I'm still upset that all the DLC collections for _Smash 4_ cost, in total, *way* more than the game itself, even though the DLC has less total content.
Because it is bloated with the different mii fighter costumes. Just count the price of the characters and stages, and it is nowhere near as much. However, in Smash 4's case, the base game gives you such a ridiculous amount of content that even without the DLC you have a packed game, so Smash 4 should be the last game to mention when amount of content comes into question.
My dad made me some demonic purple wings one year out of silk... I never appreciated what he did for me enough. I do now. And now he's gone. Miss you dad, our memories together are AMAZING.
Tekken 2 is probably my favorite out of the first three. I remember spending many dollars playing it in arcades as a youngster. The roster is massive, it's very playable, and the characters are interesting and unique. My favorite has to be Jun. Her combos and fighting style are really smooth and fun, and she's cute in her alternate costume.
Here's the best thing i ever found out myself in this game: TRIANGLE is the key! (right punch) After getting knocked down you have to mash UP on the DPad und TRIANGLE. just hittem fast. Your character gets up rather quick instead of just laying there, waiting for a ground pound or low left kick. Even after Heihachi's power bomb, you are able to get up FAST and Block any attack he throws at you! (Tried it after finding TeKKen3's UKEMI rather useful...but it's a much different mechanic. Ukemi is timing the button just once. My trick is just mashing up and right punch, and THEN timing the blocks, once you're up!) My lil secret. I hope this helps you, my Students... Now get out there and win some fights!!!
I've played a little bit of tekken 2 in my university days. The only real tekken game I had invested a lot of time into was tekken 3 but even to this day I have still not completed a tekken game. I do intend on owning all the tekken games that were released in north america but free time is very scarce in my life so all in due time.
Tekken 2 is still my favourite, the synth drenched soundtrack just tops it over Tekken 3 for me and old school Devil Kazuya was badass!. It’s the only fighting game I am still addicted to 25 odd years later
pretty sure a whole ago he said that with his new format he would focus more on the game play and how it works instead of going over all late game ending stuff.
I'm looking forward for Tekken 3, then Tekken Tag Tournament. I wouldn't mind a multi-speed review of Street Fighter x Tekken and the MvC/CvS series. one can dream....
When my family got a PS1 a copy of Tekken 2 was, mysteriously, included in the box. My dad bought a bundle from a store which included a number of games (most of which we traded in for other stuff). What was NOT included in the bundle were three games that turned out to be promotional copies that the store was sent for display. I don't know if this was standard for them or if we just got really lucky. We thought they were demos until I started playing Tekken 2 and... it never stopped. The other two were not good games but Tekken 2 was a house favourite. None of us were ever particularly good at the game but we had a lot of fun. My dad was very smug when he discovered that Wang, the old man character, was actually shorter than all the other characters - short enough that Devil's eyebeam attack couldn't hit him. I remember really enjoying my own realisation - that Angel was shorter than Devil, and therefore the same attack from her was fully capable of hitting Wang. That first match where my dad cockily stood still while I fired my laser was soooo satisfying. Then some jerk kids deleted all the data on our memory card and I had to unlock every character again.
Some character endings felt rushed like the secret characters (Devil,Angel,Alex,Roger) but all together this game was pure golden for its time and still its a major joyride to revisit again
Favorite character? Lei... Its Jackie Freaking Chan!! Sure, Law is the Legend that is Bruce Lee, but almost every fighter has a Bruce Lee homage. I can't think of many fighters that pay homage to Jackie Chan
Wrath's Turntable Time Machine Rocksmash Attack (AKA The Mysterious Reuploader, Ace-edo Mask!) I don't see any connection between Paul and Chuck Norris. Isn't Norris' Martial art Karate? Paul's is Judo with a bit of street brawling, plus he looks nothing like Chuck. The only things they have in common is that they're American and practice a martial art. Forest is still a Bruce Lee homage like his dad, down to his looks, and his high pitched shouts being iconic to Bruce's style, plus his fighting style is Bruce's Jeet-Kun-Do, and he has an alternate costume that pays homage to Bruce Lee's Game of Death
+Wrath's Turntable Time Machine Rocksmash Attack (AKA The Mysterious Reuploader, Ace-edo Mask!) was Brandon a Martial Artist? Doesn't mater, fact remains, Forest is a Bruce homage. Plain and simple
I remember unlocking Devil and Angel finally and being like YESSSS. It was so fun to play as those characters and tear ass. When this game first came out I remember my stepdad bringing it home and I remember playing this game until I unlocked everything and everyone and got that piercing gaze at the title screen.
