It's best to have ATB assist on characters you're going to be spamming lots of abilities with aka your main. The boost you get from it can come in super clutch!

Great video, man! 2 things to add for Cloud: 1. Mythril Saber has the ability TRADE OFF that lets you regain MP when taking big damage. Invaluable during boss fights in Hard Mode when you can’t use items and benches to recover MP. 2. The DISORDER ability lets you keep on wailing on your enemies non-stop as you can use it to cancel any of your basic attacks except the combo finishers. What I do is start up my string of basic attacks (1-4 attacks), then activate DISORDER to switch modes while doing big damage, do another string of basic attacks to fill another ATB bar, then activate DISORDER again. Rinse and repeat. With proper timing with the DISORDER activation, you can cancel enemy moves, punisher parry enemy melee attacks, all while filling your ATB at the same time.
Triple Slash's damage trails off when it hits the same enemy more than once, so it actually does less damage to a single target than Braver. You can see at 3:15 that Triple Slash did ~2800 damage, while and Braver did 3240. However, what's neat is that the game considers enemy parts to be separate targets. For example, if you're fighting a Cutter, which has a main body and two targetable arms, Triple Slash will hit each arms and then the main body--ramping up damage with each hit--for massive overall damage.
I did not think about that with the enemies body parts that's a really good tip! Sorry yeah I had the triple slash damage falling off in my notes but for whatever reason I skipped over it for the clip haha. I mainly use braver on staggered enemies over infinity End it can rack up way more damage. I cover this in my latest video about the tips if you don't mind checking that out. Has some interesting stuff in there
@@BltzZ A few points the original Tifa video missed. -Deadly dodge gains the combo extentions from unbridled strength in the same way that overpower does. Making it a great materia for Tifa. -Square and triangle only do the same thing when unbridled strength isn't charged. Square always does uppercut so if you want to uppercut without unloading omnistrike and rising fall, that's when you use square instead. -Some consider Tifa a glass cannon, but she's the most mobile character in the party, making it easiest for her to avoid a lot of moves. Add the parry materia onto this, and she can easily avoid things that other party members have to block, and can even avoid some unblockable things that are very hard for other party members to avoid, like umbral strikes from Bahamut. -Focused strike. It can be used to safely hit enemies that have an auto counter, because of how much evasion is built into it. But the main point is that unlike "focused" abilities from other characters, Tifa's builds atb when it hits. So much so that it essentially doesn't cost ATB to use. It's pretty great if you put the ATB assist materia on Tifa for when you're using this too, that way when an enemy is pressured not only can Tifa spam "focused" strikes, so can your other characters. I haven't really tested to much to see if there are any conditions for the ATB gain when using focused strike, like maybe the enemy needs to be pressured, or maybe Tifa needs to be at level 3 unbridled strength. -True Strike. I know you already know how it's used, because you mentioned it in this video. Some people think she needs the Stagger ATB materia to best use this, but I disagree. If she starts with no ATB you can still use the full combo, you just have to unload levels of unbridled strength to build ATB for true strike. Something like Rise and Fall > True strike > Omnistrike > True strike. If you do it this way, you can also use uppercut > dive kick as a nice finisher as long as she started with about half a bar of ATB. -Chi Trap. There are enemies that normally Tifa is kind of bad at fighting, but Chi trap changes that. For example the basic dog enemies, normally Cloud is much better at fighting them, but if you use Chi trap on them they become pretty helpless. Same for riot troopers. Also if you trap 3 or 4 enemies with Chi Trap, consider it a good time to use star shower. Another good time to use star shower is if the boss you're fighting presents a big opening when you don't have unbridled strength charged up for a beefed up overpower. Chi trap is almost essential for the hardmode boss fight with Tifa and Barret, to clear up the adds.
You can equip multiple versions of the same materia linked with different support materia. For example, equip three fire materia, link one with MP absorb, one with HP absorb and one with magnify. This makes firaga a free AOE nuke that heals you.

Haha na man not at all! There are plenty of beast mode players out there but most of the stuff is memorized and scripted haha I have plenty of moments where things don't go my way and I get absolutely destroyed! Hehe btw the Barret, aerith and pride and joy super easy guide is out :)
Cloud has some cool interactions with parry materia. First and most important, while in punisher mode if you parry dodge (R1+dodge) you don't exit punisher mode. Being able to punisher parry, then dodge parry away from enemies that might multi hit after the punisher parry (like cutters) and then keep wailing away in punisher mode is very nice. Also, this dodge parry will block ranged attacks even in punisher mode. Second, while not locked on to an enemy if you dodge parry and then immediately basic attack cloud's attack combo will skip the first two hits in both modes. I couldn't find much of a use for this but its neat. Other characters seem not to have this interaction with parry.
actually, using the mythril saber, element + element of choice, magic up materia. etc. The normal melee damage on targets is roughly the same as with the hardedge. And using blade burst on a staggered enemy will do around 7k damage (seen it hit up to 9k with double magic up) for 1 ATB. Were Infinity's End does 9999 for 2 ATB. The cast time for 2 blade bursts is about the same as 1 IE and BB hits more then 1 target. I've finished the game with mythril saber on hard mode because its plain OP as fuck. as it also massively increases your magic damage and healing.
Great comment right here I definitely wanna try out your build! Yes blade beam would be a much better option with the 1atb charge versus 2atb for infinity end! Another viewer said he's gotten braver to hit 8k too so against single target that's perfect to rotate in there
@@itskko I Auto attack. Barely used magic only on boss fights, first strike + triple slash is mostly enough for every standard fight. And if I need heals, just spread out the heals between the party before you smash some boxes. Mythril saber also has 50% Mana Regen in combat Wich really helps.
This is the only action combat system I've seen where enemies can knock you out of actions but the developers actually provided you with a way to deal with it other than just memorizing the fine-muscle-movement-tells of all ten billion different enemy types. ATB Pause is the greatest thing to ever happen to action mechanics.
Yup! If you feel like you are not going to make it in time to Parry or block you can go into the command menu and select parry or take time to recollect your battle strategy! It also looks absolutely beautiful seeing everything in combat slowed down To a micro second
The Materia "Enemy Skill" scales with magic stats in this game and works really great with a cloud mage build. I think Enemy Skill and Blade Burst also benefit from the 20% extra damage while having full mp from the mythril weapon and both do not cost any MP to use. I like to combine Enemy Skill with a HP absorb materia for extra healing as well. You can also get a lot MP back by linking the magnify ability and the MP absorb to the same elemental materia. Can build some fun mage characters this way.

