@MrTFish: The headlights are interchangeable between mk4 Golf's and Jetta's. So after you install the new headlights, just connect the wiring harness as normal.
So funny. I bought one like this not knowing about this. But it caught my eye and I bought it thinking it was the slickest GTI if ever seen, but now I know why.
@Rapha4055 yeah the golf grill is 2 bars and the jetta grill is 4 bars. But they are interchangeable, meaning all the clips and holes are the same. Just watch the vid ;)
I'm about to replace my Jetta's fender with a new one, I've heard theres a rubber coating that covers some of the fender's bolts inside the wheel well. Any tips on removing this rubber coating?
If you're lucky; you can find one fairly cheap at a local junkyard. If you're not lucky, you might have to pay up to a few hundred dollars to order one online and pay massively on shipping. If you're super lucky, you might know someone with a Jetta of the same color who wants (or might be easily convinced) to do a Golf front end swap.
I would love to see a golf with this front end.... I think is posible since the jetta 2013 clasico has the same body as a 2000 ish jetta... I think this version of the jetta (jetta clasico) is only sold in Mexico, does it sells in the US too ?

one more question sir, I'm in the process of my JTI swap: at the part where I'm removing the fenders and hood. Do I have to remove my hood first? If so, how easy was it to disconnect the wiper fluid hose? So far the bumper/ lights are off, most of the passenger fender liner screws are off with the exception of one, and advice at this point? Thanks for the awesome video
Wow. Great video. I must say the title made it hard for me to find this video. Also they are called bora in the UK not jetta! Was the slam and headlight panel exactly the same?
a20rsx Thanks for the feedback, I'll see about updating the title to make it more easily searchable. And I suppose the vocab gives away the fact that I'm from the US :) Slam panel and headlight panel are exactly the same between the golf and jetta (bora). Simply remove all the front end parts mentioned in the video, from both vehicles, swap them over, and enjoy :)
@@The_fonzy these h7 and h4 connectors are inside headlight unit. Outside it, you have common connector interchargeable for all Halogen lights between Golf/Jetta/Bora mk4
Hi Ricky, when you install the new fenders and hood, you may find that you have a large gap on one side of the hood and no gap on the other side of the hood. You may need to loosen the nuts and bolts for the hood, and ever so slightly re-position the hood so that it is perfectly aligned with the fenders, then re-tighten the nuts and bolts. That's all :) Thanks for watching! If you have any further questions just let me know. -Kyle
What Jetta do you take it off? The wagon our just a regular Jetta? I know a wagon is basically a golf in the first plate, built off the golf body with the Jetta front end. So is it a Jetta wagon you take the parts from or just a plain basic Jetta with a trunk?
Hello! In my front end swap, the Jetta was a regular Jetta, not a wagon. However, the front end from a MK4 Jetta wagon will be the same as on MK4 regular Jetta. Either one will work for a swap.
Hey that means that after market front bumpers from jetta should fit on a golf just fine? I'm gonna do this swap on my golf wagon that you did. But I read that the golf is 5cm wider than the jetta.Hope this don't effect the conversion...
Hey there Robert Svensk If it's 5cm wider... I can't tell the difference on mine. All the mounting holes match up, and the fenders are flush with the doors. And yes as long as you swap everything over (hood, grille, bumper, fenders, etc.) then you can absolutely slap an aftermarket front bumper on there. Here's a pic of a Jolf with a Votex bumper: koti.mbnet.fi/~jarskih/kuvia/Jolf/jolf18.jpg
+Dalton Huehn Well, I have two answers for you. 1) Anything will work if you have enough money :) and 2) It will NOT swap over in 'plug and play' fashion. If you want to put a MK4 front end, on a MK3, you will need to do some serious custom work. This will require either a lot of your time to do it yourself, or a lot of your money to have a shop do it - unless you have a good friend willing to do it for you :) If you want to put ONLY the MK4 bumper on the MK3, you may be able to get it done without much of a headache - just a lot of custom body work to make the bumper fit. But if you want to swap the entire front end (hood, fenders, lights, etc.), then you're looking at a serious undertaking. If you want to pay me I'll do it for you, my rate is $100/hr plus parts, and a minimum of 100 hours :)
Hi there, just to clarify, if you are talking about performing a front end swap between a MK3 Jetta and a MK3 Golf, the front ends should match up just fine (based on what I've read online). For the MK3 swap the headlights, hood, and grille will be required. If you are suggesting a MK3 front end swapped with a MK4 front end, this will not bolt up without major modification. Here is a thread from vwvortex that I found for you which should be helpful for your MK3 front end swap: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3629193-mk3-jetta-front-end-conversion In the thread a user states: "everything will bolt right up, but wiring/harnesses for the headlights will most likely be different and will require splicing in different connectors or replacing the whole harness" Best wishes to you!

