  • Top 5 guppy breeding tips. Here are my top five tips for breeding guppy fish. Fancy Guppies are a great way to start breeding for profit or just to do guppy fish fish breeding. They are easy fish to keep and fancy guppies are fun to watch. With my 5 guppy fish breeding tips, you will find an easy way to breed guppies.
    5. Good Food-Guppies are omnivores and like both plants and meat in their diet. A good quality flake food like Northfin or Cobalt will be fine.
    4. Clean Water-Guppies will breed much better in clean fresh water.
    3. Lots of hiding places-When guppy fish are born they are small and tender and delicious! They need places to hide. I like to use Java Moss or other floating plants like Cabomba or Christmas Moss.
    2. Good Filtration-I like to use over sized sponges for aquarium filtration in my guppy breeding tanks. This gives a place for the Beneficial Bacteria to grow and place for the guppy fry to get a quick meal.
    1. Good Quaility Breeding Stock-You need to start with good quality and healthy breeding stock. Find a breeder or shop that cares for the fish. Look for Guppie

      This is how I do it but I keep the males and females separate and then pair the virgin females with chosen male in a tub for a day or 2 and yhen just put them back. I raise the fry with the adult females and separate the males when they are old enough to ID. I have never had a problem with fry getting eaten, even after heavy trimming of plants.

    great list & love the blooper reel! ^_^ have you tried using Pothos roots for breeding hiding spots? I've been experimenting with it by trimming the roots and make the roots become more... bushy. The best result I've been getting for breeding guppies been having guppy grass or something like dwarf water lettuce that grows long roots down.

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  4 роки тому +2

      Azasu! I have pothos in many tanks and let the roots grow naturally, but have never tried to alter them. Does your water lettuce grow inside?

      @@MichaelsFishRoom water lettuce do well in my tanks. I think it's because of the surface agitation is very minimal. Another thing I started doing was making a ring with an air tube and keep the floating plants away from box filter or sponge filter. :)

    Ok I get what's in the kelp and krill, but what's in the cichlid food? I ask because mine get a wide variety of food and I don't want to miss any nutrients.
    Currently: xtreme krill, fluval spirulina, Easy Fry, insuforia, mosquito larvae, and occasionally baby brine. Occasionally a piece of carrot or zucchini. Less than once per week on the fresh veg for water quality reasons.

  • @tjrbrownell

    Hey brother what I find with guppy grass and might help with yours, is that less water changes help's with its growth I'm all about creating a great natural cycle, because brother I have it growing up the wazoo you should throw some out with the summer tubs and you'll see it will do incredible. Also the fry tend to by nature to school near the top of the water column in nature one of those traits that is built in its DNA. I have plants on top and bottom they chose for the most part to group up in the top a great hiding spot Just a thought and a comment.

    If I am not able to add plants in a breeding tank I will use an artificial vine that will fill up one side of the tank. Seems to have worked for my tanks for years now. I had rather use live plants but if I am going to be pulling fry on a regular basis I had rather have a plant I can pull out and put back in without damaging it.

    • @tjrbrownell
      @tjrbrownell 4 роки тому +1

      Guppy grass works great too let it float instead of planting it creates a big mop for the fry also the benefits of helping cycle the tank.

    • @jlathem56
      @jlathem56 4 роки тому

      Yeah on the breeding tanks I have live plants in, I tend to use guppy grass. Both floating and planted but trimmed where there is only a couple inches high. It eats up a lot of nitrates. For me the only down side (and it's not much of them) is that some of the guppies tend to get pulled with the live grass when I pull it from the tank. Not a huge deal for 5 or 6 tanks taking only 6 or 7 minutes per tank to swish about the grass to get the fry out of it then net them and get them to the intended tanks. But when you have 30+ breeding tanks little things like this tends to eat up a fair amount of your time.

    Second question: I know you use calcium carbonate, I think crushed coral. What carbonate do they really need? My water is very hard, but there's no calcium or magnesium(gh 0) and also no potassium(per response from plants). So I add these as sulfates. I suspect my water is very similar to Girl Talks Fish, actually.
    The decision is if I should use ro for the guppies, and then add coral, or just use a little tap or season the ro with a little ro waste water, which you would know is mostly wasting carbonates.

    Hey Michael, i have a handsome male guppy with some very unique coloring. He has perfect Tequila Sunrise fins, but his body has the color pallet of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" instead of the typical white. I am playing with a few different females to see what colors i can get out of their offspring. The first batch is due this week. Wish me luck fishy friends!
