Thank you for this video and the link! Our Jetta fuel door just started sticking the other day! Part arrived this morning and an hour later, we're back to normal!👍
You can just pry it open when the vehicle is unlocked. The key will just fit between the body & the fuel door. Twist the key in the gap & the door will pop open. To not scratch the paint simply wrap a rag or something similar around the key. At some point you’ll want to replace the actuator switch, but you shouldn’t find yourself stranded at a gas station if you do this. ❤
Thanks for the video. 3 Volkswagens in the family with little crap like this all the time. Volkswagen and seems everyone else is aware of all these issues and doesn’t support the customer at all. By By Volkswagen.
The only way that worked for me was to lock and unlock the car several times until the actuator finally worked. Just lock the car, tap the fuel door a couple times, and unlock until it finally opens.
I have a 2016 Jetta. No issues with this yet, but don’t wanna get stuck at gas station ever with door that will not open. How about just disconnecting the actuator when in the “open” position and leaving it that way for good? Would avoid ever getting stuck, which is greater risk than someone stealing gas from my tank or similar. Thoughts?
mine froze up at fuel station went back home the quick fix for it. was i grabed a tall cup of hot water poured it over the lid slowly and lid popped back out. lubed it up hopefully wont happen again.
Yo- i got an 07 jetta my gas lid wont open automatically when i try to unlock it from the bottom of my driver door anything i should know about? I'd really appreciate it, Its my first time trying to figure out the VW lol
Just keep unlocking and locking with the keyfob till it releases. May take several tries. There's not much any other way without damaging the fuel door.
Installed the actuator and it doesn't work still, anything else it could be or am I missing something? Part works uninstalled, the actuator moves. uninstalled it and just attached to the fuel door before reinstalling the fuel door it works, but once I put it in the car with the fuel door reattched it doesn't work
When the latch starts to fail, it works intermittently. I used the keyfob to lock and unlock the doors (which triggers the actuator) until it finally released. Once open, don't close the fuel door till it's fixed. As for the different trunk, you may have a different year/model VW. The switch location should be the same.
Thank god I searched this video before I rage ripped my fuel door off
It's 3:00am in the mountains halfway through an overnight haul and I feel the same way.
same man i punched tf out of mine and ended up denting it XD
I tore the whole piece off the button 😭 I’m done!!!
i tore mine off
Well done man
I'm in Egypt with same car and I have same issue now I'm sure i can do it my self
Thanks alot

Should the process be the same for the Passat models?

Hi, do you have a video for a mk7? Lol they changed the mk7 a little I belive.

Is the fuel door still an issue on the newer Jettas???
Yo- i got an 07 jetta my gas lid wont open automatically when i try to unlock it from the bottom of my driver door anything i should know about? I'd really appreciate it, Its my first time trying to figure out the VW lol
How do you open the fuel door if it wont open? jetta 2016

Hmm, double check you have the correct part. Verify its mounted correctly.
Ok but how did you open the door to get to the switch an the inside of our trunk looks different then yours
When the latch starts to fail, it works intermittently. I used the keyfob to lock and unlock the doors (which triggers the actuator) until it finally released. It does the exact same thing with the new one, only works intermittently. :(
Why do these cars have so many issues?
Plastic parts not built for high mileage use.
Because VWs are pure garbage! Ask any mechanic that works on them for a living.
I should have stuck with Toyota...
Should the process be the same for the Passat models?
