5:15 the reason why there is no texture visible on S20 ultra and OP8 Pro is that the background is simply out of focus. Remember - they have FAR bigger sensors than iphone and due to that way thinner depth of field. Thanks to that you also get natural looking bokeh without using portrait modes.
Considering price and performance, I think the best choice is OP8pro. Here in the Philippines, both iphone11pro and s20 ultra are priced around $1400 to $1450 (price leap for IP11pro compared to US pricing). So I think OP8pro will the better deal in the Philippines.
The iPhone has the best video. Recording capabilities especially the mic quality. And for human subjects IPhones also do a lot better with colors, skin, and overall balance. The 1+ is good when it comes to landscape photos as having the right balance of shadows and highlights in a scene . The S20 tbh for its price is the worst and most inconsistent overall out of all three. At night it’s pretty solid and does a good job with selfies but the inconsistency especially with video recording is just disappointing for a $1400 starting price phone. Overall I think the iPhone has the best camera capabilities in the most scenarios out of all 3.
Firstly , thanks for a great video ... lots of varied conditions and faces which is needed for a real comparison . Just one thought though , the night sky should look black in astrophotography ... it's a lot more realistic than the other grey images imo .
The issue with the S20 Ultra has nothing to do with the Exynos. I have the Snapdragon in mine, and the camera is abysmal. For a $1500 phone built around it's 4 cameras it is shockingly bad. I had to do a Skype call for broadcast TV with my Ultua mounted on a gimbal last night, and the Ultra just couldn't hold focus. Even when perfectly still, it kept hunting to find focus. I did the same shoot a week ago with my S10+ and it had no issues whatsoever. Based on all of this, I am returning my Ultra and considering the S20+, which I've read doesn't have any focusing issues.

I'm not understanding how Samsung spoke so highly of the Ultra's camera but the the daytime photos are dark and sometimes hazy. The shadows areas are crazy dark. The focusing issues. And dark scenes without night mode are trash yet it has a bigger sensor to light in more light. Turn on the night mode and is still gets destroyed by other phones. It looks bad. My S10+ looks better in a lot of cases. What is going on Samsung??
@@maverick4655 not really if you read anandtech's thorough review about its camera, it's the other way around but nevertheless, the post processing in both Snapdragon and Exynos is still shitty and Samsung needs to clean that regardless of what chipset is used. Hi The Tech Chap, was hoping to get your quick opinion. I can get either the OnePlus8Pro or the Samsung S20Plus for the exact same price - which one would you choose? Great video by the way!
I still don't understand the rationale behind having photos that are true to life when people looking at some of these photos have no idea how the natural picture is, I would say go for the phone that gives you the best eye appeasing pictures. No one will come and look for the natural scene😂
Colors (unless they are horribly off) are not a huge deal, even for the proffesionals. what matters is detail, dynamic range and low light performance.
There still do exist people in this world who would want to remember their memories in picture form as to how it was! You can get appeasing pictures through post edits (And for those reasons there do exist these photo editing apps) but a true to life is the one which you would probably never have even after the best edits. Life isn't all about beauty and appeasing objects. Companies and these hardworking UA-camrs are not any jokers to spend such invaluable resources just to get a real true to life image. Reality is what matters deep down which makes the companies spend billions to upgrade their camera system. And here it's you stating how it's all ok to have just an eye-appealing picture. Social Media is important but is it real? A person like you would probably not understand... (Laughing Emoji inserted right with purpose)
About Front Selfie camera , One pluse8 is more friendly for darker or Asian skin tone I guess. But this is easy to adjust, they will hear those feed back.

@@jasonmiller9495 Exactly, US and China Enjoys Snapdragon while the rest of the world suffers from overheating, decreased battery life, inferior camera performance with the exynos.

I don't do video but I do photography. I'm shocked that the S20 is that bad. I take DSLR level photos with a Note 8, so I'm skeptical. The OnePlus is ok for casual phone camera users. I'd stick with Samsung or iPhone for more serious photography.

1:58 is exactly what keeps me away from buying a OP8pro. Thank you so much for this. You are the one with meaningful samples and not only random shots. I realy need a video cam with this good HDR. I will wait for the Iphone 12 and hope for a bigger sensor. Still on my Pixel 2xl.
It is officially dumb to argue over phones they're at there peak and most are the exact same except for some small differences

