  • 3-minutes of perfect swimming with a tether. I gave Olympian Dan Smith a call to see what he was doing while the pools were closed. We talked about his thoughts on the Tokyo Olympics being postponed, what he's doing without a pool and how he got creative and made his own tether when there were none left in Australia.

Is tethering a good replacement for swimming? I'd like to hear pros and cons. Also more detail on the belt and tether set up.

Brother please remember all of us who are swimmers and can't do what u are doing now. I don't envy you but I am happy for you. Please remember us when next you train

I thought he was in an "endless pool" before realizing he was strapped down. Great idea.

Any chance you could post a link to what you bought in bunnings? Am desperate to get something that would enable me to get some swim practice in!

Yes, but you don't get to see the technique from underneath.

rogger55 was thinking the same thing. I’m by no means a great swimmer but I noticed in tethered swimming your technique gets a little “OFF TRACK” because you need a bit of sideways force to keep you straight? You don’t get have that feed back of cutting through the water like a your on a rail. I think that could be unconsciously causing that bent arm because your body feels like you need to use a slight push away type movement to keep straight? Ooooorrrr, he could of always swam like this😂

@@123nlusky You know what, you're actually right, i've just recorded myself and found that i also tend to do this exact same thing and yes i believe is due to the reason you mention, sideways force to keep you "on track"

I want to buy an outdoor above the ground pool, the smallest one to be able to swim on the tether. Can you recomment the size and depth of a pool that will work? Many thanks.