In Tekken 2, i can remember FONDLY that "side-stepping" was only accesible to certain characters who had a move(s) that allowed them to move into the foreground or background. Kazuya did it automatically by tapping forward (called mist step), Heihachi had it in the form of running away from the opponent (
Aw man! He forgot to mention that if you unlike everything, then you also gain access to Kazuyas sweet purple suit outfit by pressing start on his portrait.
Tekken 2 was a huge part of my childhood. The biggest thing I liked about it, was the awesome soundtrack for each character. Both the original Arcade soundtrack and the Arranged soundtrack made solely for the PS1 are awesome, though Arranged really pushed the PS1 to it sound making limitations. You just don't get that kind of stuff with today's fighters.
Paul and Michelle. Their soundtracks are amazing. Paul's special attack, that charging punch is just amazing. While Michelle's combos feel really swift to do, even when you do them wrong. I've completed Tekken 2 back then when i was really into fighting games, didn't really understand the story behind it, but it was amazing that just EVERY character had an ending.
so happy to have grown up with these classic games. Got the playstation in 1998 and tekken 2 was on the demo disc that you got with the console and ever since then tekken became my favourite traditional beat em up series
back in the days of arcades my friend and i actually used to compete and sometimes win the Tekken tag tournament at the local mall. this is the only fighting game I really love. I had forgotten all about it for the last couple years. thanks for the reminder, albeit a slightly off reminder.
King, and Leo are my fav to play in the Tekken series. I love the grapple combos King has, and I like instances of tapping into my 6th sense and countering multiple attacks with Leo. When that happens I feel like I can prediction the future.
hey jirard I just recently watched your documentary by good blood. I just want to thank you so much for caring about your subscribers and working as hard as you do. Have a great day man.
Lei Wulong. Hands down. He's my favorite. So upset they don't have him in 7. He's got this really awesome fighting style. And he can switch them up and take out opponents at a whim. He's super agile and a really complex versatile character.
I know this is an old video, but their are a few things wrong with this video: Lei doesn't have memory loss, he entered the tournament to arrest Kazuya, there was no one who lost their memory. Sidestepping was a technique only a handful of the characters, Heihachi had one that went away, Kazuya had one that went towards, and some like Jun and Michelle could do partial ones but they weren't easy. Jun is a defensive character, while yeah some of her moves come out slow, you can't solely rely on her reversals since they only reverse mainly middle and most highs. The guy who racked up 20k wins wasn't impressive in the sense of actual accomplishment, he used the same strategy over and over again over a long period to get that far, the only amazing part about it is that it took him over a week of keeping a playstation on so that he could do that. This one isn't a knock against the video.
