      Got a Samsung A13 5G and under the Other privacy settings, after the Samsung items and under the Google settings, there's not a "Google personalization button", that you show is above the "Android System Intelligence" button. Where else could it be? Or did it somehow disappear when adjusted the other settings?

      What does one do, about an employer app, that one must have, to clock in and out...which I didn't realize at the time, they think they have to my location when I only want to check my schedule?....I'm a caregiver for elderly...this really bothers me...I have nothing to hide, it's just the principle of the thing....I dont feel they have the right to know where I am, when I'm only checking my schedule.

    I have only used a smart phone for five years, and don't use computers. It took me months to realize there were settings within settings, permissions, etc., but I am using a Samsung S10 that's around 4 years old, and using many of the battery saving tweaks and tricks you both recommend. No joke, I am using my phone all day long, with videos, streaming, texts, emails and social media, etc., and my phone often shows on-screen times of seven and a half to a bit over 8 hours on any given day!
    I have impressed some serious phone techies who are much more experienced than I!
    My only problem is when I optimize all of my apps at one time, and I go back to that setting just minutes later, all of those blue 'on' toggle lights are no longer lit up.
    You guys are the best, and have fun, too! 🎯

  • @JessicaFEREM
    @JessicaFEREM 2 роки тому +578

    The most important thing to do is when you set up your phone, any optional checkbox, uncheck it unless you absolutely need it.
    A lot of these settings are right there in the setup process.
    And I always think, any data being processed or sent off could mean extra battery life, even it a little.
    The location data is the absolute worst at draining your battery quickly, as well as the Google play services, so tighten down the permissions for that service.

    • @okd521
      @okd521 2 роки тому +54

      If you do this the phone tells you it will misbehave if you deny it permissions. Often later after denying a phone permissions when I come back it's turned on and the toggle is grayed out so I no longer have the option to turn it off. Many different settings that Google help instructions tell me that I have simply don't exist when you go to the spot Google says they're at. I've completely given up attempting to control the settings on my phone because it seems impossible to access the settings needed. Don't tell me that I can reach these settings when I spent weeks working every day for hours and never, and I mean never being able to access many of the settings that Google help said it was directing me to.

      Now I have Gmail telling me I'm out of storage & I don't even use my Gmail acct because I had to make this account because they told me I had to because it is a new type of device (I still don't know why anyone that already has an email acct would have to open another email account, regardless of a new device, since I have no need for a 2nd email). I've went through 4 phones since July because I have been hacked. I ended up completely changing provider, number and new phone. They have me linked to my old account. Please know rebooting sometimes re-initializes or re-installs "Pre-Programmed" applications originally installed on the device!!!!!! I have uninstalled progs with no problems and "for me" they have not re-appeared ! Please keep those things in mind with android and different devices! I dont think it is the provider as much as it is the progs on it ! Sometimes finding out WHAT APPLICATION? is causing the issue will correct anything you have gone through ! I hope this helps ! I straight up disabled everything Google (and would have installed a unGoogled OS if this phone would let me), and have locked down everything else as much as I can without straight up destroying functionality. That, plus not using social media, I get 48+ hours of battery life. On a five year-old phone.
    Outside of UA-cam, I'm moving away from Google as much as possible. A very important developer option that was missed in this video is changing the default USB configuration. By default, android allows any USB connection effectively full access to your phone. This can mean plugging in your phone to a computer at work to get a quick charge can allow your work computer's security software to run a full scan of your device and install management apps, or even worse if you use a public charger at an airport or something then it can automatically install malware to your device. All this can be prevented by changing the default usb behavior to "charge only" and you tap a notification to change it when you'reat home on your personal computer and whatnot.
    Also, it's notable with these settings changes that quite frequently android updates will re-enable many of these settings or install new apps and automatically hand over admin priviledges to the new app (when you can't disable system updates ability to install apps) so you really have to go through this process every few months to check what new BS android has done to your phone. One of the more recent android updates on samsung has made "smart switch" permanently installed, it cannot be disabled, and it has access to absolutely everything on your device, all of which was done without any warning to the user.

      @@beautifulflower67 Thank you for your input.
      I'm aware of the new 'toggle button' that appears in the pull down menu on our phones once we've entered developer mode & I've learned what it affects on my Android phone when turning it on, and off.
      However what I'm referring to is how they had us push on the build number 7 times, and we all get the message 'you are now a developer' and so what I was asking in my original question, is about completely exiting developer mode. For example, once I followed their instructions by pushing the build number 7 times, I became a developer. Then after deciding how I wanted to proceed & configure my phone settings; I was curious and went back to the build number, thinking maybe if I pushed it 7 times again it would exit developer mode. But it does not.
      In fact when I tried it, I only pushed on the build number once (after already being a developer) and I instantly got a message telling me that 'you are already a developer'
      This is the context of what I was asking about in my original comment/question; What if I want to exit developer mode, could it possibly cause issues with the phone or whatever; anything I don't like .. then if so, how to turn it off, and or if there is a way to exit the developer mode?
      Also to add: I did find out that entering developer mode caused my phone to change some settings that I did not change while following along with the video. Nothing major so far, but one example is that it changed my settings for notifications for text messages and made my phone vibrate as well as my notification tone. And I noticed that right away bcuz I don't ever use a vibrate option for notifications.

    The info you have shared is great. A couple of issues...
    1. My phone screen is slightly different from yours. It is sometimes difficult to locate the screen you are on. My privacy & permissions are in the same place.
    2. It would be helpful for you to share which apps we should NOT mess with. I have an app called Android System Intelligence. Sounds important...yes or no? Can I turn off permissions to that? It sounds like that would solve a lot of problems OR erase my entire phone system...lol.
    3. Sometimes, I turn off permissions, and I receive a message that says my phone may NOT function properly if I do not give the app permission to allow access. How serious are those messages?
    4. If I accidently turn something off that I should have, is there a way to restore the settings to what they were previous to the 97 changes I just made? I can possibly remember all the changes I made, and I would not know which one to fix to correct an error. Any further instructions?
