  • This video is going over the layout of the Panasonic LX10. This is to help those who have purchased the camera, either to introduce them to the buttons and doors, or for someone who has already had the camera but needed a reminder. The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available settings and features!

    Outstanding video and I will tell you why. You speak clearly, slowly, and clearly explain the tech. With so many tutorials, the presenter just rushes through and you don't have time to absorb what they are saying, unless you pause, pause, pause. So Shutterbug 101, good job! Thank you. A new subscriber.

    Wow! This was the best tutorial for this camera I've seen. I just stumbled on your site and will follow you now as I seek to learn more about my LX10. I bought a manual for this camera and have seen other tutorials on line. But, yours is the best. You walked me through so many steps and functions that I will not, at last, start using it as I should. I have owned the LX3, and LX7, and regretted going to this more sophisticated model. But, now I am confident I can use this and appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Too bulky and I just feel I can't be bothered. So I was hoping the Lumix would give me the convenience of the compact but with more of the functionality of the SLR. Thank you for this great video -- solved so many questions I had while learning this new tech (I'm an old guy learning new tricks!) I have a great tip for others -- this camera is so tiny, shiny and slippery and has so many buttons I was clumsy and couldn't hold it without messing with the settings -- I purchased online (B&C or Amazon? @ $15) a perfect rubber coated special camera grip that makes it easy to hold and operate -- it has standard tri-pod mount and I added a soft rubber washer that grips the camera from spinning without cranking it too tight on the threads --- available at any hardware store.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 роки тому

      So it looks like the battery life is built to last up to 260 shots per charge, which is not a lot of time if left on for a large amount of time. However, you may be able to extend the life by keeping the LCD display off. Unfortunately, there are no AC adaption options and as much as I wish it had the charge as you go feature by micro USB, it doesn’t have that option either. Your best bet is to keep the LCD off and be prepared with another battery.

    thank you so much for doing this, its by far the best video/info for the lx10 that i have seen anywhere on the internet, have subscribed! Do you have any reccomendations on settings for food video/photography using this camera? Am trying to make some buzzfeed/tasty style videos and images

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 роки тому

      Lighting is everything with food! You will also need a tripod and I would shoot on your P or A mode and set your aperture to F/8.
      If you don't use a still life studio box for lighting, you will want 3 points of light for food, preferably LED.
      Look up lighting setups for product photography, and that will give you an idea. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thank you for tutorial, very useful to know the functions of the camera, I just bought it last December and I'm very happy with this camera. What would you recommend to have settings for B&W photos or tips? Thank you again!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 роки тому +1

      Settings will generally be the same as if you had it in color, it’s all about your goal (stopping/showing motion, capturing light, blurry/sharp background) and if you like how it looks on the screen at the exposure it recommends. Just keep in mind that if you capture your images in black and white, they will only stay that way if your shooting in JPEG. If you shoot in RAW, it will convert it back to color for you to control in editing.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  2 роки тому +1

      While Panasonic cameras have some editing options, like filters or even object removal, I have found that it asks A LOT of the processing power of the camera. Depending on the phone you have, iphones have pretty amazing editing tools, or even using the Adobe Lightroom app, and sending the photos to your phone via the app. That is personally what I would recommend!

    Love your review! Very informative. I am looking to buy a used LX10 and wondering if you how to check the shutter count? Thanks!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  2 роки тому

      With these cameras it can be tricky to get a for sure number due to the electronic shutter option this camera uses, however, you should be able to take a photo with the camera onto an SD card, put the SD card in your computer and google "Panasonic Shutter Count" and you should be able to find a site like camerashuttercount.com . Sometimes it cannot give you an answer due to the nature of the camera, but Panasonics are usually not difficult.

      Hello Aziz! Thank you for your kind comment! I am actually hanging out with my Panasonic Rep today so I thought I would let him answer your question. His recommendation would be to turn the stabilization off, if recording video whether on 4K or HD record on 30p, keep your autofocus at AFF, exposure mode on video at Shutter Priority at 60. Set the metering to evaluative metering and set the ISO when you get to the location by looking at the results on the screen.

