how to swap mk4 golf/jetta front ends
Good video
👍
Nice. I just pickup up a GTI. And this swap is on the list for sure ... Looks way better !
this has to be one of the best videos on youtube lol. its so to the point and its literally for mk4 owners. you understand ever step word for word.
Haha thank you!
Hey man this video and your narration was ahead of its time and even great quality for todays day and age. Great job 👍🏻
Thanks man, much appreciated 🙏🏼
Really informative and easy to follow. Great video!
Just got a jetta wagon and I have a buddy with the same color golf. Long golf here I come
Damn, this is me who he swapped the front end with, that's me in pictures doing the work. I regretted the swap afterwards and went back to jetta.
Wowww! All these years later and you found the video!!! Haha good to hear from you. Sorry to hear you regretted the swap tho :(
@@diydubs I wanted that mk5 look bumper, that's why I did it. I went back to jetta front after. Did a ton of body work and car sat for years.. sold it to someone locally as a shell and he got t-boned and car was scrapped. Some parts are still alive, side skirts I still have. Now I have a mk4 r32 and mk4 jetta wagon tdi. So both front ends. How you been man? Car is still around?
Ohh thanks a lot, Man!!
Good to know about the two little screws on the inside before I tired pulling off the cap. Just broke a big ass hole in one of my mirrors. Thanks!!
It was beginning of 2021, when UA-cam recommended this to me
hahaha seriously?! that's amazing. Thanks UA-cam.
** these mirrors are pretty nice for do7.pl/DMirror the price they shipped really fast and were packaged nicely and not damaged! I will give them 9 out of 10 due to the fact they use a type of glass or mirror that is slightly wavy which is a little annoying but only at certain angles, they function great and fit well, I heard if you take your oem foam seal off the back of your old oem mirror that your pulling off if it's still there they might snug up better then the foam seal that comes on these but that's an opinion, I knew a guy that bought them before I did notioned that ! These are really great for the price considering at the you know who dealership they want half of a grand or more for one mirror. Considering we're buying there trucks you'd think they give you a little break on certain body parts when you have a little mistake in my case the mirror was broken before I bought the truck ! These fixed it !!!**
I would do this to the 2 door golf to get the 2 door jetta lol
What is the reason you not buffer it?
Kyle! If you can reply, you do not need to change out the core support correct?
Ben, you are correct! You do not need to change out the core support.
Bro... How come your Golf has a Jetta front end. Great video, helpful and informative. I will experiment myself now thanks to you.
I thought it looked cool! Here's how we did it: ua-cam.com/video/Ut_cG_dC_FE/v-deo.html
Can a jetta clip be done on a 2000 cabrio
Quick and consise. Gives you all info. Love this video. Great job.
How do I remove glass lenses tried oven and hairdryer didn't work
Looks like a nice fairly simple conversion, I found your video in search of a similar conversion. I have an Mk4 city golf (ugly big bulky headlights). Id like to do the same swap you did or even to what you had originally. do you know if this is a possible conversion? seeing yours come apart i really think it would work? any sources or info would be greatly appreciated!! Dubb safe.
Well done !!! Looks sick
Could somebody help me out ? I would love to know if a Jetta city 2009 hood is adaptable to a regular Jetta mk4 body ???
I always say with enough time, money, and skill, anything is possible! With that being said, I've never seen anyone do what you're suggesting. So I'm afraid I won't be much help on providing you with the 'how'. I'd start with getting the hood, and seeing how it lines up with the mk4. Then be prepared to do some cutting and custom fab work to get the job done. Best wishes on the project!
I have a 2009 city golf and I am putting on a 99.5-05 jetta front end tomorrow. It is all the same shit.
What year are these cars? Both mk4 VWs? I've got a golf, hate the front end on it. I'm doing this swap.
I just bought my first car. It is a mk4 golf and I'm very excited. Your videos helped me and I plan on swapping the front end with a Jetta.
Congratulations on your first car!! That's so exciting :D I'm glad the videos have helped and you're gonna love the front end swap. Keep a look out for my new website, DIYDUBS.com, where I'll be making more videos just like these. If there is anything in particular you'd like to see in the future, just let me know right here!
great tutorial. i like how u explain and get to the point.
Thank you very much! I will have a site coming out soon called DIYDUBS.com, with more tutorial videos like this. If you have any other videos you'd like to see just let me know! Thanks again.
