Here is my 2 cents as an old man. The courses (RIP vs RASP) may have changed in duration and scope but the Ranger mentality has not. The reality is, the selection process is an initiation into a brotherhood. When you arrive at your batt the real work begins. You will be smoked relentlessly and treated like shit to break you down and rebuild you as the Ranger you are meant to be. That is why back in the day it was the Ranger Indoctrination Program (notice -- Indoctrination in the title it's there for a reason). I read through the comments and noticed a common theme. How the f*ck do I prepare for this shit storm that is coming. 1) you should be able to MAX the PT test as well as chin ups/pull ups (10 minimum). When you get to BN you will be required to put your feet on a rock outside the barracks and knock out 25 as well as 10 pull ups every time you pass the bars -- when you get to JBLM (2/75) at least (can't speak for the girls in GA). 2) Get used to walking around with weight on your back and be capable of rucking 12 miles with load in under 3 hours before you walk through the door at RASP. It will toughen your feet, shoulders and back. 3) keep your mouth shut and ears open -- Don't be the reason your squad is a shit show. 4) Don't worry about your phone. Jodie is going to be destroying the backdoor of whatever cum guzzling gutter slut you may be calling baby momma... except it and focus on the task at hand. Let your butt buddy manage your farmville app or whatever other bullshit you feel you need your phone for. 5) It is a mental game and the mentality that you can't smoke a rock will make sense. The cadre that are training you all come from BN and they don't want some shitbag squeeking through that is going to get good men killed because they are too weak or their clit got a little sand in it from being plowed to rough in the sand pit. So.... if you make it through selection remember that it is the first step towards the real work ahead which will happen when you walk under the scroll and through the door. You will be marginally prepared for that shit storm that is going to fall on you.

What are Your Opinions On Going to Rasp At The age of 18 and after Basic. I have an Option 40 contract, Ranger, Airborn. This is everything I want, But to be honest, I don’t think I’m Mentally Ready and I can just feel it in my Gut that I will fail But I’m hoping that Just going to Basic it’s self will change that. ThatGuyKaos Hi there. Sorry for the late reply I need to get better at monitoring UA-cam. There’s no right or wrong answer. Here’s the most important thing. Be ready. A lot of the guys that fail RASP and RANGER SCHOOL do so because they’re not physically or mentally ready. Remember this. All special operations training is doable. You get physically ready buy training hard, you get mentally strong by getting physically strong.

ThatGuyKaos If you go to RASP at 18/19 make sure you’re ready before you even hit basic. There are many ways to do this. I can help there if you’re interested as well.

RASP and RANGER school training is brutal. What rangers show on UA-cam doesn’t represent how harsh it really is and they do this on purpose. We take OP security very serious unlike other spec ops groups, and regiment strings along dis information cause they’re always looking for 100 percent and then some. Not 99.9 percent and then some. Example. RASP is fucking brutal. It’s not a stepping stone for ranger school. It’s about even but BOTH ARE DIFFERENT GUT CHECKS! Dudes that complete rasp fail ranger school and ranger school guys fail rasp. If you Complete one of these 2 schools odds are you will make the other one but y’all get my point. Ranger training has always been a mind fuck. Most guys don’t even go straight through selection. Yes gents, I said selection. If you are one of the few that makes it through the first time it’s still up to the instructors to select you or not. Then your own peers evaluate you, and 2 guys from every squad have to go. This is why rangers are the best in the world. Physically tough, mentally tough, academically tough, most important competent. This is why we always have to rescue seals,. They do stupid shit and are not as ruthless. Rangers are killers, savages. But they are overly competent...ALL THIS SAID, THE TRAINING IS DOABLE AND DONT FALL FOR THE HYPE AND GET SCARRED. IF YOU DONT LISTEN TO PEOPLE THAT SAY YOU CANT, and believe yourself, you will be just fine....I need to start making videos.