      Arnab Banerjee you cannot use the 4K burst mode with the timer due to needing your finger pressed on the shutter button for the time you can’t to capture the burst. When it comes to point and shoot cameras, it is actually very simple. There is no way to internally clean this camera, but on the lens glass and viewing screen, you will use lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. On the rest of the body, you will use rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton cloth and some Q-Tips to get into some of the grooves.

    • @Shutterbug101

      If the camera does not allow you to go longer than 1 second, you will need to change the shutter setting in the menu. It is either set to MSHUTTER or ESHUTTER. Try switching it to the other option or set to Auto. Then you should be able to adjust the shutter speed up to 60 seconds long or BULB for a custom time.

    I desperately need your help. How do I change where the crosshairs are on the screen so I can focus on something particular without having to move the camera? I use the camera in an underwater housing for shooting fish and sometimes I want to focus on the fish's eye and not the middle of his body. The crosshairs only stay in the middle as I obviously can't use the touch screen underwater. I would like a specific video on how to set the function key for this option.

      Does your underwater housing allow you access to the directional buttons on the back?

      @@Shutterbug101 Hi! I'm interested in setting this camera up for using with my underwater housing as well. I am using the NA-LX10, a very popular housing. I used to know how to move the focus box (or cross hairs) to focus on the eye of the fish, but covid has kept me from diving for a while, and now I can't remember how to do it. I would LOVE it if you could do a comprehensive video on using the functions of the camera without the touch screen as it would apply to underwater use. Thank you!! Your video was most helpful for this complex little powerhouse camera!!!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 роки тому +2

      It is the picture quality that is grayed out? Very odd that it would be stuck in RAW. I would say go to your wrench tab (the one with the C) in the menu and reset your settings. The pro and con to these cameras is there are a LOT of features, which also means any one thing can lock up another.

I had to go to fn1 me u to set 4k on off so I can acess shutter mode to change it to allow me to go beyond 1 second. I took great pics of night sky at 4 seconds. Hello Tony! Yes, your shutter settings changed in your menu. If I recall, you will need to change it from electric shutter (ESHUTTER) to manual shutter (MSHUTTER) or the other way around. Let me know if you need help finding exactly where it is in the menu.

On the fn1 button I have 4k off, on shutter settings I put either on manual or electronic. My screen in camera shows settings at f1.4 and 4 seconds I set dial to. When I press shutter button it just takes a regular picture. Not like it did in the past where shutter would stay open 4 seconds. Have you checked to make sure your post focus mode is off?

    • @tonymadera3603
      @tonymadera3603 3 роки тому +1

      @@Shutterbug101 yes, I have post focus mode on off. But still when I go to manual setting and have f1.4 at 4 seconds then take the picture, the shutter still only comes out at 1/4 as it is noted on the pictures when I look at them in an app. So my thinking is that if the shutter wont stay open for more than 1 second regardless of what shutter setting I put it on, it might be affected by one of the settings that is on auto or on, even though I tried having shutter setting on manual or electronic.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 роки тому

      Check and see if your ISO is set to a low number or to Auto, if it is set to a high number it may limit your shutter speed. If this doesn’t work, you may need to reset the settings in the camera and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn’t, there may be something wrong with the camera. There is one big pro/con about these new cameras and that is that there are a LOT of options/features to change and that can stop other options from working the way you want them to so sometimes, it’s just best to reset.

      @Shutterbug101  3 роки тому

      I am having difficulty finding a way to check for any of the Panasonic point and shoots, but my rep said give this a try:
      Set dial to P>hold down the red record button and the up directional button at the same time while you turn on the camera>hold the red record button, the menu/set button, and the left directional button at the same time>an error code will appear and you will hold the record, menu and left button again> the number next to SHTCNT is your shutter count.
      To get your camera back to normal, turn your camera off. Hope this works!