It was fun. The story and the characters motivations and personalities were changed a lot from the games, as an adaptation it is pretty bad and that is why people don't like it. If you pretend the movie is not named Tekken it is a fun B movie
Man, it felt like I was taking a time machine back to the 90s watching this video with the footage and the way you explained things. It makes me wish I could've got in on the action when it first came out but I was only 5 when it did and I didn't get exposed to it till about 1996 when I went to a babysitter's house and saw her nephew playing the game. The first thing I saw was Law vs Jun and to this day, Jun and her stage are iconic and nostalgic for me. I also thought that Paul and Nina were brother and sister LOL I didn't get my first authentic Tekken experience till Tekken 3 and I didn't get Tekken 2 til labout 2000. But I can see why this game was so revolutionary for it's time. I mean look at all the content it had, that's something a lot of games today tend to lack. Great review man, enjoyed it! As for my favorite character, I have a lot but if I had to choose 5, they'd be Nina, Jin, Hwoarang, Jun, and King. Nina would be my primary one since I used her the most in every game. I love her design and her personality. She also has a deadly moveset but really, most of the characters in the series are awesome. :)
Great overview and take on the game. When my wife and I were visiting family in the late 90's, my 2nd cousin had Tekken 2. My wife was not a gamer then, but after seeing everyone play it, she wanted a turn. She was hooked immediately, and when we got home, she wanted a PlayStation the next day. We went out and bought the DualShock model, and a copy of Tekken and Tekken 2. The original felt pretty clunky in comparison to the sequel, so we didn't play it much, but Tekken 2 got a fair bit of play. Tekken 3 was out at that time, so when we picked it up, that got all of our attention, and we spent hours and hours unlocking everything the game had to offer. Sadly, my wife lost interest in console gaming a couple years later, but those late nights of Tekken 2 and 3 were magical, and memories that I will always cherish from early in our marriage. I look forward to when you do a video on Tekken 3, because I still think it's arguably the best game in the franchise.
That’s the only way to beat the CPU sometimes. If you use tactics that’d work on humans, they’ll punish since they react based on your control input and not a visual reaction.
Anytime I face someone or a CPU doing that BS.....it irritates me and I be in a zone to block em, find an opening, and embarrass them....specially if I'm playing Kazuya. 😡 *spinning demon kick* *uppercut* ✊🏾💥
+Bruce Doughty it's not that hard man. I have two more trophies to go before my platinum in Xenoverse, and they both require super lucky RNG, but other than that the game isn't that hard to complete.
+Synyster44 That would be the problem though lots of RNG is required also Xenoverse has been out for at least a year now and you still don't have 100%, he would only have a week.
Tekken 2 was the second game I got for PlayStation after Resident Evil. This game had a lot of replay value, unlocking characters, time attack, survival, and team battle. Best Buy even had Tekken 2 on sale for $36.99 because it was such a big seller. I lost interest in the Tekken series after Tekken Tag Tournament, but Tekken 2 always hold a special place in my heart is the only Tekken game I've ever bought.
_"First you get the Devil, then you get the power, then you get the woman."_ Kazuya in Tekken 2 is basically Tony Montana. He starts from the bottom and reaches the top, earning the Zaibatsu and using it to commit horrendous actions. And he has a badass purple suit and a sidestep into Wind God Fist (:
here's the easy way to get all of the characters 1.) Go to options and put the mode on easy, with one round, and then "choose fighter at continue" 2.) Choose the character you want to get the extra character with 3.) Lose the first match 4.) When it goes back to the fighter select screen, choose your main. 5.) Fight your way through to the Pre-boss extra character 6.) Lose and select the character you chose in step 2 7.) Beat them 8.) If you want you can lose against Kasuya and go back to the main because I don't believe you have to beat Kasuya-Devil with that character 9.) Beat Kasuya-Devil then you have the character. Using this method you could probably get all the characters in about 3 hours max.
9:13 oof... Even WATCHING Someone get Octopus Streched Hurts me inside. For those who don't know, d+3+4,4,4 is the input for the alley kicks. If it hits as a counter hit, an two extra 4's can be inputed to extend the attack. And if the player inputs 2,1,3 in between the 3rd and 4th kick, you get the Special Octopus Stretch, a throw that will lead to an instant death.
kazuya: he's a legendary badass and my first fav antihero,tekken3/ devil Jin, after kazuya left he took his place but was an amalgam of Jun and devil kazuya yet had his own original moves. asuka she was jun's replacement that shared some of move yet added a variety of her own also I love her personality and style
Loved this as a kid, the Jackie Chan and Jet Lei characters were my favorites. Remembered a arcade had this hooked up to a body controller where you had to punch and kick for real to get them to punch and kick, didn't work very well but was still fun :D
Great video as always! If you are looking for a game to review I highly recommend the Zero Escape series! The last is one of the best and it doesn't need you to play the other games to understand whats going on. But I highly recommend it because it will just build on the story!!