Yes Elemental Materia on Aerith + Elements then add a HP Absorb + Elements (same) just allows a nuker to stay healed from the damage they do. Cloud also benefits from this as well but Tifa also could with Enemy Skill + HP Absorb for attacks and proximity to enemy healing them for every attack with the Aura skill that does ice damage but heals them every time. It does make for some unusual builds.
Great stuff in this video. Well done. 👍 You really can't go wrong with trying out any of these set ups and strategies. One thing that I did though was to have the ATB assist and first strike ability on Tifa. This allows her to very quickly use her Unbridled Strength x2 quickly and give the other characters a boost to ATB ASAP. Then switch to Barrett and use his Overcharge, which is always full at the start of the battle. That should give him close to 2 ATB which you can use for Lifesaver, Haste, Barrier, Regen, or whatever other buffs you want to prioritize. Tifa will have her character specific buffs maxed for her damage output and the other characters will have ATB to spend right away.

Make sure to mention how Tifa's Focused Strike ability has the built in evade/jump back at the start of it and how combining that with deadly dodge and parry turns her into a hit- and-run damage dealing machine. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the best way to use that character. Definitely the most "action game" type character in this hybrid combat system. I can't wait to see what they do with Red XIII and Vincent. Those characters could be a blast!

For hard mode I would highly recommend for each member to have the revive materia since you are not allowed to use items, I would also recommend have the prayer materia on any plays that has a high magic stat. It saves a whole lot of mp which is very important as you can only recover from boxes and it heals the whole team. Only downside is that it takes 2 ATB bars. The first strike materia is very useful but I would definitely not recommend it for boss battles since it's good for only the start of the fight. I would recommend to replace healing for prayer for some characters but still keep heal for emergency, and revive is definitly a must have for everyone. I really like your reviews and lookfoward to the next one. Hopefully after some time there will be a hard mode materia guide. (Looking forward to that too)

It's a totally different game once you understand the mechanics and how characters abilities work. The materia combinations makes me wanna try out 4 different play throughs lol
One thing to mention about Discord, the aftercast is consistently very low for both versions allowing you to deal out a continuous stream of attacks when chaining it with full combos. This also synergizes with a maxed out ATB Assist as you'll be filling up their gauges faster than if you switched characters and filled them separately. I used this all throughout Hard Mode with maxed Pray materia and Magic Up. Never had a problem with MP.

Great guide. I agree about finding new things for character/materia abilities despite two playthroughs- I honestly didn't know counterstance could block ranged and magic attacks, definitely couldve used that in hard mode lol. Another thing I didnt realize til near the end of my hard-mode run, Elemental Materia on Armor is so OP, especially maxed out. It basically turns extremely hard boss battles into a joke. Some of the hard mode sim fights you're happy when they cast their ultimate ability- instead of 6000 damage, you get healed for 6000. Seriously debating another playthrough just because the combat system is so fun with every character but bc you have to rapid cycle heroes for abilities and avoid aggro of bosses on hard mode, felt like I didn't really play enough with any of them.
13:05 is the best part of this video. I absolutely felt this in my soul. Also we have the same shortcuts! Thanks for the video, I learned a few things that will really help me. Just started Hard Mode and I'm in chapter 3 so far!
I do almost the same set up on shortcuts but I use Disorder instead of Brave Burst. Triple Slash really trivializes a lot of the early chapters in the game with First Strike materia so abusing it is great. Fun fact with disorder: You bypass the short ready animation that cloud does when you swap to punisher or operator respectively, making it extremely good for managing stance switching in game on staggered opponents. Disorder works best on targets that can be pressured easily or on already staggered opponents to maximize damage output, especially with Haste and ATB Boosters, as you'll have no downtime between attacks if done right.
That's a great use for disorder! I also read if can interrupt certain spells as well kind of disappointed I read that after the fact but oh well. Great minds think alike so we have similar shortcuts!
The cool thing is, since Cloud's stats are good at everything, same as they were in the OG, you don't even have to choose between a black mage or physical build for Cloud. You can just pick a balanced weapon like the Iron Blade and use everything when it's most suitable.
Yup he's a perfectly designed character from a stats perspective which allows you to play however you want whether it's to burst damage with mage abilities! Or beat down cheeks. And even do both which is my preferred build

Amazing work here! I noticed counterstance was kinda broken when it parried EVERYTHING but never explored it... because it can really turn the game into a parry fest. However after seeing this I'm def going to try weaving it in to my current build. You're combat is super clean and solo Cloud absolutely needs counterstance to be optimal. You're also on the short list of people I have seen use ATB shortcuts correctly. I've seen a lot of people use them solely because they hate the command menu, which then makes them brute force everything instead of taking time to analyze what the hell is happening. Edit: Also some of the slowmos I've seen in this game are incredible. Like I don't believe it's even real sometimes

This is a great video and really got me rethinking counterstance. I never use it because I go full aggro but now I might need to reevaluate. Also side node my cloud is BLM all day and on hard the mythril I feel goes further than twin stinger. You get more mp Regen and less cast on attack spells
Yup the bonuses and stats you get on the Mythril blade really outweighs the differences from twin stinger. Twin stingers main saving grace is that it's balanced with attack and magic while also having reprieve and lots of MP. Other than that especially if you are focusing on magic then Mythril is the one to go for since you get crazy magic damage and reduce MP on spells and MP Regen. Thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed this! Perfect, prefer it longer to get into details. I like that you provided options for people with different playstyles or those who want to do additional playthrough's and play around with builds. I wouldn't personally make a Mage Tifa for example, but every character has a magic focused weapon, so you can if you want. Include timestamps, but otherwise the format is good! Looking forward to the Goddess of Death aka Tifa xD. She doesn't need a giant sword to slaughter everything in sight, just a pair of *gloves* lmao

Long well informed videos are my favorite. I would just include time stamps for the impatient people and a format so they can get their information the way the want. I like the gameplay I see so long videos are what I want.
That tip about using Focused attacks during Pressure was a HUGE help to me, as I had been using them wrong this entire time! I thought they increased the Pressure/Stagger gauge regardless, but that was wrong. Now I know why the gauge was inexplicably not rising when trying to use focused attacks right off the bat. I was always doing that to try to raise the gauge as quick as possible & not realizing that I was doing it wrong, so thanks for that!
Disorder is great as an interrupting attack. It takes a lot of enemies out of casting animation and special abilities. I always had this hot keyed as L1+Triangle since it takes you in and out of Punisher mode. Also of note, Infinitys End and Braver do more damage on Staggered Enemies. If the stagger Guage drains slowly, use Infinitys End for insane damage. If you have less time before the enemy comes out of stagger, use Braver. Triple Strike is great for ending regular battles quickly or hitting multiple enemies. Lastly, for those needing help on the Whack a Box game, use the Iron Sword and Deadly Dodge Materia. Deadly Dodge works during the challenge and costs no ATB. The weapon you use will let you use that ability in the challenge. Iron Blade with the Triple Slash skill makes Whack a Box so much easier. I've actually cleared the whole area with time to spare using this technique.
you need study weapons more.. for example.. nail bat special ability "disorder " stops/cancels enemies during the time they are trying casting spells.. it even stops sephiroth from casting his magic spells.. whenever you see an enemy trying to cast a magical spell..use this ability..

