    Great video thank you. You suggest changing gear oil every 'trip' whereas most outboards recommend changing the oil each season. Do you mean that if you go out 5 times in a week you actually change the gear oil 5 times?

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  7 років тому

      I did that as the Hangkai is a small outboard which require little gear oil, on top of that I don't use expensive marine grade gear oil. The cheap gear oil definitely won't last long and that's why I recommended a replacement after each trip. The procedure is very simple as well for this Hangkai.

    Hi. Thanks for sharing this excellent video. I have the same motor which was working fine till yesterday. I noticed that the shaft became very hot and I switched it off immediately. It was a long row back to shore but I didn't want to try starting the motor in case i cooked it. I can turn the motor ok with the starter cord so I know it's not siezed. Do you have any thoughts where I start first please?

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  8 років тому

      It could be the water cooling system got jammed. Try dimmable the lower unit then dismantle the shaft housing and the water impeller housing, there might be some sand or dirt trapped inside, check the water hose as well, make sure it is smooth flowing.

    Excellent, I just bought Marine Intex along with Hangkai 3.5 HP engine.. The engine is new, but last night gave some trouble while I want to start it... After couple of hands... Started working, then again gave same issue and after couple of time started working.. I thought may be due to the file mixing with the oil cause this issues... The manual doesn't have any indication what's oil level must be mixed... Any idea?
    Also, there is a side switch Down is ON and Up is OFF, what is the used of this button..?
    Thanks,

      Wow! I think I missed this comment, it's been a month and I am so sorry about that and hopefully my reply can help you a little.
      Do you refer to the gas/petrol mixture? For a new engine the mixture is 1 portion of 2T to 30 protion of gas/petrol.
      The side switch is the Air Vent for the carburetor, turn it off on the initial start up, turn it back on when you are ready to move.

      +Fishing Adventures of NorthernHardcoreFisherman thanks for your reply.. I do have additional questions with regards to the Gear movement.. all of the sudden the propeller stopped moving when I accelerate... any comments or tips to check why this is happening..? I do have open the the Gear and changed the oil I also removed the entire shaft cleaned it with WD40 and started moving but still when I accelerate it doesn't move at all... any help please? thanks

      +TheHabibalby
      Try to manually spin your propeller, if you can't spin it or needed a lot of strength, changes are the drive shaft jammed.
      My Hangkai was down during my last trip and sent it to a workshop for repair, the foreman couldn't figure out what causes the jam. I brought it back home decided to strip it to the bare bone and I found out that the drive shaft was jammed at the Water Impeller Housing.
      The silicon bushing needed to be cleaned, you need to remove the lower unit and remove the worm gears. You might need to polish the drive shaft as well.
      The drive shaft should be able to spin easily after it was cleaned or polished.
      I will make another video on the repairing of that jammed drive shaft soon.

    Hey, i just bought one and it starts fine but the propeller wont move. The small shaft in there wont move, is that supoosed to do that or does it need wd 40 to lossen up since its brand new maybe paint or whatever making it stick?

    • @sailingto
      @sailingto 4 роки тому

      Did you ever figure out that problem of the prop not moving? I just bought this motor and it’s doing the same thing. It will run but the prop does not engage. It seems difficult to rotate by hand when the motor is off.

    • @greato80
      @greato80 4 роки тому

      @@sailingto ..well my poblem was i didnt give it enough throttle. Once i did it worked. I think u need to turn throttle least half way to 3/4 way for it to start engaging. Id turn it barely o bout quarter way thinking itd start moving right away and it didnt. Also set it on a chair and set prop in a tote of water then try starting it to test it, unless u have it on boat and in water already.

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  7 років тому

      Robert S I did it before the first ride, it should be done after every trip out but I didn't. The cleaning or flushing is also very important, my Hangkai was down due to pro-long servicing

      Nonetheless, thanks for the heads up, this minute info is very helpful !

