    We've been reading the studies on aluminum safety since the day we started working on Carpe seven years ago - the original cut of this video was _far_ longer and incorporated many more of them, but early viewers told us that half an hour of presenting studies made for a boring video 😄 That's why this video is centered around the EU study: It was published in 2020 and considers _all_ of the research done up to that point. If you'd like to see more of the research for yourself, the EU study is a great place to start: ec.europa.eu/health/sites/default/files/scientific_committees/consumer_safety/docs/sccs_o_235.pdf

      The linked article says aluminum is safe up to 6.25% in non-spray deodorants, but your underarm stick says 15%. That's more than double. So, how do you use this article as justification for your formula??

      I thought they did make none-staining antiperspirants. But i've never looked into the connection between aluminium and efficacy etc. I'm pretty sure i've used some in the past and sure enough they didn't stain, but can't say for certain.
      Incidentally i think it's only a problem with tight clothes. Clothes that are loose around the arms don't seem to be affected by it (which is why there's many more none-staining options in women's deodorant/antiperspirant than men's).

      I’ve used a crystal salt deodorant, only works for 24 hours, and you will sweat but not smell. Been using it for years.
      I have tried Lume and it does work well, for real 72 hours ! That’s 3 days !
      You will still sweat, again not smell. Lume scents are not so great but, it goes away really fast. The unscented one is bad smelling, but again it really doesn’t last long. You won’t smell it by the time you go out the door.
      I think I saw something about Lume coming out with an antiperspirant. I don’t know.

    I thought the argument had less to do with how much aluminum our bodies absorbed, but more the fact that antiperspirants prevent the body from sweating, which could clog pores and prevent the excretion of toxins?

    • @MyCarpe
      @MyCarpe  2 роки тому +24

      Sweat doesn't selectively excrete toxins - that only happens in the bathroom and through breathing. Sweat is basically all interstitial fluid (minus some sodium, chloride, and bicarbonate) leaking out; so it's basically your "cell water" coming out, good parts and bad. Definitely not a mechanism to get rid of toxins.

I made another video about this, actually, where I eat smelly food and it changes the way my sweat smells because the food has increased the serum level of sulfurous molecules (ua-cam.com/video/Vh9rtaX3dpI/v-deo.html).

    Im much more worried about antiperspirant clogging my pores and possibly making me sweat or smell more. I have a pretty sweaty face so I was looking at your face products, and the THIRD ingredient in your face cream is Witch Hazel and the FIFTH is denatured alcohol. Those are too very sensitizing ingredients when use at that concentration. There’s also essential oil which can be irritating. The ingredients for the face primer spf look better but they still have rosemary oil which makes me nervous as someone with sensitive skin and eyes. I don’t want to be less sweaty but damaging my skin long term, which herbal essential oils can do. And you can’t tell what concentration it’s at from the ingredient list.

      About the anti-perspirant clogging your pores, you should be exfoliating your underarms on a regular basis. Use a washcloth when showering and make sure to wash your underarms with it at least once a day. You can also use a physical exfoliant like a body brush on your under arms as well as a chemical exfoliant like a Salicylic Acid Shower Gel or using a cotton swab with Glycolic acid on your underarms at least twice a week. This will help with removing build-up, dead skin cells and any other gunk that may have accumulated under your arms. It is also important to shave your underarms on a regular basis just for the sake of maintaining hygiene.

      Your armpits aren't the only place where you sweat. Whole human body sweats in equal amounts, it's just that it evaporates more quickly due to large surface area and gets dry. In armpits tho, it stays covered and stays wet. which harbors bacteria that produces odor. Our sweat doesn't smell bad, it's the bacteria that makes it smell.

    • @alkaholic4848
      @alkaholic4848 7 місяців тому +1

      @@yuvtube1 Your armpits (and groin) are also the only places that produce apocrine sweat - an oily sweat containing waste proteins and carbohydrates. While it doesn't smell, they get broken down by bacteria which does create a smell.
      The sweat produced elsewhere on your body is eccrine sweat - a watery fluid without much in it.