I'm sure in the open world portion were going to have some crazy materia combinations to explore and plenty of magnify materia. One just feels like it's not enough in this game! I hope we can get a decent amount and more materia slots
@@BltzZ They already gave you too much early game. I don't know how people who level Max materia and level 99 continue their game when the second part comes out. Looks like it'll just break their entire experience if they're too strong.
You'll just walk through bosses unless they implement a serious level scaling mechanic haha. For both regular enemies and bosses which fine tunes their ai depending on your materia levels
Lol the traditional god of war beginning where you lose all your stats from the previous game. I can totally see that happening lol and you get your stuff back maybe midway or a bit after that interaction..who knows?
I believe what you're seeing is clouds Blood sucker ability with the hardedge sword. I mention that in the video, where specifically are you seeing the passive heals? When enemies die?

Great vid, keep em coming. I saw a few things I pointed out in here. Black mage cloud is amazing with MP absorb combined with deadly dodge, it's basically free MP all the time.
@@BltzZ also fun black mage stuff, put a materia with HP/mp absorb, and then use the same type with the magnify materia, and you will get the hp/mp from the magnified casting. Yeah it's four slots, but it's amazing. I do it with fire as it's a pretty commonly useful element.

Quick pointer, Arcane Ward doesn't make the 2nd spell free. It just costs less but the damage is also halved I think to compensate. Doesn't really impact your guide though or anything, still some really good pointers for playing. Keep up the awesome work dude.

I am so addicted to this game's combat! I mainly play Tifa and she is my main physical damage character. For Cloud, I have him as more of a red mage. Using the buster sword with equal physical and magic attack, a materia of each element, a heal, and the elemental materia connected to whichever element I am going to need against most of the enemies I am fighting. I found it generally makes him very versatile, doing a lot of damage either with melee or magic. Lets me use lower level spells for more effect with him as well! Finally I am working on gearing him up with another First strike (Tifa currently has my maxed out one) to make starting fights on him better, as well as an HP and MP up just to help out with keep his resources high. I know its by no means some 100% efficient build but its something I have found I am having the most fun with. Also, counter stance IS OP and I love it.
That's the point that matters friend! As long as you are having fun with whatever build that's all that counts. There is no wrong or right way to play this game! I love the combat so much too
@@BltzZ That is very true! Its what makes the game so addicting. I actually just finished up the Tifa guide you put out and I am gonna give the sonic strikers a try instead of the metal knuckles. I just need to beat that damn hard mode challenge for her with the M.O.T.H Unit. That things makes my blood boil as Tifa. As Cloud it is pretty easy but doing it as Tifa has been hard.

Yup no problem! I had that same issue trust me man tifa gets wrecked by the moth solo. And you have to hit him with lightning to disable his blades so you can get in too

I'm thinking after I beat hard mode to replay the game using a mage cloud only build to spice things up. I plan to have multiple playthroughs for this game haha I waited so many years for this game
I wound up using Hardedge for most of my playthrough because I always give Cloud the elemental materia for the fights where he is on his own and can use all the extra damage he can get. The elemental materia's damage scaling to physical stats rather than magic meant it was better for getting those weakness bonuses in solo battles with Hardedge, particularly good for when Cloud needs to shred through mobs of Shinra goons or mechs and can just alternate between fire or lightning for the elemental bonus alone.
You and me both haha I love hardedges design too so it's an easy choice for me with cloud. I have a sick Barret melee build in his advanced guide as well as cool deadly dodge combo weaves for tifa in hers too. If you liked what you saw in the cloud guide I guarantee you those two guides will blow your mind
Not strictly related to Cloud, but from my testing the ATB Assist materia works for any two commands used back to back, it doesn't need to be the same one repeated two times. This makes the materia even more useful to Cloud, since he does have a variety of useful abilities (and is good with magic). I still prefer ATB Assist on Tifa, but Cloud is second choice for sure. Looking forward to the next guides.
Yup that's the best thing about this game IMO. Every character can be built however you want! I agree tho ATB assist is great on both cloud and Tifa but way more useful on tifa. I just love to hit things and play as cloud to start off fights haha
I turned level 50 today at the colosseum before crossing the wall 😆 had a lot of practice with shortcut moves finally! My son and i took turns! Can’t wait to get to weapon level 6 at the shinra lab! Thanks for the tips bruv! 👍🏻

BltzZ My eldest son is only 7 and a half years old! But I had to make him a part of this epic remake after 2 decades! And he loves it! I have to stop playing and wait at crucial storyline for him to watch so progressing much slower but savoring it all 😄 Looking forward to the hard mode!
Just a correction: Braver does more damage than Triple Slash on a single enemy. The attacks go up in succession for Triple slash only on multiple targets (I believe 2 targets makes the damage decrease on the 3rd hit cuz the target has been repeated...but I'm certain on 1 target the damage goes down each hit). Braver is more suited for a single enemy
Yup it most definitely is but in terms of battle flow I prefer to use triple slash to keep cloud mobile and constantly moving. I've noticed triple slash can cause pressure and sometimes interrupt enemies too. Braver is amazing on stagger and beats infinity's end easily in damage if you cast 2! It's definitely better for single target to use braver but my success rate on landing it is shit haha enemies always move out of my sight smh

I copied another guy here on UA-cam, I wish I remembered his channel but it is insanely good. Weapon: Buster Sword Armor: Chain Bangle Accessory: Gotterdammerung Materia: (Magnify + Time), Refocus, MP Up, HP Up, Lightning, Fire, ATB Boost, ATB Stagger, Luck Up Depending on the fight, you can replace the fire/lightning with another luck up or steadfast block. Basically when the fight starts, use refocus then cast Haste. Then use ATB Boost. When you pressure enemies, you can stagger them very fast using Focused strike 3x in a row. Your team will also be on haste because it's magnified. The luck up increases your damage output due to higher critical strikes. When you stagger, you will get large amounts of ATB back from the ATB Stagger materia. The lightning/fire are just typical weaknesses of most enemies but can be swapped out for something more appropriate for the fight you'll be in. Blizzaga is very powerful.

Haste is just broken to add at that point and I can only imagine how the PS4 must be on fire keeping up with all those moves and particles lol. @@BltzZ I think Haste/Stop is probably the best Materia in the game, especially with magnify...you can stop all enemies or haste your entire team. The Gotterdammerung makes Hard mode so much easier too.

TypicallyUnique one problem with this build is that accessory which you can get by clear the last VR challenges and it’s pretty hard I would say if you don’t have that accessory equip champion belt instead also change refocus materia to something else

I was finally able to get the gotterdamerung after grinding those summon fights for hours and continuing to watch your videos to tweak my strategies. I know I could cheese them using the arcane ward + aga spells with the right builds but it just wasn’t my style. So thanks for that also!