    • @robsanty
      @robsanty 7 років тому +1

      Just my thought, you maybe better off using a silicone 3-in-1 lubricant to clean the gear oil box as the WD-40 (clone) residue can still sip off through the gasket that might affect its effectiveness rendering water to mix with the oil (resulting to a foamy milky white mixture) that could affect the gear efficiency .

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  7 років тому

      Robert S That should be the correct way, however I do not have that item and that's why I use wd40. Anyway, it's advisable to replace gear oil after every use, it wouldn't cost much.

    I have this same motor.. taken it out a few times, and have tried to tinker with it, as I find it stalls after a few minutes on throttle. The engine gets super hot so I think that is why it's stalling. After a few minutes of cooling down, it starts up again and runs for another few minutes. I have taken it apart and did not see anything blocking the water line that is supposed to keep it cool.. Took it out on the water again this weekend, and same issues. Advice??

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  8 років тому

      When u start the engine on the sea, did u see any water flowing out fr the drainage hole? it might be the impeller (the star shape rubber) inside the housing that's install incorrectly or faulty. u need to remove the whole lower unit housing to inspect it

    • @catdaddyz6464
      @catdaddyz6464 8 років тому

      I have it in a garbage can, and have noticed that when I put it on throttle, it does not have a full out stream of water coming out the back hole... rather, air with spits of water here and there....

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  8 років тому

      +Ryan Young
      Don't think we would be able to see a full stream of water flowing out just like the Yamaha but at least there's water coming out meaning everything is good. Next maybe u might want check on the drive shaft to see if there is any corrosion and lastly make sure ur gas mixture is correct as the engine required 30:1 ratio, lower ratio might cause overheating as well

    • @catdaddyz6464
      @catdaddyz6464 8 років тому

      Ok, so upon looking closer, I don't see water coming out. The motor gets very hot and cuts out after a couple minutes of running on throttle. I tried to get to the impeller but the bolts on the bottom were on too tight to take off...

      Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Firstly I would like to apologize for the delay on uploading new video, it's has been a busy month and I was held up with some personal issues, (P.S. I couldn't afford doing this full time, at least not yet.) hope you can understand, thanks.
      The motor is quite reliable as my engine still in working condition. The only thing you need to take note is you have to do a thorough cleaning and flushing after salt water usage, I didn't and I regretted as many parts of my motor are having corrosion. Currently it is down even after some self repair on the water impeller unit as well as polishing the drive shaft. I suspect it's the Auto Clutch that's giving way. Will update here once I get it fixed.
      Cheers!

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  7 років тому

      Robert S The motor should be placed vertically when it is kept in store. This is to prevent gear oil leakage. The carburetor might have some fuel remained inside, it will also sipped out if the motor is placed horizontally.

      Sorry for the late reply, I just saw your messages.
      Thanks for the comments and I am glad that it helped you.
      I bought the Gear Box Oil from the Petrol Kiosks, it is not engine oil you should buy. It cost a bit more expensive over there and you can get it from the automobile spare parts shop at a cheaper price.
      The Red thing are you refer to the Grease? I got it from the Local hardware Store and I specifically ask for HEAVY DUTY Grease, some people use Marine grease which cost a bomb.
      I don't have the link and in fact you don't need the name of the brand (if you are refer to it) Just tell the shopkeeper what you need and why you need it for, this is how I did it.

    • @FishingAdvNHF
      @FishingAdvNHF  9 років тому +1

      If I am correct I think you are referring to the grease which I applied it on to the propeller shaft and the oil seal. You can but any kind of grease from any hardware store or you can buy the expensive marine grease. Maybe you can try to search in eBay or Aliexpress, these online store do sell those stuff.
      For the interval of oil replacement I would suggest you do it after 10 hours of usage, depending on the grade of the oil you are using. I am using the lower grade gear box oil hence I do a oil change every 10 hours of usage.
      You are most welcome to ask anything and I would answer all you questions, provided I have the knowledge.
