stays once you turn it off. And yes your bank needs access to contacts to know your phone number. And the shopping apps use the camera for UPC or selling things to upload photos. And stopping usage and diagnostics turn off for system and that is it. All apps have their diagnostics, Google analytics. Location is needed for many things, like UA-cam music knowing where you are and time of day, to give you the mixes it recommends. And wifi and Bluetooth scanning is for your benefit. It looks for your car Bluetooth or household appliances. Location history is for you to know where you are. No app can install a third party app by itself. This is the most uninformed video I seen in a while. Install third party apps is for apps not in the Google play store. So much disinformation. And 5G prefer is like LTE preferred. If it doesn't see it, which your phone checks them constantly, so if it doesn't see 5G, it doesn't use it. Doesn't matter preferred anything.

    • @xenofastiq
      @xenofastiq 3 роки тому +1

      I don't think you fully understood the point of the video. A lot of the apps and such they used and talked about here were examples. Turning off personalized ads basically keeps companies from using information, like the things you search, etc., to personalize ads for you. For the most part, there isn't really a negative effect to it, but some people don't want personalized ads. And the point with location. They literally mentioned that you can decide yourself whether you feel certain apps really do need location all the time or not. Most apps DO NOT need to know your location ALL THE TIME. So you can either limit it to only while the certain app is in use, or if it's not a requirement for the app to work, then deny it location. Wifi and Bluetooth scanning can be beneficial, but it still isn't needed at all, and turning them off literally won't affect much anyways. Location History also isn't exactly a needed thing. Some people don't care about having a history of places they've been, so it's perfectly to fine to turn off the history as it's not going to affect much either. And of course the worst point of all that you've mentioned. Did you even watch the video? Yes, if you're somewhere where 5G isn't available, your phone is still going to connect to the 4G network. But if you are somewhere where 5G is available, a LOT of times it'll connect to 5G, while having way slower speeds than even 4G. Setting your preferred network to 4G can still be very beneficial as well when your 5G speeds are absolutely terrible and you know your 4G speeds are much better.

      @@xenofastiq Nah he's right, this video has lots of flaws. But the 12 year olds that make up their audience won't notice and will thank them endlessly for "great" tips.

    • @xenofastiq
      @xenofastiq 3 роки тому

      @@zachscott8795 Yes it has flaws, but a lot of what they were saying was more like recommended as well. They clearly stated in some that it's up to you how much you wanna limit certain, like location history, location in general. Ads personalization is something that ultimately won't help too much since youll still get ads anyways but at least your information wouldn't be gathered and uses to then display what these companies believe to be relevant ads. When we're talking about limiting the selling of our data, technically these are in fact quite some great tips. The reason is because when stuff like these are free, then the consumers become the product. Meaning Google ultimately makes more money off of having ads directed towards you vs their individual services.

      Pixel 4 does not have 5G. The only 5G Pixel phones are the 5 and the 4a 5G. Global basically means though that when you're in places where a CDMA network isn't available, you may be able to roam on a GSM network.