For some reason I am having a hard time getting fluent with the combat in this game. Entertaining, Informative, high quality videos like you are putting out are a huge help. I always learn something new.
Hey man I'm happy to help always, it takes a bit for everyone so I wouldn't worry too much about it, I find myself not switching often sometimes and other times I'm on point always mixing in attacks and atb haha. Once you get the colliseum and more VR missions it should help up your understanding a bit more. Chapter 9 is where my combat knowledge expanded like crazy because of the colliseum
Cloud is my all around elemental specialist. Elemental materia in my weapon and armor and I juggle the spells depending on the situation. Allows me to be strong in attack and spells. First Strike for the 1 up in combat, Steadfast Block for defense, and Enemy Skill with HP Absorb to sustain myself. Buster Sword works best for me cuz it's a perfect balance stat wise. Bahamut as a summon and champion belt to do more damage. The ATB assist idea u have for him makes alot of sense tho I may incorporate that and replace something I have
Buster sword offers great health too so on top of that and the healing you get from your elemental man it must be a fun build. I'm going to try that out later today I love these comments of different builds. Stuff like this makes each play through unique

Yup! Seeing all 9999s are always fun. But it's been brought my my attention from a another viewer that braver can hit 8k off staggered and it only costs 1atb so if you use this twice you can get more damage off versus infinity end which costs 2 atb! Wish I put that in the video but oh well that'll have to make a return maybe in the next one haha

I think them only doing the midgar portion had a lot to do with the PS5 coming soon and if they did the full entire game they would've not delivered at the level they could have. If they blow our mind with each release I'll for sure be happy. But it's a double edge sword because I want them to take their time but I also want the game right now haha. I found myself surprised at how they managed to stretch certain segments to being longer
Subscribed because of this video, but a slight misinfo about the weapons and materia. All weapons amongst all characters have 6 materia slots, all connected. You just have to have enough points to link them, which means you have to do hard mode to get the rest of manuscripts needed. Once you have all the manuscripts, you have enough points to unlock everything in each weapon.
I think I mention in the middle somewhere that once you get 250 SP or higher you can unlock the final sub core. Might've been during the nail bat portion. But I should've been more clear on that from the beginning you're right sorry about that

Tbh I usually have 2 first strike materias on 2 members and focus on magic base for aerith. But check out the full team hard mode build I have and start from there. The unlimited atb build is a nice one that requires a throughout out process

Love this game Stuck with buster sword my normal playthrough and had cloud my all around red mage brawler now doing a hard mode run, and replaying for fun experimenting

Haha yeah it's tough you gotta have to watch the opponent like a hawk..check my tips video I released yesterday for some improvements on the camera that may help you in battle especially with the free targeting setting. If you haven't changed it already that is!
So hold on a sec. You say you can cancel any of your basic attacks into a parry, aka 1 thru 5, but that the animation must finish first. Does this mean if you press Square multiple times that all of those attacks must play out first? So does that mean you must have only hit Square once in order to cancel into Parry after just one attack? Or can you cancel into Parry any time during a basic attack combo?
@@BltzZ Ah, so even if you execute a full combo string, you can parry even after the very first hit of the combo, essentially interrupting it? Or can you only interrupt it mid combo with the Counter Stance?
You have to click on new weapons and read the bottom proficiency tag. It tells you exactly what to do to unlock the abilities. Colliseum will level you up but it's slower than the VR missions in Chapter 17. Also you need 250 SP total to have more skill cores within weapons
Hey Blitz, do you have any tips to help me pull of counterstance more reliably? I manage to pull it off maybe half the time, if that. It must be a timing issue. You only seem to have 1 or 2 seconds at most to get attacked while it's activated for him to counter. Thanks for another wonderful video! You've really helped with my combat, and this will definitely help with my hard mode playthrough soon!
You have to really pay attention to the enemies movements and read that. The best way is to use it mid combo as cloud because enemies sometimes wait for you to finish before striking. I always cancel combos with the counter stance to get the most success rate from it.
Disorder lets you chain the Operator combo directly into the Punisher combo without a pause in between. I usually have it mapped onto Triangle in my Battle Settings (which is the mode switch button for Cloud) because of this. Everyone knows how useful Triple Slash is against mobs, but where it really shines is in the Jenova Dreamweaver fight. Cloud can really clear all the tentacles en masse with that skill alone.
@@BltzZ Also for some of the Materia you recommended for Cloud, I prefer to put on Tifa instead. First Strike: With the Concentration node from Purple Pain (70% chance of starting at Chi level 2), she has a good chance of needing to use Unbridled Strength only once to start battles at the maximum level 3 Chi for every encounter ATB Assist: Tifa has more reason than most to repeat ATB commands, between Unbridled Strength (use twice to go from Chi level 1 to 3) and True Strike (dumping all your ATB on a Staggered enemy to build Percentage, and give the rest of the party bonus ATB at the same time)
Yup I agree with you, these aren't sure fire must have materias I'm showcasing for cloud. Just what I personally have on my cloud and tbh most of these have better effects on other characters. Lots of builds depend on the playstyle where for me I don't utilize tifa right away I pressure with cloud then initiate stagger with tifa at chi level 3. Every approach is different tho
Black mage build: E. Skill linked to HP Absorb and Elemental linked with any element except Ice IMO. Soul Siphon will gain the element linked to Elemental and absorb HP. Double Magic Up should be equipped.
That's a sexy build I saw HP absorb works on deadly dodge and parry but didn't get a chance to try it out. I definitely will give it a go later thanks for sharing!

3:14 Says that Triple-Strike does more damage than Braver even though the clip used when making that opinion showed Braver out-damage Triple-Strike by 486 damage w/Lightning.
in terms of dps it does out damage it, you are getting out attacks way faster, invulnerability vs many crowd attacks and pressuring most enemies. Check the rufus guide to see how triple slash owns him and you can get a no damage run easily on him
You put it on a character you are not controlling and link it to fire wind ice electric. Then whenever the character you are controlling casts an attack spell, the AI will cast the spell linked with Synergy if they have ATB available. It kinda drops off in usefulness pretty fast cause they only cast the first level (Fire, Blizzard, Aero, Thunder) no matter what level the linked materia is.

It's best to have ATB assist on characters you're going to be spamming lots of abilities with aka your main. The boost you get from it can come in super clutch!
Royal Reapper both moves are bottom tier to me, but to each his own, play style varies hard in this game.