I was told by a guy who just went through and passed RASP (and confirmed it on Gritty Ranger's channel), the RFT requirements recently changed to this:
    Hand release pushups (41 minimum)
    Plank (2:35 seconds)
5 mile run (under 40 min)
    Chin ups (6 minimum)
12 mile road march in 3 hours or less w/ 35lb dry ruck and gear

@@trissren4401 I don't remember hearing anything about land nav (so I assume it wasn't a big deal for him) and I asked him about the water survival assessment because I'm not a strong swimmer and he said it was really easy compared to other stuff and not to worry about it.
If everything goes to plan I should be going to RASP in like 8 months so I can let you know how it goes then haha.
The main takeaways I got from the conversation were that while it isn't easy, it isn't impossible and as long as you meet the pre-rasp requirements you will be capable of passing. He also pretty much said "just don't be a bitch about it and you will make it". I'm pretty sure he said most failures were people who quit and not due to a lack of ability to continue training. Some were medical and probably some from being underprepared physically, but most were voluntary quitters

@@ChickentNug whats the pipeline like to go to rasp? Im going to speak with a recruiter tomorrow and im kinda afraid to ask for option 40 lol. Can u tell me how u went through that process and how hard u had to study for the asvab jus to get the job

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug Рік тому

@@trissren4401 sure. I don't blame you for being nervous and I was too. Sorry for the massive message, but it kind of needs to be so I can clarify everything:
What might work for you could be different than what might work for me, so don't just do this because I did, but I actually just got a contract to ensure I got the MOS I wanted (68W) and Airborne school (Option 4, not Option 40). My recruiter helped me decide on that because the Army changed how the pipeline works for Option 40s in the last few years.
The way Option 40s work now is Basic training>AIT(or OSUT)>RASP>Airborne
Instead of Airborne being before RASP, it's after now.
They did this because a lot of people in the past went in with Option 40s and backed out as soon as they passed Airborne and didn't even attend RASP. The only issue is that with this pipeline, if you don't actually pass RASP, you will be assigned to a "regular" (not Airborne) unit in big Army. So with Option 40, the big upside is that you are guaranteed attendance at RASP and the downside is you are not guaranteed Airborne school.
My recruiter helped me decide on an Option 4 because while RASP isn't 100% guaranteed, cadre and recruiters will reach out to your classes at both AIT(or OSUT) and after Airborne School and ask if there are any people who want to go to RASP. From pretty much everyone I've talked to that has experience with this, they've said that you are pretty much just as likely to get to go to RASP this way because the volunteers are going in to replace people who backed out of their Option 40s, and there are always a bunch of people who do that. So assuming it works out how it is supposed to, the Option 4 pipeline for me looks like: Basic Training > AIT > Airborne School (guaranteed) > RASP (not guaranteed but very likely).
This way, I will be assigned to the 82nd Airborne no matter what according to my contract and I can leave once I am ready to go to RASP. Also, if I don't pass selection, I will be sent back to the Airborne unit I was already in before going to RASP in the first place and I will still be able to be an Airborne medic. Even if for whatever reason I'm not able to request RASP during AIT or Airborne, I can still contact the 75th's recruiters and I can get in to RASP that way. Also if you don't pass selection, you're allowed to retry in like 6 or 8 months or something (regardless of what contract you have), so it isn't that huge of a deal if I don't make it through.
So for me personally, Option 4 was a better choice than Option 40 and my contract guarantees that no matter what I will be a 68W and in an Airborne unit (which I was told by the counselor at MEPS would be the 82nd Airborne).
Depending on your MOS (or just what you want to do) this might not be a concern, but I was also told by a few people that Airborne units are more likely to be line units, so as a medic I will be more likely to be assigned to an infantry unit and less likely to be stuck working in a field hospital (which is kind of 50/50 with my MOS in non-airborne units). So I will still be pretty happy with where I end up if I don't pass selection for the Rangers.
It depends on what your motivation is, though and what matters more to you. Do you want to be 100% certain that you will have an opportunity to be a Ranger and not sure you will be able to jump out of planes, or do you want to be 100% certain you will be able to jump out of planes and not certain you will be a Ranger?

