I only remember it arcades being next to Darkstalkers and Virtua Fighter.... Never bothered until Tekken 3 and friends had a fighting game party on PS1😊
Tekken 2 was the biggest upgrade in the entire franchise. Characters, movement, story, graphics, team battle and the OST. No other Tekken upgraded everything so well. Also it included a first person mode secret mode which is crazy.
Still one of my favorite soundtracks in the series. I remember playing the hell out of the demo at the time. When my buddy accidentally discovered throws, we basically felt invincible.
Yoshimitsu's song (The Head Shaker) is the most forgotten and underrated song from the whole franchise. Is criminal that Namco has left this song to be lost in time.
Everyone talks about how good Tekken 3 was, but almost everyone I know had never seen or played Tekken 2. Honestly, this is the most underrated game in the series and even after having been my very first Tekken (and fighting) game, no other OST in the series has ever topped this one, especially the console version of the game itself.
IF anybody is singing praises for Tekken 3 and kind of ignoring Tekken 2 is simply because Tekken 3 arrived on the PSone instead of the PS2 and it was a no brainer to upgrade your tekken 2. Objectively Tekken 3 is the better game overall and has even MORE features added to it. Graphics, sound and CGI is objectively BETTER, control response is too.
I received Tekken 2 along with my PSX as a Christmas gift. The music, the cinematics, the roster, all of it was cool to me at the time. Life changing game.
Here's an interesting fact. Even though Harada also didn't make this game, he's in the credits as Katsuhiro Heihachi Harada in the end credits for the console version of Tekken 2. Also, both Kazuya & Devil's themes are bangers in the console version.
Tekken 2 busted my Tekken cherry, it made me a fan of the game as a whole and I've been playing it ever since. I remember borrowing a copy from one of my friends in middle school, probably had it for almost a year and played the hell out of it; even after getting all the secret characters. Jun/Michelle (Julia)/Nina are my mains to this day. And yes, Bruce is a damn beast in that game, that leg sweep uppercut will chop off half health!
This reminds me of a local mega arcade with a food court and two huge separate sections for kids and adults. God, we didn't know how how good we had it.
Now we get to queue online by ourselves in our living room, fighting faceless mute enemies with the finely curated 50% win rate. We really didn't know what we lost until it was gone
Take it from someone who’s 24 now, grew up with the psx, tekken 3 being my first ever game and probably still one of my favourites. I feel like I missed out on the whole arcade era, wish I couldve experienced that
I remember coming home and my brother was playing Tekken 2. I was like: "What are you playing?" and he was like: "Oh today is your birthday and I thought I should get some rounds into the new Tekken game that I wanted to give you as a gift." and I just was like: "Tekken 2 is my birthday gift?!" and so we played the entire day Tekken 2 before I had to lay down the game...... cause my mom told me to do homework. Tekken 1-3 are so special to me. Tekken 1 was the first game that we had on PS1, Tekken 2 AND Tekken 3 were my birthday gift. I love this series.
Tekken 2 is legit my first vivid memory of playing a video game, on a PS1 that my dad rented, in my grandma's kitchen on a 14" TV, in black and white because the console was NTSC-J and the television was PAL-M. Truly a defining moment in my life. Also, that comment about Tekken 3 and my mom playing it... It rings true. My mom played Tekken 2, but my whole family played Tekken 3. Its impact as a cultural phenomenon cannot be overstated.
Faxxxx i was only 6 years old wen touched it....n seing law for the first time....the rest was history ....infact tekken 2 was the reason i liked having a playstation 1
Tekken 2 was huge, I'd end up having up to 15-30 people over having the craziest of times doing Tekken 2 tourneys. It was great even though I would always try to get people to play VF2 but no one was having it, people were way to into 10-hit dial combos. 😄
This game really redefined and solidified Playstation's staying power back in 1996 along with Crash Bandicoot. I remember playing the demo at Sear's and being overwhelmed the comparison gameplay between this and Virtua Fighter 2. But what really made me in love with the Tekken series back in 1996 from VF2 was it gave EACH character personality including the FMV sequences and the music was out of this world (more depth and range than Virtua Fighter 2). Damn, our childhood was the greatest! 😁😁
By the way Its maybe not first as fighting game as a whole but first 3d fighting for endings that includes secret characters is Battle Areana Toshinden. It's not FMVs because Takara Tomy didnt have that Namco moneys but it's better than nothing
This brings back very fond memories. In my youth, I used to battle my sibling relentlessly, sometimes staying up until 2am most nights over the Christmas holiday. I had so much fun with T2 on the PS1. I love that T8 has captured some of that magic. ♥
2 is my Tekken, played the bejesus out of it, playing through arcade mode and unlocking the other 2nd half of the roster was really fun, then playing through it again to see all their endings, while simple by today's standards it was feature rich at the time. Fun fact, i ignored Tekken 3 because i thought it looked ugly :P
I was born in 96 and Tekken 2 was the first fighting game I ever played at like 3 years old and it was the first game I remember experiencing a story. Even if it's just in the cutscenes and the manual, it was the first game I played that I could recall characters, motivations and relationships. Gameplay wise, as a kid I just mashed but getting older it's clear this was a step forward to where Tekken would become and for me defined having a PS1. Soundtrack is god tier and this one is my second favorite game of all time, mainly for the fact it had such a huge impact on me.