2 things to add for Cloud:
1. Mythril Saber has the ability TRADE OFF that lets you regain MP when taking big damage. Invaluable during boss fights in Hard Mode when you can’t use items and benches to recover MP.
2. The DISORDER ability lets you keep on wailing on your enemies non-stop as you can use it to cancel any of your basic attacks except the combo finishers. What I do is start up my string of basic attacks (1-4 attacks), then activate DISORDER to switch modes while doing big damage, do another string of basic attacks to fill another ATB bar, then activate DISORDER again. Rinse and repeat. With proper timing with the DISORDER activation, you can cancel enemy moves, punisher parry enemy melee attacks, all while filling your ATB at the same time.
Triple Slash's damage trails off when it hits the same enemy more than once, so it actually does less damage to a single target than Braver. You can see at 3:15 that Triple Slash did ~2800 damage, while and Braver did 3240. However, what's neat is that the game considers enemy parts to be separate targets. For example, if you're fighting a Cutter, which has a main body and two targetable arms, Triple Slash will hit each arms and then the main body--ramping up damage with each hit--for massive overall damage.
I did not think about that with the enemies body parts that's a really good tip! Sorry yeah I had the triple slash damage falling off in my notes but for whatever reason I skipped over it for the clip haha. I mainly use braver on staggered enemies over infinity End it can rack up way more damage. I cover this in my latest video about the tips if you don't mind checking that out. Has some interesting stuff in there

Tifa is pretty much a damage dealer. She's all about the ATB, speed up, damage, ATK. Uppercut and Dive Kick cancel for the win.
@@BltzZ A few points the original Tifa video missed.
-Deadly dodge gains the combo extentions from unbridled strength in the same way that overpower does. Making it a great materia for Tifa.
-Square and triangle only do the same thing when unbridled strength isn't charged. Square always does uppercut so if you want to uppercut without unloading omnistrike and rising fall, that's when you use square instead.
-Some consider Tifa a glass cannon, but she's the most mobile character in the party, making it easiest for her to avoid a lot of moves. Add the parry materia onto this, and she can easily avoid things that other party members have to block, and can even avoid some unblockable things that are very hard for other party members to avoid, like umbral strikes from Bahamut.
-Focused strike. It can be used to safely hit enemies that have an auto counter, because of how much evasion is built into it. But the main point is that unlike "focused" abilities from other characters, Tifa's builds atb when it hits. So much so that it essentially doesn't cost ATB to use. It's pretty great if you put the ATB assist materia on Tifa for when you're using this too, that way when an enemy is pressured not only can Tifa spam "focused" strikes, so can your other characters. I haven't really tested to much to see if there are any conditions for the ATB gain when using focused strike, like maybe the enemy needs to be pressured, or maybe Tifa needs to be at level 3 unbridled strength.
-True Strike. I know you already know how it's used, because you mentioned it in this video. Some people think she needs the Stagger ATB materia to best use this, but I disagree. If she starts with no ATB you can still use the full combo, you just have to unload levels of unbridled strength to build ATB for true strike. Something like Rise and Fall > True strike > Omnistrike > True strike. If you do it this way, you can also use uppercut > dive kick as a nice finisher as long as she started with about half a bar of ATB.
-Chi Trap. There are enemies that normally Tifa is kind of bad at fighting, but Chi trap changes that. For example the basic dog enemies, normally Cloud is much better at fighting them, but if you use Chi trap on them they become pretty helpless. Same for riot troopers. Also if you trap 3 or 4 enemies with Chi Trap, consider it a good time to use star shower. Another good time to use star shower is if the boss you're fighting presents a big opening when you don't have unbridled strength charged up for a beefed up overpower. Chi trap is almost essential for the hardmode boss fight with Tifa and Barret, to clear up the adds.
You can equip multiple versions of the same materia linked with different support materia. For example, equip three fire materia, link one with MP absorb, one with HP absorb and one with magnify. This makes firaga a free AOE nuke that heals you.
I love this, another commenter suggested it earlier. I tried it out and it's so much fun the diversity in this game!

Cloud has some cool interactions with parry materia.
First and most important, while in punisher mode if you parry dodge (R1+dodge) you don't exit punisher mode. Being able to punisher parry, then dodge parry away from enemies that might multi hit after the punisher parry (like cutters) and then keep wailing away in punisher mode is very nice. Also, this dodge parry will block ranged attacks even in punisher mode.
Second, while not locked on to an enemy if you dodge parry and then immediately basic attack cloud's attack combo will skip the first two hits in both modes. I couldn't find much of a use for this but its neat. Other characters seem not to have this interaction with parry.

actually, using the mythril saber, element + element of choice, magic up materia. etc. The normal melee damage on targets is roughly the same as with the hardedge. And using blade burst on a staggered enemy will do around 7k damage (seen it hit up to 9k with double magic up) for 1 ATB. Were Infinity's End does 9999 for 2 ATB. The cast time for 2 blade bursts is about the same as 1 IE and BB hits more then 1 target. I've finished the game with mythril saber on hard mode because its plain OP as fuck. as it also massively increases your magic damage and healing.
Great comment right here I definitely wanna try out your build! Yes blade beam would be a much better option with the 1atb charge versus 2atb for infinity end! Another viewer said he's gotten braver to hit 8k too so against single target that's perfect to rotate in there

@@itskko I Auto attack. Barely used magic only on boss fights, first strike + triple slash is mostly enough for every standard fight. And if I need heals, just spread out the heals between the party before you smash some boxes. Mythril saber also has 50% Mana Regen in combat Wich really helps.
This is the only action combat system I've seen where enemies can knock you out of actions but the developers actually provided you with a way to deal with it other than just memorizing the fine-muscle-movement-tells of all ten billion different enemy types. ATB Pause is the greatest thing to ever happen to action mechanics.
Yup! If you feel like you are not going to make it in time to Parry or block you can go into the command menu and select parry or take time to recollect your battle strategy! It also looks absolutely beautiful seeing everything in combat slowed down To a micro second
It's the reason I use counterstance from command instead of shortcut, my reaction time is pitifully slow so the extra time helps.
See and that's one more thing about this game and the effort they put into it. You have so many options to choose from on how to play

I’m praying this combat system is mimicked by other RPG’s, it’s too perfect
The Materia "Enemy Skill" scales with magic stats in this game and works really great with a cloud mage build. I think Enemy Skill and Blade Burst also benefit from the 20% extra damage while having full mp from the mythril weapon and both do not cost any MP to use. I like to combine Enemy Skill with a HP absorb materia for extra healing as well. You can also get a lot MP back by linking the magnify ability and the MP absorb to the same elemental materia. Can build some fun mage characters this way.

I prefer Enemy Skill on Tifa instead
Yes Elemental Materia on Aerith + Elements then add a HP Absorb + Elements (same) just allows a nuker to stay healed from the damage they do. Cloud also benefits from this as well but Tifa also could with Enemy Skill + HP Absorb for attacks and proximity to enemy healing them for every attack with the Aura skill that does ice damage but heals them every time. It does make for some unusual builds.

