Thanks for the great video it was very helpful. Keep up the good work👍
Thank you I appreciate the compliment
Couple of drinks and you might think you are out on the water after listening to the motor long enough.
I sure did and so did the neighbors lmao , thanks for your comments.
I bought one of these to see how bad they were, a while ago while they were just over $150.. 2 days after getting mine in hand, I snagged 2 4hp twin OMC motors for $120. An '82 Johnson and a '97 Evinrude. The Johnson turned over with decent compression and I got it running with a little tinkering. The Evinrude was actually locked up, but I got it un stuck with very little effort, and running great in short order. It runs better than the Johnson... An OMC 4hp twin that needs TLC is a far better deal than a Hangkai. However a Hangkai 3.5, since it is only 1.5hp ( way over rated ) and about 12lbs it's perfect for an inflatable boat. I just bought an Intex Seahawk 3 and a motor mount to get to a nice lake controlled and locked out of trailer boats by a lake association, but does have a state hand launch
Interesting. Thanks for the info buddy. I'm building a small boat, rated for up to 3.5 hp. I think the main goal of the designer was to keep the motor at about 40lbs or less. I've been doing a lot of reading and looking around, and really appreciate this.
Yeah it's more for a small boat that you just take back and forth . I used it to go from the beach to my sailboat
great video the 10 hours do you have to do it one go or say 2 hours a day over 5 days?
Gonna have to do this.
Yes it broken my engine and made it run pretty good , thanks for the comment
did you have any problems with the impeller? I just fired up my new one just like that but can't get it to pump water
I bought one used with approx 10 -15 hours yesterday and took it on water today and it didnt start after 40 min of running fine. Should I waterboard it for 10 hours now to break it in? Or would be a waste of time. Any suggestions?
I just got a 3.5 hp and am breaking it in, running it in a trash can w/ water up to the right level. Mixed gas & oil as in your video. There's quite a bit of smoke or burned oil - is that a problem, and what can I do about it? The motor, water, and trash can aren't perfectly level and perpendicular - is that a problem?
How did this motor last for you? Thinking of buying one
I know this video was released three years ago, but why did you remove the plate from the driveshaft ? I was told that you remove the uppermost screw and fill through the hole until oils flows back out, it is a level hole.
Did you replace the plug? I took mine out for 1st time yesterday and it sputtered so bad I turned around after 5 or 10 minutes.
Hey thanks for the video. I just picked up a used motor same model. The on and off switch you were talking about is missing. Is that bad?
That’s your choke. And yes that is bad that is directly attached to your carb and is very crucial
@@moofusenterprises7503 thanks for the reply. the seller insisted it is fixed to not be necessary and that he used it no problem. Is this possible?
Buying a used motor always comes with certain things like this so don't feel badd about your purchase your switch can be used or not used it just might make turning the engine on and off a lot harder but that's it.
I've personally had engines with that same issue and have been able to utilize them for quite some time
Hi please. Can you tell For one galón of gasoline what. How onze. Use. Oil. And whate. Oil use. For my hangkai. 3.5. Sorry for mi English
Hi is the propeller supposed to spin when u test it?
How is this little motor doing are you still using it. Thanks
is this recommended for all small outboard motors? i just got mine but its anbull 3.5 hp from amazon
I believe these little engines are quite resilient and easy to work on so I would say it is great small outboard engine thank you for your comment
great video there's a guy on UA-cam that he said to put bee wax on on the pull start cord so it could stay well lubricated mine didn't come with that little gas tank you have
Yeah I think they just put in what they want lol each kit comes sometimes differently I've heard people have gotten extra spark plugs mine didn't come with that and I'm going to have to find a way to put a gas cap vent on . My cap just has a hole. Did yours come with a vent ?
boilerdan1 is the youtuber I watch on these little engines, hes done just about everything to them
I haven't put it in the water yet because I was trying to find a way to put a stabilizer on my kayak and then put the engine between the stabilizer in the kayak but I think I figured it out so maybe hopefully this weekend I will be putting it in the water
@@SailingProjectOdyssey I don't think it came with a vent I did buy an extra spark plug just in case I needed but it did come with gear oil I didn't have to purchase one the only thing it didn't come with was with that tank you have of gas
@@FishingwithCristina Wonder if you contacted the manufacturer, if they might send you one? Cost nothing to ask I suppose.
What oil do you mix with petrol?
