      yeah that's another nice thing about parry materia. you can dodge and I think also block projectiles(?) while in punisher. It does a boatload of damage even to a non-staggered enemy, it hits grouped up people well, it adds good stagger, has super armor and lets you dodge some attacks. FFXV was the beta for FF7R

    • @LVL5esper
      @LVL5esper 3 роки тому +1

      Different team altogether. One is Nomura's team and the other was Tabata's team. FF7R and FFXV were being worked on at the same time. Both Nomura and Tabata scrapped early combat design/concept for their respective games. We can see the difference for XV from the Duscae demo where the 1st prototype was thrown in. Duscae demo plays totally different from the released XV and I daresay looks a lot more fun than the released game's. IMO, Tabata should have polished this design over the end product's even though there was heavy criticisms for the sloppy Duscae version. Especially because it looks like you'll have to manage your movelist and mp vs the single button hold free for all with directional inputs to change combos for the end product. Then there was the platinum demo that was polished several times from beta versions before being released to the public to basically...test it out for Tabata's team so they can make final adjustments to it. Even so, there were a couple things from the Platinum demo that did not make it into the final game which was a disappointment.
      vsXIII, was scrapped all together with only Nomura's project concept for it as a reference which forced Tabata to try and recreate it legitimately for XV. Honestly Tabata did a great job with it imo. Especially if the player constantly swaps between the 4 available weapon slots for Noctis, it will look flashy like Nomura's concept videos, just not as good as Devil May Cry weapon and Style switch ups. The only thing missing was variety and management of skills/magic/MP/items like a JRPG should have. It was basically everything goes and hold easy mode circle button as the easy way out and spam infinite potions. This causes most players to not explore the flashier creativity of the easy to spam and learn combat system for XV.
      Nomura's team for 7R had cyberconnect2 manage the combat design originally until for whatever reason, most likely creative differences, cc2 was removed and a new team was brought in to create the combat from scratch. There was a lot of articles talking about how the 7R team was still hiring for important roles throughout the project all the way up close to release year. So I don't think everything went flawlessly in 7R's development too. If anyone remembers there was an interview with Nomira who said players could stealthly avoid combat all together if the player so wished......yeah, that sure really wasn't an option throughout the game unless the player was backtracking an area for sidequests or treasure and ran away from enemy engagement.

    For Cloud, it’s really useful to guard in Operator, then while guarding and you see the enemy is about to melee you rather than attack you at a distance, hit triangle to go directly into counter at no latency. Keeps you mobile and defensive in between the times you can and want to use his counter guard. :)

      Yeah had to learn this for later bosses *cough*Rufus*cough* it's not productive to stay in punisher mode for long if there's no melee damage coming at you. Using the switching counter is more productive and a good habit for enemies that have both ranged and melee abilities.

    I do want to point out one important thing I discovered about Cloud's Punisher mode: you take a lot more damage from ranged attacks in this mode than in Operator mode. So you need to be conscious of what kind of enemy you're fighting, when to be in Punisher mode and when not to be.

    Magnify + Barrier !! For 20MP and 1 ATB you can cast Manawall on the entire party, halving all damage for a significant duration. A single ether cancels the cost or use aerith with soul drain and passive regen.
    Edit: I have Barret tank with Lifesaver, Steelskin, Steadfast Block, and Chakra, which with Magnified manawall means the party never dies.

    • @aetherblackbolt1301
      @aetherblackbolt1301 4 роки тому +4

      @Captain Caveman not sure what you mean by cheesing Barrier. It's not that amazing without all the other setup involved, so it still needs a competent build. It's super useful for the strong aoe's of boss battles (not just the VR missions). You could just use 3 barrier materia and have each person cast it on themselves for the same potency, it just costs more ATB and MP.
      Team barrier is still useful for a decimated tank due to how lifesaver works. Your ally still takes the damage, but is then healed by the same amount a few millisecond after. So barrier on your allies reduces their damage, and that reduces damage then transfers to Barret. Barrier on Barret is useful due to the game giving high priority aggro to the controlled character, so I don't want to die when I play Barret. It also helps when he's in red health and being attacked, as it makes him survive just long enough for my controlled character's heal to reach him or for him to use Chakra.

    • @aetherblackbolt1301
      @aetherblackbolt1301 4 роки тому +5

      @Captain Caveman materia to slightly improve the AI seem like wastes of materia slots when you can just command them to stuff for you. Auto cure is the largest waste because it's always a level 1 cure and on Hard MP is limited. I don't want them wasting MP and ATB on a cure when I can just use Chakra or Prayer for equal healing and no MP. If someone is in red health where auto cure triggers, I have enough sense to quickly pause and heal appropriately.
      Provoke is also unneeded given that controlling a character aggros enemies, so all I need to do is switch to barret and focus fire. It has no effect on powerful enemies or when controlling, so if I wanna play Barret (which I do a fair chunk of the time) and have to face strong enemies (which is the only place you need strategy and materia slots), provoke seems useless.
      I'd much rather equip a HP Up and MP Up for +4000 HP and + 40 MP than some AI that's worse than what I can do easily.

    • @aetherblackbolt1301
      @aetherblackbolt1301 4 роки тому +3

      @Captain Caveman so yeah I don't know why you're assuming I'm using provoke. The existence of map wide attacks or aoes and being able to switch characters easily to direct aggro makes it not that great imo. And as I explained before, with his lifesaver works, barriers on allies help when you still can't get all the attention.