You really can't go wrong with trying out any of these set ups and strategies.
One thing that I did though was to have the ATB assist and first strike ability on Tifa. This allows her to very quickly use her Unbridled Strength x2 quickly and give the other characters a boost to ATB ASAP.
Then switch to Barrett and use his Overcharge, which is always full at the start of the battle. That should give him close to 2 ATB which you can use for Lifesaver, Haste, Barrier, Regen, or whatever other buffs you want to prioritize. Tifa will have her character specific buffs maxed for her damage output and the other characters will have ATB to spend right away.
Yup! That's what I alternate between! It's almost like the atb assist was design for tifa specifically! Right? I'm happy to hear you like the content bro! Tifas guide is coming next too

Make sure to mention how Tifa's Focused Strike ability has the built in evade/jump back at the start of it and how combining that with deadly dodge and parry turns her into a hit- and-run damage dealing machine. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the best way to use that character. Definitely the most "action game" type character in this hybrid combat system. I can't wait to see what they do with Red XIII and Vincent. Those characters could be a blast!

For hard mode I would highly recommend for each member to have the revive materia since you are not allowed to use items, I would also recommend have the prayer materia on any plays that has a high magic stat. It saves a whole lot of mp which is very important as you can only recover from boxes and it heals the whole team. Only downside is that it takes 2 ATB bars. The first strike materia is very useful but I would definitely not recommend it for boss battles since it's good for only the start of the fight. I would recommend to replace healing for prayer for some characters but still keep heal for emergency, and revive is definitly a must have for everyone. I really like your reviews and lookfoward to the next one. Hopefully after some time there will be a hard mode materia guide. (Looking forward to that too)

It's a totally different game once you understand the mechanics and how characters abilities work. The materia combinations makes me wanna try out 4 different play throughs lol
One thing to mention about Discord, the aftercast is consistently very low for both versions allowing you to deal out a continuous stream of attacks when chaining it with full combos. This also synergizes with a maxed out ATB Assist as you'll be filling up their gauges faster than if you switched characters and filled them separately. I used this all throughout Hard Mode with maxed Pray materia and Magic Up. Never had a problem with MP.

Great guide. I agree about finding new things for character/materia abilities despite two playthroughs- I honestly didn't know counterstance could block ranged and magic attacks, definitely couldve used that in hard mode lol.
Another thing I didnt realize til near the end of my hard-mode run, Elemental Materia on Armor is so OP, especially maxed out. It basically turns extremely hard boss battles into a joke. Some of the hard mode sim fights you're happy when they cast their ultimate ability- instead of 6000 damage, you get healed for 6000.
Seriously debating another playthrough just because the combat system is so fun with every character but bc you have to rapid cycle heroes for abilities and avoid aggro of bosses on hard mode, felt like I didn't really play enough with any of them.
Im thinking of the same thing as well after hard mode I wanna replay with crazy builds and see how I can tweak and master certain ones too!

I do almost the same set up on shortcuts but I use Disorder instead of Brave Burst. Triple Slash really trivializes a lot of the early chapters in the game with First Strike materia so abusing it is great.
Fun fact with disorder: You bypass the short ready animation that cloud does when you swap to punisher or operator respectively, making it extremely good for managing stance switching in game on staggered opponents. Disorder works best on targets that can be pressured easily or on already staggered opponents to maximize damage output, especially with Haste and ATB Boosters, as you'll have no downtime between attacks if done right.
That's a great use for disorder! I also read if can interrupt certain spells as well kind of disappointed I read that after the fact but oh well. Great minds think alike so we have similar shortcuts!
Can I ask what you mean by cancelling a combo, into say triple slash?
The cool thing is, since Cloud's stats are good at everything, same as they were in the OG, you don't even have to choose between a black mage or physical build for Cloud. You can just pick a balanced weapon like the Iron Blade and use everything when it's most suitable.
Yup he's a perfectly designed character from a stats perspective which allows you to play however you want whether it's to burst damage with mage abilities! Or beat down cheeks. And even do both which is my preferred build
He was originally a mystic knight in early planning, that's why he's a solid hybrid.

Amazing work here! I noticed counterstance was kinda broken when it parried EVERYTHING but never explored it... because it can really turn the game into a parry fest. However after seeing this I'm def going to try weaving it in to my current build. You're combat is super clean and solo Cloud absolutely needs counterstance to be optimal. You're also on the short list of people I have seen use ATB shortcuts correctly. I've seen a lot of people use them solely because they hate the command menu, which then makes them brute force everything instead of taking time to analyze what the hell is happening.
Edit: Also some of the slowmos I've seen in this game are incredible. Like I don't believe it's even real sometimes

The slowdown is so beautiful it often make mistakes because I sit there and watch it the whole time haha. We have to keep weaving in new attacks and never leave teammates with full ATB just standing doing nothing!
This is a great video and really got me rethinking counterstance. I never use it because I go full aggro but now I might need to reevaluate. Also side node my cloud is BLM all day and on hard the mythril I feel goes further than twin stinger. You get more mp Regen and less cast on attack spells
Yup the bonuses and stats you get on the Mythril blade really outweighs the differences from twin stinger. Twin stingers main saving grace is that it's balanced with attack and magic while also having reprieve and lots of MP. Other than that especially if you are focusing on magic then Mythril is the one to go for since you get crazy magic damage and reduce MP on spells and MP Regen. Thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed this! Perfect, prefer it longer to get into details. I like that you provided options for people with different playstyles or those who want to do additional playthrough's and play around with builds. I wouldn't personally make a Mage Tifa for example, but every character has a magic focused weapon, so you can if you want. Include timestamps, but otherwise the format is good! Looking forward to the Goddess of Death aka Tifa xD. She doesn't need a giant sword to slaughter everything in sight, just a pair of *gloves* lmao

Hey man I appreciate hearing you say that. You're going to conquer hard mode! Just be sure to switch up materias to capitalize on enemies weaknesses
That tip about using Focused attacks during Pressure was a HUGE help to me, as I had been using them wrong this entire time! I thought they increased the Pressure/Stagger gauge regardless, but that was wrong. Now I know why the gauge was inexplicably not rising when trying to use focused attacks right off the bat. I was always doing that to try to raise the gauge as quick as possible & not realizing that I was doing it wrong, so thanks for that!
Disorder is great as an interrupting attack. It takes a lot of enemies out of casting animation and special abilities. I always had this hot keyed as L1+Triangle since it takes you in and out of Punisher mode.
Also of note, Infinitys End and Braver do more damage on Staggered Enemies. If the stagger Guage drains slowly, use Infinitys End for insane damage. If you have less time before the enemy comes out of stagger, use Braver. Triple Strike is great for ending regular battles quickly or hitting multiple enemies.
Lastly, for those needing help on the Whack a Box game, use the Iron Sword and Deadly Dodge Materia. Deadly Dodge works during the challenge and costs no ATB. The weapon you use will let you use that ability in the challenge. Iron Blade with the Triple Slash skill makes Whack a Box so much easier. I've actually cleared the whole area with time to spare using this technique.

you need study weapons more.. for example.. nail bat special ability "disorder " stops/cancels enemies during the time they are trying casting spells.. it even stops sephiroth from casting his magic spells.. whenever you see an enemy trying to cast a magical spell..use this ability..