    • @ChickentNug

@@trissren4401 for the ASVAB part of the question, to be honest I got lucky and scored pretty well both times I've taken it (I took it Sophomore year of HS and Senior year, since your ASVAB score only applies for 2 years after the test date).
The ASVAB is kind of like taking the SAT but with more questions about general and kind of random knowledge things like how electronics work (and units related to them like Watts, Amps, and Ohms), auto and shop/ mechanical stuff (like gear ratios, pulleys, car parts, tool identification), and some other stuff like that on top of math, science, and reading.
The last 3 for me were pretty easy because it's pretty much just stuff you learn in school, and the other stuff wasn't hard because honestly I'm kind of a geek and have spent a metric assload of time on UA-cam over the years watching videos on how that kind of stuff works.
There are also a lot of good apps on mobile and websites on pc that you can use to do practice ASVAB tests. That way you can see how you scored and find out what areas you're lacking in. I think you can schedule a more official practice test with your recruiter, too, and it will be more accurate
So make sure you do practice tests to see (pretty roughly, they aren't identical to the real tests) how you will do and find what areas you're not doing as well in. Then, just look shit up on UA-cam and teach yourself concepts in that field (like if you're not doing super well in auto/shop, watch videos on the different parts of cars or videos on the different types of valves that exist).
I'm not a very smart person but I scored 92 on the AFQT (like the main score thing separate from the smaller scores for specific areas), which is a pretty decent score. I think the biggest reasons I got a good score were that I found the areas I sucked in and improved them. It's not really as much about how smart you are as a person (because I'm not far off average) and more about how much random shit you know. Some people will need to study a bunch to get a score they like and some don't really need to study at all.
Just practice enough that you are confident you will do good enough to meet the requirement for your chosen MOS (and the required GT composite score for RASP which you can look up online I forgot what it is) and make sure you take the test without test anxiety.
You'll do fine, it really isn't that hard as long as you practice first.

A few years late to this vid, but i'm currently in AIT @ Fort Gordon for signal, doing RASP PT with cadre here. Planning on opting for RASP at Airborne at the end of next month, and I really appreciate this vid you made. I'm currently one of those guys that barely meets the minimum for scores (59 PU, 70 SU, 38-39 5M, and 13 Chin ups), and was always so amazed by some of the cadre that come by. I'm 5'6 and 160, and some of the cadre that come by and help out with PT are small even by my standards, and then you see why they made it to Regiment. Their mental toughness is actually the most intimidating and motivating thing i've ever seen. It's easy to get disheartened by watching YT vids of 6'3, chiseled jaw, Hercules looking motherfuckers with a tan beret thinking there is no way this 5'6 kid could do it, and then i get proven wrong every day by regular guys that push just a little harder than everyone else and prove its possible. It's cool to see someone who made it so far into RASP that had roughly the same level of fitness (by PT score standards). I am thankful for you uploading this.

I know of a person who made it to the day of class up and got dropped for psych likely due to age. He was invited back in 24 months, but then given NTR for missing formation. Others were dropped that day as well, but again invited back in 24 months. They felt betrayed in terms of the time spent during pre-RASP, only to be dropped with bags in hand. Another guy was dropped for seemingly being disliked by one of the cadre. Yet another quit because he was told after 8 weeks, he'd have to do a psych interview and wait another 5 weeks. You have to remind yourself that this is a fraternity. You can give it your all, and if they don't see you as Ranger type, you'll be dropped. You're invited back to prove how bad you want it, again just like a fraternity. It may crush your ego to be rejected from it, but the initiation process and even the culture seem toxic. Maybe not getting indoctrinated is a win for some. Just food for thought.

Is the ranger fitness test timed or something you’re not the first guy to fail that sorry to hear. But sounds like you got your head on strong and are moving on

It is timed, 2 minutes for push-ups, 2 minutes for sit-ups, 40 minutes for the 5 mile run and there is not time limit for the chin-ups.