My brothers and I first played this via the old ps1 demo discs before the game launched. The chars playable were Jun, lei, Paul and king. I have 3 brothers and I remember all 4 of us freaking out when one of my brothers attempted kings hurricarana and my other brother using Paul reversed it into a jumping power bomb. We became tekken freaks for life after that moment
0:52 😂🤣 the way Max delivered that line about Kazuya and Heihachi with the role reversal was on point. Tekken 3 is the game I saw in the arcade, Tekken 4 was the game I played. However always loved the OST to the King of Iron Fist.
Honestly, this game has one of the best final bosses I've seen in a fighting game. That feeling of being in the void fighting Kazuya with Devil in the Mirror playing in the background sticks to me to this day.
My Uncle and Aunt met and fell in love while playing T2 in an arcade at their job back in the 90's. Eventually they bought a PSX just to play T3 at home, nowadays playing Tekken is a family tradition, when we get together everyone plays at least one match, even Grandma. Tekken has this silliness and excitement that gets to people who never picked up a joystick before.
There are a LOT of comments talking about this soundtrack, OST and AST, being awesome - and I agree 100%. Morning Field, Head Shaker, Ring A Bell, of course Emotionless Passion and so many more......I love it so much I still listen to it constantly.
Playing in first person mode was really fun for me. You had to track which direction you were facing as if you were in 3rd person mode, so it was really a brain tickler.
So much about my love of fighting games is tied to Tekken 2. I remember Roger being unlockable and something about his Wind-Up Punch was godly to me. To this day I still do that wind-up animation whenever I am punching/playfighting with someone
I didn’t know Max never played Tekken 2! this game alone was my first introduction to fighting games when I was little playing it on the PS1 with my brother and Dad. Lots of good memories with this game, glad you got to try this one out!
To this day Tekken 2 has my favorite intro. I still watch it from time to time. It's just so much nostalgia when I see it. I go back in a time portal, I'm around 11/12 years old, you had to wait for it in the title screen. I always hear "man, graphics aren't going to get any better than this" in cousins voice. This game has changed so much since then. Good times man, good times.
My favourite part of the series. It has been my first Tekken game back during the '90s and that's why I have high nostalgia for it. Unlocking and seeing every character for the first time was just splendid. This one has the best intro and the best soundtrack in the whole series in my opinion. It was a massive improvement after the first one. Definitely revolutionary! I'm glad you've made a video about it.
Tekken 2 was something serious. Great game in my memory, haven't touched it in a lot of years. Tekken 2, 3, and Tag were great improvements on what the previous entry had built.
that "your mom played it" at the end is so real bc my mom and dad literally played tekken 3 with me when i was younger. my dad liked that there was a character with his name lmao.
THIS. This was my first fighting game as a kid. I didnt really know how to do much except for one yoshi move that I abused when I learned it. Super nostalgic for me
Tekken 2 was my introduction to the series. I remember seeing it in arcades back in the late 90's and watching people use King, Bruce, Jun etc. T2 still has arguably my favorite soundtrack. That Michelle theme is so good!
I remember when this came out and I really loved the story. The fact that it was a continuation of Tekken 1 and Kazuya was now the boss was so interesting at the time. PS1 was where narrative games really took off (Resident Evil, Tomb Raider) and to see a proper story applied to a fighting game was new at the time (For example Street Fighter 2 had very little narrative - it has subsequently been retconned to fit in with the other games in the series but in the 90s no one new who won SF2 or what was canon). The story ties into the first 3 games really well - especially given how old these games are and how easy it would have been to just rush out new games in the franchise without considering how each entry worked together thematically.