@@BltzZ They already gave you too much early game. I don't know how people who level Max materia and level 99 continue their game when the second part comes out. Looks like it'll just break their entire experience if they're too strong.
You'll just walk through bosses unless they implement a serious level scaling mechanic haha. For both regular enemies and bosses which fine tunes their ai depending on your materia levels

Black mage cloud is amazing with MP absorb combined with deadly dodge, it's basically free MP all the time.
Haha I got to try that out I saw someone else recommended that one too!
@@BltzZ also fun black mage stuff, put a materia with HP/mp absorb, and then use the same type with the magnify materia, and you will get the hp/mp from the magnified casting. Yeah it's four slots, but it's amazing. I do it with fire as it's a pretty commonly useful element.

Quick pointer, Arcane Ward doesn't make the 2nd spell free. It just costs less but the damage is also halved I think to compensate. Doesn't really impact your guide though or anything, still some really good pointers for playing. Keep up the awesome work dude.

I am so addicted to this game's combat! I mainly play Tifa and she is my main physical damage character. For Cloud, I have him as more of a red mage. Using the buster sword with equal physical and magic attack, a materia of each element, a heal, and the elemental materia connected to whichever element I am going to need against most of the enemies I am fighting. I found it generally makes him very versatile, doing a lot of damage either with melee or magic. Lets me use lower level spells for more effect with him as well! Finally I am working on gearing him up with another First strike (Tifa currently has my maxed out one) to make starting fights on him better, as well as an HP and MP up just to help out with keep his resources high.
I know its by no means some 100% efficient build but its something I have found I am having the most fun with. Also, counter stance IS OP and I love it.
That's the point that matters friend! As long as you are having fun with whatever build that's all that counts. There is no wrong or right way to play this game! I love the combat so much too
@@BltzZ That is very true! Its what makes the game so addicting. I actually just finished up the Tifa guide you put out and I am gonna give the sonic strikers a try instead of the metal knuckles. I just need to beat that damn hard mode challenge for her with the M.O.T.H Unit. That things makes my blood boil as Tifa. As Cloud it is pretty easy but doing it as Tifa has been hard.
The moth becomes easy mode if you put Fully maxed elemental materia on tifa armor slot with lightning so the moth heals you!!
@@BltzZ Gotcha. I will work on maxing out an element materia and use it on her to fight it then. I have one I am working with on Cloud that is nearly level 2. Thanks for the tip! I didn't know it would work like that.
Yup no problem! I had that same issue trust me man tifa gets wrecked by the moth solo. And you have to hit him with lightning to disable his blades so you can get in too

Cloud has magnify on in this clip. So it casts 2 times but hits the 2 enemies 2 times. So 4 hits

I wound up using Hardedge for most of my playthrough because I always give Cloud the elemental materia for the fights where he is on his own and can use all the extra damage he can get. The elemental materia's damage scaling to physical stats rather than magic meant it was better for getting those weakness bonuses in solo battles with Hardedge, particularly good for when Cloud needs to shred through mobs of Shinra goons or mechs and can just alternate between fire or lightning for the elemental bonus alone.
You and me both haha I love hardedges design too so it's an easy choice for me with cloud. I have a sick Barret melee build in his advanced guide as well as cool deadly dodge combo weaves for tifa in hers too. If you liked what you saw in the cloud guide I guarantee you those two guides will blow your mind
Not strictly related to Cloud, but from my testing the ATB Assist materia works for any two commands used back to back, it doesn't need to be the same one repeated two times. This makes the materia even more useful to Cloud, since he does have a variety of useful abilities (and is good with magic). I still prefer ATB Assist on Tifa, but Cloud is second choice for sure.

Yup that's the best thing about this game IMO. Every character can be built however you want! I agree tho ATB assist is great on both cloud and Tifa but way more useful on tifa. I just love to hit things and play as cloud to start off fights haha

Just a correction: Braver does more damage than Triple Slash on a single enemy. The attacks go up in succession for Triple slash only on multiple targets (I believe 2 targets makes the damage decrease on the 3rd hit cuz the target has been repeated...but I'm certain on 1 target the damage goes down each hit). Braver is more suited for a single enemy
Yup it most definitely is but in terms of battle flow I prefer to use triple slash to keep cloud mobile and constantly moving. I've noticed triple slash can cause pressure and sometimes interrupt enemies too. Braver is amazing on stagger and beats infinity's end easily in damage if you cast 2! It's definitely better for single target to use braver but my success rate on landing it is shit haha enemies always move out of my sight smh

Weapon: Buster Sword
Armor: Chain Bangle
Accessory: Gotterdammerung
Materia: (Magnify + Time), Refocus, MP Up, HP Up, Lightning, Fire, ATB Boost, ATB Stagger, Luck Up
Depending on the fight, you can replace the fire/lightning with another luck up or steadfast block.
Basically when the fight starts, use refocus then cast Haste. Then use ATB Boost.
When you pressure enemies, you can stagger them very fast using Focused strike 3x in a row. Your team will also be on haste because it's magnified. The luck up increases your damage output due to higher critical strikes. When you stagger, you will get large amounts of ATB back from the ATB Stagger materia.
The lightning/fire are just typical weaknesses of most enemies but can be swapped out for something more appropriate for the fight you'll be in. Blizzaga is very powerful.

Very solid stuff especially refocus off gotterdammerung! Haste is just broken to add at that point and I can only imagine how the PS4 must be on fire keeping up with all those moves and particles lol. @@BltzZ I think Haste/Stop is probably the best Materia in the game, especially with magnify...you can stop all enemies or haste your entire team.
The Gotterdammerung makes Hard mode so much easier too.

