After one year the Panasonic Lumix lx10/lx15 still is a great camera. Perhaps one of the best point and shoot vlogging cameras out there. Some even say it was the best vlogging camera 2018.
But it also has some not so minor drawbacks.
This video is also covering some "hacks" and modifications to the lx15 that make your life with it easier. (Including the Casey Neistat Cello Tape on the Screen Trick, that I can't seem to find the link to. So if any of You know which one of his vlogs that was, please post in the comments.)

Can i use it as webcam?? I have been using zoom lately and i have a capture card that i think could possibly work with the lx10 to use as webcam.
No. Neither LUMIX tether nor the HDMI port support live output.
@@philipp7pc thanks for a clear answer. Other youtuber that reviewed the camera can't answer it.
@@Titancarreon You're welcome. I can't tell if that's a firmware issue or a general wiring thing. But USB seems for charging / USB card reader functionality only. HDMI outputs recorded material only.
@@Titancarreon You could "like" the video so more people see this. ;]
Great honest review, and the music was a relief to all the usual fancy triphop jazzy stuff. Thanks 🙏🏼 😊
People like you who do reviews without being paid are true heroes ! Keep up the quality contents mate !
Thanks man! The true payment is your acknowledgment.
I've been watching some LX10 reviews and this is one of the most useful one! thanks.
Tanks! Hope it helps.

UA-cam has some weird algorithms. I have probably watched every LX10 video review before and after I purchased one 1 year ago and this video never came up until now. Thank you for this video and for the work you put into it.
kRx md well, thanks for watching.
It is a pretty cool camera for the money. Let’s see if the next iteration will be with a mic jack.
Great review very detailed and you were on point, thank you.
Thanks for telling it like it is, especially after having used it for a year. I bought mine for still photography. I seldom if ever use video, let alone vlogging. I got mine - just arrived yesterday - because I wanted a camera that would be with me all the time, like my cellphone. I love my cellphone, but I wanted a bigger sensor. What I didn’t realize was how much more this camera can do than a cellphone, and it’s usable one-handed. I think this and it’s companion, the Fuji XF10, are my go-to cameras unless I have an assignment that calls for bigger format and more deliberate work. I have MFT digital and medium format film cameras for that.
Some very good tips.
Thanks.
Good video. I like how having used the camera for some time and presenting its numerous shortcomings, still recommend it as the best option for particular scenarios.
I have it for a year now, using it in low light is awesome!.. agree with you it is slippery ...
First of all, what a great practical video, thank you for it! I will definitely make some of your adjustments and tip and tricks you showed in this video. Very smart and usefull indeed, thank you. 👍
It's 2023 and I just bought this camera in the Czech Republic for 13.000 CZK, which is around 520 Euros. I was looking for a versatile pocket camera that can be one-in-all solution for cheap but still good street photo and videologing. I want to use this camera also for my tennis lectures on a tripod for shot and technique analysis. I was surprised that on todays market there are really not many options when it comes to all-in-one small pocket cameras. Only Sony has some similar cameras, but they cost a lot more and I don't think it's worth it. I'm also a big fan of Panasonic products. I have Pan. TV and also videocamera so this one little thing will join my Panasonic family very soon. I hope it will be an useful and fun to use companion for my weekly photo/video capture. Thank you once again and keep up the good work! Greetings from Budweis.
I have the ZS100 and have been happy as i record live music sets w a small external mic - but i used to have the LX7 and loved the slightly smaller profile ...at this point the LX10 would be a side grade, does anyone know if a new model is coming out?
Nice... just bought one waiting for delivery!
Have Fun with it!
I've been looking for the tripod all around the Internet, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere - years have passed since your review. Could you please recommend some tripod alternatives; always-on tripods like the JOBY one, that I could find nowadays?
Great review. Good honest and to the point. You did not touch on the macro-capabilities of this unit...perhaps because you don’t use it for those features much, so I understand. But would be great to hear your 2cents on the matter. I am looking at getting one mostly for its macro features, and also because it does the rest so well.
You're right. I don't use it a lot. Especially not in photo mode (I'm a very video centered personality as others have pointed out already.
It focuses pretty close (around 3cm) in the widest zoom. But then the focus plane becomes a pretty convex thing and the falloff to the sides is pretty unbearable.
In my taste without any knowledge about the importance of macro photography this is not a great camera to get very close to your subject.
philipp7pc i fully understand. Thanks again.
A very detailed review, what is the bitrate of write 4K video?
They claim it's 100Mbit/s. Haven't checked that though.
best review ever
Got mine today :). The first thing I did was a fake vlog (= not published; flog?) as I will use it for instruction videos, as well as photography of course. Thanks for the review.