    • @aetherblackbolt1301
      @aetherblackbolt1301 4 роки тому +3

      @Captain Caveman that sounds like a neat build, I'll try it out. Though purposely going to red on cloud at the start just to get provoke seems like a waste of health and thus ATB/MP to heal back, and aa you said risk of dying if you screw it up.
      There's little need to be condescending about MP coverage and changing stats. I even mentioned HP Up and MP Up so I don't know how you think I don't know about Magic Up and changing stats. Playing through hard hasn't been an issue for me, so assuming I have no idea is a bit much. I have Heal for emergencies when I need larger healing, and yes I know a level 1 can give 6k if you build right, but 1) you can do that yourself without wasting a materia slot to have the AI do that for you,, it seriously only takes a few seconds and button clicks to do 2) I prefer building for higher attack than magic, and 3) ATB is easy enough to generate and I tank damage well enough that the lesser Chakra and Prayer do fine. While it's only 4MP for a cure, save up on casting it 3 times and you've got 12 MP for another spell, so you can go big.
      You say you only had to swap for arenas and VR. I didn't have to swap at all for arenas and the first few VRs (I haven't done the additional VR at shinra yet since I'm doing hard mode in order). So it's working just fine if not better.
      Whenever you complete a chapter on hard and move to the next, it heals and restores MP fully, so you dont need to jump to normal and back to hard like you say. I also cba to save-scum at shinra boxes for MP mako shards, and get dungeons done in one go. Being tactical and mindful in combat means I have no MP problems.
      If I end up stuck with my strat later and find yours better when I try it out, I'll give you fair due. But as is you've not done much to make your case well and just seem like you wanna shit on someone's approach to building a survivable team.

      @@Ldenlord Yeah, Barret's role as a ranged type support character is too crucial to pass up. His melee attacks are so slow and sacrifice a lot of what make him viable. Dude's got the second highest MP behind Aerith if you build him right so you're gonna want to take advantage of that with his far more ATB friendly ranged weapons. He was my secondary and later fulltime support even in the original and here more than ever he really shines in that role because of his ability to hang back. The staggering from afar really helps keep enemies at bay so certain ones don't get to close and chew through your health. Much rather use that built up ATB for a better opportunity than trying to recover lost HP for Barret.

    • @Dr0pDe4DDanny
      @Dr0pDe4DDanny 4 роки тому

      I love using melee Barret. He can single handedly consolidate and take down mobs because his melee overcharge acts like a vacuum. He still builds ATB very fast and since enemy AI loves to focus who you're using I like to front load Barret. First Attack materia on my two teammates, run Barret in and disrupt and stagger the opponents then swarm them with my team for big damage. It works really well on mobs, bosses not so much but that all depends on their movement in comparison to Barret's. It's not ideal and you do lose a lot of what makes Barret unique but it a lot of situations it works and damn well. I love the fact that there is a totally viable and alternate style of play outside of 'Melee or Mage' just wish it extended beyond Barret. Best dude in the game IMO.

    One thing I could not stand in this game is that there was a lot of things that the game didn't help you to figure out how to play. Unless I missed something, I had no idea Tifa could do attack-cancelling and flow like this. I don't want the game handed to me on a silver platter. But there were too many things that, by just playing the game as it's designed, you can't really deduce from the information available. Another example is apparently in the Rufus boss fight, a "certain attack will stagger him instantly". The attack is Braver. But ... why? Why that attack? Why does that make sense? How was I supposed to know that? That's shit design man, I'm sorry.
    Part of the reason why I was confused is because I got the Parry materia and guess what that shit does not do? PARRY! It's a DODGE. That shit made me so upset and that's why you can't reasonably figure stuff out.

    • @ZanZerejin
      @ZanZerejin 4 роки тому +2

      Dunno if you played the original game but Braver is an iconic attack for Cloud, so for me it felt a bit obvious for 2 reasons. The first one I just mentioned and the other, Braver is the only skill you start off with. Knowingly it is the only skill that a player has with certainty makes it a bit obvious that it is the skill refered to.

      Idk... if you've played IX, X, XII, all of the XIII trilogy and done savage raids in XIV, this combat system is pretty self-explanatory.
      - Either switch or give commands often to suit the situation like in X and XII
      - Figure out how to stagger shit like in Lightning Returns
      - Figure out the mechanics and dodge the garbage like XIV
      - Different weapons / abilities have different purposes like the roles/outfits in the XIII games
      - Get your materia loadout right like the equip skills in IX
      With those being the big cornerstones of the system, the intricacies are pretty easy to deduce. Every character's optimal playstyle is made super clear by their skill binded to triangle, so aside from having to experiment a ton to fudge out the combo system and some questionable enemy mechanics there's not much I see wrong with it.
      It's basically every good thing about other FF games cooked into a single system with VII as the soup base.

    Very nice guide man.. battle mechanics in this game is the best.. the elemental to shield or wpn is an old one, its in the original, the orig ff7 have some crazy materia builds as well..

    Great video, dude. I am nearly done with my first playthrough and thought I was fairly decent at this game... this video has proven otherwise. Well done.

    I’d like to add one. I crush all boss in hard mode using the LB item from 7* fight+Refocus+haste. I had 2 hard mode run all manuscripts with not much difficulty. I love the game because you can play it in many different ways and be successful.

    I knew most of the stuff you said, but man you handle tifa like a god. I always have trouble using her because I don’t know how to use her techniques more effectively. Thanks for the tips!