I think it just shows that the hardware is great on all three, it just come down to the software and processing and they have all gone in slightly different ways
Excellent review. What i have been waiting for.
I was expecting a lot from One plus specially after they increased the price to $1000.
I feel one plus is charging only for the display,IP rating,Wireless Charging and 5G.Nothing else.
@King Kosa V and that too in the night time... And the front facing camera... Otherwise the outdoor shots were A+++
OnePlus will improve skin-tone with software updates they always do that with updates they make camera better.
I actually liked the portrait shots better on the OnePlus
I didn't like the colours but it is early software it will keep getting better .
agree!
@Bryan yes i use it on my poco f1 and its camera rocks even today
iPhone 11 can compete with this 2 flagship? Price and camera? For me 11 pro max are most reliable and consistent camera here.
One plus camera is disappointing as usual.
Wtf how 😂 iPhone 200 dollars more Samsung 300dollars more still preforms phenomenal
Def the iPhone is most well-rounded. I'm surprised how bad the Ultra is overall. To think people actually spend $1400 on it. OnePlus didn't improve much to validate their new prices. It would be great to see a camera comparison with the 7 Pro.
Impressive... Amazing to see iphone with last year tech still able compete and beat latest phone
U ok?? 😂😂. iPhone was supposed to be "ground breaking" with there cameras. The 20 is still released in the same gen as the pro. One plus had one extra year to build there phone. Samsungs and iPhones phone were still comparable last year. The damn note 10 could beat that shit tbh. Lol list everything the iPhone is better at. I'll list mine for Samsung and one plus
-120hz display
-Triple the ram
-Better cameras
-No damn big ass notch
-Way better ecosystem. (at least Samsung doesn't limet us to what we can use!!)
last year's tech? you do know the iPhone 11 series just like all androids coming out now uses a 2nd gen 7nm chipset, so these are actually the iphones real competitors.
@@basilaaa4715 lol. More ram doesn't mean nothing , it's about software and optimization
Lol , apple has the best ecosystem
iPhone 11 pro max clearly has better camera than OnePlus and Samsung
Shitty fanboy haters
If you don't like just don't fucking buy it
@@basilaaa4715
1. It's a phone not a fuckin' gaming laptop so it doesn't matter.
2. iPhones don't need a whole lot of ram cause they aren't packed with bloatware and use IOS.
3. Way better ecosystem? Here's an example to prove you wrong: The iPhone 6s can run fortnite but the Samsung galaxy note 5, which was released around the same time as the 6s CAN'T.
Ok fine list your reasons isheeps
I-phone has better video than others in the day time for sure. This is what most people needs anyway. Photos wise all 3 phones are OK.
5:15 the reason why there is no texture visible on S20 ultra and OP8 Pro is that the background is simply out of focus. Remember - they have FAR bigger sensors than iphone and due to that way thinner depth of field. Thanks to that you also get natural looking bokeh without using portrait modes.
Night Mode Huawei still the Champ
Considering price and performance, I think the best choice is OP8pro. Here in the Philippines, both iphone11pro and s20 ultra are priced around $1400 to $1450 (price leap for IP11pro compared to US pricing). So I think OP8pro will the better deal in the Philippines.
Subscribed to Ryan’s channel now! Well done to the NHS etc 👍
Just one thought though , the
night sky should look black in astrophotography ... it's a lot more realistic than the other grey images imo .
Based on all of this, I am returning my Ultra and considering the S20+, which I've read doesn't have any focusing issues.
best review as always.....Personall I will wait for the king P40 pro plus....

Awesome shootout!!👏👏👍 Last IPhone I owned was the IPhone 4. After this I might leave android for that IPhone 11 Pro Max 🤦♂️. Just subbed to your friend's channel!! They are our true heroes right now!!❤❤🙏🙏
Where is this filmed? It looks lovely! Also, never watched a video but I will be back, you seem very clear and cool!
I got the 11 pro max today and out of all iPhone models I’ve purchased throughout the years this is by far the best I’ve purchased yet and the in built speakers on this phone are outstanding ☺️☺️😯😯🦁🦁
11 pro max green 256 since sept 20 just love it keeping and getting a blue 12
I'm not understanding how Samsung spoke so highly of the Ultra's camera but the the daytime photos are dark and sometimes hazy. The shadows areas are crazy dark. The focusing issues. And dark scenes without night mode are trash yet it has a bigger sensor to light in more light. Turn on the night mode and is still gets destroyed by other phones. It looks bad. My S10+ looks better in a lot of cases. What is going on Samsung??
Actually it's because of Exynos processor. The Snapdragon version has a better camera.
How one plus 8 pro camera is focusing better than iphone and samsung. It is a fake one, don't see it really.
It's the shitty ass exynos versions...SD865 versions of the S20 phones are far superior night & day!
@@maverick4655 not really if you read anandtech's thorough review about its camera, it's the other way around but nevertheless, the post processing in both Snapdragon and Exynos is still shitty and Samsung needs to clean that regardless of what chipset is used. You can see the S20 camera real potential when you use Pro and shoot in RAW then apply your own post processing in Lightroom.
Lemme just say that - the audio on the OnePlus is awesome