So funny. I bought one like this not knowing about this. But it caught my eye and I bought it thinking it was the slickest GTI if ever seen, but now I know why.
Haha that's funny :)
Do you know if only a 97 Jetta will work for a 97 golf or are there more years of Jettas you can use for the swap?
Hi there, just to clarify, if you are talking about performing a front end swap between a MK3 Jetta and a MK3 Golf, the front ends should match up just fine (based on what I've read online). For the MK3 swap the headlights, hood, and grille will be required. If you are suggesting a MK3 front end swapped with a MK4 front end, this will not bolt up without major modification. Here is a thread from vwvortex that I found for you which should be helpful for your MK3 front end swap: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3629193-mk3-jetta-front-end-conversion In the thread a user states: "everything will bolt right up, but wiring/harnesses for the headlights will most likely be different and will require splicing in different connectors or replacing the whole harness" Best wishes to you!
does the radiator support need changed?
Hey there, the radiator support was not changed during this front end swap. Not needed.
I really like your car
Thank you!
did u ever make the other videos ?
Hey there, I made a video about changing wheels but I never made videos on shaving rub strips or molding bumpers. Are you interested in these? If so, I will take note during my new project "DIY Dubs", where I'll be making more videos like this one and taking requests as well.
yea man I would like to watch and see how you shaved them there are no other videos out there that I can find thanks
Ok great thank you for the feedback. I'll try to include a video for shaving rub strips, on DIYdubs. Thanks!
when it's black, they make it same color as the body. now when it's the same color they want it black k lol.
haha well said!
How true! I am doing the exact opposite. I am painting my black mirrors silver.
great idea to put a vw jetta front in a golf, nice 💯👌🏼
Thanks!
hey man great video what exactly did you use for the sealant should it be specific
Hey thanks, you actually may be able to reuse the original sealant if there is enough left over. If not, you can try Morimoto RetroRubber Butyl Glue. This is an OEM-style sealant designed specifically for use in headlights: www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/build-materials/morimoto-retrorubber-butyl-glue.html Alternatively, you can try OCI BUTYL GLUE, for those who don't like the harder, more OEM-like consistency of the RetroRubber and prefer the softer OCI: www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/build-materials/oci-butyl-glue.html And here's a video on how to apply it: ua-cam.com/video/duFXYRt_nD0/v-deo.html Hope this helps!
Did this conversion, my headlights don't work. :/
I'm sorry to hear that. Are you using stock headlights or aftermarket?
Kyle Steinle Tried stock and aftermarket. I'm getting Bora lightswitch, that might do the trick.
Yes I agree a bad headlight switch could be the cause. I would also suggest checking for a blown fuse, and verify that the bulbs are not damaged. My last suggestion is to check for damage to the wiring harness connections on vehicle as well as on the headlights. Hopefully one of these suggestions will help determine the cause and solution for your problem.
Kyle Steinle I checked all fuses, bought new bulbs (one blew up immediately). I'm now waiting for the lightswitch, let's hope that does the trick.
DG Yes hopefully it's just a faulty switch - not providing proper voltage to the headlight assembly. I'm curious to know what happens.
I want a golf front on a jetta wagon
Cool man, go for it! :)
Why don't you just buy a golf estate... it is litteraly the same thing you want...
That's why in was here for actually to see how.to do that I've always wanted a golf wagon
I'm doing my wagon with golf front end tomorrow
@@mirzadhadzic6728 because its ugly
Thanks for your helpful video
You're welcome!
Sweet video keep em coming
Thank you Dan! I'm actually working on creating a website with more videos just like this. It will be up soon, and I'll include the link in the info section of this video. Have a great day!
quedo bien vergas

When you say adjust the nuts and bolts on the fender and hood what exactly you mean?
Hi Ricky, when you install the new fenders and hood, you may find that you have a large gap on one side of the hood and no gap on the other side of the hood. You may need to loosen the nuts and bolts for the hood, and ever so slightly re-position the hood so that it is perfectly aligned with the fenders, then re-tighten the nuts and bolts. That's all :) Thanks for watching! If you have any further questions just let me know. -Kyle
nice work. great explanation. I wondered what valance was that on jetta front end?
Thanks, much appreciated. That is the 4motion front valance.
Do you happen to have all the golf parts still?