Tekken 2 and tekken 3 were the debut tekken games from my childhood on the original playstation. It brings such trip lane memories of the old classic characters especially the ones that were locked they were secret characters. But yeah tekken 2 i enjoyed playing it but as max said it was so difficult to pass game modes for one instance such as the arcade mode where you got to face devil kazuya and he was annoying as hell he was like the shao kahn boss battle from mk3 and yes most characters they use to block your string moves and combos at all times. one the other hand tekken 3 was the top tekken game of my entire life it was difficult but not much like 2 when i got to face ogre he was much more easier than devil kazuya and the combos were much freeflow in my opinion. so yeah in the end tekken 3 always was my absolute favorite tekken game that grew with from the first debut of the 3d era fighting games plus i used to play them both on arcades too before i fully graced my attention to purchase both these tekken games on the console version. Its incredible journey of how tekken evolved around after all these years and this core franchise is here to stay just like mortal kombat and street fighter. Thank you max for these evolution of the tekken franchise and looking forward now in the present tekken game which is the new installment and that is tekken 8.
This was the first Tekken game i ever played and i loved it. I used to always love fighting Kazuya just so i can hear his stage theme, Emotionless Passion.
Now I'm in the mood to play old Tekken games now. Tekken 2 did an awesome job of doing a complete reverse of the bosses here. The first Heihachi was a boss, and in the sequel Kazuya is the boss. What makes it even more awesome is that he transforms into a devil. Even the ending is a complete reverse as well. It's incredible that how much they treat their game's story a lot better than any other fighting games.
I discovered Tekken 3 during my brief time in prison, of all places, because it was included as a game on those mini psx's back in 2020/2021; our prison let them in because of the lack of internet connectivity. Can't wait for you to talk about that one.
Crazy how I just recently have been diving into the Tekken series and max posts this as i sit down to find my UA-cam video to watch while I eat dinner MY KING MAXIMILLIAN 🙏🏾
While Tekken 3 was the first Tekken I ever played, Tekken 2 was the PS1 Tekken that I really got attached to. I was total dogshit at it, but I was trash at every videogame that wasn't Pokémon for most of my life. Tekken 2 still has some of some of my favorite music in the franchise, especially Michelle's theme, it's so good.
When I was a kid me and my brother played my dads ps2 and played the entire tekken series from 1-5 for hours on end. Tekken 5 still takes the cake for that legendary opening sequence. Literally never skipped it even once
How have I only just seen this!? Tekken 2 back in the day! One of the games of my childhood! I still go back and play it every now and then, just for the nostalgia
After seeing and playing Tekken 2, I realized back in the day that this is more than just a Rave War game. It was huge in character roster count, soundtrack count, and after so many Arcade mode runs, so much endings😅. It was a decent fighting game to hold a place in my heart…
Tekken 2 was a perfect game for its era. It was my first Tekken game. I played for hours with my lil brother and my dad. The music, the game play, everything pushed us to love this game more and more.
During covid I picked up T7 and the feeling I had when playing King again was like no other. The muscle memory of pressing the inputs, without knowing I knew them just kicked in after 20+ years. Haven't had a gaming experience that has come close in that regard.
I remember seeing that intro in the arcade and it blew my mind. It was a fun game to have at home on PS1. At the time having those extra modes and cg endings was very cool.
Tekken 2 was the point where Tekken started to overtake VF in the 3D fighting space. Tekken 3 entirely ate VF's lunch, but 2 was already sneaking pretty large bites.
Tekken 2 was my first tekken game. I just remember my dad returning home from being a seaman with a PS1 with this game because he is a huge Jackie Chan fan. Loved the series ever since.
This is the cornerstone game that shaped my taste in fighting games and games in general really. My nearest arcade to my small cow town was some sort of primarily Namco arcade. It never had VF in there. And I saw Tekken 2 there first and it blew my mind. It’s why I got asked my parents for a PlayStation over an N64 (Saturn never had a chance for me). I was terrible at it, but seeing all the moves and throw animations and CGI endings kept me addicted.
