I believe I do have a short video on my channel on how to do this. Quite simply, you go on the Garmin connect website and you can import a downloaded file. From there once you synchronize your watch, it will show up as a course.
Thanks for the review! I’m geeking out on these and wondering how much I’d miss my Apple Watch but I’m thinking this paired with my InReach mini2 would be an awesome combo for hiking. The sale right now is tempting. How much would I kick myself if I got one and they came out with a new one right after? How often do they come out with new designs?
I've helped a few friends convert from Apple watches to Garmins. All of them have been blown away by the Garmin watches and the features that are included. If you absolutely must have Siri, you should look at the Venu line. If a speaker and microphone is not a necessity for you, then you could use Garmin's watch picker to help you decide on a model. There are lots of options depending on what activities you like to do. You might not need all of the features of the Epix.
I have an ultra and just purchased this one and plan on wearing both. One is a smart watch, the other is a sport watch. I like the convenience of both. Just my personal preference.

Hi there. The maps are already on the watch. You need to load specific routes though. I have a video showing how to do that on my channel. Search for it. 👍. Plans are in the works for setup. Thanks for watching.
Has anyone addressed why the EPIX PRO will not show the actual BPM in the heart rate zone setup menu? It only shows percentages, and it seems like the EPIX is the only watch that this has changed on.
Nothing beats a chest strap, and after having the AWU (for Sheila when it first came out), the AWU had a better sensor (for me). Still good for a wrist base though. I’d say second best of all the devices I have ever had (other than the chest strap).
@@Dogwalkerdave yes the Apple Watches I have had are very close to a hr strap for me in the weight room or hiit type workouts. Runs basically identical. I had a forerunner 255 that was very close also. Had the original instinct and it wasn't close. But I really like the Fenix/epix series so I am considering one of them or an Apple Watch Ultra in the next couple months.
@@brettbrunsell5769 hard to go wrong with the Epix. It will be interesting to see if we have a Fenix 8 soon and what Apple will do with V3 - it needs to be ‘better’ meaning last longer. Most of us don’t need a watch that will go weeks without charging and have 40+ hours GPS on but it is nice to have.
@@Dogwalkerdave exactly. I think we will see the Fenix 8 (hope) around the same time as the new ultra. Apple needs to get to at least 20 hours in gps and 4-5 days as a watch. That would be more than enough for most of us. They don't even have 24/7 hr monitoring so you would think that would help with battery life. I've tried quite a few of the 3rd party training and recovery apps and none of them are close to what Garmin has built in. I know the new watchOS will have more of that but still doesn't look close to as detailed as Garmin
Agreed on all points. There needs to be more work done on the native workout app - at least allow more customization (ie., show 2,3 or 4 fields of data, allow more data pages, etc.). thanks for sharing your insights. Cheers!
I bought standard epix pro non saphire , and put on 3€ gorilla glass , And saved 100€ because it Is waste of money on latest models , a lot peoples complained that saphire quallity on fb group scratched screen , is worse as it was on fenix 5-6 series . And saphire means is scratchproof , not unbreakable.
I agree that sapphire is NOT scratch proof. I have had excellent durability on all of my sapphire watches, but that’s my experience. Glad the gorilla glass screen protector worked out!

@@Dogwalkerdave I don't remember where, but one watchmaker compared the hardness of sapphire. Garmin clearly saved on materials for the new models. Just look at the fenix 5 sapphire box, a beautiful premium box with leather inside , and an epix piece of paper box for $1000. Unfortunately, "ecology" is a modern term, as manufacturers save money these days and sell an equally expensive product. Well, they wouldn't have to do that with such an expensive watch. But if I don't look at it, the watch is still excellent and a huge jump in functions in 6-7 years :)

I had one other question Do you turn the GPS off and on as you need it or is it constantly running? And is the phone face blank and then you tap it to turn it on? What are some of your secrets??
Gps only runs when you are in an activity. You can set the screen to turn on when you use wrist gestures to save battery. @@Dogwalkerdave thank you very much and also I was wondering while backpacking does it automatically add weight of the backpack and slowly take off as you eat your food or do you need to manually do that
To design a round Smartwatch or smart Sportwatch makes no sense, or is there a round Smartphone on the market. The watches in the past were only round because of the two pointers, turning cyrclewise. The Garmin Epix or Fenix watches are too pulky, too big to sleep with it. Epix an Fenix watches have no cellular, this alone is for me a no go.
@@Dogwalkerdave if you try other brands and add same amount of POI on each it will still be most laggy, otherwise mapping is very good so hopefully they speed up those maps in future 💪🏽
Sapphire is a terrible glass! Gorilla Glass DX is much better. To understand this, simply compare side to side. Even in your video you can see how mirror it is! And in terms of strength, Gorilla has long been no worse than sapphire.