Message me when You put the first one out there.
@@philipp7pc I'll let you know.
thx for this video. is there a way to record longer videos and get rid of the 15min limitation ? or even to attach an external mic trough micro usb or even trough hdmi?
Thanks for watching!
Haven’t found a hack or so to get rid of the 15‘ Limit in 4K or the 29:59 Limit in HD.
Regarding the mic jack, looking at canon and Sony i would expect Panasonic to include one in the next iteration of this camera that should be coming soon. But no hacks so far for the usb as I’m aware. In special situations I just use a Zoom recorder or my iPhone with an external mic.
@@philipp7pc thank you very much my friend! greets from switzerland
Great camera. I bought a micro muff, ND Filter, and silicone case off Amazon. Best camera for the price. I'd buy it over the Sony RX series anyday, and it does not overheat like the RX series as well.
Same here. I sat on the fence for a long while thinking of waiting fro the g7xm3 then to come out or go with the LX10. I just cannot justify getting the Rx100V back then for over $1000 for a camera that has no touch screen after 5 iterations. Glad I went with the LX10 then and the savings of $400 (from instead getting the RX100V) I bought a GoPro6 back then.
I’ve got two now. They still seem like the best value right now.
Oh, and thanks for watching!
Where i can find good micro muff for this camera? cannot find them on amazon... :(
THANKS FOR YOUR INFORMATION BECAUSE I WAS IN DIFFICULT BETWEEN THIS CAMERA AND THE CANON G7X M2 !
The canon still might be a good choice if you need a mic input. (Remember, this was made before the mk2 came out.)
Sorry to push you back into limbo ;]
@@philipp7pc yes your right, i continued to find out the best for me and in generally, finally i bought the Canon G7x m ll, i think that know this Canon is the very best Camera for all things you want to do especially traveling !!! thanks a lot :))
@@philipp7pc The MK2 hasn't got a mic input, the mk3 has. But I hear that the mk3 has other issues, incl an underwhelming autofocus.
From what I read from a couple of owners of the LX10, there is more sharpness in stills at the long end than there is with the Sony RX100 lV. Have you compared the two and what was your conclusion?
I didn’t compare the stills of both cameras unfortunately.
My subjective take from filming with both was that the Sony looks a little different in it’s colors. But I would need a longer try with both to really talk bout details.
I think the main advantage of this camera is diaphragm 1.4, which allow us to do photo in LOW LIGHT. All other advantages are additional.
What is the approximate, CONTINUOUS video recording time in HD mode? Great review, thanks a lot !!!
Thanks for watching.
Here in Germany it’s 29 minutes and 59 seconds. But that’s not a technical limit. It’s a legal thing for video vs. photo cameras.
@@philipp7pc Thank you Philip, great videos!!
I'm trying to help a friend who is electronically challenged set up his LX10 for "point and shoot" video using the auto ISO setting. I'm helping him by phone as he isn't near me. He says there is no Auto ISO option showing up. I have him on Shutter priority so according to the manual, AUTO ISO should be there. Any thoughts?
Can’t seem to be able to rebuild this. „Auto“ is there. Sorry.
@@philipp7pc Yes, it is on mine also...
the AUTO ISO should be there if he is in P, A, S mode in video mode (the top dial is set on M with video); only in M mode is the AUTO ISO not in the options of the ISO bar/scale.
Agreed, lots of things you can accidentally touch, but couldn't you simply hold the tripod instead?
You could.
But I like to carry this thing around as the small point n shoot it is. So I only got that foldout thing on it. Can’t really hold that. ;]
your english is great
Hi Philipp7pc,
Just want ask, does LX15 has at least 28mm wide angle in 4K video mode?? LX15 has F1.4 is really a excellent plus for night shooting.
Can you check if it can shoot 4K with "PopArt filter" ? Or may be you did not use it at all.
I had an idea, can you use a power-bank to charge the battery and shoot while charging. I can do it with my DJI Pocket without problem.
I use LX100 for its 4/3 chip, (Just order the LX100 M2 for €709-, good deal ! ) but have always problem with dust going inside the lens. So I have to sell it on eBay after Garantie.
The music you choose is really excellent !! The mood, sound, picture is in perfect harmony. Thanks for making this video !!
Greeting from Bavaria !!
PS. I found it on other video. 4K filming has only 36-108mm which i really useless for me. Things is done for me. I stayed with my LX100 M2.
Is it possible you are the one I met in a McFit a few years ago and had a small talk. This person travel between Holland and Germany ???
Hi! Thanks for watching.
Yes, it's kind of narrow in the 4K crop down. But still quite open. So for many purposes it's fine.