TypicallyUnique one problem with this build is that accessory which you can get by clear the last VR challenges and it’s pretty hard I would say if you don’t have that accessory equip champion belt instead also change refocus materia to something else

Hey man I'm happy to help always, it takes a bit for everyone so I wouldn't worry too much about it, I find myself not switching often sometimes and other times I'm on point always mixing in attacks and atb haha. Once you get the colliseum and more VR missions it should help up your understanding a bit more. Chapter 9 is where my combat knowledge expanded like crazy because of the colliseum

Cloud is my all around elemental specialist. Elemental materia in my weapon and armor and I juggle the spells depending on the situation. Allows me to be strong in attack and spells. First Strike for the 1 up in combat, Steadfast Block for defense, and Enemy Skill with HP Absorb to sustain myself. Buster Sword works best for me cuz it's a perfect balance stat wise. Bahamut as a summon and champion belt to do more damage. The ATB assist idea u have for him makes alot of sense tho I may incorporate that and replace something I have
Buster sword offers great health too so on top of that and the healing you get from your elemental man it must be a fun build. I'm going to try that out later today I love these comments of different builds. Stuff like this makes each play through unique

Yup! Seeing all 9999s are always fun. But it's been brought my my attention from a another viewer that braver can hit 8k off staggered and it only costs 1atb so if you use this twice you can get more damage off versus infinity end which costs 2 atb! Wish I put that in the video but oh well that'll have to make a return maybe in the next one haha
Mythril Saber has the 50% MP regeneration core perk which makes recovering MP way quicker and passive - making it a solid choice for hard mode imo
They really put the effort into making every weapon diverse and the materia I'd just the icing on the cake I love it!

I think them only doing the midgar portion had a lot to do with the PS5 coming soon and if they did the full entire game they would've not delivered at the level they could have. If they blow our mind with each release I'll for sure be happy. But it's a double edge sword because I want them to take their time but I also want the game right now haha. I found myself surprised at how they managed to stretch certain segments to being longer

Subscribed because of this video, but a slight misinfo about the weapons and materia. All weapons amongst all characters have 6 materia slots, all connected. You just have to have enough points to link them, which means you have to do hard mode to get the rest of manuscripts needed.
Once you have all the manuscripts, you have enough points to unlock everything in each weapon.
I think I mention in the middle somewhere that once you get 250 SP or higher you can unlock the final sub core. Might've been during the nail bat portion. But I should've been more clear on that from the beginning you're right sorry about that
Hey I know this video is about 8 months old but I'm knew to this game n I'm trying to figure out what's the best materia n equipment to start with with each character I'm having alot of trouble but loving your videos
Tbh I usually have 2 first strike materias on 2 members and focus on magic base for aerith. But check out the full team hard mode build I have and start from there. The unlimited atb build is a nice one that requires a throughout out process

Yeah you can watch them as they build you up towards what you will eventually need. Tifas advanced guide brings the combat to a whole another level too
Good guide, thumbs up. However in Hardmode you might want to modify your builds as you want to have revive and heal on all characters.

now doing a hard mode run, and replaying for fun experimenting
Enjoy man it's a lot of fun when you got the right materia build. If you wanna absolutely break the game I recommend checking out the instant limit break build we have. Also the infinite health build. You can just troll every fight and boss with it haha
Hard edge is probably my favourite weapon but twin stinger looks so damn cool

Haha yeah it's tough you gotta have to watch the opponent like a hawk..check my tips video I released yesterday for some improvements on the camera that may help you in battle especially with the free targeting setting. If you haven't changed it already that is!

So hold on a sec. You say you can cancel any of your basic attacks into a parry, aka 1 thru 5, but that the animation must finish first. Does this mean if you press Square multiple times that all of those attacks must play out first? So does that mean you must have only hit Square once in order to cancel into Parry after just one attack? Or can you cancel into Parry any time during a basic attack combo?
Once that hit connects with cloud you can switch to Parry! Unless you have the counter stance ability then you can parry anytime!
@@BltzZ Ah, so even if you execute a full combo string, you can parry even after the very first hit of the combo, essentially interrupting it? Or can you only interrupt it mid combo with the Counter Stance?
hey man, how do you unlock new abilities? also if I fight in the coliseum will that level me up?
You have to click on new weapons and read the bottom proficiency tag. It tells you exactly what to do to unlock the abilities. Colliseum will level you up but it's slower than the VR missions in Chapter 17. Also you need 250 SP total to have more skill cores within weapons
Hey Blitz, do you have any tips to help me pull of counterstance more reliably? I manage to pull it off maybe half the time, if that. It must be a timing issue. You only seem to have 1 or 2 seconds at most to get attacked while it's activated for him to counter.

You have to really pay attention to the enemies movements and read that. The best way is to use it mid combo as cloud because enemies sometimes wait for you to finish before striking. I always cancel combos with the counter stance to get the most success rate from it.

Disorder lets you chain the Operator combo directly into the Punisher combo without a pause in between. I usually have it mapped onto Triangle in my Battle Settings (which is the mode switch button for Cloud) because of this.
Everyone knows how useful Triple Slash is against mobs, but where it really shines is in the Jenova Dreamweaver fight. Cloud can really clear all the tentacles en masse with that skill alone.
I got so fed up in that fight i literally just spammed triple slash the entire boss fight to teleport to each tentacle lol
@@BltzZ Also for some of the Materia you recommended for Cloud, I prefer to put on Tifa instead.
First Strike: With the Concentration node from Purple Pain (70% chance of starting at Chi level 2), she has a good chance of needing to use Unbridled Strength only once to start battles at the maximum level 3 Chi for every encounter
ATB Assist: Tifa has more reason than most to repeat ATB commands, between Unbridled Strength (use twice to go from Chi level 1 to 3) and True Strike (dumping all your ATB on a Staggered enemy to build Percentage, and give the rest of the party bonus ATB at the same time)
Yup I agree with you, these aren't sure fire must have materias I'm showcasing for cloud. Just what I personally have on my cloud and tbh most of these have better effects on other characters. Lots of builds depend on the playstyle where for me I don't utilize tifa right away I pressure with cloud then initiate stagger with tifa at chi level 3. Every approach is different tho
Black mage build:
E. Skill linked to HP Absorb and Elemental linked with any element except Ice IMO. Soul Siphon will gain the element linked to Elemental and absorb HP.
Double Magic Up should be equipped.
My Cloud Build: Hardedge. Hp absorb +Deadly Dodge, Elemental+ Fire on sword, ×2 HP up, ATB Stagger, Steadfast Block and First strike.
That's a sexy build I saw HP absorb works on deadly dodge and parry but didn't get a chance to try it out. I definitely will give it a go later thanks for sharing!
Deadly Dodge I think hits 4 or 5 times and with hp absorb you can heal up to around 500Hp at a time

Says that Triple-Strike does more damage than Braver even though the clip used when making that opinion showed Braver out-damage Triple-Strike by 486 damage w/Lightning.
in terms of dps it does out damage it, you are getting out attacks way faster, invulnerability vs many crowd attacks and pressuring most enemies. Check the rufus guide to see how triple slash owns him and you can get a no damage run easily on him
A fine tuning tip for hard mode: It's better to use Iron Blade over Mirthil Blade due to the ability to gain mana from damage taken.

You put it on a character you are not controlling and link it to fire wind ice electric. Then whenever the character you are controlling casts an attack spell, the AI will cast the spell linked with Synergy if they have ATB available. It kinda drops off in usefulness pretty fast cause they only cast the first level (Fire, Blizzard, Aero, Thunder) no matter what level the linked materia is.