No I do not, I swapped with a guy who had a Jetta. He took my golf front end and I took his Jetta front end. We met through vwvortex. Try searching there in your local/regional forums. You might be able to find someone to swap with. Good luck!
Do you think I could swap a Canadian Jetta city front end to a golf?
Yes I think you could. Both cars in Canada?
its this the same process with a Passat, I want to put a golf front on my jetta
+ACTIVEGAMER298 Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm a little confused by your question. You asked if this is the same process with a Passat, but then you say you'd like to put a Golf front end on your Jetta. If you plan to put a MK4 Golf front end on your MK4 Jetta, you'll have no issues - simply follow the procedure in the video. If you are asking if the MK4 Golf front end will fit on your Passat, I must say I have not performed this swap on a Passat, so I do not have a definitive answer. However, my instincts tell me that a MK4 Golf front end will not fit on a Passat due to the difference in their chassis sizes. A Passat is a bit larger than the Golf, so I don't think it will fit. If you can offer clarification about your question, perhaps I can offer more information. Thanks.
Oops i put Jetta instead of Passat, I looked into it and the Passat is too wide , I may do something like a b5 a4 front end
ACTIVEGAMER298 Ok no worries, thanks for clarifying. Wow that would be cool! Best of luck!
did ur lights fog up after u put them back on? or was it just a bad photo
The photo at 4:04? If so, that's simply a bad/scratched/worn out lens cover. It needs restoration. There was no fogging caused by the Joey mod.
Kyle Steinle ah thats cool, was worried about fogging the lights up. Thanks for the reply :)
***** You're welcome, thanks for watching :D And no worries, just make sure you have a good seal when you put the lens cover back on. Best of luck!
Did U even scuff the chrome you were painting? How well did it stick?
+Onry1 Nope I did not scuff the chrome before painting. It seemed to stick just fine, it's still there 6 years later.
glad it worked...
***** Thanks! Best of luck!
+Kyle Steinle what paint did you used?
iAmLVQ G Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel, see the very beginning of the video at 0:11.
would this be the same process for the mk3 do you know?
Hi +SlickSpacey , I have not done a mk3 golf/jetta front end swap personally. However, I did a little research and it looks like all you need is to swap the hood, lights, and grille. Additionally you may need to do some rewiring of the headlights, depending on if they are going from single to duel bulb. Here's a thread I found on the subject: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?877059-Mk3-Jetta-Golf-front-end-swap&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+swap
+SlickSpacey - another thread confirming the above info: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5433955-Mk3-Jetta-to-Golf-front-end-conversion-tread-Need-help!!&highlight=mk3+golf+jetta+front+end+conversion
thankyou kyle
+SlickSpacey You're welcome, good luck!
Goals, nice vid!
+Nigel Mac Thanks!
so if I have a mk3 golf and I wanna put a mk4 jetta bumper on, would that work?
+Dalton Huehn Well, I have two answers for you. 1) Anything will work if you have enough money :) and 2) It will NOT swap over in 'plug and play' fashion. If you want to put a MK4 front end, on a MK3, you will need to do some serious custom work. This will require either a lot of your time to do it yourself, or a lot of your money to have a shop do it - unless you have a good friend willing to do it for you :) If you want to put ONLY the MK4 bumper on the MK3, you may be able to get it done without much of a headache - just a lot of custom body work to make the bumper fit. But if you want to swap the entire front end (hood, fenders, lights, etc.), then you're looking at a serious undertaking. If you want to pay me I'll do it for you, my rate is $100/hr plus parts, and a minimum of 100 hours :)
has anyone done these in white?
+Nay Cee Not too sure, probably maybe someone somewhere? Try it out and let us know how it looks! :)
+Nay Cee Found this, looks pretty cool! s574.photobucket.com/user/Paul_TDi/media/Car/MK4/HLtest1.jpg.html
Looking forward on doing this! Just one question! Can I use plastidip instead of spraypaint ? Annually I do revision on my car and I'm afraid that black headlights would make me fail the revision. Revision guys would say that it's not accepted. Spain has a lot of laws on car customization. Removing plastidip is much easier than buying and putting stock headlights back! Thanks! Hopefully I'll get an answer soon!
+spraypaintandmarkers Hi there! I don't foresee any issues with using plastidip instead of spraypaint. That should work just fine!