What if mine didn't come with that fuel what kind of fuel do I what is is that mixture
Nice vid! Why do you have to break it in though? What's the reason behind that?
They are a very crude sort of copy of an old Yamaha 2hp, the rings are not of a modern type, and need seated into the cylinders, as well as machining isn't perfect out of the factory. Any China 2 stroke has the ability to run very well. The problem comes that they truly have to wear into use.
@@mattdudley3789 thanks Matt!
10 hours though? At 35% throttle m
@@alekswhy88 yhaa
Hello! Great video! I just bought mine about a month ago. From first start the water coming out is scorching hot. I’m not sure if that is supposed to happen? Any thoughts would help!
Itll be hot
It is cooling the engine so it will be hot, you might be running a little lean so not enough fuel in fuel air mix
@@connorssmallengines6663 i thought it was ait cooled.
Did you use this on your sailboat? If so was it strong enough to get you in/out of the marina?
Thank you !
This was only for a skiff engine to help me get to my boat at anchor and back to land I don't think this would push a boat at all bigger than 6'
@@SailingProjectOdyssey
would this push a 14' canoe with two people ? I'm thinking of this option vs. the trolling motor ? 🤔😜
2 years old but, I use this motor on my 21 ft sailboat on lake ponchatrain. Does the job to get in and out of the marina.
Mine fired up second pull and first pull after that i primed it 10 pumps after it was full also replaced the plug with a champion cj8 . I can’t hardly stop it from running.1.3 ltr can
Good info. So, basically 2.5 hrs on 1.3 ltr? That's a lot of fishing, especially if you mixed some fuel and put it into another backup can for later.
Yes changed mine too and checked the spacing
Mine is a 4 hp 4 stroke and seems like I may have a issue water circulation.ant tips or. Actions I should take.
Check your impeller make sure that it is still in good working order it should be just above the lower shaft
Ive just got one and its starting to smell like rubber butning any help
I have this motor. Took it out and it seemed so boggy. I sure didn't break it in for 10 hours though. 30m in the recycle bin, then half throttle on the lake. I see some of you replaced the spark plug. Maybe I should give it another try.
I like the throttle marks. What did you use to make those anyway?
Also, did that work out in the long run? Noticed my throttle handle slips, so the marks wont stay accurate.
More than likely a marker 😆
@@jimmymitchell8485thx for more than likely being a jerk. On a year old post. Very helpful.
10 hrs thats crazy... put on the boat run it about half to 3/4 throttle for first 30 min to 1 hr and then eun it like you stole it from there on out using a quality 2 smoker oil.
Honestly, not being hateful here at all and if someone want to take 10hrs to "break in" one of those little engines, thats fine but completely unnecessary tp run it for that long.
That little engine sounded good and I hope in the last year it has provided tons of enjoyment on the water.
Its a 200 dollar motor. Warm the thing up and send it!
hello please say if this engine and oil maintenance free ???? only by air ?? thank you FRANCIS
Yes it is
When breaking in do I need to just keep it running idle or should I be using throttle also? Plan on doing it in my garden in a bin full of water but wasn't sure if I could just leave it running idle or not :)
In the video it should show kind of like the spot where you should be having it I used white out to mark the spot
Also if you are running into any problems with it wanting to move on you you can use some Ratchett strips
Awesome video! Isn't it possible to do this directly from the boat on the first start? 10 hours straight, 1/4 or 1/3 throttle. Where i live, it's absolutely impossible for me to do it like that in a tub..
You can do it like that just remember to take it easy and just cruise slow
@@SailingProjectOdyssey Finally got the break in finished! Such a beautiful motor. How's yours been after all those years?
Break in for an engine is like stretching for a runner before a race
Stfu
Bipedal Hominid 😂😂
Where did you buy parts
Does it matter what kind of grease
Have you got update on this? Just bought one
No , it was stolen unfortunately
What is that pink oil?
What’s the weight on that?
How is this engine holding up with proper break in?
It has ran with no problems at all untill someone stole it and I think I've seen them using it with no problems hahaha but I cant tell if they just have the same engine. I should have marked it with my name or a number
@@SailingProjectOdyssey so i assume it didnt have a marked serial number then? That was my concern. Here in texas every gas outboard must have a serial number and certificate of origin and then be titled in the owners name. Kind of a money grab but then again i suppose it keeps a lot of home made stuff off the water and in the event such as yours it could potentially be tracked down.