tekken 2 was my first tekken game. still my favorite fighting game series. as a kid my friends dad fixed machines at their house on the side. like arcade machines or casino machines and stuff. he just had the tekken 2 arcade machine freshly fixed, open for us to play with endless continues lol.. a few days later it had to go back, another friend had the demo disc with tekken 2 on it. we would play that demo for HOURSS, there were only like 4 characters in the demo too. eventually that friend got tekken 2, but when tekken 3 came out everyone got that lol
This was my very first game I ever played as a kid, think I was 4 at the time and jin was my first character I played, I grew up with the series up till now. Tekken 3 is definitely a gem

THIS. This was my first fighting game as a kid. I didnt really know how to do much except for one yoshi move that I abused when I learned it. Super nostalgic for me
Just wanna say, top tier editing for the recap of Kazuya and Mishima throwing eachother down cliffs. Made me cackle
Man, Tekken 2, my first fighting game as a kid my first. I never skipped the intro
When I was a kid I found out a kick combo loop with only one leg with Lee that was infinite 😂 I'd continue endlessly till the opponent's death...
Ah, so many great memories from my childhood when i didn't know King was just a human with a leopard mask.
Tekken 2 was the first Tekken I played. So many memories...this game will forever hold a spot in my heart.
Not just the best Tekken soundtrack, but on of the best and greatest OSTs sound tracks of all time.
Tekken 2 was my first ps1 game. Played the crap out of it and it’s still one of my favourites to this day.
I only got into fighting games within the last year, and I love all these videos you do leading up to a new release
Yeah my dad's name is Heihachi too
Tekken 2 was my introduction to the series and I hold it incredibly dear to my heart.
"Some jojo character" - Editor shows Baoh character
Ahhh the good ol days of Tekken 2 when us three siblings all fought to play it, even going as far as waking up at 7 am on a saturday to hog the TV. 😂
One of my favourite games from my childhood. Unlocking all the characters at 10 years old remains one of my greatest gaming achievements 😅
Can't wait for you to talk about that one.
my very first tekken game ❤
What he missed is that the big head mode can be activated twice, for super big head mode.
2:27 can't believe Max got caught by that command grab. Ripley needs a nerf.
Kazuya boss theme in T2 is the best soundtrack ever!!!
Tekken 2 is incredible. Most people say Tekken 3 is where it started but I put so many hours into Tekken 2
Crazy how I just recently have been diving into the Tekken series and max posts this as i sit down to find my UA-cam video to watch while I eat dinner MY KING MAXIMILLIAN 🙏🏾
Loved this. Underrated, felt like the placemaker for Tekken 3 almost
Devil Kazuya was no joke as the end boss.
How have I only just seen this!? Tekken 2 back in the day! One of the games of my childhood! I still go back and play it every now and then, just for the nostalgia
My very first tekken game. Oh boy what a journey it has been.
Tekken never misses on sound tracks . I love to see how tekken evolved from the first to now 8 . cant wait to see more of the stream / videos max
Loved the series ever since.
tekken 3 will always be the GOAT of the ps1 games for me but T2 introduced me to the series so I'm very thankful for that.
Kenny’s Run with Nina in this game was legendary
Aww that moment with his daughter was so cute! I love it
This is the cornerstone game that shaped my taste in fighting games and games in general really.
Weirdly enough, other than Tekken Tag 1, Tekken 2 is the Tekken game I've easily put the most time into.
Started with tekken 2 but do have a lot of good memories. But my mom and pops used to play with me Had some of the best memories from those two games
Emotionless Passion is definitely one do the best tracks in video game history.
HOLY SHIT. Last time I tuned in Ripley was a pinto bean, now she's a full grown child! How time flies. You're blessed Max!
Tekken 2 was my first entry into the Tekken franchise
Tekken 2 was the game that made Tekken the number 1 fighting franchise in that era..
Played the Tekken 2 demo at a Sears store back in 96 and was blown away. Got PS1 and Tekken 2 for Xmas that year, great times!
while subsequent tekken games greatly improved on pretty much everything, that intro cutscene for Tekken 2 can't be topped
tekken 2 was my first tekken game. still my favorite fighting game series.
as a kid my friends dad fixed machines at their house on the side. like arcade machines or casino machines and stuff. he just had the tekken 2 arcade machine freshly fixed, open for us to play with endless continues lol.. a few days later it had to go back, another friend had the demo disc with tekken 2 on it. we would play that demo for HOURSS, there were only like 4 characters in the demo too.
eventually that friend got tekken 2, but when tekken 3 came out everyone got that lol
This was my very first game I ever played as a kid, think I was 4 at the time and jin was my first character I played, I grew up with the series up till now. Tekken 3 is definitely a gem
Landing Kazuya's ws+2 on CH felt sooo good.