    I echo the sentiment that being that you own an antiperspirant company I am more leery. So, my question is: Is there a difference between us having aluminium in our system from various things (ie food) and having it to stop sweat near the breasts. Obviously, this is a concern/worry moreso for us women. Especially if you have seen loved ones suffer. Does sweating in the armpits release toxins?

    • @MyCarpe
      @MyCarpe  8 місяців тому +1

      I'm with you - it's hard to fully trust someone with a conflict of interest. We could definitely take this company in an aluminum-free direction, but we've chosen to stick with aluminum because (i) we trust the research and analysis out there (especially the meta-analysis by the EU SCCS, which looks at all the research to date), (ii) aluminum works really well to reduce sweating, and (iii) the FDA requires aluminum for us to call the products "antiperspirants". Sweat doesn't release toxins, at least not in any organized way - it basically releases the water between your cells, and a few nutrients (including sodium, ironically enough given how salty sweat appears) are partly clawed back by the sweat gland; so just about everything in your body is partly expelled through sweat, but it's not a way your body tries to remove toxins. Here's a video with more details about how that works: ua-cam.com/users/shortsjucguzjYAyE

      Maybe it was always there but your body just adapted to the sweaty smell as normal so you didn't notice it. It was only after the absence of it for a few weeks that you became more sensitive to it again.
      It's like how most people's houses have a unique smell but you don't notice your own house's smell until you go on holiday for a week or so and the first time you come back you're greeted with a smell you never usually notice.

      Great point! This was one of the findings that originally drew attention to aluminum - but it turned out to come down to a data misinterpretation: Most breast cancer occurs in the upper outer quadrant (the region you’re referring to) because that’s where most of the breast tissue is. Studies on this found that once you consider this, cancer is actually *not any more common* in this part of the breast than in others (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15767185/). This explains why all the population studies show no association between breast cancer and antiperspirant use.

If you think about it, how many people live into their 70s 80s plus and until recently I don't know that this was an issue so if your grandpa has used right guard or old spice or something with aluminum for 50 years plus obviously it's not that dangerous, now of course you have exceptions, but for the general public I don't see it being a problem

    The problem isn’t actually the absorption of aluminum. People worry about blocking sweat and clogging your axillary lymph nodes.

    • @shanehilton2571
      @shanehilton2571 2 роки тому +2

      Also antiperspirants contains parabens and phthalates which act as endocrine disruptors. Basically antiperspirants can also just screw up your hormones which control almost every function in your body.

      @MyCarpe  2 роки тому +4

      @@shanehilton2571 Our antiperspirants definitely don't contain parabens and phthalates but that's not unique to us - these are pretty rare in most modern products. As for lymph node clogging; lymph nodes drain into the bloodstream, not via the sweat glands (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/21199-lymphatic-system)

    As much as I would like to trust science, there is such a thing as corporations funding research studies. The worst thing, when some scientists turn on humanity for profit.

    • @MyCarpe
      @MyCarpe  Місяць тому

      Honestly it doesn't even take corporate funding - a huge amount of studies (particularly in social sciences) don't replicate, and it seems massive amounts of researchers fake results just to advance their careers. The big scandal right now is in Alzheimer's, it seems that most of the major results of the last few decades there have been based on faked data.

    I will have to add the methods of absorption, the location on the body and the amounts of AL companies use all effect absorbtion. If these were not part of the test modules then they should be.
    Companies can use all differing amounts and ALSO,.
    A woman who usually shaves her under arm increases the absorbtion rate and that directly to the lymph nodes are not the digestive system. Nodes are designed to harness impurities not digest them.
    Also direct measuring amounts of AL found in food products have to be given statistical amounts not percentages. Just telling people a percentage was only found is not factual research, it is ambiguous impressionism. In chemistry analysis you have to give actual amounts.

No issues yet,,,blood work is always good. Make sure you shave those areas after shower apply,,smell good all day. Forget these 15 dollar deodorants.