Cant really go wrong with any of these phones. Just close your eyes and randomly choose one.
there's an almost 700USD difference between S20 Ultra and OnePlus8 pro. Last year I paid 650USD for one week in Cuba all included (in 3 stars hotel).
iPhone will always be the champion !! Period
Skin tones look the best on the s20 to me. But overall, I'm kinda disappointed with Samsung this year.
They've previously been known for properly exposing the shadows and getting really good hdr.
I dunno wtf happened with the s20 line up
Somehow all smarphone these day had an issue when it came out, op+8 ,even p40 pro.
Also i using s20+ and yeah the camera still need update, they already do twice on this month tho, but still not good as i expected.
Still to far from i phone 11 tbh, even tho the video recording is the top tier.
It's a shame you can't use the snapdragon version of the ultra. It would've performed better in the comparisons.
Nobody... literally nobody can't beat iPhone in skin tone and colour balancing.
When a so called flagship killer sells close to the flagship phone's price... it is no longer a flagship killer! People should rather buy an actual flagship!!!
OnePlus is 8pro is also an actual flagship you dumb
@@sangeetabora9910 nah its priced to be one but its not
@@ssaini5028 You've got that the wrong way around. It's a phone that costs $300-400 less than the equivalent iphone or samsung yet it's still got better specs.
@@grantdavis5627 the 8 Pro costs $1300 here in Canada
@@grantdavis5627 unfortunately specs mean nothing. Oneplus camera isnt better than last years flagships and the battery life is roughly the same. Stereo speaker are that great either.
You should use the S20 plus in this comparison as it's the phone similar in pricing. Ultra is not a phone for everyone and it's not one that regular people are gonna buy. It has it's own issues too because of the large sensor and very shallow depth of field.
iphone 11 has a big problem in video recording, when you record something and there is a sky it constantly makes weird lights in the sky and its weird how these youtubers can't notice it....2:04 proves it

@@victuringan1429 I guess you have no comeback
Hi The Tech Chap, was hoping to get your quick opinion. I can get either the OnePlus8Pro or the Samsung S20Plus for the exact same price - which one would you choose? Great video by the way!
I still don't understand the rationale behind having photos that are true to life when people looking at some of these photos have no idea how the natural picture is, I would say go for the phone that gives you the best eye appeasing pictures. No one will come and look for the natural scene😂
good point! It's that "instagram-ready" vs. "true-to-life" debate
I think the iPhone is best ❤️
S20 Exynos version is crap..
Just look at the cameras
Pls do for the snapdragon variant
Best comparison I've watched so far. I have all three phones and currently I'm using the OnePlus 8 Pro as my daily. I totally agree with the opinion of Tom. I'd rank them based on overall performance as follows:
1. iPhone
2. OnePlus
3. S20 🙄
Omg? iphone still king )
Please Do camera comperision between iphone 11 vs s20 vs one plus 8.
After all these years Samsung was climbing the mountain of success, but with the S10/Note 10 it has reached its peak.
Now the decline starts...
I thought the same thing watching reviews. I have the Note 10 plus but just got the S20 and the S20 is superior in everyway compared to the Note 10 plus. I should have went with the Ultra though my only complaint is the s20 is very small
I wish Samsung would use Snapdragon on all of their phones. I'm think thats why there are mixed reviews. The Snapdragon version is much better
@@jasonmiller9495 Exactly, US and China Enjoys Snapdragon while the rest of the world suffers from overheating, decreased battery life, inferior camera performance with the exynos.

this is truly creative. So far the best comparison video i ever watch thanks for the great video !
Appreciate you so much bro 🙏

The problem with these comparison videos is that depending on where each phone is placed you're going to get different results. They're always going to be slightly uneven as they're not all perfectly framing the same images and videos.
S20 snapdragon or exynos? there's a camera difference!
Exynos takes better photos that's been proven
I don't do video but I do photography. I'm shocked that the S20 is that bad. I take DSLR level photos with a Note 8, so I'm skeptical. The OnePlus is ok for casual phone camera users. I'd stick with Samsung or iPhone for more serious photography.

I might say that the camera of one plus 8 pro must have been influenced by lightroom
Ive been watching your reviews a lot of times but on this one i find it bias...
That’s not how TOF sensors work. They only help in portrait mode.
I think OnePlus and Apple are the two large competitors in this camera test. OnePlus is much brighter, while the iPhone has a warmer appearance. My final opinion, surprisingly, is the OnePlus 8 Pro! As a OnePlus 7 Pro user, I am very surprised I prefer OnePlus's camera layout this time around. I say this because the zoom functionality is far better on OnePlus's side than Apple's. More than likely, the iPhone 12 will improve greatly on the camera (like usual).
that opening shot with the OnePlus 8 looks awful! :O You look like a Simpson!
Are they fixed the video sharing problem? I mean, if video exported to other device it looks weird in past.
£200+ less for oneplus-hands down winner in my book. only slight differences which will probably be corrected with software updates
Ok when s7 Came out, most youtuber were like:
its just a little fast focus nothing special
As samsung lost that now
UA-camrs: OMG its terrible.
well its pretty clear samsung messed up a big with s20 serires. but its ok to praise something when its there.
IMO 1+ is the clear winner. Since its going head to head with phones that are way beyond in terms of pricing. 1+ is almost $500 cheaper than S20 ultra and still manages to outdo it in specific conditions. obviously iphone 11 Pro camera is better but i think 1+ wins in ultra wide dept which is a thumbs up for me. Great comparison video as always.