Lei, Bruce and Eddy. Lei as he mentions is high risk, high reward and is Jackie. Bruce has combos that mix up and speed. Eddy is just fun to use and makes opponents try to distance themselves.
3:24 - ROFL with the Taken 2 / Tekken 2 confusion! Anyway, I' haven't had a whole lot of experience with fighting games, but Tekken 2 is definitely my favorite so far! Killer Instinct came close, so did Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Virtua Fighter was my favorite for a while. But with Tekken 2's great fighters, storylines, and awesome gameplay combined with top tier fighting action and special moves, it's RADTACULAR!
Xiaoyu is my favorite. I love her move set a lot. When I got really into tekken she was the one I took my time to truely understand her moves and how to use her.
Oh my GOD! I always loved Tekken 2; one of the first games I got on Playstation! I think that was the first game I ever completed where got all extras and everything! My favorite was always Kazuya. Just so badass. Here's hoping you complete Sly 2: Band of Thieves.
Wow, what?! Semantics definitely matters! Without semantic rules and descriptions no word would have specific meaning! Great vid, and yes I know I am a couple of years late...
13:50 To this day....Kazuya's cold stare in the Stage 9 screen still creepy but legendary 💯
It still creeps me out lol
As well as the boss screen with Devil...
ahhh the good old days where fighting games had unlockable bonus characters and not payed DLC characters
I'm still upset that all the DLC collections for _Smash 4_ cost, in total, *way* more than the game itself, even though the DLC has less total content.
I agree
Trust me if they could they would have then also. Publishers like money not games.
Ahh, the good ol' days where people whined about characters being locked behind tedious tasks
My question to you: Who is your favorite character from Tekken and why?
u sould play a katamari game but for my favourite charcter mokujin just look at him
Now that's easy king is my favorite character and I love playing as king a lot
Lee. He has similar moves to Law, and he just looks badass with his alternate costume.
Jin Kazama
Ling because her whole movement is like dancing and I love how she flows around
Jirard doesn't care about block people.
#BLOCKLIVESMATTER

@@dnkakusei powerful man also, must’ve been the battle of the century to acquire those wings from kazuya then pass them down to his son

Bought it on ps1 again cuz, well, it's Tekken 2 👊
Jiun is underrated I was a master at crushing my enemies!
... You were... Off... On a few characters. You gave Lei Bruce's back story.
Yeah, that kinda threw me off...
Isn't Lei's goal in Tekken 2 to arrest Kazuya?
+Petronia Yeah, and to stop Bruce, his old partner.
AlriikRidesAgain Yeah, thought so.
I guess he messed that up!
As a person that actual pays attention to Tekken's story, I noticed that immediately as well.
+Petronia well yeah, ppl fuck up oh well
“He’s been training to take down Kazuya.” *proceeds to do the same low kick the whole fight*
Have you watched TMM play Tekken 2 King?
@@Rogue_Innocencelink?
@@doom5895 just search TMM Tekken 2 King arcade
Kazuya was my fave, loved the attitude, evil eyebrows, and the gloves
Here's the best thing i ever found out myself in this game:
TRIANGLE is the key! (right punch)
After getting knocked down you have to mash UP on the DPad und TRIANGLE. just hittem fast.
My trick is just mashing up and right punch, and THEN timing the blocks, once you're up!)
My lil secret.
I hope this helps you, my Students... Now get out there and win some fights!!!
please vote this up!!! I really don't care about likes and stuff. Just want every TeKKen Player to know!!!
I've played a little bit of tekken 2 in my university days. The only real tekken game I had invested a lot of time into was tekken 3 but even to this day I have still not completed a tekken game. I do intend on owning all the tekken games that were released in north america but free time is very scarce in my life so all in due time.
u have yet to complete A Tekken game? wow
You ever worked there? Looks like a fuckin' nightmare.