Great video, can you please explain how to put gpx map into garmin in order to follow the course?
I believe I do have a short video on my channel on how to do this. Quite simply, you go on the Garmin connect website and you can import a downloaded file. From there once you synchronize your watch, it will show up as a course.
And thank you for the positive comment! Your support is appreciated
Ah i see it has to be on my comp not on the mob app. Once i do this i can track my activity and follow map at the same time? Thanks for the answer.
@@brankoknezevic9569 I could be wrong but don’t believe you can add from the app. My pleasure.
@@brankoknezevic9569 and yes you will be able to follow the trail with turn by turn navigation.
@@VernL4 I’d agree with all points!
I have an ultra and just purchased this one and plan on wearing both. One is a smart watch, the other is a sport watch. I like the convenience of both. Just my personal preference.
@@tejasflo7076 I’ve had the Ultra but until it gets better battery and a few other things right, it’s Garmin for me. That and my wife might leave me if I have too many devices 😆
great watches, id like to buy 47 mm version. I am ready for adventure.
You won’t regret buying one. They are excellent. All the best with your adventures!!
I'm getting one in a week or so and it's my first smartwatch I'm a little freaked out because I'm not very techy! I'm a long distance hiker having through hike many long trails in the country and I'm wondering if those trails are already downloaded onto this watch? And also if you could do a setup video or if you have one lead me to that direction thank you!

@@dhg903 haven’t heard.
Two questions: 1) Is it a good idea to buy a used Garmin watch? 2) Would you buy a used Epix Gen2 Pro Saphire for $400?
@@RezaAlizadeh-l4e gen 2 pro for $400. That’s seems quite inexpensive. Where are you located?
How accurate is the HR sensor when compared to the AWU or a chest strap? I feel like everyone says the AW has the best hr sensor. Thanks
@@Dogwalkerdave I owned 6 years fenix 5 plus dlc titan saphire , bezel was complete smashed and scratched as outdoor watch :D , used it every day as mechanic and sometimes on building constructions work , after 6 years screen has maybe 2-3 little scratches, bulletproof watch . But If I saw on FB garmin group how peoples complained about quallity of new saphire , and how easy is scratch it and was time to upgrade my watch , I bought standard epix .And I am happy, If its dlc or carbon or saphire coat you will sratch it anyway . After 6 months is even screen protector like new , and have another 9 spare pieces if I smash this one 😂
That’s the thing about sapphire. It is never the same, and it’s good to see you have had excellent experiences in the past with it and put it through the wringer. Hard to tell if it is Garmin using a different lens or?? All the best with your Epix. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. Appreciate the support!
@@davidvitez9357 if I remember correctly, Jerry rig everything did a comparison but I could be mistaken. I agree, anything to make a few extra dollars. By making products with less superior components and materials.
Thanks Dave!
Do you find it too thick?
My pleasure David (or Dave). I don’t sleep with a watch on and I’m used to the larger ones. The thickness isn’t an issue for me. Thanks for watching, appreciate the support.
I had one other question Do you turn the GPS off and on as you need it or is it constantly running? And is the phone face blank and then you tap it to turn it on? What are some of your secrets??
Gps only runs when you are in an activity. You can set the screen to turn on when you use wrist gestures to save battery. Instructions are in the owners manual but I’ll link it here:: www8.garmin.com/manuals-apac/webhelp/epix/EN-SG/GUID-9B2DEA92-711A-43A8-972A-B7A7AC5D8DDB-7738.html#:~:text=Select%20Alerts%20to%20turn%20on,before%20the%20screen%20turns%20off.
@@Dogwalkerdave thank you very much and also I was wondering while backpacking does it automatically add weight of the backpack and slowly take off as you eat your food or do you need to manually do that
@@sarahsundstrom1425 no it does not and I don’t believe any device does. You have to manually adjust your weight in the garmin app.
What do you think about this compared to the tactix 7 Amoled?

How can such an expensive watch, have a crappy strap?
@@davidbanner7813 I have found Garmin straps to be pretty good overall but that’s just my experience.
To each their own 👍
Those maps are very slow reacting, laggy compass there
@@jaykkosmic2136 they are actually quite good but showing in an area where there was a lot of POI which slows everything down
@@Dogwalkerdave if you try other brands and add same amount of POI on each it will still be most laggy, otherwise mapping is very good so hopefully they speed up those maps in future 💪🏽

Hello from Calgary!
Sapphire is a terrible glass!
Gorilla Glass DX is much better. To understand this, simply compare side to side.
Even in your video you can see how mirror it is!
And in terms of strength, Gorilla has long been no worse than sapphire.
It is not as good for viewing but will have to disagree on durability (at least with my experience). Everyone has their own preference tho 👍