No I do not, I swapped with a guy who had a Jetta. He took my golf front end and I took his Jetta front end. We met through vwvortex. Try searching there in your local/regional forums. You might be able to find someone to swap with. Good luck!
I always say with enough time, money, and skill, anything is possible! With that being said, I've never seen anyone do what you're suggesting. So I'm afraid I won't be much help on providing you with the 'how'. I'd start with getting the hood, and seeing how it lines up with the mk4. Then be prepared to do some cutting and custom fab work to get the job done. Best wishes on the project!
I have all the parts and I'm just waiting for summer to do this, but about how long in labor is the job? Assuming everything goes as planned. And don't you need the rad support as well?
HsMlFattySpins Hey there, I think the labor was a couple hours, maybe 3 at the most? It wasn't bad. And no you don't have to change the rad support. All you need is bumper, headlights, grille, hood, and fenders. Everything swaps right over, bolt patterns are the same.
I'm not 100% certain, but the 2001 cabrio glx mk3 front end appears to be identical to the mk4 golf front end. Assuming that it is, yes a mk4 jetta front end will fit.
Hey there, I made a video about changing wheels but I never made videos on shaving rub strips or molding bumpers. Are you interested in these? If so, I will take note during my new project "DIY Dubs", where I'll be making more videos like this one and taking requests as well.
Can the part holding the bumper be replaced? The problem I am having is that my bumper is fine but the thing holding it is broken, and now the bumper is hanging....yes I don't know anything about cars...
Hey min lover I think you're talking about the impact bar. Here's a link to a 2000 VW Golf Impact Bar, #12 in the diagram, is this it? parts.vw.com/parts/2000/Volkswagen/Golf/index.cfm?action=partDetail§ion=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=FRONT%20BUMPER&subgroup=BUMPER%20%26%20COMPONENTS&component=Impact%20bar&partnumber=1J0805551C&vehicleid=90452&siteid=9
I don't know if its #12 or #14. The thing that happened was that while i was parking (in front of a curb) I sort of eased on top of the curb and then when i got back and started backing out, the bumper sort of fell and it seems like something under broke.
min lover Ouch :( Sounds painful. I would start by taking the bumper off and inspecting to find out what/if anything broke. Generally there is a part number imprinted somewhere on each part. Locate the part number and you can order yourself a replacement.
+fockyoumang Your front end will dictate the headlights. If you're using a Golf front end (bumper, grille, hood, fenders) then you'll need to install Golf headlights. Vice versa if you're using a Jetta front end (bumper, grille, hood, fenders) then you'll need to install Jetta headlights. Does this help? If not, let me know I'll try to assist.
+Kyle Steinle I mean the fog light headlights or no fog lights. How many tabs did your bumper have? I have everything I need besides the headlights because I don't know if they fit for the bumper I got
+Kyle Steinle you have the fog lights in your headlights. How did the top of the bumper look inside under the headlights? How many tabs were there? For the Jetta conversion. you can see the bumper I have on my channel video, "plasti-dip won't come off"
***** Headlights with fog lights vs. no fog lights is up to you. Whether they have fog lights or not they will still bolt on the same way. The only difference between fog light vs. no fog light could be the wiring harness. You'll have to talk to the headlight manufacturer or supplier about the harness. They may come with a plug and play harness, or you may have to wire them yourself. The manufacturer can answer that. The only thing you need to worry about is getting Jetta headlights for your Jetta bumper. As for how the top of the bumper looks under the headlight, if you watch my video from 0:45 - 0:55 you can get a glimpse of what my golf bumper looked like under the headlights. There are no tabs on the bumper under the headlight, not that I can recall. There are, however, four tabs on each headlight that are used to secure the headlight to the core support. Watch my video 0:53 - 1:10 to see the headlight removal. For each headlight, you'll have two tabs on top and two tabs below. Each tab has a screw/bolt. I just watched some of your video "plasti-dip won't come off". Sorry to see you're having such a bad experience there, that sucks. You could try using acetone, like Jonathan Recod mentioned in the comments. Also check this video out, How To Remove Bad Plasti Dip: ua-cam.com/video/SIfr1EK45uM/v-deo.html Hope this helps! Lmk -Kyle
+Kyle Steinle I was told there was a difference depending in the bumper. My switch already has the fog lights inside the gti headlights so I think it should work with the fog lights. I see in makes no difference. When I was ordering the guy and even the junk yard said they attached differently. Thanks
Hi +SlickSpacey , I have not done a mk3 golf/jetta front end swap personally. However, I did a little research and it looks like all you need is to swap the hood, lights, and grille. Additionally you may need to do some rewiring of the headlights, depending on if they are going from single to duel bulb. Here's a thread I found on the subject: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?877059-Mk3-Jetta-Golf-front-end-swap&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+swap
+SlickSpacey - another thread confirming the above info: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5433955-Mk3-Jetta-to-Golf-front-end-conversion-tread-Need-help!!&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+conversion
+ACTIVEGAMER298 Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm a little confused by your question. You asked if this is the same process with a Passat, but then you say you'd like to put a Golf front end on your Jetta. If you plan to put a MK4 Golf front end on your MK4 Jetta, you'll have no issues - simply follow the procedure in the video. If you are asking if the MK4 Golf front end will fit on your Passat, I must say I have not performed this swap on a Passat, so I do not have a definitive answer. However, my instincts tell me that a MK4 Golf front end will not fit on a Passat due to the difference in their chassis sizes. A Passat is a bit larger than the Golf, so I don't think it will fit. If you can offer clarification about your question, perhaps I can offer more information. Thanks.