And all for a slave, i mean a minimum, wage.
Cool story
I remember spending the time unlocking all the characters in this game instead of needing to throw more money at a game to get them.
I remember playing Tekken 2 in the arcade all the time when I was younger. Those were the good times.
This video is the best example of how not to play Tekken.
Low kick… low kick… low kick 😁
Low kick spam :(
God, I love Japanese Jazz Fusion. Finding Casiopea and T Square recently was like uncovering a cache of non-game game music. So good.
Tekken 2 is still my favourite, the synth drenched soundtrack just tops it over Tekken 3 for me and old school Devil Kazuya was badass!. It’s the only fighting game I am still addicted to 25 odd years later
Same. Bought the Black Label original 2 weeks ago cuz why not?😂
No rundown of the unlockable characters' endings? :(
pretty sure a whole ago he said that with his new format he would focus more on the game play and how it works instead of going over all late game ending stuff.
+Sad Tamaki then what's the point of being a 'Completionist'?
Can't wait for future Tekken reviews
Can't wait to see Jirard's reaction to Gon in Tekken 3
right! tekken tag will be fun. I remember when i found out it had bowling. i was like wtf this is awesome

Wow you're a registered trademark now
It's funny, becuase somebody actually went back and added that copyright symbol to every episode's title.
+Riedy I think a person is working on it as I'm seeing more episodes with that copyright when I checked just now, than when I did a few minutes ago.
I was honestly wondering when that happened because that was not there last week.

WHY? WHY? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TRADEMARK RANDOM WORDS?!?!!? Completionist, face, tweet, react etc, etc, etc
In the beginning my favorite character was King, but when Bryan Fury was added, he became my go to ass kicker
Did he just register his trademark? XD
yeah
Why did he register his trademark?

Dude it's 2016.......it's Block people
If you want Jazz Fusion, play Persona. Also, this is possibly the most nostalgic video you've done. Unless I forgot about a Crash episode
So what you're saying is if you fight devil you may cry!
years later and this is still my favorite tekken game
Please do Soul Blade or Time Crisis!
Till this very day i still wonder how much gel is required for heihachi, jin, and kazuya !! There hair stay on point unlike heis bald spot
Still hoping that Jirard do BlazBlue francise
Man, it felt like I was taking a time machine back to the 90s watching this video with the footage and the way you explained things. It makes me wish I could've got in on the action when it first came out but I was only 5 when it did and I didn't get exposed to it till about 1996 when I went to a babysitter's house and saw her nephew playing the game. The first thing I saw was Law vs Jun and to this day, Jun and her stage are iconic and nostalgic for me. I also thought that Paul and Nina were brother and sister LOL
I didn't get my first authentic Tekken experience till Tekken 3 and I didn't get Tekken 2 til labout 2000.
Jun's my fav. Sucks that she's in so few games.
I think her character died off or something ?
Yes, she was killed by Ogre at Jin's 15th birthday. Then Jin remembering his mother's words went to his grandfather Heihachi who trained him.
Her official status is "unknown". She's been back in a few games since she was supposed to have died so I'm still hopeful she'll make a comeback.
Only in the Tag Tourneys, which are non-canon.
Vasili Papastrat Her status is still unknown though. And death doesn't have to mean the end of a Tekken character even if she really did die.
I can't wait for the Tekken 3 review!
I know it would be as hard as skyrim but......if you could do WARFRAME :D lol
ik ik probably never going to happen.
That will never happen... just too much stuff.
sushiyoda yea....sad.
+sushiyoda probably more stuff than Splatoon....
Joseph Green Yep, definitely.
That would cost way to much money
Ok, WHO is playing the game in the video. Freakin low kick spammer lol!!
Obviously by someone, who don't know how to play TEKKEN.
The nub who made this shit
Shoulda putta comma fo Tekken
That’s the only way to beat the CPU sometimes. If you use tactics that’d work on humans, they’ll punish since they react based on your control input and not a visual reaction.