How is this engine holding up?
Is it worth the money?
I was wondering the same thing.
Someone stole it after a week but that week sure was amazing haha
@@SailingProjectOdyssey well that's a shame, sorry to hear that. I was hoping to ask if it was still going strong but i suppose thats out of the question
@@SailingProjectOdyssey Probably a neighbor afraid you might keep running it at the house :-) These little guys are loud!
You put gear oil where?
did you use this motor for your sail boat
I use this on my 21 foot sailboat. Does well to get in and out of marina it's loud though.
Hi can someone help me? Does this engine come with a ripcord? Thanks
Yes it does and an extra one
these motors are air cooled but have wet exhausts.
yup. It's kind of simple, but it works. cooling the exhaust pulls enough heat out of the cylinder head to keep it safe. The powerhead is a modified weed eater design, probably a Honda and the lower unit is a copy of the 2hp Yamaha
Where do I put the gear oil at and the and grease in the top?
From other videos it seems one removes the prop, the cover, and seal then fill the case to just under the ridge for the seal. Good god this video is a waste of time. More info about filling the plastic measuring bottle than anything else. Speaks to the level of knowledge.
Probably a dumb blonde question. I followed all videos. Currently doing break in. Are air bubbles supposed to come out just above where the propeller goes??? It's kinda freaking me out.
mekkel harvey that is where the exhaust comes out I think so it will make bubbles
It should be fine however double check your gear oil gasket to make sure it's not leaking from their
you can break it in at the lake right?
You can but be careful not to change the rpms to much it's meant to break in at 30 rpms roughly. Thank you for your comment.
the part broken between the carburetor and the body. it's like stone dark gray
how can I find it
and what is the neme of it
Does it need oil change?
The gears do but not the engine itself because it's a 2stroke
Este motor puede usarse en California
Is it still working good ?
Worked great for a while but it got stolen so I'm not sure if it's still go and further guy you stole it off me but it worked great the whole time I had it
10 hours seems long for a small motor break in period.
I Just read the instructions the best I could and tried to follow them
Let it run for ten hours for what ?is ir tooo much
@@andresantunez3635 well the engineers who created the motor are probably wrong but who am I to judge them maybe your right who need to break in the engine anyways
All engines including cars have a break in period
Absolutely agree, thanks for your comment
I'm looking on ebay at a boat motor that says Yadao, but I come to UA-cam and it says Hangkai why is that. WTF Why can't it say what it is. Dam dude I heard it try to start right then you go to a half choke it would have started much faster. This motor is supposed to be water cooled without water you will burn up the impailer.
Yeah these engines I think aren't the best however the manufacture keeps changing the names so I'm not sure if they're just sourcing out these engines to personal companies or if they keep switching their name based on the engine quality
I watched the video to see how to add the gear oil. You skipped this.
Wish got this thang for $74 lmao
Just saw that had to search it😂
This is fake, you won't get it for 74 bucks. They "sold" the big Hangkai 6.5 Hp for 130 or so...
I just bought the 3.5 hp for 147 uk pounds.
Why do you buy chiniesium? Just buy Yamaha I own an 8hp 2 stroke, for 30 years now, never had an issue
so maybe less soy and more black coffee learn what q choke does
Try reading , it's a break in and can be hard to start For the first time ever lmao
Clearly this fella has no idea what a choke does or how it works.
Clearly you have no comprehension of what a first start looks like lmao
The choke is also labeled backwards from the factory. Took me a minute to figure it out too.
You talk about adding gear oil and grease, but never show it. It's difficult to listen to you make up what you're going to say as you go along, so I suggest forethought and scripting your presentation a little more. I appreciate you trying to do a tutorial video for everyone of us out here, but this was difficult to watch. I know it is difficult to start an engine the first time, so plan for it. Translation: when commenter says "choke issue" that means "the flow of your video was hard to watch, and it made it seem like you don't know what a choke is, or how to start an engine for the first time". Please consider this an attempt at constructive criticism. The video and audio levels weren't perfect, but they were acceptable.
I have another video showing the process of how to change the gear oil sorry for the late reply and enjoy hearing from you thank you
Why would you waste your money on that piece of chinese crap ? won't last and certainly is not 3.5hp
Settle down tough guy
I know my way around egines. Bought it and after 70 min my gaskets popped. It's a lot of money for 250$. I will not repair this piece of crap with no power at all... Do not buy this outboard!!!