Yes I agree a bad headlight switch could be the cause. I would also suggest checking for a blown fuse, and verify that the bulbs are not damaged. My last suggestion is to check for damage to the wiring harness connections on vehicle as well as on the headlights. Hopefully one of these suggestions will help determine the cause and solution for your problem.
No frame changes, as long as both cars are MK4's. You are correct, all you need are left and right fenders, hood, bumper, headlights, and the grill.

Ok great thank you for the feedback. I'll try to include a video for shaving rub strips, on DIYdubs. Thanks!
does the radiator support need changed?
Hey there, the radiator support was not changed during this front end swap. Not needed.
Its this easy? Wow
can you go from mk4 jetta front end to mk1 golf? is that possible? IS IT?!
+Chase Robins Haha with enough money, anything is possible :)
what about mk4 to mk5, can it be done?
With enough money you can do just about anything. It's going to be a super custom job though, not an easy plug and play.
Can the part holding the bumper be replaced? The problem I am having is that my bumper is fine but the thing holding it is broken, and now the bumper is hanging....yes I don't know anything about cars...
Hey min lover I think you're talking about the impact bar. Here's a link to a 2000 VW Golf Impact Bar, #12 in the diagram, is this it? parts.vw.com/parts/2000/Volkswagen/Golf/index.cfm?action=partDetail§ion=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=FRONT%20BUMPER&subgroup=BUMPER%20%26%20COMPONENTS&component=Impact%20bar&partnumber=1J0805551C&vehicleid=90452&siteid=9
min lover That link isn't working... let's try this one: parts.vw.com/parts/2000/Volkswagen/Golf/GL?siteid=9&vehicleid=90452&diagram=9276010
Locate the part number and you can order yourself a replacement.
ok thanx!!!
how do you know which headlights to get depending on the bumper?
Also check this video out, How To Remove Bad Plasti Dip: ua-cam.com/video/SIfr1EK45uM/v-deo.html
Hope this helps! Lmk

+Kyle Steinle I was told there was a difference depending in the bumper. My switch already has the fog lights inside the gti headlights so I think it should work with the fog lights. I see in makes no difference. When I was ordering the guy and even the junk yard said they attached differently. Thanks
uhhh huh? can you repeat your question?
would this be the same process for the mk3 do you know?
Hi +SlickSpacey , I have not done a mk3 golf/jetta front end swap personally. However, I did a little research and it looks like all you need is to swap the hood, lights, and grille. Additionally you may need to do some rewiring of the headlights, depending on if they are going from single to duel bulb. Here's a thread I found on the subject: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?877059-Mk3-Jetta-Golf-front-end-swap&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+swap
+SlickSpacey - another thread confirming the above info: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5433955-Mk3-Jetta-to-Golf-front-end-conversion-tread-Need-help!!&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+conversion
thankyou kyle
+SlickSpacey You're welcome, good luck!
its this the same process with a Passat, I want to put a golf front on my jetta
Thanks.
Oops i put Jetta instead of Passat, I looked into it and the Passat is too wide , I may do something like a b5 a4 front end
ACTIVEGAMER298 Ok no worries, thanks for clarifying. Wow that would be cool! Best of luck!
Did this conversion, my headlights don't work. :/
I'm sorry to hear that. Are you using stock headlights or aftermarket?
Kyle Steinle Tried stock and aftermarket. I'm getting Bora lightswitch, that might do the trick.
Kyle Steinle I checked all fuses, bought new bulbs (one blew up immediately). I'm now waiting for the lightswitch, let's hope that does the trick.
DG Yes hopefully it's just a faulty switch - not providing proper voltage to the headlight assembly. I'm curious to know what happens.
its a bora front end
noooope.