I am in Germany right now, so maybe we've met before. (Don't remember though, sorry. I'm getting old. ;)
I added some fluff to the top and a grip to the side and sunglasses on the front to block light and a quadcopter on the bottom and a net to catch it if it falls and a waterproof case in case it falls into a pool
What about the bush fires? How can You not protect it from the bush fires. This seems so irresponsible. 8-@
would it be worth it to buy one of these 2 cameras in 2022?
I don't think so. It's pretty dated right now.
Does it provide clean hdmi for streaming?
No. It's only for playback
Lens noise I think is if you have constant AF switch on ? I think - fiddled around and got rid off it - the sound from the camera is still good
Will have to look into that again. Sound is actually incredible regarding the two tiny holes it goes through. Still horrible compared with an external mike solution. And the compressor leaves some odd noise on it. But still totally usable.
@@philipp7pc I need to invest in a ND filter and magsafe - very bright here in Australia
It’s so worth it. 1.4 has such a nice dof
That was my thought too.
What camera would you recommend for vlogging in 2021? Thx!
Trick question. ;]
That's a hard one. We are still waiting for the follow up on the lx10. (Better AF, mic in, internal ND...) and canon and Sony are either too expensive or just not a real step forward (1080p).
So right now, I would wait and use what you have.
@@philipp7pc Love your videos. I will wait and keep using phone and a5000. Thx you Philipp!
Just be careful on the on/off switch - my lens opened up in the pouch and malfunctioned - on/off fixed it
I got the original pouch/case, and it's practically impossible to start it by mistake in that one. A bit bulky though and rather expensive.
Do u drill thru camera .when fixing muffin on cheers council kev uk
Hi. Thanks for watching. The wind muff is applied with double sided tape. No drilling.
Have been looking at this camera but the real turnoff is the noise in videos. All the other issues I can love with. Mayby some kind of external sound would do.
Thanks for watching.
Yeah, well, it kinda defeats the purpose of a small camera to have to carry around a Zoom that's twice the size. 🤓
Philip - I forgot to mention I purchased a separate Panasonic battery charger for the LX10 on eBay from the USA which solves the charging from the camera issue and is faster at charging and you can keep using the camera
An external charging bay for batteries? Made by Panasonic?
Yes, I got some of them. I don’t really trust the third party ones.
But better than nothing.
Still, you have to take the camera of the tripod and get the battery out then.
philipp7pc Yes bit of a design fault not sure if the canon g7x or Sony rx100 is the same for battery location - I’ve just ordered the lensmate filter adaptor as magfilter website appears to be no longer - also made up a dead cat windscreen to save some $ - want to get some more use out of the LX10 during daylight as in Australia it’s a bit like Spain very bright for video
philipp7pc If you want a better grip you can buy the Sony RX100 AG-R2 adhesive grip and with some trimming it fits perfectly to the LX10
Yes, all three cameras have that same stupid design flaw of the tripod fixture sitting right at the edge of the flap.
the 3rd party ones (separate batt charger) I got from amazon really works well. I have 3 OEM Panasonic Batteries from amazon when going out for a day of touring all fully charged the night before by the separate charger.
Anyone owning that camera had a trouble with the sound the camera makes? It sounds like a ventilation from the inside. Only when the lens is out. Some says the noise comes from the stabilisation or autofocus, but it sounds very noisy to be just that?
I just got that camera and I've had an hybrid one for years without any sound like that.
I might sound dumb but I'd really like to know if it is a normal thing.
x
It’s there on both of the ones I have. It’s very annoying and it only gets a little quieter when AF and stabilization are off.
I really don’t know what it is. But it’s many noises together.
Thanks Phılıps... Listened you all... İs Lx 15 tecgnology stiil New in 2023
I want to buy it now.. Pratic and cheap than others
Hi! Sorry for the delay... even in 2024 the lx15 is fine for most of what I do. I just wouldn't pay full price any more.
Why the disturbing background music ?
Good question. I just decided against music for the latest video in this moment. ;]
Philip came across this video from youtuber Matt Doddato who has some interesting settings for the LX10 from ua-cam.com/video/kZqpSshbfF4/v-deo.html - Ive taken up your recommendation and just installed the Lenmate adaptor with variable ND filter so I can wear this camera out best regards Bazz
You've really put me off the camera!
Oh. Did I? How?
@@philipp7pc The no charging while filming part did it for me. Makes it useless as a vlog camera tbh.
Uridium For vlogging it’s fine and portable (and the prize!) but as soon as you put it on a tripod it’s a piece of brick. That’s true. I still like it.
Always about video which I give zero fucks about