Anytime I face someone or a CPU doing that BS.....it irritates me and I be in a zone to block em, find an opening, and embarrass them....specially if I'm playing Kazuya. 😡 *spinning demon kick* *uppercut* ✊🏾💥
I love evo! I was there last year and the year before, definitely one of the coolest experiences I've had
Jeeezus dude, stop spamming D+RK
Jen Soon Ng that was a spamable move against ai all the way until tekken 4.
I spam the heck out of D+4 too considering the AI input reads everything. But not as hard AI as SNK
"YES IT'S NOT TAKEN!"
And at that point the soda went out my nose! XD
black winter night sky is one of my favorite songs from old video games. it's pretty cool.
COMPLETE POKÉMON GOOOOOOO
A+ for yelling Brett.
Also, I'm excited for you to get through all the endings of Tekken 3.
QOTD: Hwoarang is my spirit animal.
DO A FREAKIN DRAGON BALL Z GAME!!! PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU!!! START WITH XENOVERSE THAN GO TO XENOVERSE 2
I FUCKING SECOND THAT
Really? Do you want to 100% xenoverse because I don't, and no one I know of does.
what really... I didn't know there was a second one
Comedy isn't your strength, Jirard. Please keep this more informative, an area you actually excel at.
_"First you get the Devil, then you get the power, then you get the woman."_
Kazuya in Tekken 2 is basically Tony Montana. He starts from the bottom and reaches the top, earning the Zaibatsu and using it to commit horrendous actions. And he has a badass purple suit and a sidestep into Wind God Fist (:
I liked Tekken 1, but 2 and 3 were boring. Needed more Liam Neeson.
King has always been my favorite character from Tekken. Look forward to your future Tekken videos!
here's the easy way to get all of the characters
1.) Go to options and put the mode on easy, with one round, and then "choose fighter at continue"
2.) Choose the character you want to get the extra character with
3.) Lose the first match
4.) When it goes back to the fighter select screen, choose your main.
5.) Fight your way through to the Pre-boss extra character
6.) Lose and select the character you chose in step 2
7.) Beat them
8.) If you want you can lose against Kasuya and go back to the main because I don't believe you have to beat Kasuya-Devil with that character
9.) Beat Kasuya-Devil then you have the character.
Using this method you could probably get all the characters in about 3 hours max.
My favourite character from Tekken 2 is Jun. I always play female characters and I love nature and animals in general. Perfect fit for me.
the fact it was #1 in arcades for about half a year shows where the series would go
Alex is usually the chilliest person and he sounds absolutely fucking livid in this. Like damn I didn't think he could even fake that.
The amount of low kicks I saw Jirard do in this video made me cry
kazuya: he's a legendary badass and my first fav antihero,tekken3/ devil Jin, after kazuya left he took his place but was an amalgam of Jun and devil kazuya yet had his own original moves. asuka she was jun's replacement that shared some of move yet added a variety of her own also I love her personality and style
King, Asuka and Miguel.
Asuka was all ways especially fun when I used to play a lot of Tekken, no body ever expects a good Asuka player.
Loved this as a kid, the Jackie Chan and Jet Lei characters were my favorites. Remembered a arcade had this hooked up to a body controller where you had to punch and kick for real to get them to punch and kick, didn't work very well but was still fun :D
Can't wait for you to eventually cover Tekken 3. Had that when I was but a wee lad.
Great video as always! If you are looking for a game to review I highly recommend the Zero Escape series! The last is one of the best and it doesn't need you to play the other games to understand whats going on. But I highly recommend it because it will just build on the story!!
Bret's slightly off mic yelling has been funny since it started. Don't ever stop. Also, Super Couch Fighters, what up.
I can remember being in the lunch line back in elementary school talking about hidden characters in tekken 3, like a luchador King.
Really big fan of King! Actually played Tekken 3 first and loved him in every game afterwards! Though Alex and Hwoarang are pretty epic too.
The only Tekken game for me. I've been playing it for almost 25 years now and it is still fun! (survival mode mostly)
Yoshimitsu and Lee are my two faves!
