  • Detailed instructions on how I removed the cracked dash from my 1992 OBS Chevy Silverado truck with the help of my wife and kids. One step closer to installing the new LMC truck dash! For those who pop in here wondering, I leave my wire harness connected so I can drive the truck while the dash is out. All that is needed this way is to reconnect a couple grounds from the dash. Also make sure you remove the lower left and right floor facing, glovebox, and lighter area bulbs. They will all be switched on when the dash is out.

    15 years ago built a 24X48 Garage with a 24x32 attic. Decided to bite the bullet and install central air. Don’t miss the money but not only enjoy the cool place to work in the summer the
    A/C removes humidity protecting tools and vehicles from rust. Also have a whole house dehumidifier to assist. (Aprilaire model 1850. Sucks 95 pints per day out of the air)
    Thank you for the great step by step tutorial . I have to replace my evaporator and heater core. I’m ready now to tackle the job.

    This was very helpful for me, we have a 93 full size blazer we just picked up. Great condition but the interior is rough and the dash is all broken as in the video. A friend has a pickup he bought for the motor and the dash is perfect. I’m going over today to get the complete dash and door panels out before he scraps the truck. Seeing this will save at least an hr in hunting for connections and screws along the way. Thanks for taking the time.

    If anyone is thinking of replacing those hard-to-reach air vent actuators (which I did) the part numbers for the Dorman replacements are: 604-102 for the left one, 604-124 for the center one, and 604-103 for the one on the right that's really hard to get at

    If a plastic bottle takes 450 years to decompose, why do these plastic dashboards take only a few years and they start falling apart? Thanks for the video though, thinking about replacing my '93 chevy dash. Truck has low miles and I am not paying $50k for a brand new similar truck.

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  8 місяців тому

      The dash is technically not decomposing it's just getting damaged from the heat cycles and direct exposure to the sun. 😉 You know how it goes make profit then make it disposable so people can buy next year's stuff. Then the following year when they feel the need to get the latest bit of fancy, the old stuff is old or broke, let's buy more stuff. To each his own. Long as no one gets hurt we all get one spin on the rock 😎 👍

    Hi, to remove the instrument cluster plug did you have to remove the vent tubing? Thats the only way I see getting that plug through the dash is to take out the 5 bolts and pull the vents off the dash.

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  8 місяців тому

      There are a few ways to do this. If your old dash is destroyed like. Mine was you can break the plastic. It's going in the trash any way. If you need to be more carefull and don't want to unbolt the whole harness from both sides at the firewall. This way would allow you to pull the whole dash out with the wires attached then as you said unbolt the vents and all the stuff to transfer to the new dash while its tilted if you can fit. Another way is to tilt the dash forward and carefully cut the tape and ties used to hold the cluster wire to the plastic pieces on the back of the dash. Really depends on what your situation is. I needed to drive mine and found it easy to leave all the wires in place removing them from the clips behind the old dash. I drove it that way for a while with no dash. Good luck 👍

    I got a question. I have a 95 c1500 single cab, but i really like the 94 dash like the square type. Is there a way were I can swap the whole 95 dash to a 94 dash?

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  3 роки тому +1

      The dash does fit size wise. From what I understand its a lot of work to go from 95/99 to 88/94 and the other way around. You have different wire harness, cluster, controls, ac, ac venting etc. I would guess if you had a full donor truck you could do it. Personally I am with you, I also have a 2000 Tahoe limited and love the square look of the 88 to 94 dash. If you have the time, money, and parts anything is possible. You would also need to do the door panels and all the switches in them so they line up.

My sympton is this: When I turn the ignition key to the on position, I get a loud clicking noise coming from the heater. It sounds like a plastic door moving back and forth. It stops after about 30 seconds but starts up again when I turn the ignition off. Weird. Do you think it is the cluster or the door actuators? Just trying to minimize the amount of time I need to devote to this problem. The vehicle is a '94 chevy 1500 which began life as a V6. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  Рік тому

      It would be guessing without seeing and testing. What i would do is replace the actuators while the dash is out. Same goes for the heater core. Saves time since your in there. Also clean the ducts real good so they smell like new. If the problem goes away it was an actuator. If not the controls can easily be trouble shooted after the dash is back in. Or better yet while the dash is out connect and test the controls too. Way easier when you can see the parts moving.

      Not much info in your comment to trouble shoot the problem. Not many plugs in that area so shouldn't be hard to figure out if a stock harness. What is not working on the dash or ebrake? First things to check would be e brake light on dash does it light when you press in the peddle? If you use Facebook join the obsessed, or obs trucks, 90s trucks groups and post a picture of the harness.
